10 Dallas Restaurants That Give You the True ‘Local’ Experience | Eater

"There’s no combo like an ice-cold can of Pepsi and a sandwich. That’s where The Sandwich Spot comes in — this mini chain is a favorite among locals for its tried-and-true sandwich options. Try one of the specialities, like the LoneStar made with hot pastrami, roast beef, salami, and cheese on a hero or the Gold Rush with marinated chicken, hot sauce, and pepper jack cheese." - Taylor Tobin

Very nice and calm atmosphere, plenty of parking. Friendly greeting, fast service and order brought to table. I ordered a tuna fish sandwich with mayo, lettuce, tomatoes and onions. Two sauces where included, spicy, garlic and herb and both complimented the sandwich. I asked for the sauces on the side. I also ordered the potato salad, it was just ok. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone who appreciates a healthy, well made sandwich.

Google
So, we accidentally found this sandwich shop, and we are so glad we did. I had the BLT on white bread. My sister had their chicken specialty on wheat. The the bread was toasted, warm and so soft. I was so surprised by the taste. Definitely recommend trying this shop. So good pictures do not do it justice. Can't wait to go back!!

Google
The sandwiches were so good! Took my kids there and they said this was better than the other sandwich shops around. I had the turkey with jalapeño ranch sauce (bomb sauce)—it was so fresh and tasty! The owners were the kindest people! So glad we found a new sandwich spot!

Google
We ordered to go, and their website is terrible. This was our first experience and we were excited to try it. Well, when choosing bread options, I didn’t know which to choose, so I just chose white. Well, beware. White is just white, stale sandwich bread! So then you spend $14 on a sandwich you can make at home. Disappointed with the price for the amount and quality of food.

Google
The “Central Coast Fitness” sandwich on French bread was packed with flavor, and the “Veggie Pattie” on Italian was just as amazing. Both were Super fresh, perfectly balanced, and full of taste! - Sandwich Spot nailed it!”

I asked Gemini for lunch near me in Frisco, I wanted a wrap have a lot of fresh avocado, tomato and sprouts. Gemini sent me to this place that offered freshness at its best.$15.67

I love sandwiches. We made a trip here based on the reviews and so happy we did. Delicious sandwiches. We ordered a basic veggie sandwich, a chicken sandwich, and a chocolate chip cookie. The sandwiches were served with their in-house sauce. The food was fantastic! The owners were very kind to us and made sure our order was perfect. We hope to be back soon, next time with our kid. There is plenty of parking on site.

Google
The welcome was as warm and my sandwich was delicious! Every ingredient was fresh and flavorful and the options were endless. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Wow--when you're compelled to write a review just hours after visiting, you know you've stumbled upon something truly special. I found The Sandwich Spot on Yelp after searching for Dutch Crunch bread. The moment you walk in, you're greeted by the irresistible aroma of fresh vegetables and warm, crusty bread--if happiness had a scent, this would be it! Their sandwich selection is impressive. I originally drove an hour (one-way!) just for the Dutch Crunch rolls. Then I walked in, got greeted with that heavenly smell and super friendly vibes, and there was no way I was leaving without a sandwich. I went with the BLT, and let me tell you: it was loaded with crispy bacon and absolutely delicious. The place is spotless, including the restroom, and the customer service is top-notch. I called ahead to check on the Dutch Crunch rolls, and you could literally hear the smile through the phone. Jeff is fantastic, and the entire team was warm, welcoming, and genuinely appreciative--thanking me multiple times for stopping by. I highly recommend The Sandwich Spot. I'd will be making the drive again and again for the food and the friendly service.

Yelp
Meh. I really wanted to love this place, but it comes down to the food. The sandwich was good. Not great. Good. For $16.99 for one sandwich, I expect it to be packed with ingredients. At a minimum, I expect it to have at least as much filling as Jersey Mike's sandwiches. It certainly doesn't. Additionally, Jersey Mike's makes a better sandwich. They just do. Bottom line: very nice people are running this place without question. However, I likely won't return. It's just not worth the significant premium they charge for their sandwiches, when you can go to Jersey Mike's, get a much bigger and better sandwich, for a much better price. The portion size was simply unacceptable for the price. I do wish them the best of luck, as they are clearly good people.

Yelp
Nope. Totally falls short (by a mile!). I truly don't understand the glowing reviews. For starters, the Frisco club sandwich is nearly $19 (they charge an online ordering fee without any info related to the fee prior to ordering) -- basically an extremely overpriced Subway sandwich. The "Dutch crunch bread" is so hard on the top that it will cut the roof of your mouth, and the ingredients were nothing special. Honestly, Jersey Mike's and even Subway (yes, I said it!) are far better than what we had here. I was expecting an unforgettable, fresh, out-of-this-world sandwich, but I couldn't even eat the second half (not worth the calories!)-- and that says a lot. Watch Blondeswhoeat Instagram's recount of her experience and you'll get a more accurate picture of this spot. I wish them well, but serving mediocre $20 sandwiches really misses the mark.

Yelp
Sandwiches were amazing! They were so good that we came back three of the five days we were visiting Frisco lol. The owners were incredibly nice and let us try some of their specialty sauces each time. I ordered the #5 with mayo, lettuce, tomato, pepper jack, and banana peppers on a toasted Dutch Crunch roll, and it was super fresh and delish. Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
The sandwich is made wish fresh ingredients, and had a unique crust. The atmosphere is very open and friendly, and the staff are nice too. You can't go wrong coming here, they did everything right for a straightforward and effective sandwich

Yelp
This is my go-to spot for lunch! I absolutely love the service -- it's always friendly and consistent. My sandwich is always fresh and amazing. I highly recommend the Ranger Sandwich with brisket -- it never disappoints!

Yelp
I was craving some really good sandwich and found this place on Yelp and it did not disappoint! They were so friendly the moment we walked in and their service was top notch. And they really do a due diligence to keep the dining area clean. The sandwich were HUGE and we got "everything " in it. They were so delicious and definitely satisfied my cravings. The older gentleman came and offered us some spicy sauce which was perfect cause I wanted something spicier to go with it. Definitely will come back.

Yelp
I walked in and looked at the menu. There's a lot to pick from! The guy taking my order was a bit rude. I don't know how the place works or bread choices as I've never been there. He looks bored the whole time I'm talking. I order to go go sit down and wait as I'm on a work call I'm listening to. I guess they said my number already as he screamed it at me. There's only two other people in the shop FYI. Then I walk over and stand there as I didn't know it was in front on a shelf. I will never be back. The sandwich was good but not that good

Shadia Z.

Yelp
Amazing!!!!! 11/10 Would definitely go back for this and can't wait to try some others options. Service was amazing.

Ryan R.

Yelp
My toddler refers to this place as the really nice sandwich shop man. The service is the best and the food is very good. We usually get the Frisco Club and occasionally some chips and a cookie. I definitely recommend this place.

Wen S.

Yelp
Really tasty , and great customer service! I got chicken sandwich and my kid same on his size plus q cookie and coloring !

Yelp
What an incredible addition to Frisco! This is the first Texas location of what looks like a West Coast favorite, and we are so lucky to have it here. I ordered the Dutch Crunch roll with the meatball and it was phenomenal--absolutely one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. The owner, Jeff, even came over with sauces for us to try, and let me just say, the Bomb Sauce lives up to its name! The service was warm and welcoming from start to finish. Both Jeff and Yan clearly care about their customers and their food. Little tip: if you're a macaroni salad fan, do yourself a favor and order a side of it--it's delicious. We cannot wait to come back. This spot is going to be a regular for us.

Debria J.

Yelp
This new place is good. The service was great! It's a nice, quiet place to enjoy a variety of delicious sandwiches! There's an assortment of breads, sauces, and ways to have a sandwich! 37 different sandwiches, or as they say in Italy, paninos! It's definitely one of Frisco's newest jewels! A must try!!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been wanting to try The Sandwich Spot for months. I have been missing out! When I walked inside with my girls, one of the workers greeted my little ones and started asking them questions about their face paintings. He was engaging, respectful, and enthusiastic. What a fun aura he had! We had the Central Coast Fitness, Angry Bird, and one more sandwich on Dutch bread. The meats were fantastic, the veggies are fresh, and the bread is heavenly. Oh my! You do not want to miss out on the Dutch bread! Yum!
google avatar

Austin B.

Yelp
Sandwich nirvana!! Fantastic selection of all types of sandwiches and terrific service. What takes this place over the top is the bread quality and the assortment of specialty homemade sauces. A half dozen plus bread options. I got the sourdough roll and nearly cried after first touching then tasting it! The perfect crunchy top and super soft flavorful inside of the roll was perfection. They offer great sauces for your sammie. The secret sauce - olive oil garlic and herbs - absolutely makes it pop. Bomb sauce aka jalapeno ranch was phenomenal (not overly spicy). If a little mouth fire is your jam you can indulge indulge in the lava sauce (bomb sauce more jalapeno and siracha). Big props to their super friendly, helpful service. I was encouraged to try a few sauces on the side and sure glad I did! Hands down the best sandwich I've found in north Dallas /plano/frisco.

Ami J.

Yelp
$16 for a veggie sandwich with cheese is insane. And another $4 for macaroni salad? Place is good but not worth the price.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stopped in this afternoon to grab some sandwiches for a late lunch. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and the entire restaurant was exceptionally clean. They have so many great meat and veggie options on the menu and a good amount of bread options to choose from as well. Our sandwiches were fresh and the Dutch crunch bread was soft and delicious. We'll definitely be back! Our new go-to sandwich spot.

Brad B.

Yelp
Great sandwich options... a lot of creativity, names & combinations. New storefront (?), okay parking. Food was pretty good... had the pastrami cream cheese sandwich. Pasta salad was great. Only real downside is the prices being more on the high side. Will go back though

Lynn H.

Yelp
Pastrami on sourdough substitute for rye! Delicious and inexpensive Thank you A lot

Ivan G.

Yelp
Decided to stop by since the mood was a cold cut sandwich at that time. It's in a shopping center and during lunchtime was somewhat a busy. Seems likes it's family owned and regulars. Gentleman took my order, Frisco deli I believe is what I got. You choose your bread or roll you like and option for a secret sauce. Sandwich was good, I guess the secret sauce is mustard base or something of that sort and was not fond of it. Sandwich was good, just had to clean the sauce. the meats and quality were good.
google avatar

Tanner H.

Yelp
Awesome staff, locally owned. Very friendly to our family and our son. I ordered the Reuben and my wife ordered the Frisco club. Both were great. Big servings of meat, fresh taste. Will definitely plan on returning!
google avatar

Bridget H.

Yelp
I originally went to the sandwich spot in Southern California. I was absolutely thrilled to find one here! I called to order two sandwiches to go and was greeted by a friendly man. He was eager to help and had my sandwiches ready by the time I showed up. They even had fresh cookies! The Dutch crunch bread is a must have. I'll definitely be going back.

Lauren P.

Yelp
Great service and food! Dutch crunch bread is yummy. We had Shark Tank sandwich! We will be back soon!!

Yelp
I LOVED this place. I walked in and was warmly greeted and given a menu to look at the many sandwich options. The restaurant was clean and tidy. I was impressed by the amount of options on the menu. I chose the Cowboy Quake sandwich. Oh my goodness! It was great. The bomb sauce (jalepeno ranch) added a great level of spice that was cut by the bread and cream cheese. I have never had anything like the dutch crunch bread before and would go back just to get more of the bread!! I additionally was able to try some of their other sauce options and thoroughly enjoyed all. Next time I get my Cowboy Quake sandwich, I'm ordering an extra side of bomb sauce for dipping it was so good! We also got to try the coffee cake dessert and it was so moist and delicious! I am excited to try more of the many sandwich options!! Thanks for a great experience, Sandwich Spot Frisco!!
google avatar

Andy P.

Yelp
Personally it was too much bread for me but still a very good sandwich. The secret sauce was full of garlic flavor! Delicioussss!
google avatar

Edwin ..

Yelp
The definition of perfect customer service & a really fresh tasting sandwich. I don't leave many reviews but I had to for this. 10/10
google avatar

Todd S.

Yelp
Bought a sourdough loaf that was absolutely delicious. I will return to try a sandwich.

Mitchell H.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing sandwiches ! Rueben and the Pastrami are the ones I've had so far and so good! Their Dutch crunch and sour dough bread are to die for! Their owners are awesome and always glad to help and a great place to sit and chill for lunch!! Can't wait to try them all!!! Something for everyone at this family owned spot!!

Yelp
Jeff & Yan may be the kindest restaurant owners I've ever met. This was my first time into this establishment & they couldn't have been more helpful. I was met with a smile & a "Welcome! How are you?" by Jeff , along side his wife, Yan. I told them I was a new patron & Jeff immediately explained the menu to me & what they offered. Jeff asked what I had a taste for & proceeded to name off the sandwiches on the menu that correlated with what I wanted which I definitely appreciated! They offer over 30 sandwiches so it's extremely helpful when someone can number down the options to something according to your taste. After his few suggestions, I ended up going with number 31. The Angry Bird. Which consist of: Hot Pastrami, Marinated Chicken, Bacon, Pepper Jack Cheese & Psycho Sauce. It was a bit too salty for me. All the meats I love but together, they make a very salt forward combination - it needs something acidic to balance it out & tie everything together. Since they have so many sandwiches, I won't allow this one combination deter me from trying the 36 other sandwiches. I will definitely return & review the other sandwiches I try. The kindness from Jeff & Yan is really a reason in itself to come back to this spot! My only 'negative' would be the price of the Sandwhich. I've lived in California for 5 years & had a sandwich at a similar place called 'Ike's Love & Sandwiches' with the same exact concept. Their prices are the same, $14-$17 for a sub. It's a bit pricey when you can go elsewhere for a decent sandwich for cheaper. The Sandwhich Spot may want to look at changing their prices according to where they are not where the flagship restaurant happened to be. I personally don't mind paying that price but it may turn people away from returning again.
google avatar

Chad J.

Yelp
Update last review to 5 stars for sandwiches place. The meat quantity and bread quality is much better than my last visit when they first opened. Also the service is outstanding.
google avatar

Jesus F.

Yelp
Best sandwich in Texas hands down. No comparison . Clean and good service and amazing ambiance! A must try!!!

Misty H.

Yelp
First time here, will definitely come back. We had The Mona Lisa and The Ranger both on Dutch crunch. Yummmmm! People were friendly as well.
google avatar

Sonia S.

Yelp
Ordered grilled cheese and it's anything but a grilled cheese. It's a toasted in the oven cheese, which made the texture hard vs that grilled cheese sandwich one normally expects to bite into. Soup is baked potatoes and ok. I don't think I am coming back but my husband said his sandwich the Home Depot wasn't bad. I don't think "it wasn't bad" would get me to return.
google avatar

Joe M.

Yelp
IBEW 69 on Dutch crunch was excellent, quick service, quality ingredients! Darn good!
google avatar

Brandon P.

Yelp
This is an elevated sandwich experience. You just need to come see for yourself! Everything was fresh, sauces were amazing. The owners were so friendly and seem to genuinely love serving people.
google avatar

Colin B.

Yelp
A very impressive menu, with a scratch kitchen concept, and a incredible level of service, you won't find anywhere. The amount of options they present you with, from salads to BLTs and much more, it was a killer experience, and a breath of fresh air from going to your normal 'sandwich shops' Shout out to jeffery for giving us a killer experience and even better food, we will be back!
google avatar

Laticia C.

Yelp
Got the tuna with white bread: 10/10. I would get extra hot sauce next time! I should've gotten chips but it's an extra 3.99 to make it a combo. Service was great! Restaurant was clean. A little on the pricey side as sandwiches are 11.99 or 12.99 but totally worth it. I will def be back!

Brooke P.

Yelp
Great sandwich. Fast service. Friendly customer service. Generous portions. Will come again!
google avatar

Shawn A.

Yelp
Heard a lot about this new joint and had to check it out. They have a lot of choices to pick from which honestly too many is not a good business. More options means higher cost per sandwich. Which to find out... I ended up paying over 16 dollars for a sub... Pricing could be inline with the fact they're from California and that's what maybe subs go for there.... Idk... After paying for my over price sub, I was hoping to be at least blown away with taste. The taste is literally along the lines of subway. Dutch bread is alright. I can see some loving it and others not. I might come back and try a build your own, which seems to be more cost affordable. If pricing doesn't change in the future.. not sure if they will be around still. They do have some competition around here with The Great outdoor, potbelly's, and firehouse subs.
google avatar

Ronda R.

Yelp
Friendly service in a casual atmosphere. The owner/manager was not only working with the rest of the staff, but visiting tables to make sure everything was good. Whatever you order, get it on the Dutch Crunch bread-it's so satisfying. The sandwich fixings were fresh and plentiful.
google avatar

Manesseh I.

Yelp
I've been coming to the sandwich spot for a little over one month now, and we still can't get enough of this place... Ha! It doesn't help that my Pilates studio is right down the way either... L O L! Love coming here our sandwiches, always our spot on and delicious... The owners, Jeff and Yan are super sweet always welcoming. I'm really excited to have them in our community!

Andrea M.

Yelp
Meat portions were ridiculously small for the price. The meat to bread ratio was atrocious. The crunch bread had a good flavor but really needed to be toasted. Unlike other sandwich shops, they were not generous with the toppings.
google avatar

Nancy T.

Yelp
Wow!!! This is definitely my favorite sandwich ever! I was looking for a sandwich spot in the area and came across The Sandwich Spot. I'm so happy I did. I rush home eagerly to try the sandwiches. We ordered The Chicken chipotle, the veggie pattie, and the Texan dub. All I can say is " wow!" The sandwiches here are amazing. I can't rave enough about how good the sandwiches are. So much flavor. Everyone must come and try the sandwiches here. You will not be disappointed. The gentleman in the front is so kind and also you get a stamp card as well. Every 10th sandwich will be free. Awesome spot with awesome workers!! Thank you Sandwich spot I will definitely be a regular here.
google avatar

Daisy R.

Yelp
The Sandwich spot is a Bay Area staple in the deli realm and so glad they made their way to Frisco. If your a Cali native you definitely know Dutch Crunch and low and behold the Sandwich Spot is the first Deli that has this masterpiece bread available to us in the area. I have not had a deli sando like this since moving to Texas. The Frisco club is my go to (on Dutch of course), each bite is a perfect ratio of meat to bread and toppings. On the menu they offer many curated sandwich options with corky names and sauces or if you prefer your own version you can customize to your liking. Jeff and his wife Yan are always welcoming, friendly and interactive with the customers. So glad y'all made your way out here and can't wait to come back again!
google avatar

monica c.

Yelp
We ordered out for delivery. I have been reading rave reviews online and am very happy to report it's all true. Best sandwich around! We ordered the Richard Turned & the Mona Lisa. Both were great but the Richard Turned was perfection!! I highly recommend. Sandwiches were made & delivered quickly as well. Good size. Quality ingredients and the best was fresh. I will definitely eat here again.
google avatar

Jonathan L.

Yelp
The long awaited Sandwich Spot is finally here! I've been looking for a place that reminded me of The Sandwich Spot from the Bay Area. Never did I think we'd get the actual real thing. I took my family here today and was immediately welcomed by the cordial owners. We ordered 2 The Frisco High's with Bomb Sauce on Dutch Crunch thinking we would each eat half a sandwich and go next door to the Crepe restaurant for a second round. However, after taking a couple of bites into my half sandwich, I had to order another sandwich. The second sandwich I ordered was The IBEW on Dutch Crunch bread as well. Totally forgot to take a picture of the first sandwich but managed to hold myself back long enough to take a picture of the second. Both sandwiches were exceptional, but I must say the Frisco High has got to be my favorite. I highly suggest trying the Dutch Crunch bread on whichever sandwich but eaters beware... the roof of your mouth may never look the same and it is totally worth it.
google avatar

Nicole R.

Yelp
Amazing sandwhiches! The frisco Club and Chipotle Chicken were both really good!! They have over 30 sandwhiches to choose from, assortments of breads, sauces, cheeses, and meats. If you're craving a sandwich, then diffently hit this place up! The customer service was amazing. Yan was very helpful and so polite. I would definitely come back!! Check them out!!

Yelp
We went back to The Sandwich Spot today. Second visit--it's a bit of a drive. I had the Beast Mode (very good) and my wife had a Frisco Spartan (as good as mine!). The Dutch Crunch Bread is outstanding. The ingredients are fresh. The portion is generous. The owner is extremely personable. The service was quick. Clean, pleasant atmosphere. I really enjoyed the visit. HIGHLY Recommend this place.
