The Savoy Hotel on Little Collins Melbourne

We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the executive King room. Spacious, clean, comfortable bed & actually very quiet. We had dinner at the restaurant which was excellent. Based on that we decided to partake in the Buffet Breakfast. Big mistake & thus the reduction of 2 stars. It was an utter disgrace, the worst we have ever experienced. The staff would periodically check the hot offerings, but it was never replaced because no one was eating the garbage. Lifting the lid on the scrambled egg would have you dry retching. It was disgusting & inedible. The bacon had been sitting there for hours & the sausages were lukewarm at best. Seriously, youd be better walking down to maccas for a mcmuffin for 10% of the price. By all means consider staying but give breakfast a miss

Went to Alexander bar for dinner this past New years. When we walked in we were acknowledged and fitted in a back corner by the bar. The first waiter acknowledged our food requirements that I had stated when booking and told us the special menu. Then he left us and we got another waiter who didn't have a clue. We ordered drinks then had to go to the bar to ask for the waiter to order our food. When we finally got our food it was fabulous except when you're paying $45 for shrimp rossetti you would think you would get more then 3 shrimp in it. After getting our food we were forgotten in the corner and would have liked more wine and even dessert but didn't feel like trying to find the waiter again so we paid and left.

Well located across from Southern cross station for transport to the airport and easy to walk around city centre from the hotel, friendly staff, smooth check in/out , room well serviced. We had a comfortable stay. Only negative was 1 lift was out of action over the 3 days.

We caught the Ferry from Portarlington specifically to dine and stay at the Savoy. The Alexander Bar is wonderful with Bar Manager Gerard knowledgeable and passionate about his craft. The hotel is classy, very classy. Food is reasonably priced and great quality. Loved our room with spectacularly good water pressure in the shower.

My daughter and I had a lovely stay at the Savoy Hotel. We arrived very early and the staff were so accommodating in holding our bags - so we could begin shopping and return when our room was ready. The staff were so kind and thoughtful and even sent a little birthday cake and note up to our room for my daughter - she was so thrilled! Our room was spacious and comfortable and we both had a great sleep. Close proximity to all the shops, our dinner reservation at Crown and the station for our train home. We could walk everywhere we needed to go. Perfect

The room was the biggest let down of the experience, the staff were friendly especially the concierge was amazing. The menu for room service was very average and there was no printed menu or phone in our room. Our room faced the inside lobby, no windows with natural light, the curtains were not shear enough to feel like we could have them open without people seeing into our room from the corridor. The room had no table or chairs to eat or rest at, only a small wobbly office table in the corner with a stained office chair. The bathroom had no where to put a toiletry bag, no hooks for hanging anything, no drinking glasses, no shower curtain to stop water going everywhere. Our face towels were not replaced, our milk was not refilled the next day, you could not fill the jug in the sink or waterbottles, there was no cutlery other than 2 tea spoons. The tiles on the floor in the bathroom were horrendously laid. I don't think the fan in the bathroom was working well, The lighting in the room was terrible and the door between the next room and ours were both unlocked. It was a very disappointing room for the price per night. I would not go back to this hotel just based on the room.

We had three nights at the Savoy and what a wonderful experience it was. The decor was an amazing art deco delight. Our room was very spacious and clean. Bed and pillows were comfortable. Our meals were delish. Breakfast buffet was great and a shoutout to the chef for the creamy scrambled eggs. The main lobby bar had a signature cocktail list. Tried quite a few but my favourite was Florence and the Margarita. Gerard the senior bartender was a wealth of knowledge regarding the drinks and outstanding customer service. It’s conveniently located with Southern Cross train station across the road. Definitely would stay here again.

I only stayed one night here but I had a great time. I actually had a problem with my airbnb, and had to find a place quickly for the evening. Luckily the Savoy was nearby and reasonably priced (and had availability). The lobby looks renovated, all clean and marble-y. There isn't a doorman or automatic doors, which was slightly annoying to me since I was traveling heavy. Ashleigh at reception was really nice and helpful. The room was nice (room 811, photos below) - I had a single queen room and I found it to be perfect. The bathroom was pretty sexy and the view was great - you can see Southern Cross Station out the window! I opted for the pre-paid breakfast - note that you book it in advance, but then pay for it later. They had a wonderful spread of hot breakfast and also yogurts, pastries and fruits. I couldn't try everything. The only thing I didn't care for was the carpets in the hallways - it's plush which is nice, but it was really hard to wheel my suitcases to my room. So I took them one at a time. Would stay here again and would recommend.

Good location but small rooms. It was walking distance to the Docklands and the city center so it made for a good central location. The rooms are small but clean. They also don't offer free wifi in the room except for a free 30 minutes in the lobby. This place was decent if you're only there to sleep and shower.

The Vibe in Spencer st is a prime example of pretentious BS personified. The best thing about this place is the beautiful facade of the heritage listed building its in. Opposite Southern Cross station in a premium location central to everything that is Melbourne, it offers four star accommodation at 10 star prices. It does house a cool bar that's open til late but you'll pay a premium price for the drinks as well. The restaurant, as you could guess is overpriced for snobbish shit food. Bleeding steaks with a bit of asparagus for $50 just doesn't cut it for me. Parking on site, 24 hour reception and all the mod cons you'd expect for a nice hotel. The problem is just a block up you can get a lot better service, views of the Docklands, just as nice rooms and the same facilities and services for half the price. May be good as a conference venue because it does have about five different function spaces. But for me, Vibe definitely need to up the ante - Harbour View and the Atlantis are just up the road kicking their asses all over the place.

As far as good budget accommodation goes Vibe Savoy really hit the mark for me. I have stayed in quite a few 'çheap hotels' throughout Melbourne over the years and this really takes the cake. Check in was extremely simple and the customer service here was excellent. The staff took my bags, as I was early and stored them for me, delivering them to my room before I returned. They also offered to store my friend's bag who was flying out of Melbourne later that day. The room, was excellent, no views to speak of but I wasn't planning on spending any time in my room other then for sleeping anyway. I did have a window facing some terraces, so it did have a nice outlook. I was very happy with how clean the hotel was which is generally my main concern wherever I stay. The rooms have been extremely well renovated and they have certainly done a great job restoring the original features of this hotel that was originally built in 1925. My room included a bath which was a nice bonus. Heating was excellent and there was a well stocked mini-bar and movies all available for a price. Location-wise, if you are going to Etihad Stadium or need to be close to Southern Cross Station this is a great location to stay, it is also close to the CBD with multiple trams running for the nearby streets, and walking distance or a tram ride to Crown and South Wharf. The Skybus is also literally crawling distance from the hotel for easy access to and from the airport. Depending on what booking site you use you should be able to book a room here for well under $100.00 a night. I would highly recommend Vibe Savoy as a low budget hotel option. I really couldn't fault my stay here. Great work Vibe Savoy, I will definitely be back at some stage.

The bar here is great! It's been updated recently and now serves American style food. The atmosphere, food and drink are worth a visit! Another great spot in Melbourne and really good place to drop by for pre-game drinks before heading to Etihad Stadium.

This is a late check in from me, note lunch is from 12-2pm. A cool retreat on a warm afternoon & they do an awesome porterhouse! Have had many a lunch here & always found the food great & the staff lovely. Thanks to Hung & Peter for the exemplary service, it is always a pleasure:)

I attended a wedding here last year, and booked a room for the night. The room itself was pretty small and basic, old style furniture, and no view. I expected much more for the price we were paying. The bed was pretty uncomfortable, and the aircon wasn't too flash, so I spent most of the night tossing and turning. The wedding reception itself was also less than I expected. The food was below average, and the service was too. Overall, the best thing about this place was its location, opposite Southern Cross and Hungry Jacks, which came in very handy after the wedding when we all needed food!

City hotel rooms are expensive no matter where you go, so of course Melbourne is no different. The Vibe is located in a great spot in the city.You are therefore paying for the location more than anything else. The heritage listed building is beautiful on the outside, with architecture from another era. On the inside the building is far more modern and doesnt have anywhere near the grandeur you might expect from the outside. But the rooms suit your purpose if you are looking for a clean comfortable place to stay in the city. I had no concerns during my stay, though I am fairly easy to please so if you are fussy perhaps my review may not meet your standards. Check in and out was very straight forward. I found the bed comfortable, and slept very well.To me, that is all that is important unless you are looking for a really special stay on a special occasion. Like i said stay for the location.

Great location , if you re going to jeffs shed or along the river for a night out,as you're only a short walk back to here. The rooms are nice and new, but the bathrooms were built for very small people, maybe Asian influence ? Not sure, but I'm only 5'2 and small build and I was not that happy with the postage stamp bathroom. I could see some people just able to use it.

Stayed a few nights here on a recent trip to Australia. Location was perfect. Transport hub and all the shops you need just across the street. The rooms are great if you generally plan to just shower and sleep there (which was my plan). Loved the climate control. Hated the tiny bar fridge that was filled with over-priced items leaving little room for me to place my own stuff purchased from the supermarket across the street. The rooms could probably do with a spruce up, paint and carpet especially. Hallway smelt a little off when exiting lift each day. Id recommend putting the TV up on the wall and eliminate the gigantic unit it sits in and it'd really open up the small space. Bed was very comfortable. Good value meals in the downstairs bar. If you just need a place to sleep in a prime location with everything at the doorstep, then this place will suit nicely. With a few small improvements it could really become a premium hotel.

I would not recommend this hotel. It's biggest issue is that two rooms on every floor look into a center, enclosed courtyard of sorts above the restaurant. So essentially our room was above the restaurant and looked directly across to the elevators. Even worse, you had to have the thick curtains drawn so people couldn't see right into your room, making your room for all intents and purposes windowless. It was completely bizarre, having your hotel room function as an aquarium for the rest of the floor. The one in ten chance that you might get one of these rooms is reason enough not to stay here. They also charge $22 per day for wifi, which is totally archaic for a four star hotel these days. The staff are also completely ambivalent and unknowledgeable. It was unclear how to have our car taken care of as there is no doorperson or valet, so I ducked into an alley while my partner ran in to inquire. They instructed us to do a u-turn at the end of the street on a busy stretch of road across from Southern Station during rush hour! When she suggested that wasn't really feasible all she said was that she did not recommend trying to otherwise get us turned around. And when my partner left she told her 'good luck.' On one occasion I called down to ask if they had laundry service or could recommend a laundromat. They said they would get right back to us but never called back. They also had brochures out for a free fitness pass to a local gym. When we asked about the brochures the next day the reception person had no clue what we were talking about, and when he eventually clued in he vaguely explained they were part of some 'fitness package' which he couldn't articulate, let us have the pass anyway, and sent us off to the gym which wasn't open as it's closed weekends. Absolutely ridiculous. This hotel is a joke and was the only bad part of our stay in Melbourne.
