A Broad Street staple with a thick house blend, sharp cheddar, and smoked tomato aioli. Included in RVA Magazine’s burger roundup and loved for pairing hearty plates with craft beer and live-music brunches.

Had a good brunch at the savory grain. The breakfast burger was a bit of a shock with how tiny the biscuit was but after having the patty get a little more cooked by the kitchen it tasted amazing! Can’t wait to come back and try it again!

Google
10/10! Took a chance on this spot while visiting RVA and it exceeded our expectations. Really cool atmosphere and our server Lizzie explained the menu very well and provided great suggestions. We ordered two Blanchards Coffees, one with bourbon and the other with moonshine and they have a toasted marshmallow syrup you can have too. We ordered the Trash Plate with half home fries and half smokey gouda grits. And the shrimp and grits with chorizo. Both were amazing and full of flavor. I definitely recommend.

Google
What a well prepared gourmet meal! The best She Crab soup in Richmond. Every bite was filled with mouthful of crab meat. My daughter has the Chicken Pot Pie, it was delicious. Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf was spot on. We will definitely come back for the Crab Cake.

We hosted our 40th wedding anniversary there on Nov 5th. The side room was perfect for 29 people. The apps of pimento cheese, bruschetta, crab & artichoke dip and Brussels sprouts were great. The beet & apple salad and the spaghetti squash we had as salads were phenomenal. We all want the squash recipe! Entrees of pork chop, meatloaf and salmon were enjoyed by our guests as were the key lime, pecan and chocolate peanut butter pies. The let me bring some fall decorations for the tables and it was lovely.

Google
The brunch was great! Not a huge fan of the bacon but everything else was delicious. It’s a smaller restaurant so I’d recommend making a reservation before showing up (although they do take walk ins). Cool that they have live music as well. Would visit again!

Google
Great happy hour service from hostess and bartender. Had several $7 food items and $5 sangria was a great recommendation. Street parking can be challenging but no different than anywhere else. Fresh table flowers are a nice touch too!!

Google
We had a very disappointing brunch experience. The food came out cold for both of us. The $18 chicken and waffle dish included a very small piece of chicken, and the waffle paled in comparison to something you could make yourself at a hotel breakfast bar. Service was also underwhelming. The only positive was the live music, which was lovely. A pity.

Google
This place is amazing, we stopped in on the back end of a long road trip, mainly out of desperation. Wow what a good decision. First of all the vibe is so cozy and chill, my family felt so good in here. Our server, also the manager, sorry I forget your name! She was amazing too. The food was fantastic, I got an gnocci chicken dish, highly recommended. Very caring and warm staff, translates perfectly into the food, we'll be coming back every time we're in the area.

Yelp
Sunday brunch here is awesome. Live jazz, great service. I ordered the Savory breakfast plate with scrambled eggs and bacon. My waffle was delicious. My partner got the SG Benny -- eggs Benedict. He loved it! Our favorite part was the live jazz music. It created such a cool vibe for an already cozy atmosphere. I highly recommend this place for brunch. Enjoy!

Yelp
Enjoyed dinner at Savory Grain. First appreciate the handicapped access with very convenient bathroom which is rare for older buildings. Staff was very attentive to my needs with use of a walker. Friendly wait staff. We parked on the street and didn't notice that there were parking spots on the side, until we left. That would be a good amenity to add on the web site - or with replies to reservations. We enjoyed the Brussels Sprouts appetizer for starters. Well cooked and we both loved the flavors of other components. There was a Loooooong wait for our entrees - which I didn't mind, except that the crowds and noise level increased while we waited. I had blackened salmon with dill sauce (not much dill) which was delicious and flakey while my husband had the crab cakes which had generous portions of lump crab meat, but my husband missed spice (old bay didn't really come through for him) and wanted more breading - (he's picky that way). Sides: zucchini and cornbread for me; fries and mac & cheese for him. The cornbread was notably Yankee cornbread - sweet, thick, cakey with a wonderful crust - but with my southern girl background, it was a difference- abet a delicious one. I was served zucchini when I ordered broccolini and was given zucchini as a substitute without checking with me first. I found it strange that at 6:30 reservation, the kitchen was already out of a staple on their menu. I was offered the chance to change the side if i wanted something else, but with the long wait, I was ready to eat. Zucchini was well cooked, but lacked any spice or citrus to make it shine. Husband appreciated hot fries and mac & cheese, but reported that it was nothing special - in both presentation (no crusty top or sprinkle of paprika to make it stand out) and taste (cheese was milder than expected). With the longer wait for our entrees came more dinner guests and the volume of conversation increased so that we couldn't really have a conversation without repeating ourselves and raising our voices. Savory Grain is overall a nice spot with decent food and an upbeat vibe. But I would caution anyone looking for a quiet, cozy setting to look elsewhere. I would revisit with a group with a more lively activity level. For this specific visit, three stars is all I can muster.

Yelp
Scallops, steak, meatloaf, vegetarian options- something for most anyone. Lots of inducing side options- Mac n cheese, shoestring fries, broccolini, enticing salads like beats salad, wedge- the usual suspects. Very nice server and hostess. Steak was a lot more rare than my usual medium, broccoli slightly overcooked, my partners meatloaf was covered in spicey barbecue sauce with bacon wrap (bacon very under cooked). I'll definitely try again and go for a seafood option like the crabcakes or salad. My meal was just so-so. Not best fries in town. Good cocktails but on pricey side at $15 each. Again nice, but not a rockstar.

Yelp
The food was very good we went for brunch at 11:20am and it wasn't too busy yet but it was steady and got crowded. The crab cake sandwich was the special and very tasty plenty of meat no filler. The waffle was a nice blend of fluff and crisp. The shrimp and grits had a delectable flavor I found the sauce a little thin for my liking but flavorful. The service was good but the wait for our food was slow especially since it wasn't busy when we arrived and ordered. They brought us biscuits as an apology 2 minutes before our food finally arrived after ordering it 35/40 mins before. The jazz was a nice touch and distraction.

Yelp
Exceptional. One of my favorite restaurants in Richmond. Great ambiance. Server was friendly, attentive and not overbearing. Live trio in corner is cool and not so loud that can't have conversations. Drinks superb. Salmon and shrimp and grits delicious.

Yelp
Firstly let me say, the food here was fantastic!! The inside is cute. The music was great...There were just a few things during our brunch service that were a little less than ideal that made me give it 3 stars. Despite having a reservation we had to wait about 20 minutes for our table, and that was with me and my boyfriend running late to join our friends. We figured it was just a busy brunch so we let it slide. Secondly, it took a long time to get our food ordered and eventually delivered. There were many great specials and live music during brunch, and we had a lovely seat with cute decor, but this was a bit tough since we were already hungry and then met with more of a delay. I had wanted to order a latte but they didn't have an espresso machine, only drip, and I was fine with that, but they also didn't have any plant milk. Just cow milk, which as a lactose sensitive person, I just couldn't do it so I didn't order a coffee. That really bummed me since I figured at such a busy brunch spot in Richmond they would at least have almond or oat milk for coffee! That said, the food was incredible. Flaky buttery tasty biscuits. The salad was delicious, and I loved that there were so many quiche specials. We all left full and happy but the service was a bit lacking.

Yelp
Went for a wedding. Everything was amazing! Several people mentioned that the pot pie was the best they'd ever had. My salmon, mac and cheese, and peanut butter pie were amazing. And the brussel sprout appetizer was so delicious!

Yelp
Great drinks! Great service! And great food! I went on a Thursday night which featured a live jazz band. I appreciated the host asking if we wanted to sit closer to the band or not. The drink menu is well rounded giving creative cocktails with a variety of alcohol. I'm a huge gin fan and was excited to have multiple options on the menu. All the appetizers sounded good but we went for the spinach and crab dip. It had a nice little kick without being too much. For dinner I got the chicken pot pie which was perfect for a cold day. My friend got the meatloaf which was the perfect comfort food. My next venture to Savory Grain will be during their weekend brunch.

Yelp
The food was absolutely delicious. I got the shrimp & grits and cannot believe how incredible it tasted, and how much food it was! My fiancé got the scallops and it was unfortunately not enough food for him, but the shrimp and grits were so filling he was able to finish my plate! And we STILL had leftovers. Two happy hour wines, two appetizers (soup and salad), and two entrees ended up being $117 with a 20% tip. Overall, it was a great experience! I would go again for sure. The menu looked incredible and I had a hard time choosing.

Yelp
This place feels like a hidden gem because I haven't heard many people talk about it, but it deserves more hype! For appetizers, we had gotten the fried brussel sprouts, the pimento cheese, and the bacon-wrapped stuffed jalapeños. I can't even say which was my favorite because they were all incredible. I got the seared scallops which came with potatoes and baby zucchini. The dish as a whole was fantastic, but I'm not sure if it was just this specific batch, but the baby zucchini were incredibly bitter. I noticed one of the other members of the party left the baby zucchini alone as well, so I would recommend subbing in that side for a different one. Otherwise, I'd totally order the scallops again! I'm also not someone who regularly gets dessert at restaurants (i.e. I'll go to a dessert shop for dessert), but they do not miss here with the desserts! At least take some to-go :)

Yelp
I went on a dinner date with a friend to the Savory Grain for the first time and I'm so happy that this was the restaurant we chose! Not only does it have a beautiful interior space but it also has has lots windows and an outdoor patio so you can enjoy your meal outside in some beautiful weather. The menu is full of American style food that is super delicious and comes in generous portions. I can't emphasize enough how this is most definitely a place with quality AND quantity. My friend loved the Farmhouse Salad with Grilled Salmon and I chose the Savory Sides plate. This gave me a chance their homemade cornbread, sauteed baby bok choy, broccolini, and a fresh side salad. All of it was so fresh and flavorful. There are lots of great menu options as well as daily specials so it's difficult to just pick one thing! The serving staff is super attentive and answers any questions you may have. They also have a tasty looking brunch menu that is also accompanied by a jazz band over the weekends. The restaurant isn't huge so I do recommend making reservations and arriving early to find parking, considering that it is located so close to downtown with the majority of parking options being street parking. However, definitely make sure you do everything possible to give The Savory Grain a try!

Yelp
Mouthwatering! I met a friend for dinner with my 9 month old. They were very accomodating with her. The high chair was ready when we arrived. I ordered the three side combo which was perfect to share with her. She was able to eat some of the things that I ordered. The mac and cheese and asparagus was so heavenly. Melt in your mouth! The staff was so nice and the space is perfect for dinner with a small group. I have also eaten there with a larger group and they had a private-ish room. They also have an outdoor space.

Yelp
That little chill in the air means there's a delicious, garlicky, double-crusted Chicken Pot Pie waiting for you at The Savory Grain. They get two thumbs up for the savory, garlicky sauce topping because it really added to the creamiest if the dish without making it overly rich. It's also served in a cast iron pan which helped to keep it warm from the beginning to the end of the meal. I got the brussel sprouts as a side and while they tasted good, they were hard and needed a little more cooking time. Our server was very friendly and helpful with questions about the menu. Overall we enjoyed a very tasty meal in a relaxing space. I also ordered a Meatloaf Sandwich for my husband that was packaged well and that he really enjoyed. I'll definitely return.

Yelp
My wife is out of town, so came here alone walking the dogs. Nice patio w a breeze and around 6 tables not encroacing on each other. Perfect. Lizzie was my server, but several came out to offer treats, water, and petting the dogs--too cool. I had bacon-wrapped jalapenos to start--cheap on happy hour--and a prosecco followed by whiskey sodas. For dinner I had a Cobb salad, which was outstanding. The blue cheese crumbles reall stood out, as did the presentation of the egg and the quality of real bacon pieces--not over-cooked and not bits--real squares of bacon. I'm on keto for a diet, so salads and meat are my vlosest friends, but I want to come back for the rest of the menu w my wife when I'm done (began at 223 in Feb and down to 199 now). Great atmosphere, the music piped outside was nice and completed the vibe / ambiance. Great service and I feel like I met most of the staff coming to see the dogs--just such a stellar experience. 5 stars.

Yelp
Confession that this was a business expensed meal and that always makes it better! We were also on a weeknight, which meant plenty of space and great, attentive service. I started with a woodford reserve bourbon and coke. They have a nice bar selection (~10 bourbons) and others enjoyed some of the specialty cocktails. We tried a few apps. My favorites were the mussels and the brocollini. The warm and creamy sauce with the mussels and grilled bread was so good. The tomato bruschetta had a nice balsamic tang. For my meal, I got the grilled salmon. This was excellent and the honey garlic carrots were a great, elevated side item. We tried 4 desserts to share (8 of us). My ranking is below, all good, none quite as stand outs as the apps, entree or side. - Bread pudding - Key lime pie - Chocolate peanut butter pie - Chocolate cake Excellent meal; will definitely be back!

Yelp
We stopped here to have a couple cocktails before going out to dinner. The Margheritas are made from scratch, no nasty supermarket mixes here! It was Happy Hour by chance, and the prices were fine! Service was great, cand the outdoor seating is comfortable.
google avatar

Jen A.

Yelp
Update: The time atheist friend made strides. Only 30 minutes late this time. Just enough for a Whole Foods detour. The Brussels sprouts were cool (literally), hanging out with their equally chilled friends--red pepper and goat cheese. Crispy, fried artichoke pieces joined the mix, creating a plate that was a disjointed blend of cold warm. The happy hour sangrias? Absolutely flawless. The crab dip and she-crab(yes, I am! But not about the restaurant or my friend) soup were top-tier. And the staff? Still the kind of people who make you want to return.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my first jazz brunch visit to the Savory Grain! The service was great as was the ambiance. I had the steak and eggs with home fries and a side of gouda corgrits. It was all very tasty. I had a mimosa with vodka to wash it all down. It was a nice day so I sat on the patio. The jazz band today was a delightful addition. Will be back very soon!

Loc P.

Yelp
We wanted to like this place. But alas it was not meant to be. The mussels were extraordinarily dry and tasted plain. I have ordered and made steamed mussels many times. There's always a ton of flavorful broth. The mussels were dried out completely. The bottom of the bowl had no broth so what's the point of serving bread with this app if there's no broth? As far as the fries, half were cold and soggy. And I paid extra for the fries. The entrées were equally unimpressive. Nothing tasted fresh or made with attention to details. My crabcakes were not crispy or hot. The mac-n-cheese was overcooked and tasted like it's been sitting out all day. The brussel sprouts had no crunch and tasted like they were precooked and reheated. My wife's ribeye had no seasoning. It was bland. How do you NOT season a steak before cooking or serving it? I want this place to succeed. But the fundamentals were lacking. This place needs substantial improvements to survive. Just sayin'.

Yelp
The Savory Grain Restaurant offers delicious New American dining, offering a variety of draft beers and craft cocktails in a fun, laid-back, warm, and inviting atmosphere. The theme of the restaurant is a nice mix up of offering local ingredients in order to create a diverse seasonal menu that has the complexity that appeals to the die hard "foodies" as well as some classics that the "meat-and-potatoes" crowd can enjoy. We ordered the pork chop with a watercress and fennel salad and lamb chops. The pork chop was grilled nicely and the watercress and fennel salad with pomegranate seeds paired very well together...the salad didn't just feel like an afterthought but two items that complimented each other. Additionally, the server sent over an extra pork chop because the pork chop we originally got was small and the chef sent another one without us saying anything. The true star of the show though, was the chicken pot pie. The chicken pot pie, which another member of our party ordered, was one of the best chicken pot pies I ever tasted. The menu is interesting enough and well executed enough that it's a menu that makes me want to come back and try the whole menu! The drink offerings were diverse and well thought out, it was nice to see interesting wine offerings like a Tempranillo on the menu and a variety of rotating local craft beer. No matter your drink taste, there seems to be interesting cocktails, wine, or beer to wet your whistle to. The service, vibe, and jazz music (albeit a little loud) were all nice touches as well that improved the whole experience and make me want to visit again.

Yelp
Customer service excellent and food was outstanding! Great spot, will be back definitely

Herbert H.

Yelp
Service: Very Good Ambiance: Very good, a little loud, typical of Fan restaurants. Thank goodness, no TV's. Food: a little disappointing. I ordered the ribeye, medium rare. It came medium well and a little dry. Additionally, I ordered the side salad. It came on the rather small plate together with the steak and mashed potatoes making everything a little difficult to eat. My wife ordered the pork chop. It was overcooked, dry and tough. I wanted to like this restaurant but I doubt we will go back again.

Yelp
Yum! Chicken n' waffles! I came here with my sweet friend and we enjoyed the ambiance, the service and the food at Savory Grain!! I also was permitted to buy a few of their small "pint" glasses which I use all the time! The parking can be a bit of a challenge, but this restaurant is worth a gander! I can "wheat" to go back!

Yelp
We visited The Savory Grain for their jazz brunch. We were a group of four celebrating our two friend's new jobs. We learned about the jazz brunch the night before our reservation and were pleasantly surprised. The music was relaxing and lovely. I appreciated that it wasn't overpowering and that it fit right in. The Savory Grain is a gorgeous space and has amazing natural lighting. I loved that it was right next to a Pulse stop. They seemed really busy, so it took us a little to be seated for our reservation. We came around noon on a Sunday. Two of us got their mimosa (which is a generous full cup serve) and the other two got coffee. We waited about 40 minutes for our food. We didn't mind, but it's something to note if you're in more of a rush. We really loved our brunch here. They were out of a couple things, but this wasn't a problem for us (just shows you how yummy things are here). The food was good. I loved the grilled apple salad with chicken. It was so refreshing and delicious, the dried figs and Buskey Cider vinaigrette really took it to the next level. I normally don't get salads out, but I definitely recommend trying this one. My partner adored his quiche of the day. Everyone was really happy with the food they got. I can't wait to return to try their evening menu. I highly recommend checking this place out.

Yelp
Two stars for the live jazz on Thursdays and the polite staff. The quartet was outstanding. I tried the famous chicken pot pie and found it to be profoundly under-seasoned and bland. I had a glass of wine and a cocktail that was less than a fourth of actual drink, which was made to look like more by using a large ice cube. I love a good cocktail and have no problem paying $13, but this felt like robbery. It's unfortunate when bars use the large ice cube trick to make up for how little is actually going into the drink. I may go back for jazz, but if the chicken pot pie is held in high regard, I'm hesitant to try anything else.

Yelp
Reservation : Highly recommended Parking: Available on street or small lots on the side of the restaurant Ambience: Intimate setting with an amazing small jazz band. Perfect for brunch with friends or a cute date night. Cocktail: Strawberry Mimosa (4/5 stars) I expected a strawberry purée or juice but it was a side of orange juice with strawberry juice added to it Brunch: I ordered the brunch burger with home fries. I ordered a medium well done burger but it came well done ( wasn't happy about it) The burger is on a biscuit vs a traditional bun. The biscuit wasn't fresh and fell apart before I could finish eating. The home fries were delicious. (3.5/5 stars) My friend ordered Savory Breakfast Plate with scrambled eggs, Chicken and the speciality pumpkin spice waffle. The waffle was delicious. (4/5 stars) Service: The waitress was attentive to our needs and very helpful when ordering. Overall, the ambiance is nice and the food and service was good. I would return but order something different.

Yelp
Burger was great! Potatoes coulda used a little seating but still good and the waffle and syrup were real goood

Yelp
So this place gets 5 stars because it succeeds in food, service and ambiance. We were greeted by Lizzy who is a bubbly, engaging genuine soul. To start we ordered bruschetta. It was lit. Now it isn't standard bruschetta, the tomatoes come in a somewhat runny form, soaked in balsamic but the taste is magnificent. This dish is a triumph. Then my bae ordered the blackened salmon with Brussels sprouts and Mac and cheese. Everything tasted phenomenal. The Mac and cheese is penne noodles with a sauce but tastes like baked Mac or close to it. THEN I ordered the chicken pot pie. Whisk me back to childhood, on a cold day with a comforting meal! The flavor packed a punch and the crust could have easily been part of a peach cobbler. Now I already told you about how cool Lizzy was- but the venue has a nice New York City street restaurant vibe. It's cozy, tasty and downright delicious. Plus they have Port wine for dessert. We heard they have a Sunday jazz brunch we are looking forward to coming to check it out. Go try this place. You can thank me now.

Yelp
I came here for dinner per a few recommendation and was immediately impressed by the fun interior. Our server was super knowledgeable about the menu and helped guide a few of our choices! I ordered a blood orange sangria, which was good- I originally was wanting the peach but they were out of it. For food I ordered the crab cakes with sides of cornbread and root veggies. I was a little disappointed with how the food turned out, not quite all that I had made it up to be with other peoples reviews, however, the cornbread was absolutely delicious. I would go again just to have it! Overall, I'd like to again, especially for their brunch menu- it's such a fun atmosphere, and I have high hopes that the food will be even more delicious the next time around.

Yelp
Actually 3.5 stars! We were there on Sunday branch, but didn't make reservations so we had to wait like 30 minutes. When they called us back for our table, they were not ready at all, so we had to wait again (strike 1) Nice, cute holiday decor inside and outside the restaurant, and live Jazz music was on, since the restaurant was kind of small and tight table setting, it could be overwhelming for some people. There's already water pitcher on our table but no glass for the water. The waiters noticed but came back with empty hands (strike 2) said to us "we're still washing the glasses" .... Okay.... I got breakfast burger without bacon, medium rare. The waiter asked how I want my burger and that's how I ordered. But unfortunately, there were lots of bacon on the bottom of burger (not on the top) and meat cooked well done. (Strike 3) If they can't cook the way we asked, don't even bother to ask how we want, then we don't feel disappointed. The food was good, but I think they just don't communicate good each others.
google avatar

Yelp
Incredible! Ambience was great, food was really just a delight. I got the blackened salmon, girlfriend got the burger, and we ordered the bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers to start. First off-salmon was cooked perfectly, flaky and not overcooked or dry. I highly recommend the honey Brussels sprouts as well, they were the perfect compliment to the acidity of the salmon with its sauce. Overall, some of the best food I've had in Richmond, and definitely the best American fare. I will definitely be returning.

Tony R.

Yelp
The FOH was amazing. Not sure what was going on in the kitchen. All of our food was cold. The chicken pot pie came highly recommended however when this dish hit the table it had no chicken. It was chicken flavored with maybe a bouillon or chicken base and a few peas (I think) with some pastry on top. Not great. We had the crab artichoke dip which was tasty, not enough crostini for our party. The server was so sweet and attentive however the extra crostini we asked for didn't arrive until we were ready for the bill and it was covered in balsamic glaze for some reason. The drinks were fantastic, host: super polite, server: amazing. Kitchen... what's going on in the BOH?

Yelp
We wanted something light for dinner since we were going for drinks and dessert later. This seemed like a perfect spot to get a good salad. Service was great. The staff is attentive without being overbearing. The atmosphere is very relaxed with a slight upscale feel. Very nice spot for a date night or girls night out. I ordered the Cobb salad and added grilled chicken and subbed the ranch dressing for the honey balsamic vinaigrette. This salad was very filling and the chicken was well seasoned and juicy. It was smoking when the bowl hit the table it was that fresh off the grill. The salad dressing went well with the ingredients in the salad too. My friend got the warm kale salad. She thought it was delicious to the point she ate all of her salad. We enjoyed the atmosphere and vibe of the place. I highly recommend anyone try this spot.

Nathan S.

Yelp
Great meal for reasonable price. Had crab cakes and ribeye. Excellent brussel sprouts. Didn't have room for dessert but great options.

HV D.

Yelp
I never got to try the food because I was never served. A couple of girls left after me because they didn't receive service. The restaurant was empty and now I can see why

Yelp
Part of our party arrived about an hour before our 7 pm reservation and was seated right away. We had appetizers and happy hour drinks while awaiting the remaining persons. We found the place warm and cozy. The appetizers were excellent. The Brussels sprouts were excellent, not tasting like Brussels sprouts at all. The jalapeño bacon wrapped dish was excellent too. All of the entrees were great and big portions. The meatloaf I had did not need the red sauce but was still very good. Chicken pot pie had a little too much liquid but there was none to take home. Minor critiques. Service was excellent and we were not rushed to eat and exit. I'll be back.

Faith D.

Yelp
The food was great and the service. I will note we went on a Saturday and it is very noisy so if you want a quieter experience, go when it is not a prime time.

Paul M.

Yelp
Food is excellent & service was above average. The late night jazz (03.05) was excellent .

Yelp
After visiting the Body Works display at theRichmond museum, we decided to try the savory grain for brunch. We needed a table for five with one of the five being a 4 year old. The hostess at the door said it would be about 15 minutes. It was going to be a little too long because we had an appointment later on that day. As I was getting back in the car, the hostess came out and said a a table was just leaving and they could set us. They cleaned the table off, and brought water. Our waitress came out, and brought a plate sized Belgian waffle for the four-year-old. He was pleasantly surprised and happy, not wait for the grown-ups before he could eat. In the window, was a two-man band with a cello and saxophone, setting a nice ambience in the restaurant. The waitress had explained that the restaurant was very busy. She took our orders for drinks and the food at the same time. The mimosa drinks were tasty. It took a bit and a reminder to get the ice tea ordered, but it eventually was brought out and was delicious. The food as a whole was excellent. I split the steak and eggs with the four year-old (absolutely loves medium rare steak). I was going to eat the eggs ordered, scrambled with cheese and the potatoes. I ordered an extra bowl of fruit because I knew he would eat the one for that plate. I had to ask for the eggs because they were not brought out on the steak and home fries platter. It was remedied quickly. and they were delicious. Another person at the table, ordered salad with grilled chicken, but did not receive the chicken. When it was brought to the attention of the waitress and asked to just be taken off the bill, The waitress offered to get it out within three minutes. But it was OK as is, so we just had it removed from the bill. The bacon, pimento cheese, jalapeño quiche was so flavorful and tasty. No complaints at all. So, all in all the place was great. Sure, there were hiccups. Some communication between the kitchen and the waitress seemed a little off, but the place was busy. They were nothing but helpful, kind, and accommodating. We all would definitely go back there again.

Yelp
I've been here twice and each time was great, the shrimp and grits are my favorite, but the fried green tomatoes are good as well

Yelp
I really enjoy the ambiance of The Savory Grain. It feels comfortable and sophisticated simultaneously. Stopped for dinner with a large party and was seated in the back room. This is a nice space for a larger group as we could all hear each other well and felt secluded from the rest of the restaurant.. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful with 9 different orders and payments. The blackened salmon I ordered was good but was over cooked with average roux based macaroni and cheese. The star of the dinner for me was the cornbread with its toasty edges and generous butter. An enjoyable experience but seems to be overpriced for the quality of food offered.

Yelp
Everything about this place is on point. From staff, ambiance, to the DELICIOUS food! The Potpie is the best I have ever eaten. It's so comforting, you can share it, well if you're nice you can. It's hard not to eat a 6"skillet worth of the potpie by yourself. Then the house made desserts just seal the deal! It's a hidden gem in Richmond that is worth every penny!!

Yelp
Best chicken pot pie in RVA hands down..... so far. Each time I see a restaurant with chicken pot pie on their menu. I have to try it. It's a classic favorite of mine! Service was great and amazing. No one tells you this... but the meatloaf has a little kick to it. It won't burn your mouth but don't expect just regular meatloaf. If I ever want chicken pot pie this is the place to go! Oh and the Crème brûlée bread pudding was absolutely amazing as well!

Yelp
I visited this restaurant for the first time more than two years ago. I recall the experience was okay but the food all arrived lukewarm or cold. However, it was right after they had an internal changeover in their kitchen, so I decided to wait until a second visit to review them. And here we are! I'm happy to report that everything was piping hot on arrival yesterday. And also delicious! So that's obviously a big plus too. My mom and I were some of the only people in the restaurant for our early dinner. We were told about the happy hour specials (very nice beer options...but I couldn't partake thanks to Dry January). I ordered a lemonade instead, and it was quite good. We both started with the creamy chicken soup to start. It was super tasty and well done. A perfect starter for this time of year/any chilly weather day. For my meal, I was torn between the fried chicken sandwich and the chicken pot pie, but the server assured me the pot pie was the right move. I'd agree with her! It was so darn good, traditional, but also special. Arrived in a piping hot cast-iron skillet. There was a spice in it I couldn't pinpoint, but whatever it was...it worked. I had to wrap up leftovers also since the portion was huge (and looked like an actual pie the way it was layered). My mom had the shrimp and grits entree and raved about it also. We were both stuffed after our entrees, so the night ended there. I'm moving closer to SG this weekend, so I'd definitely consider another visit and probably won't wait another two years to return.

Yelp
Loved this restaurant. I really like the ambiance and the food was delicious. We had the crap did and jalapeños wrapped in bacon as an appetizer. For dinner I had the meatloaf wrapped in bacon. Would highly recommend and plan to go back!

Yelp
Loved the savory grain. Should come here for happy hour as drafts are only 5 dollars. The food is exceptional, fresh, seasonal, and veggie and gluten free friendly

Yelp
Sunday funday with my favorite baby Sister! We decided to dine here after reading the posts and reviews plus my Sis had been here for dinner and said it was amazing! So I made a reservation we were both prompt so we were seated immediately. Super nice waitstaff greeted us (we noticed immediately that they were understaffed but they were amazing and made sure we had what we needed, just allowed more patience) and we placed our beverage order which we opted for the strawberry mimosas! The strawberry was a bit overwhelming but good quality juice and champagne! Next go round we would opt for the OG (orange juice). There was a bit of wait to get our food but the quality and taste made up for it. We both agreed if the food was hot we would have rated higher, my Sister's shrimp and grits were flavorful and plentiful! My breakfast plate had eggs, half waffle, bacon, potatoes and fruit! All reasonably priced as well! To top off the morning was the jazz quartet that played while we dined and caught up on life! We both are returning for another amazing dining experience soon!

Yelp
I went to The Savory Grain on February of 2018 for lunch, and for some strange reason failed to write a Yelp review. Fast forward to this past Friday and I got to try this place for dinner. Folks, this place does not disappoint! I'm a sucker for a good burger, a straight fool for shrimp Po'boy, but I forced myself to order the meatloaf. I order that other stuff all the time. How often do you find meatloaf on the menu? Exactly. I need to be more adventurous with my menu selections. Man does not live on premium burgers and Po'boys alone. I'm so glad I made right the choice. The meatloaf was killer. It had the perfect meat to filler ratio and a fantastic glaze on it. It was divine. My son took a bite and gave it the approving 14 year old nod. My wife loved it too and may have been having food envy. She had chicken fried QUAIL and was having mild food envy over a meatloaf!? Shiiiiiiiiiii. The meatloaf is that good. The Mac and Cheese that came with it was quite rich for my taste buds but I still ate all of it. We don't let any mac and cheese go to waste. To round out the dish they put Succotash on it. Bleh. Succotash is what southern parents forced their kids to eat as punishment. Well, I like Lima Beans Tony! Well good for you nut job. They ate Succotash during the Great Depression. Poor kids. Anyway. Give me a heap of mashed potatoes to go with my God Loaf and I'd probably die and go to heaven. Just writing this review makes me want to attempt my own meatloaf. How about some green beans or roasted Brussel sprouts or grilled zucchini? I just looked at the menu and I realized I was fast asleep at the wheel. Next time I go I'm swapping that Succotash for their white cheddar mashed potatoes, summer squash medley, or sautéed okra and tomatoes. Perfect!

Yelp
Everything was great..price, ambiance, food and service! I'm plant based and still had options. The spaghetti squash was awesome.
