Inside Buenos Aires: Chef Gonzalo Aramburu's Favorite Spots

"I start my day early at The Shelter, a relaxed spot with an atmosphere reminiscent of an English pub where the coffee is superb and the interiors are cozy; with four locations around Buenos Aires, my favorite is the Retiro outpost nestled among art galleries and traditional buildings, and this calm morning ritual helps me prepare for visits to suppliers and markets." - Guía MICHELIN

Fantastic coffee shop! Definitely one of the most expensive coffees in Buenos Aires but the quality was great with both the cappuccino and the pain au chocolate. The interior has a very nice, cozy aesthetic as well.

Nice street café in quiet neighborhood. Sitting outside and enjoying our breakfast was a good start to the BA visit. Excellent coffee and tasteful avocado toast. Very attentive staff.

While stopping in Buenos Aires from Cordoba back to Georgia, USA, I reached out to a friend who used to live here for a coffee recommendation. This was his first choice and it did not disappoint. Sensational.

My favorite coffee in Recoletta! They have the best homemade almond milk in the area and their flat whites are to die for. The California sandwich is essentially the same as Kyoto sandwich, a bit underwhelming for the price, but the cinnamon roll was totally worth it. Overall, it’s crazy that a good coffee would cost you almost 7dollars (even San Francisco doesn’t have those prices) but it’s not them to blame.

Lovely cozy coffee shop, love the sofa seating. Good well roasted coffee - the flavor notes come through even with a Magic or Latte. Pastries also good selections and quality. Enjoyed everything about the experience ❤️.

Pretty good coffee, but not great. Especially not for the price. I know it’s specialty coffee, but I feel like it’s hard to justify asking €3,80 for a double espresso. Especially when coming from the Netherlands, that has ridiculous prices overal but where the most famous cafes/roasters in Amsterdam (one of the most expensive cities in Europe) are still cheaper than this….

Finally treat myself a real cappuccino after 10-day travel in Patagonia. Thanks to the skillful barista and high quality beans from Shelter. The banana cake and the almond croissant might not be compatible with the coffee itself, but if you like the dark mid-century vibe, you should sit on their couch and take your time to enjoy the nice coffee. Otherwise, it’s also delightful to sit outside on the quiet street on a sunny day:)
