Nashville’s New Restaurant Openings - Nashville - The Infatuation

"One of Miami’s most popular donut shops has chosen Nashville for its first Tennessee location, and its 12 South spot is much more than donuts—it’s a full-on all-day cafe. So while you can pick up some mixed berry cheesecake donuts to go, you can also stay and get a latte, avocado toast, or a souffléd egg and cheese croissant." - jackie gutierrez jones 2

I went to check out The Salty (Donut) in 12 south today as I'm so excited we had a location open in Nashville this summer! I used to live in Miami and would visit their location in Wynwood at least once a month, so I am super excited to have these amazing donuts nearby now! The store front is super cute and in a great area of 12 South. I loved that the staff was so sweet and that there was both indoor and outdoor seating available. I tried to vanilla iced latte and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't overly sweet! I also got 2 donuts, the chocolate cake (to die for!) and the brown butter & salt cake (also good, but not as good as the chocolate). I love this style of donut more than those that are branded as "multi-layers" because these donuts had a perfect kind of consistency and weight to them. I also ordered the ham & cheese croissant, which was my favorite food item! The ham and cheese were so delicious in a perfectly flakey croissant crust. I can't wait to go back and get another one!

I was fortunate to be apart of their soft opening and wow! First of all - the coffee is unreal. Tastes very close to Blue Bottle (if you're familiar)! The donuts were delicious, breakfast sandwich was , and the avocado toast was phenomenal. Perfect grab and go spot made of high quality fresh ingredients. Fun atmosphere and very friendly staff. Thank you so much!! We will definitely be back.

Oh my goodness, where do I start! Everyone I met today is so sweet! Jackson running the counter assisted me in picking out a donut that would hit the spot - even though I came in the afternoon the strawberry and pistachio donut tasted fresh! The texture was phenomenal, unlike any donut I’ve ever had. I was even able to meet the man behind making the donuts today, Jerry! You can tell everyone here gives it their all, and you can taste it! I’m excited to come back and try out some of their savory food.

Google
This is not another run-of-the-mill coffee/breakfast spot. The Salty Donut lives up to the hype!! I attended their soft opening and tried most of the menu items and loved every single one of them. My favorite donut was the Mixed Berry Cheesecake and my favorite breakfast item is a tie between the Croissant Breakfast Sandwich and the Avocado Toast. SO GOOD. 12 South has been growing like crazy lately, and this new addition is well worth the visit. Plus, they have great business hours open early AM - PM. Eden was at the cashier when my group ordered and he was SO helpful and kind, which made for a wonderful first impression. Thanks for having us, I can't wait to return!

Google
Very cute spot! Counter style with indoor and outdoor seating (dog friendly!). Almost no like at 730am on a Friday. We had the key lime donut, berry cheesecake donut, bacon egg cheese croissant, cinnamon milk cereal latte, and banana cream cold brew - all delicious! The weakest was probably the croissant but that’s expected. Service was incredible, super nice staff. We’ll be back!

If you’re in Nashville and have a sweet tooth, The Salty is a must-visit. Located in a great, walkable spot, this donut shop is as stylish as it is delicious. They’ve got an amazing selection of unique flavors—everything from classic to creative, and each one is beautifully made and full of flavor. You can tell they put real thought into their ingredients and presentation. The vibe inside is fun and modern, and it’s the kind of place you’ll want to hang around for a while—not just grab and go. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, The Salty is a top-tier donut experience. Highly recommend!

Google
The Salty Donut in 12 South is a nice spot if you’re already in the area and craving donuts and coffee. We tried the Banana Cream Cold Foam Latte and the Brown Butter & Salt Donut (vanilla bean cake donut with a brown butter glaze and Maldon sea salt). Both were delicious—the latte was smooth with just the right sweetness, and the donut had a perfect balance of rich flavor and a hint of salt. The shop itself is small but cozy, with a few outdoor tables for seating. Service was friendly and quick, which made the stop even better. Like most places in 12 South, parking can be a challenge (and usually paid), so plan ahead. Overall, a solid choice for a sweet treat and coffee break while exploring the neighborhood.

Google
I got the Mixed Berry Cheesecake Donut. I was really expecting it to be way too sweet. I was very pleasantly surprised! It was so good and I would definitely get it again. The staff person working there when I went was incredibly kind and helpful. Shout out to him! I told him I don’t know anything about coffee, but wanted to get something for my partner and he made a custom drink which I was later told was very yummy. I got a matcha as well. Probably not my favorite matcha in town, but a pretty good one! The shop itself is so cute. While I would have loved for it to have the convenience of having its own parking lot, it was pretty easy to park on the street nearby.

Yelp
The Salty is the sweetest spot in 12th South! Vibes: This is a very cozy, compact cafe that can get very busy on weekends. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Although there are fewer indoor seating options, it's a nice place to grab coffee and a bite before moving on. The neighborhood is one of the bustling places, especially on weekends. Nevertheless, parking isn't an issue here because they offer plenty of parking garages at reasonable rates. Service: This cafe has one of the sweetest staff. I remember visiting here for the first time, and the cashier-turned-barista was a very chatty man, exceptionally passionate about what he does. The service is also very quick, regardless of the crowd. Bite: They offer traditional yeast-raised donuts in many unique flavors with a few seasonal options, along with Cragel, bagels, croissants, toasts, and a wide variety of beverages. I love that they bake in-house in small batches, which is why they often run out of their baked goods by the end of the day. I had their Berry Cheesecake Donut on my first visit and I am a huge fan of them. They are large, perfectly sweet, and fresh, exactly what you seek in a good donut. I also tried their Banana Latte, which is exceptionally good, even though I am not typically a banana + coffee fan. However, on my second visit, I decided to order their "Salted Caramel Latte" again, while my partner opted for a "Cold Brew Lemonade." Their Salted Caramel Latte is so perfect. It's creamy, caramel-y, with a hint of salt. I am a fan! The Cold Brew Lemonade was the drink that caught me off guard. In all honesty, I didn't have too many expectations, but on a scorchingly hot summer day, this drink is all you need. The cold brew hits a good caffeine level, and with the citrussy lemonade (which is generously sweet), they somehow cancel each other's bitter notes, giving you a refreshing drink you can't stop sipping. I just love this place! All in all, I have never left this cafe ever feeling salty!!

Yelp
Donut worried, be happy! And who can't be happy after trying one of Salty's cragels This is cute breakfast/coffee/sandwich shop located in the 12 South neighborhood. Parking can be a problem, but this is a very Walkable neighborhood. The staff were super friendly. I loved that it is open late, and their croissant was mighty tasty. Next time I want to try their Bacon Gruyere Melt. It looks amazing.

Yelp
This place has solid donuts and other (mostly) sweet treats. The service was very good, friendly, and helpful. I was a little surprised that a dozen donuts was over $50, but maybe I just haven't kept up with the times? I opted for a half dozen to take to the office, and we were all happy with the quality and flavor. Sweet but not too sweet, which is great. They have gluten-free and vegan options as well, though I haven't given those a try yet. They did look really good though! I will definitely give in to the temptation whenever I'm in the area! Oh, and the coffee was good too!

Yelp
I've been to the Salty twice now. Both times it seems to be understaffed and the staff seems a bit confused about the menu and how to handle a line of customers. Both times they seemed pretty stressed. Most recently, I went to grab a quick lunch. The first time I was here I saw the pesto caesar salad and it caught my eye- however I was not there to get lunch the first time. So, this time I got it. It was $14 (without tip). I forgot to say no croutons, but the salad seemed to be 1/4 crouton constructed. They ran out of covers for the salad bowls- no problem, but there also were no forks to be found. The salad itself was extremely underwhelming. The coffee was good. I liked the unique flavors. It was served quickly as well. The reason I am giving The Salty three stars is because I got the key lime pie donut the first time I came here and it was amazing. Truly one of the best donuts I've had.

Yelp
The past two times we've been we've had pretty bad experiences, but the latest was just sad/disappointing and makes me not want to return. We had a gift card on their app and when we ordered the first employee couldn't figure it out so after about 5 minutes the manager took over and after failing to figure out we went to the other register. She still couldn't get it to work and after about 10 minuted fiddling with it. So I suggested I'll order it online and you can just cancel the order so I can "pay" with the gift card. Turns out the dog donut promo they were running was in store only.... I asked if they had a promo code I could use when ordering online and the manager responded "no". So after waiting 15 minutes I ended up paying $3 more than I would have if I could have paid in store. Truly terrible service, and I rarely leave a bad review.

Yelp
I ordered the mixed berry cheesecake donut which was both beautiful and delicious. The cheesecake center was the perfect texture and not too sweet. I have to say I much prefer their donuts over the other donut place nearby I had the banana crème cold foam iced latte from the summer menu to drink and it was excellent. Strong coffee and subtle fresh banana flavoring. I felt bad that there was only one person working when we got in. She was working on two big orders as the line started growing. So it took a minute to place my order, but she was friendly, calm and collected. Thankfully she had some help a little later. It's definitely cramped inside when there's 6 people in line. We parked for free on a street in the neighborhood and took a nice stroll over. I didn't like that people were just walking in from the street to use the restroom without ordering anything as if this place a rest stop.

Yelp
The donuts here are fresh and the vibes are fun and relaxing. Its a great spot to stop by here in 12south if youre walking around.

Yelp
Went there on Sunday and really liked it. Had an iced latte with almond milk and glazed donut holes, which were amazing. The donut order came with six donut holes. The place was pretty full, since it was Sunday, but we sat outside under some umbrellas they had and it was a great time.

Yelp
I really enjoy this place. This is my second visit and both times the staff has been helpful in suggestions. I got their seasonal Banana Cream Cold Foam Matcha Latte and the seasonal Vanilla Bean Cookies & Cream Cake Donut. The Matcha wasn't super sweet, which was just what I was looking food! The Banana Cream Foam also wasn't super overpowering, which was nice. And that donut...I'm still dreaming about it lol. The last visit I had the Hot Honey Chicken Salad Sandwich on a buttery, flakey croissant. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint.

Yelp
Mood: Cute Sweet treats Think I came at a good time because I've seen those lines! Friday morning about 11am was good. Service was cool; the barista & cashier were both pretty chill with smiles on their faces. Atmosphere is very hipster, coffee lovers. Nothing too crazy outside of a coffee, cafe, doughnut spot. The treats: Matcha latter 8/10 not too sweet but had that green tea flavor Chocolate sheet cake 9/10: delicious chocolate doughnut with right fluff & texture. Vegan PB&J 6/10: was semi flavorless and kinda hard when I bite into it right outside the store. If you're on 12 Ave south check them out. Try more goodies & let me know your favs.

Yelp
Well I ate and drank my items so fast so Hopefully that tells you how good it was. I just had a regular cinnamon roll that would have probably been better if it was heated up but still amazing nonetheless. I tried their summer banana matcha latte drink that was basically a mixture of everything but it was still really good! It's a cute little shop with not that much seating so beware, but there is an outdoor area too if you're feeling like you can take the heat.

Yelp
I love donuts and breakfast, so trying this spot was a must. I've been twice because my first time was in the evening and the options were slim. It's a comfortable, small spot, but not overcrowded when I went. Street parking is available on 12th and on the neighborhood streets. I didn't love anything, and it is expensive. It would be a while before I return. Like: service (kind & helpful); peach cobbler donut (specialty, fresh peach slices); brown butter & salt cake donut (buttery, moist, right amount of salt); bacon, egg, cheese sandwich (fresh croissant, smooth egg, only 1 piece of bacon though, $15) Dislike: traditional glazed (dry, bready, possibly stale)

Yelp
I learned about The Salty from Yelp and decided to pop in. I love that they promote high quality ingredients. And it shows in their products!!! I went sweet and savory. For the sweet I tried the traditional glazed, as it was a childhood fave of mine. If you can nail this, you have my heart. Well.. salty... here is my heart . The right amount of fluffy and chewy... not overly sweet but yet still plenty sweet. Brioche perfection. For the savory. The breakfast croissant. Now, I make this at home. I'm pretty well versed in this Sammie. And I can give this one an A+ with confidence. Breakfast duo winner!!

Yelp
A cute little coffee & donut spot right off 12 south! The staff was extremely helpful in helping me decide what to get, and I ended up getting their specialty donut which is the Brown butter and Salt donut which was delicious! I also got their banana cream cold foam latte which was also amazing. Will definitely be back

Yelp
The Salty gives 12 South has a new place to drop in for a coffee and pastry to start your day or for an afternoon snack. The clerk who took our order was friendly and helpful. They are making their pastries fresh all day so some of them may not be available when you order. The honey, salt cragel was a new pastry for me and I enjoyed it, no need to add butter or cream cheese. You will loose the honey/salt flavor. There is definitley someone who can bake because the cinnamon roll had great flavor throughout and the frosting was not overwelming. I definitely will have it again. We waited for the berry cheesecake donut to come out and it is good. The dough was light and the cheesecake filling perfectly creamy. The graham cracker crunch makes the experience. However, the berry flavor was missing which was too bad. Unfortunately, the brown sugar donut was average at best. It was overfried to the point grease puddled in the bottom half of the donut making for a greasy experience. The coffee is made fresh to order and was not oversweetened. A great drink anytime. Thanks. The shop itself is open, airy and the patio area is a great place to sit. The Salty is a fine place to sit for a coffee and pastry.

Yelp
My donut was AMAZING! I liked my latte, but I think next time I'll have a drip coffee or just a vanilla latte. It was just a bit too milky for me. They also have gluten free donut options and some other food items. The girl that took our order was super sweet and the barista was nice also! The Ambiance was simple and neat. I liked it, nice and clean! Im looking forward to going back!
google avatar

Lisa G.

Yelp
Nice coffee shop with indoor and outdoor seating! Coffee was super yummy... doughnuts were mostly gone because we went in the evening but the chocolate was good... definitely recommend going earlier in the day so the doughnuts are fresh! Pretty cool you can see into the kitchen area and watch them make the sweets. Customer service was fantastic and restrooms were clean.

Yelp
The Salty adds yet another option for coffee and donuts in 12 South, but the newly opened shop has some really nice features. You order at the counter and they give you a number if you're dining in. They then bring your food & drinks to you. First, they have a nice selection of sweet and savory treats. I tried the "Honey and Sea Salt Cragel." It reminded me of a glazed soft Greek Bagel with a nice honey glaze. But it's $6. Butter or cream cheese would have been $1 more. I also tried the Maple & Brown Sugar Cold Brew for $6. It was flavorful, but milkier than I expected. The Salty is nice and it has a lot going for it, including some unique pastries and lunch service (sandwiches, a salad, and a power bowl) until 3:00 pm. Their outdoor patio is spacious and wonderful, with lots of tables. There is also music coming through speakers on the patio. The location is a good one and the coffee bar makes some tasty drinks. There are also a few negatives here. First, for me, my order did not arrive at one time; my Cragel arrived quickly and my Cold Brew arrived 5 minutes later. It would have been nice if everything had arrived together. Also, please be aware there are only 8 different donuts, including 1 gluten free option and 1 Vegan option. So, only 6 if you desire fat and gluten. But, pricing and value are the real negatives here. It costs $52 for one dozen donuts. And, you're not getting anything free for that price; no 13th donut and no price break. In fact, 6 donuts cost $26, exactly half the cost of a dozen. They're not even trying to give us a quantity price break. There's also a $1.25 up charge in the fine print for adding Almond Milk, Oat Milk, or Half & Half to your coffee or espresso beverage. Yikes! Overall, the store is clean, the patio is nice, the flavors are good, but the prices are the highest in Nashville. There is no value here. You're paying more because it's in 12 South. But so is Buttermilk Ranch, Five Daughters, and Hearts.
google avatar

Amy P.

Yelp
Well, the ambiance and location is great! It's nice that it is in 12th South and the inside is really cozy and cute! The banana latte was really delicious and the iced tea was just fine. For me, I do not think the donuts really live up to others I've had in the area. I tried the brown butter donut, which was dry and almost tasted burnt. The key lime was better but lacked a lot of flavor overall. I'd come back for coffee, but skip the donuts.
google avatar

Yelp
I really enjoyed my experience at The Salty's soft opening. Sampling the menu was a great way to see what I would and wouldn't like. I loved the avocado toast the most! The decor and the aesthetic was so cute. There is indoor and outdoor seating. They offer coffee for beverages as well. The donut were huge and the glazed one was my favorite. The staff was sweet to walk you through the menu and explain what the options were. This is a great breakfast spot for the area that is not a full sit down restaurant. You can take your items with you as you stroll down 12 south.

Yelp
I do really enjoy this place and I had a really good doughnut from there and a really bad donuts so it's kind of a 50-50 shot, but that being said, the coffee is always really good. I got a cinnamon roll one time and considering the bakery, I expect to be better, but it was very, very dry
google avatar

Jordan G.

Yelp
I understand they just opened but holy moly if the service is understaffed and lacking. There were huge lines and the woman taking orders was also in charge of running kitchen orders and also boxing pastries they need more help or a better system because it is not working. I made an online order and the pickup area was not clarity marked plus the website like said card failed so I wasn't even sure if they charged it. They need to get their systems straightened out ASAP or people won't bother waiting for this.

Yelp
Local to 12S - we have lots to pick from these days in 12S but we frequently return to The Salty. The coffee and matcha is quite good, as are the donuts. They treated us like kings and queens when they launched. Very well run establishment.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious unique "cragels", which is a blend of a croissant and a bagel. Their cake donuts are delicious. Their flavored lattes are good... not super sweet, unlike most places. The bacon gruyere melt sandwich was bad. It's mainly bread with barely anything in the middle. It wasn't even warm. Their customer service is really lacking, especially at opening time. Not everything is ready and out for display until 7:30ish. They had donuts on trays towards the back, but they were not in the case. Sauces for lattes aren't ready. It's as though they should open at 8a. I understand this location recently opened, but the workers just seemed to be unprepared, confused and moody... and there were only 3 customers. I've been there a few times so this is not judgment after one experience.
google avatar

Allison B.

Yelp
Went for the grand opening and was so impressed by everything we ordered! The donuts and avocado toast were delicious and so was the iced latte.

Niki M.

Yelp
I placed a pickup order online through the website. The order was correct, the food/drink were delicious, and the service was very quick! In fact, my order was ready earlier than the time listed. When I arrived inside, the place was clean, there was no line, there was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available, and the natural sunlight lite up the indoor space-- all good vibes here. I ordered the matcha latte, mixed berry cheesecake donut, and traditional glazed donut. Highly recommend, will definitely be back!

Marissa E.

Yelp
Really yummy! Ordered an iced americano and a brown butter cake donut and they were both so good. Cute outdoor seating area.

Jen W.

Yelp
These are by far the worst donuts I've ever had in my life. I was excited about the different flavors and thought they would be fantastic but these donuts tasted stale and old. We got two breakfast sandwiches, two drinks, a doughnut, a dozen donut holes and what they call a pretzel that they said they couldn't eat because of the honey on it. It was $80 and I had to pay $12 for parking. I was really excited and really wanted this place to be great. I wouldn't have minded paying the $80 if these donuts tasted better than what I could get at the day old bakery at Kroger. But they were way worse than that. I ended up throwing away everything but the drinks and the sandwiches. None of the donuts were remotely edible.

Anon P.

Yelp
I've only tried their classic brown butter and salt donut and the honey salted cragel, as far as baked goods so- no notes. Both sweet salty combos were outstanding. The donut has this delicious crunchy bottom layer but otherwise a fluffy cake texture. And I love that they aren't so obnoxiously sweet like ahem daughters can be. Plus they have great seating in and outdoors. My only complaint is the $1.25 for alt milks, they aren't alone but I resent this price tag. You should get a whole cup of that milk for that price. But my latte (whole milk, my stomach will deal) was excellent and the cashier was super helpful in giving me the run down on their menu.

Caitlin D.

Yelp
Do not, I repeat do not! Get their matcha. I got charged $10 for a cup of iced almond milk. Very disappointing

Jesse E.

Yelp
Genuinely couldn't recommend somewhere less. TLDR: go somewhere else for breakfast. Going to start with my biggest complaint: that was the worst Matcha that I have had in Nashville. The thin cold foam added no sweetness or banana flavor and the drink lacked any natural matcha sweetness. I drink Matcha every single day, and I'm an avid supporter of local businesses and restaurants, so it's frustrating to have such a vile drink and feel so terrible paying nearly 9 bucks for it after tip. Do not order their drinks. Next I had the worst Power-bowl: 18$ for quinoa, lettuce, sweet potatoes and red onion with no protein, so of course I paid three dollars to add on the sad egg. Genuinely couldn't fathom how bad it was. Finally the outrageously priced donuts: don't even waste your time. You'll find better in Nashville, I was completely unimpressed with the cinnamon bun donut and the regular glazed. Definitly did not taste fresh. Paid over 40$ because we came into this place genuinely excited to try a new place. My friends were all equally disappointed so let's just consider this all 3 of our reviews.

Tyler S.

Yelp
Ordered the salted honey cold foam latte. Waited 20 minutes because they were packed. Once it was ready for pickup, I noticed there was no cold foam. They said they were out. No ask for a new drink. So I got a latte. Just coffee and milk for $8. And the latte was terrible. Tasted like 99% milk on ice.
