13 Best Margaritas in New York City | Eater

"Adjacent to New York Distilling Company, this industrial-yet-homey (it’s Brooklyn!) bar serves a serious margarita. Marissa Mazzotta’s so-called Bebida! combines Espolón Anejo, Grand Marnier, Aperol, and lime with a spiced rim for a bitter but balanced tequila cocktail. Visit on weekends for complimentary distillery tours (2:30, 3:30, and 5:00 p.m.)." - Vox Creative

One of my favorite restaurants in the state, I don’t know why more people aren’t raving about it here. Each and every time I come here, the food is outstanding! I’ve tried almost everything and never disappointed. The food is flavorful and the drinks are well balanced! 5 stars!

Been a while since I’ve left a google review and the Shanty deserves it. My girlfriend and I had a reservation for Sunday brunch this past weekend and were blown away from everything from service to food. Our server Mike was hysterical and attentive. He kept my coffee mug consistently full and I was drinking it at an impressive pace. My friend and I started with the Brussels Sprout salad and they split it for us (an extra kind gesture). It was to die for. The pork belly and goat cheese just worked so well. We then each got the chicken and biscuits. It was unreal. The biscuits weren’t dry, The dish as a whole wasn’t overly sweet. Chicken was seasoned and fried well. We also were surprised with how well the potatoes were seasoned. All in all, we both agreed we were coming back. Thank you for starting off a cold, slushy and gross day with some warmth.

Coming from Ohio we have been on a four day binge of Lobster rolls and these were the best!! All of the dishes were tempting but the Lobster Roll was amazing. The drinks are awesome mimosa, pommosa (pomegranate), beetmosa ( beets wow), crazy good bloody Mary and the great adult chocolate milk and even better Tipsy Wilber!!

Google
I ate at the bar. The bartender was friendly, engaging and timely. The food was excellent and cooked to perfection. I will definitely make this a popular stop while traveling.

This was our first visit and we went for “brunch” with 4 people. Made reservations before arrival and showed up early and was still able to be seated. Seating is a bit small area but still very comfortable and great atmosphere. The menu was small but in my opinion had options for everyone and was unique to the area. We each ordered something different and all of us loved the food and left full and not overstuffed. The adult milkshake and the Pomosa are amazing! The staff were very friendly. I even left my prescription sunglasses behind and they held for me. We will definitely be back.

Google
What a great local restaurant using all fresh ingredients and seafood. The green curry is to die for and the jamaican egg rolls were seasoned to the max and such a great combination. We also had the gazpacho as a starter and was delicious. If you are in the area, highly recommend eating here!

Our waiter Mike was energetic and fun. He knew the specials by heart and answered all our questions and politely followed up with us. Food was great and so was the music.

Google
My first time here and I was impressed. It is a nice cozy place , that offers a rustic vibe. They have a nice outside patio , solid bar, and comfy seating. The staff were very nice and super attentive. If you like to enjoy a nice adult beverage like I do at dinner , they do a generous pour. I enjoyed just about everything, from the water glasses they used, the bread choice , strait down to the dessert. The food was great. I had the shrimp and risotto special ( not on the menu) , and she had the gnocchi. The dessert was fantastic. Guess it would be fair to say I will be back in the near future. 👍🏼👍🏼

Yelp
From start to finish, dinner at The Shanty was an absolute delight. Every dish felt and tasted like true bistro-quality--elevated, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The service was excellent: warm, attentive, and professional without being overbearing. The space itself is clean, charming, and inviting--just the right balance of casual and classy. You can tell there's care behind everything they do here. It completely exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a fresh, delicious meal in a place that just gets it right.

Yelp
Food excellent, service wonderful, atmosphere pretty We enjoyed this quaint little restaurant on a date night. Was greeted at the door. We had a reservation so our wait time was non existent. We enjoyed some drinks which were excellent. I had braised short ribs, delicious. My husband had Steak. Very nice restaurant with great food.

Yelp
The seafood is great, both the Salmon and Tuna dishes were excellent. The staff is great, most of them are "originals" from when they opened. Not many restaurants can say they have such a low turn over rate. Excellent food, excellent staff, excellent atmosphere.

Yelp
Great fish and chips and burger. The fish and chips were awesome. Just right flaky and flavorful! I recommend the Shanty!

Yelp
Chose this place for their lobster roll, which did not disappoint! It was full of tender, sweet lobster meat that was perfectly accented with lemon, celery, and a touch of dill on a toasted brioche bun. The accompanying fries seemed housemade, with the skin still on. My coworker tried the skirt steak with asparagus risotto, which he really enjoyed. The cinnamon blondie was dense and buttery, not too sweet but too rich for me to finish. The ambience is relaxed and cozy, a nice place to hang out except the hard wood bench seats at the booth tables were not very comfortable. Overall a nice meal to start off our RI visit.

Yelp
This place was a sleeper. The place is eaten up by bar space with limited tables. But the place was packed! We stopped by on a whim and we were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed out meal. The winner: the soy wings were TASTY! I would highly recommend ordering the wings!
google avatar

Yelp
Today I ordered Sweet soy Korean wings AND Korean lettuce wrap! The small plates were such excellent serving sizes for me, personally ~ the sweet soy wings were sweet and juicy, with a good crunch! They were a solid choice and I'd it a 3.5 out of 5~ the Korean lettuce wraps were delicious! They have great apple slices and the beef was savory! I like ordering interesting cocktails and I got the Tea & Peaches drink, and I can guarantee it was strong~~ worth the cost~ The waitress was kind and the food was a bit of a wait. Seating was provided in the outdoor setting because the wait was bit long for an inside table. My table was wobbly but clean and looked nice. The area is small but pleasant for the good weather season. Service was a bit slow because it's out of the way for waitresses~

Yelp
Rating: 4 I've been meaning to try this place for a while and gave it a try. The place is medium sized Korean American fusion restaurant bar with optional outdoor seating. We were sat down quickly due to open outdoor seating. We ordered sweet soy fried chicken wings, bacon and Brussels salad, and Korean beef lettuce wrap. Sweet soy chicken wing was crispy, savory and juicy. It was a bit on the sweeter side. Korean beef lettuce wrap was refreshing and flavorful. Apple slices were a nice touch. Bacon and Brussels salad was okay. I felt that dressing and goat cheese was overwhelming and could not taste the flavor of Brussel sprouts and bacon. Overall the place was good and service was decent. If I were to try again I would definitely try other dishes they offer. However I felt that food and portion did not justify their prices. Definitely on more expensive side and I know some places that offer similar dishes at better quality and prices.

Yelp
Very cozy place with delicious menu options and specially curated cocktails! We shared the crab cake latkes - which were quite crispy but we had wished for more flavoring/seasoning. However our lobster rolls were served with a generous portion of lobster meat and fries - perfect first meal at Rhode Island. Special shoutout to our server giving us such great recs around the area!

Yelp
This was my second time at The Shanty: my s/o's family was in town and I wanted them to try some good local food. It did not disappoint! They loved the fish & chips, salmon, and chicken taco app. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. We sat indoors near the fireplace, which was very nice and well lit. I will certainly be back.

Yelp
We went for a nice date night out, I had the root beer mixed drink ( was basically a whiskey sour) We shared the winter salad which was awesome! I had the flat iron steak, it was well cooked, and had great seasoning. My wife had the braised short ribs, and she really liked them! Waiter was good, informative, and readily available. A definite addition to our local favorites!

Yelp
Took my family out to the Shanty to celebrate my daughter's move to Rhode Island yesterday (6/8/25) evening. First time here. Place has a very unassuming presence off of RT-1 in south side of Warwick. Service was great. Food was even better. Pleasant surprise. I highly recommend and will be going back when visiting down there :)

Yelp
Espresso martini was on point. One was made with whiskey the other vanilla vodka but both tasted quite delish. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I went to the Shanty for the first time and it started off with an hour wait so we sat at the bar and got seated faster. The restaurant is very tight and narrow. We were freezing because we were so close to the door. We got sweet soy wings, Caesar salad, a chicken sandwich, and a big ole burger. The food was mediocre, nothing really stood out. The wings were extremely sweet - the sweetness actually over powered the wings. The hand cut fries were the best thing on the menu. I was disappointed because it was not worth an hour wait. The parking lot was also extremely small. We had to park at the laundromat and walk over.

Yelp
Went for brunch and it was awesome!! I got the eggs Benedict, eggs were perfect and the hollandaise has the perfect flavor and texture. My daughter got the hash and eggs, it was an interesting twist with beets but complimented the dish. We sat outside and the decor was simple but nice, service was good, I will be back again!

Yelp
Great yelp find. Yummy brunch and service with a smile. The Flannel hash was delicious.

Yelp
I had the best experience at the Shanty. I was on a solo trip and saw the great reviews so I had to make the drive to check it out. I'm always a fan of local farm fresh ingredients. I was greeted warmly by the host when I arrived. I was seated right away (no wait at the time but it definitely got crowded). The waiter was just as friendly. The food was fantastic. I treated myself to a bloody Mary and the lobster benedict (since I live in a landlocked state, I had to indulge in the good stuff). It was a relaxing Sunday brunch. Not once did I feel rushed. The waiter was attentive but definitely not overbearing. If I could have, I would have dined here more than once. There were plenty of other menu options that I would have loved to have tried.

Yelp
Passing through RI on our way home from a vacation on Cape Cod. My brother and I tried The Shanty based on the Yelp reviews. You will not be disappointed! Excellent food with inventive preparation. Cool vibe and ambience. Friendly staff!

Yelp
One of my favorites! The sweet soy wings, yam fries, mac n cheese are among my favorites! I also enjoy new dishes on the menu. Great drinks also! Overall a local gem!!

Yelp
What a fantastic place! Good vibe, excellent food. I had the salmon, my partner had a burger. Everything was very fresh. Staff was excellent - friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.

Yelp
The Shanty is one of our favorite places. An unassuming little gem that serves up some of the best elevated pub food around. Always Expert service and perfectly executed cocktails. We love the wings, the Brussels sprouts, the burger, and the fish and chips

Yelp
Great inviting atmosphere, friendly and helpful people, delicious food. We loved the stuffed honey squash appetizer and our TV dinner and Bibimbap entrees were great too.
google avatar

Yelp
The shanty always provides great service and delicious food. Elizabeth and Sue are fantastic on the bar! The ambiance is comforting and inviting. My wife had the salmon and I had the Bibimbap. Both were absolutely delicious and hot! Love it!

Yelp
This quaint restaurant features a vintage, one-of-kind atmosphere that evokes feel good vibes, and the modest seasonal rotational menu boasts down home cooking with high quality ingredients. The drinks are always on point too. Heather, our server who happens to be the bar manager, went out of her way to make sure everything was perfect.

Yelp
From start to finish this meal was nothing short of spectacular. The decor is perfect. Minimal, cozy, with just the right amount of light. The servers/bartenders are quick to take your drink order, but wonderfully patient while you choose your meal. We began with the Brie, which was a full wheel, covered with warm apples, served with crostinis. It was FABULOUS. my husband ordered the bibimbap, which was loaded with fresh, well cooked ingredients, served sizzling in a hot bowl. The gojujang (sp) sauce is a perfect accouterment, and also makes for a perfect dip for fries. I had the fried chicken sandwich, which was topped with fajita veggies, avocado. It was amazing. We will happily drive back up here from southern RI!

Yelp
As of the time of writing, The Shanty has a 4.5 star with 686 reviews on Yelp, so you honestly don't need to read much more. This place is poppin' and busy for a reason. We came here for a Sunday brunch. The parking lot was small and packed, and there is an adjacent lot their signage points you to if it's completely full. The menu is kind of small and I like that. Small menus reduce "analysis paralysis". The alcohol menu leans more towards wine than beer, with multiple choices for alcoholic coffees. We ordered the Lobster Roll and the Eggs Benedict ... ...with Lobster, lol. A long time ago, I read something somewhere online about how the lobster rolls are really good at the Shanty and I bookmarked this place with a note "lobster roll", and so finally we found ourselves here. Anyways, both are delicious. The lobster roll was on burger buns with some slaw and sauce. The eggs benedict: lobster works very well with the gooey egg yolk and cheese and biscuit. We felt that both portions of lobster meat were very good, and enjoyed the quality of it-- not too fishy. I also think I prefer eating lobster on a burger roll than the usual long sub rolls that they are found on. For drinks we got two of their boozy coffee cocktails. I think they are ok (3/5). The alcohol wasn't overwhelming, but it was still strong tasting. Customer service was good! All in all, a good experience!

Yelp
Great local spot for a cozy meal or drinks with friends at the bar! I enjoyed the burger, which tasted like a handmade Big Mac! The French fries were tasty as well and everyone enjoyed their meals. Service was quick and staff was friendly. Parking lot for off street parking too!

Yelp
The guru finds himself in Rhode Island for the next few days hungry as always for local fare. With a sign that says "eat local" I simply could not resist. Walking in you notice right away that the bar takes up a good half of the entire restaurant's real estate. So that leaves me questioning is this a restaurant or simply a bar that serves food like a gastropub? The feel of the place does give it that vibe of a gastropub but the menu clearly indicates it's trying to be a restaurant. Ok very well I say to myself. I order the lobster roll and a caesar salad. for the appetizer I see this item called "crab and potato latkas". I was curious and ordered that. the caesar salad was nothing special. Just a pile of lettuce and way too much cheese. If that's your thing than go for it. the lobster roll was absolutely terrible and avoid at all costs. I'm usually ok eating even a bad lobster roll. Hey it's lobster. How bad could it be? The lobster was so rubbery it was completely inedible. This is very surprising given this area is known for fresh lobster. What that chef did to that poor lobster is anyone's guess. I substituted that for the fish and chips. Their fish and chips were surprisingly good and flavorful. the fish was nice and flaky and melts in your mouth enveloped with a nice light batter. Even the fries were nicely seasoned and the cole slaw was night and light as well. Even the tater sauce to go with it was actually quite nice. A total contrast from the other dish. now for the weird item. The latkes. I was so confused by them because they are basically little bites of crab meat sandwiched between two tiny hash browns with aioli to top it. These are not latkes but after several minutes of eating them I started to really like the contrast of these different flavors. So in a weird way this kind of worked as a dish. The aioli sauce with the crab meat works nicely with the crispiness of the hash brown they're calling a latke. Servers were very nice by the way. So despite my mixed experience I will be generous and give this place 4 stars as a gastropub. This place needs to take the complicated dishes off the menu and stick with the classics like most of the menu already is. Just get the fish and chips with a nice beer and you will be very happy here. And finally to the great people of Rhode Island I want to thank you all for your warm hospitality to this weary traveler. Thank you for keeping places like this in business that clearly need some work but are trying to do the right thing.

Abby A.

Yelp
This place is phenomenal. Service is one of the best and the food *chefs kiss* If I didn't live so far away I would come here often.

Yelp
The patio has a wonderful setting with beautiful flowers and covered setting the tone for a beautiful brunch. The server was amazing and very informative and knowledgeable. The food was outstanding a perfect blend between Mexican and Americano not to overpower the pallet. Highly recommend and I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Great food, great service!! Love this place!! Had the chicken wings, which were the best I have had. Amazing Thai chicken wings!!!

Yelp
Cute little place with unique food options. The bartender Alisa was the sweetest and very personable. I had the TV dinner and my hubby had the ribeye. Both were delicious.

Yelp
We planned our road trip home around this place. We got there as soon as it opened and we seated right away. To start, I ordered the veggie Bloody Mary. It was delicious. Next up, my husband ordered the ham eggs Benedict which came which a really delicious homemade jam. I couldn't decide what to order so our waitress helped me. In the end I got the Chilaquiles. It was absolutely delicious. I loved every bite. We were extremely stuffed but saw another table order the apple cider cake so we had to try it. It was so dense, it was almost like concrete!! Incredibly delicious. Great food, great service and great portion sizes!

Yelp
Worth the stop just for the lobster roll! Fish and chips good as well - hand cut fries, the spicy chipotle soup was super salty though and tasted like excessively spicy marinara sauce.

Elizabeth V.

Yelp
Ambiance is cute, would go there again. Menu always changes but they do have staples that never change, loved my dinner & server was sweet!

Chelsea C.

Yelp
The atmosphere is cozy and inviting and was perfect for a drizzly Saturday evening. The food was surprisingly varied and all of it was delicious. They also have tons of gluten free options, which was a must for one of our people. Around the table we had the bibimbap, TV dinner, flank steak, salmon, and duck confit and burrata to start. All of it was fab. We were squeezing in dinner before a play (and accidentally cutting it close) and our waiter was accommodating and made sure we got out there in a timely fashion. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Amazing place I highly recommend it when in Portland. The food was A+, great service and ambiance!

Yelp
Myself and a few friends were in town for the Rhode Island comic con and found this place from google and yelp search. We all have to say wow this restaurant was amazing we had the sweet soy wings French onion soup dip Broccoli cheddar soup brisket gnocchi and the fish and chips. Also I recommend upgrading to the yam fries. Everything was delicious I have to say the fish was some of the freshest fish I ever had in a very long time. The service was amazing also huge shout out to Kim Maddie Taylor and Sergio thank you for you outstanding hospitality. I really wish I lived closer we all would be here a-least once a week if not more. It was a great way to end our trip from a great weekend thank you

Yelp
Love the variety of IPAs. Food is always fresh and healthy. attentive staff nice cozy atmosphere and very clean. Chef makes yummy food and great specials

Yelp
We dine at The Shanty regularly. All of the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Love the delicious food, prepared fresh, but we would like it if they offered "specials" to switch up the limited menu a bit. Try the TV dinner or Fish & Chips, or any of their brunch items. For those with mobility or back issues, please note that the restaurant is crowded inside, difficult to maneuver, and there is no soft seating (wooden bench seats and chairs). Otherwise, it's a good neighborhood spot!
google avatar

Yelp
Looking for a great restaurant with variety on the menu? You will find it at The Shanty. Everything I've tried has been delicious. Service is great and the servers are well versed on each meal. A definite go to restaurant! The parking can be challenge so go a bit early or a bit late for dinner. Reservations recommended!

Yelp
Unfortunately, with a lot of these trendy restaurants they can't keep up with the demand so they start cutting corners when it comes to quality. We tried The Shanty this week, overall not impressed. The restaurant is focused around a large bar, with booths and small high tops arranged around it, which makes it a challenge to move around. The service was fine, not over-friendly, basic greetings, drink refills, not too long of a wait for beverages/food. We ordered a Caesar Salad with chicken and the Korean Spatzle with chicken. The Caesar Salad was dressed well but the chicken was hard and dry, assuming precooked and sitting in a pan for a long period of time. The Korean Spatzle was not good, mushy tiny balls of dough, not even close to spatzle, served in an over sweet/spicy sauce. Again, the chicken in this dish was precooked and assuming sitting around waiting to be served. Not sure how the chef could endorse the dish as it was terrible. Do not recommend.

Yelp
Great brunch on the weekends. Not a huge menu, but everything is done right. I love the egg sandwich!

Lisa M.

Yelp
Food was really good, a smidge salty, but good. Got the Statler Chicken which the server mistakenly said was a half chicken with breast and thigh. It's not, it's the breast and part of the wing. But it was so juicy and flavorful I didn't mind. Husband got the fish and chips which was fresh and cooked to perfection.
google avatar

Dena L.

Yelp
We were In Warwick and looking for something in town that looked good- thank goodness we found The Shanty! Great wholesome food served by an excellent server( Karen I'm talking about you) Beet salad, Statler Chicken, Fish and Chips topped off with the Peach cake with vanilla Ice Cream. Went home happy!
google avatar

Corkie B.

Yelp
Used to go to the Shanty often so it pains me to leave this review. I will say they always have great service and the ambiance is wonderful for a date night. However the last 3-4 times I've ate there my food has been meh. I ordered a wide variety of dishes with my husband and we have had over cooked veggies and wings, steak that had grill marks that tasted really burned, veggies that were undercooked. Food that wasn't seasoned well. Every time I left I felt like it just missed the mark. Previously we really enjoyed our food and to us it seems there has been a change, like someone new was cooking.

J K.

Yelp
The food was delicious, the outdoor seating was perfect, and the service was nice and friendly. Definitely recommend next time Im in town.
