The Best London Restaurants for Counter Dining: Where to Eat at the Bar | Eater London

"Elite fishmonger / restaurant The Sea, The Sea has doubled up in Haggerston, and its cinematic dining counter offers cooking to match, devised by Leandro Carreira. Carreira’s trajectory — from the interesting, but ultimately flawed Londrino in Bermondsey, through to this counter and its counterpart on Pavilion Road — is upward, and his most exciting flourishes, from a lobster rice sandu to peerless ice cream making, are all present here." - Daisy Meager

The Sea The Sea Pavilion Road Restaurant Will Open in Haggerston | Eater London

"An inventively luxurious Knightsbridge fishmonger-turned-restaurant is relocating to Haggerston, bringing its dry-aged fish and a loosely Portuguese-inflected seafood menu led by chef Leo Carreira (formerly of Viajante, Lyle’s and Londrino). The operation has applied for a licence to open at 337 Acton Mews in July, taking over the site of a board-game café, with a counter due to open in September. Although the move contrasts with its original Knightsbridge address, the Acton Mews/Pavilion Road scene feels a fitting home for a spot that pairs grower champagne and countless oysters with playful, improvisational dishes — for example a lobster sandu made with nori, sushi rice and coral — reflecting a shift from the razor-edged restraint of Carreira’s previous Bermondsey project. The venture is run in partnership with Alex Hunter (whose Bonnie Gull group closed in 2021), and expands the fishmonger side of the business that, during the pandemic, began London-wide delivery of sea bream, whole turbot and sashimi-cut tuna and will include a walk-in dry-ageing room for wholesale fish orders." - James Hansen

Had my bday dinner here and was just the cutest place run by 2 Irish chefs. By day the place is a fishmonger and by night it’s a little 10 seat kitchen table in the big fridge! Every dish was delicious especially the butter scallops. Loved the flavours and the sauces. We had the set menu which was reasonably priced given it was all seafood and service was lovely. Would definitely recommend this pop up before they close ☺️

We had an amazing experience at lunch, having the ability to dine in the kitchen made it one of the most unique dining experiences we have had. The food was great and the service incredibly friendly

great dining experience with techno music and dim lighting. the quality of ingredients were definitely amazing and quite some Japanese inspired ingredients or cooking techniques were used. however, I found the dishes to be lacking the wow factor. in addition, in my opinion, some of the dishes had slightly intense flavors (sauces or the combination) that covered the natural sweetness of the seafood itself. nevertheless, as mentioned above, the overall dining experience was still very enjoyable. I would still recommend the restaurant for the overall experience.

Very disappointing experience. My boyfriend and I booked this place for dinner for our Christmas celebration after seeing the lovely pictures on google as the place looked fun and beautiful and the food spectacular. Unfortunately we got there and found out that the pictures hadn’t been updated because they got rid of the bar completely and now it’s a tiny table in the dark next to the fishmonger. Was absolutely freezing with a tiny heater blowing hot air on your face. We obviously explained that we weren’t expecting that and wanted to leave and the chef came out and said they had to charge us £60 for cancelling. I think this is outrageous and not how you are supposed to treat costumers (potential costumers) when is completely their fault for misrepresenting what the place is.

I ate here 18 months ago and it was absolutely incredible. Probably the best seafood dining experience I have ever had. However on a recent visit, it was no where near as fresh seafood unfortunately. After speaking to a member of staff it seems they do not store the seafood in their own on site designated tanks anymore. So I assume that is the reason behind the decline.

Probably one of the best meals I’ve ever had: scientific precision mixed with a complete understanding of what means seafloor sing; nothing is hiding the fish, every dish serves to highlight the qualities of it. And the drinks menu is absolutely perfectly aligned with the menu. A wonderful experience that I cannot wait to repeat. Bravo!

What an amazing night! From when we walked through the door till when we left we felt so looked after. Every dish was so unique and the flavours were insane. The wines they offer are exceptional and definitely not wines you could normally find. The whole experience was amazing and I can’t wait to come back.

The best culinary experience I've had in my three years of living in London. From start to finish our whole night was just wonderful. So much attention to detail in all aspects of the experience. The food itself was out of this world, with such amazing combinations of flavours and stunning ingredients. Seeing the chefs prep all the food right in front of us was an absolute treat as well.
