"This characterful 1720s coaching inn has a surprisingly contemporary interior matched by understated bedrooms. Dinner takes place in the intimate dining room, while lunch and afternoon tea are served in the airy glass-covered historic courtyard – the perfect spot for a sunny afternoon. In the evening, choose between a tasting menu and a seasonally-themed à la carte, where modern dishes are well-judged and nicely balanced. Be sure to pick up some goodies from their deli and wet fish shop on your way out." - Michelin Inspector

Had lunch here today, whilst our car was serviced in Exeter. We sat in the conservatory in the sunshine, with a glass of Pinot Blanc, then ordered from the fixed price lunch menu. We both chose the crispy ham hock terrine with pickled vegetables, nice contrast of textures, followed by line caught pollack, with a spicy ketchup sauce, served with potato purée, broccoli and samphire. Beautiful crisp skin on our fish, very smooth potato purée, the sauce really complimented the fish, it was spicy without being too hot. No room for dessert, but a very good cappuccino to finish.

Our now go to fish restaurant, undoubtedly the best around! We dined here with friends on Good Friday so was a full house and the food was amazing, well worth the money, a fish platter to share for £46 and add a whole lobster for just £39.. amazing value! The staff were on point too, so attentive, never had to fill our own glass once..! Can’t wait for my next visit

A disappointing visit to the restaurant here. The seafood menu we were promised online and on the phone consisted of only mussels and a gurnard dish, so we took the mussels for a starter and paid the extra for the fillet steak main course. I'm not sure why the menu choice was so small. An explanation when I asked was not forthcoming. The cider/cream 'West Country' sauce with the mussels was too light and lacked depth of taste. I thought a dozen mussels too few for the price paid. We were very disappointed not to be able to have the fish dinner we were looking forward to. The fillet steak, however, was very good. Well cooked and well presented with nice accompaniments. The extra price green beans we thought necessary and should have been included were likewise well cooked. The wine list is large but very expensive for the vintages offered. The dining room is strangely adorned with some inappropriate pictures and uninspiring decor. Best of all was the service from the young waiters and waitresses, very much worth the 12.5% service charge. We've booked The Galley for our next visit to Topsham, hoping for a good fish experience. We won't be returning to The Salutation Inn unless we know the menu in advance.

Went for dinner with my friends and it was amazing! Great portion sizes, lovely smiley staff, definitely value for money! All the food was delicious and flavourful. The macaroons were exceptionally yummy. |The place was also very clean and tidy with lovely decor.

Nice enough food but the menu lacked variety and the prices were off of the scale expensive. No pun intended as it is mainly a fish restaurant. Over £20 for a mackerel on a plate is expensive by any stretch of the imagination, even if it was seved with its head and tail!

Stayed two nights, with breakfast and dined in one night. What lovely friendly staff who couldn't do enough for us. Great welcome on arrival. Lovely warm and comfortable room and very comfortable bed. Toiletries provided, as were bottles of still and sparkling water. A little kitchen near the room offered tea, coffee, toast and cereal to help ourselves if we wanted. We had breakfast in The Glass House.|Cooked breakfast portions were enormous and lots of choice of condiments, croissants, toast, lots of coffee. Amazing home made marmalade!! Lovely young woman served us both days. Very comfortable lounge area to chill. Dinner in the small dining room in the evening was lovely with a good veggie menu. Cocktail and wine menu excellent. Lovely food and service. Only slight criticism is I found chairs too low for tables both for breakfast and dinner and I'm 5ft 6".|

Having lived in Exeter for many years I have only just got round to eating at the Salutation. We had a very very good meal with splendid friendly service recently. We will be back. (Only downside for me was that they only had one bottle of cider, as in physically one bottle rather than one type - maybe up your game a bit on stock taking)

We had been here before vavk in December 2021 for my birthday dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it. Excellent food, wine and service.||We went for lunch, hadn't booked but if was a wet Friday, not quite in a peak holiday week, and we were lucky to be accommodated. We were not disappointed. |Terrine and gazpacho starters soon disappeared and were followed by excellent main fish dishes. I could have enjoyed the wine more were I not driving, but the glass of rose I had was delicious and my partner said the same about his white. Good coffee rounded of a lovely unplanned lunch.|

Newly opened and completely revamped. Chef Tom Williams formerly worked at Gidleigh Park a reniwned 2 Michelin star restaurant and the Abode another Michael Caines establishment before starting the Salutation Inn in Topsham England. The luncheon menu offers an affordable and elegant opportunity to sample some of the finest food in the region. We each had a different dish and all the food was outstanding. We would love to return and stay overnight and sample one of the tasting menus. 9.5 out of 10 Excellent
