What a charming roadside place I have stumbled upon. Looks so quaint and awesome. I have to stop and check it out. Well, I did, and now I am sorry I did, and here's why. Ordered a lobster roll, hot. 27 bucks for a bread sangwich. If there was an ounce of lobster meat on that thang, I would be surprised. And what meat there was on it was the tiny claw stuff that has a weired texture, has no taste, and generally sucks. I feel ripped off.
Next, let's talk chowders. I ordered one Manhattan and one New England. Both bowls (not cups). The Manhattan was passable at best. Didn't really taste like chowder, and didn't see any clams. Plenty of potato in it though. As for the New England, it was poor. Watery thin. Didn't taste like chowder. Had a greyish color to it. Again, no clams in sight. Turning to the fried clam strips, salty and so so. Cannot imagine these are homemade. Fries, waffle and regular, poured out of a frozen food bag and into a deep fryer. Nothing to write home about. Chili con carne with cheese on top was average, at best. Not offensive, but not great. The unsweetened ice tea was amazing (and yes, I am being facetious). 110 bucks for all of this sub- sub-par food from a roadside stand left me feeling ripped off.
My suggestion to those who crave incredible fried clams and chowders, head down to Bigelow's in Oceanside. They will show you how it is done. And no, I am not affiliated with Bigelow's in any way.
Saddened by the above turn if events. Oh, woe is me.
