Chicago’s Biggest Dining Surprises of 2023 | Eater Chicago

"The pineapple bun with a chilled slab of truffle butter for Hong Kong afternoon tea was a standout, and it’s available at Matt Bakes at Gangnam Market in West Town." - Ashok Selvam

Located in Tin Sum Village, The Shack is a cozy little café with a surprisingly comfortable atmosphere despite its small size. After ordering your food and drinks on the ground floor, you can head upstairs to find a seat, then collect your order yourself when it’s ready. Two of us enjoyed the green apple salmon pizza and the Moroccan Kebab with slow-cooked chicken breast, avocado, and sour cream salad, paired with a matcha latte and lemonade soda. The food was delicious, and we spent a relaxing Sunday afternoon here in perfect comfort. Highly recommend!

After visiting Che Kung Temple, we looked for nearby places to eat and found this popular dog-themed café . It’s usually packed, so we called ahead to make sure we wouldn’t need to wait and luckily, there were still seats available. Honestly, I didn’t expect much from the food and just wanted to see the Seymour. But we were pleasantly surprised bcz everything we ordered was delicious. The grilled chicken and avocado taco was the highlight, well-seasoned chicken, generous avocado, and toasted tortilla which was tasty and healthy. The tomato pasta was flavourful and came in a generous portion at a fair price. Seymour was super cute and calm, quietly sitting near us the whole time. I’d definitely come back if there’s no wait.

I recently visited this lovely cafe and had a fantastic experience! The ambiance is cozy, and the food was delicious. The staff provided good service. To top it all off, there was a friendly dog roaming around, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. I highly recommend this spot for a relaxing meal! Can't wait to return! 🐾☕️

Surrounded by such an interesting village, I’m glad this cafe has wide-open windows to people-watch or keep cozy on a rainy day. Initially, I tried to visit this cafe near Chinese New Years, though they were closed. The mood is perfect and they have upstairs seating, so you’re not limited to on-the-go drinks or fighting for 3 chairs, however it’s still a bit cramped. I always order a mocha on my first visit to test the waters, so to speak, and we also ordered an “Ahava”, a soda water - elderflower - lime concoction with a sprig of rosemary, along with the “Pistachio cheese”. The 3 items took 15 minutes to get to us. While a bit displeased as the shop wasn’t very busy, the quality of the drinks were more or less worth the wait. The mocha was rich and even slightly smoky flavoured, while the Ahava was surprisingly complex and, while an overused buzzword, was indeed refreshing. The Pistachio Cheese was okay, however was significantly more light and creamy than I would have wanted. Even with the delay, the workers were polite and welcoming. It would be a great place to camp out with a book or laptop, if not a slight walk from the MTR for my taste. I’ll still be heading back to try the food, but I’d love to make it a weekly place to camp out.

love that cozyable cafe, kind like a hidden gem in Tai wai district. Super cute dog, named Polar bear will welcome to the guest and staff are friendly. Quite and comfortable with relaxing atmostphere surround inside. Pet friendly!

Disappointed. Ordered the Angus beef wrap (Ard $65) but it tasted so bad. 95% of the volume was lettuce and ketchup. Too sour. The cafe looks nice but it's quite crowded and noisy. Polar bear is cute tho.

They provide simple sweet and savoury food and coffee. The blueberry croffle is quite good. The blueberry jam is sweet and tangy, warm crispy croffle pairs well with cold and creamy whipped fresh cream. The americano is just fair. There is also something special that attract customers, the cute fluffy samoyed named bear bear. He runs around the 3-story store and you can take a lot of photos with him. You can also bring along your pets to the store and join bear bear. As there are limited seats, there is 90 minutes time limit.
