The Sentinel

Edit - 12/1/25 It has now been three months and I have yet to receive my refund. Each time I call customer service, they tell me my refund has been requested but they cannot see the status of it, but they will be sure to escalate it. I am not sure how many times this can actually be escalated. I have requested emails and phone calls, but no one ever gets in contact with me. It's amazing how difficult it is for The Sentinel to return my money. I really cannot give them a lower rating. Do not trust this company. They do not care about its customers whatsoever. ------------------- I paid .99 for a 30 day digital subscription. A couple of days later I attempted to cancel my subscription on the website, which is impossible. I emailed customer service and requested a cancellation. I have in writing that they cancelled it and that I would not be charged further. Well, here we are a month later and they just charged me $16.99. I called customer service and the rep told me she would "request a refund" but she couldn't 100% say I would receive it. She did say that it could take up to 60 days to receive, which is ridiculous. Do not trust this newspaper. Do not sign up for a subscription. If they are going to play games, I will be doing a charge back at my bank. Bush league.

Have been attempting for days to contact to cancel subscription before rate increase in February.Have made numerous attempts everyday but received message that there are "issues" and unable to speak to anyone to cancel my account. I tried to use the chat feature, but only received response that they are unable to respond due to the "issue".It seems very convenient that I'm unable to cancel before the upcoming large rate increase....

awful organization - signed up for a one time online subscription and then cancelled it. They then charged me for months without providing any receipt and refused refund. When i called, "Adam" would not provide me any last name or contact information. Terrible customer service - DO NOT SIGN UP FOR ONLINE ANYTHING - THEY WILL CONTINUE TO CHARGE YOU WITHOUT ANY NOTICE. Seems par for the course for this awful place of business judging by the other reviews. Disappointed that i had to even give them one star just to post this

We have not had a subscription in years, yet a few times every year they try and charge us for online services. The customer support is no help and pulls a 'we can't hear you, please try and call again'

This paper is horrible now. They got rid of the delivery person and now deliver by mail. My mail does not come everyday and you have no idea if you get it or not. I was just told by The Sentinel that you are to wait up to 7 days for your paper. Why would I pay for a newspaper with old news in it? I will not be renewing.

This was once a quality newspaper-even leaned a little to the conservative right (like the quality New York Post!) and yet this newspaper and those whom run it-are leaning too liberal left, and no wonder that they are losing subscribers-like many major newspapers today---JUNE 2023 The Sentinel now only publishes three days a week---no surprise---biased liberal newspapers are losing subscribers--a forewarning to The Sentinel!!! YET I give it 3 STARS as they usually accept my letter to editor published in their half decent newspaper.

Every morning is a big surprise. Will we get the paper today or not??? Delivery is atrocious.

Overpriced, the people in charge don't know what they're doing, the Patriot News is WAY better.

So discouraged with customer service for newspaper delivery. For the past 2 billing cycles, the bank clearly shows the check for subscription payment for delivery of the Sentinel has cleared; however, when speaking with customer service (located outside the US), I'm repeatedly told that the payment was not received. No matter how many different ways I try to communicate to customer service that the payment cleared the bank and they need to update their records and explain why the past two billing cycles have showed no payment received, we are now on Day 5 of having received no newspaper. When this happened 2 billing cycles ago, we were never credited for the missing newspapers and never received the missing newspapers. There is a definite break in communication between AR and customer service. Sentinel, please get your act together. PS...Have called two times and email two times over 5 days and have received no response to any communication.

I would have given this paper 5 stars if our carrier had bothered to deliver our paper on a consistent basis. 8am was our earliest delivery, even though it was supposed to be delivered by 6. Some days delivery simply did not happen. Even calling and reporting a missed delivery didn't result in a paper being delivered. I'm sad to say we will be canceling our subscription and The Sentinel doesn't seem to care at all.

When I first moved to town I thought this newspaper would be a great way to connect with the local community; unfortunately, I now realize it is a local "National Enquirer" with news stories that are based on gossip, misquotes and misinformation ALL the time. If locals from Cumberland County want a paper with actual facts, decent writing and is worth paying for, try a different local paper. If you want a paper that chooses a target of the day to defame and print gossip, then this is the paper for you. Opinion pieces are fine in an editorial section but using opinion pieces as news is horrendous journalism.
