The Best Restaurants and Bars in Portland’s Hollywood Neighborhood | Eater Portland

"A 2022 addition to the neighborhood, the Shaku Bar is a labor of love from chef Matt Odama and former Trader Joe’s store managers Mark Tucker and Trent Brown. Taking over a former Wasabi Sushi location, the trio transformed the space into an inviting neighborhood bar with a food menu pulling inspiration from the Pacific Rim — think barbacoa tacos, noodle salads, and pork katsu sandwiches — and a lively cocktail menu. Shaku hosts musical acts on the patio, food pop-ups, fundraisers for causes including Planned Parenthood, and weekly trivia nights on Tuesdays." - Nathan Williams

Portland Bar Snacks Ideal for Any Night Out | Eater Portland

"Only open since May 2022, Shaku is already a neighborhood favorite. Co-owners Mark Tucker, Trent Brown, and chef Matt Odama have created a relaxed, friendly space featuring live music, a large patio, and great food and drink. The tempura kimchi, with a beautiful, surprisingly fluffy batter, is not to be missed — it comes with a side of chipotle aioli, though it’s particularly tasty on its own. The kimchi is also available vegetarian." - Alex Frane

Came for the trivia, stayed for the food! Didn’t realize my trivia spot was going to have such an amazing menu. My group all had a different version of the rice bowl and were not disappointed! The shed brings out each dish himself and is so kind. Highly recommend!

Wow. What an amazing new Portland bar! The staff were so friendly and fun. Great beer choices and they helped us pick a new beer which was awesome. Nice environment and customers. But the FOOD stole the show from an already impressive locale. We had the Edamame- the seasoning on it was great. We also ordered the chicken bites - so delicious!!! For main dishes we ordered the Eggplant Sando and the double burger. 🤤 The bar shares a space with the Petite Provence courtyard for outdoor seating so that’s incredible. It rained like hell but we were protected by the tent canopies. 10/10 would recommend coming and we will be back a lot. Really excellent food and great atmosphere. Feels like a modern old Portland.

The best bar we’ve been to in Oregon. Their service stood out the most to us. Service often is a make or break and can ruin a customers experience but they nailed every single aspect. Very attentive, knowledgable, and quick service. This place genuinely puts their heart into their food and drink flavors. They damn well know how to make a great burger and definitely can make any drink your heart desires. Some of our “regular” go to drinks they didn’t have but the best part is, they know how to care towards your needs did not say “no we don’t have that” and always came back with either something better or just as good for your liking. Atmosphere is uplifting and vibes are great because a lot of their customers you can tell looooove being regulars and it shows and we can definitely see why. We tried their “Shaku Burger”, wings, garlic friend edamame, and furikake fries! Must try if you’re ever visiting or live in Oregon. It was so good we went twice in one trip just because we enjoy it so dang much!!

This is my favorite bar in Portland. The food, service, and people have lured me into being a regular. The owners are incredibly nice and fun yo talk to. The burgers are fantastic, and the rice bowl has been a favorite of mine. There's a wide selection of cocktails, and usually an alcoholic slushie.

I stumbled upon this gem because Google said it had a five star review and let me tell you I did not disappoint. The edamame the fries, the wings truly 10 out of 10. So make sure you check out their happy hour.!!

Best food I’ve ever had at a bar that wasn’t a “white tablecloth” sort of establishment. An Asian fusion menu selection from a professional chef in the kitchen (I think). Super delicious, as were the he specialty cocktails we tried. The mezcal cocktail is next up… I wish it wasn’t so far from my house, but we will definitely be back. Well done!

Our favorite spot. By far the best hamburgers in town. You will never go back to onion rings once you try the tempura kimchi. Great people, good drinking spot. Only negative is indoor acoustics - can get pretty loud.
