The Shop: Pizza + Wine

This place is so good. It's used to be a Mr Motos pizza, and this place is a huge upgrade from that. There are other pizza places in Ocean Beach, but this is the best place of you want to sit down have a good salad or appetizer with pizza and a glass of wine. Everything tasted so fresh. We had a full charcuterie board, a regular and deep dish pizza, golden beet salad, and some bruschetta with burrata cheese. Everything was excellent.

Just got off a long day of work and wanted a relaxing salad and a beer. I went to The Shop Pizza and got there Chopped salad (chopped chopped baby gems, roasted chicken, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, bacon, candied pecans, goat cheese, house-made ranch.) with a beer. Even though I had this one once before (early summer when they first opened), I had to try it for the second time. This time it was even better!! They have it completely dailed in. Chef Jason working his magic behind the counter made this huge salad that can probably be easily split with a friend. I wanted to take half of it home but I ended up eating it all. Everything is hand made right in front of your eyes. So super fresh an delicious!! Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I ordered 2 chopped salads to go, and substituted both with a different cheese. The salads were made in front of me within minutes of me placing my order. The salads were both filling and delicious. Will order again. Cute place that would make a good date night.

Holy WOW! My wife and I happened upon this spot and it was an absolute blessing!!! First, service was amazing! Skylar was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable! She recommended this wine that was FAB! Caesar salad was light, fresh and delish. Bruschetta was a MUST have; all ingredients in that dish were divine. Lastly, we had the Cali deep dish and it was literally the best pizza I’ve ever had. Skylar even gave us a nice toast to celebrate our honeymoon!!! We felt at home and have leftovers to enjoy tomorrow. 10/10, do yourself a favor and stop in!

Damn good pie. Their 858 deep dish is possibly the best deep dish I’ve had. From first bite to last I was satisfied. I would frequent this place WAY more often if they could sell by the slice instead of having to buy a whole pie. Sometimes you just want a slice. I’d definitely become a more frequent customer.

The first time I had this place it was great. So was really looking forward to ordering it again. Placed an online order for a small deep dish, says it will be ready at 605pm. Arrive at the place at 611pm and I'm told it's going to be a few more min. I think perhaps it's in the oven now, no problem. After 10min of standing there I see them place a small deep dish in the oven, "that can't be mine," I think, at this point I ordered over 45min ago. 20min later, I watch that pizza come out of the oven get boxed, and handed to me. I would totally understand if the the place was just super busy with people, but there were only two tables with in house diners and it was a couple and a group of 4, both of which appeared to have been there a while. I would also empathize if staff was running around trying to catch up on togo orders or a list of online orders like my own. However the 30 min I sat there I saw them make a total of only 3 other pizzas besides mine. I would also not be as frustrated if the pizza had been as good as I had enjoyed last time, however the veggies were so raw still I might as well have just got a salad and covered it in warm tomato sauce. I really hope they figure things out before peak summer otherwise I don't believe I will be first bad review they get.

LOVE The Shop. It’s so hard to find good deep dish pizza in San Diego and they absolutely nail it. The thin crust is equally delicious. They also have awesome salads and a unique wine list. Highly recommend!!! (Tip: the deep dish is just as good, if not better, leftover! So make sure you take your extras home.)

I just got the cauliflower pizza crust with the chicken and bbq sauce, and the fancy Caesar salad which I love! It was made fresh, generous portions and delicious! Service was very professional and friendly. A bit expensive, but that's the story of eating out sadly these days!

Authentic pizza place using real mozzarella cheese instead of the shredded cheese. Real good thick pieces of meat and veggies on our large combo pizza. No one was here when we came for dinner. I thought it was a popular place based on their ratings and thought it would be crowded. This place is close to Sunset Beach. Nice decor. Friendly staff. Everything look great but Food was ok. I liked the pizza. The ceasar salad was weird to have egg in it but it had plenty of bacon bits. Meatballs was ok but it was cold in the middle. Everything seems to take long or maybe, i expected fast service since no one was here and I was hungry. Selection was decent. Prices are a little steep or I expected more. [60R,2024]

I was excited about trying this place for their deep dish pizzas. I came by after a day at the dog beach, ordered my Old Town pizza with banana peppers and sat at their outdoor table with my dog. The pizza was ok to me. Everything kept falling off of the slices and I didn't care for the crust & the way the sauce tasted. Maybe I'll try something different if I get the chance to go again.

We have been wanting to try this place for awhile.There was only one other table in the whole place when we arrived at 8:20 pm on a Thursday night, but it still took one hour to get our pizza - 9:20. Their specialty is their Deep Dish Pizzas, so we ordered the Old Town with pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, green bell pepper, fresh garlic and olives. It was all right, but the crust was not good, and wouldn't order again. Our server, Ms. Chris was a pro at avoiding eye contact for the entire 1-1/2 hours we were here; which we were hoping would just be a quick half hour pizza stop at the end of the night, On the plus side, good music and nice wine selection - we got a bottle of the Montepulciano ($13/glass or $39/bottle). Drank half and brought the rest home, glad we tried it, but do t think I'd return.

The General Manager Brett was kind enough to respond to my review, and he addressed my concerns. In fact, the next time that I ordered the Old Town Pizza, it was prepared like a traditional deep dish pizza with the toppings baked inside. Also, the homemade Ranch dressing was even more flavorful than before. This is an example of a general manager who cares and addresses the situation with his employees to make the necessary improvements to go from a 4 star pizza experience to a 5 star pizza experience... Great job, Brett!

Popped in this evening before the OB market. They have a wonderful happy hour menu and great service! Can't wait to come back.

I've been looking forward to trying this place for a long time. Finally got the chance last night. The atmosphere was very classy with simple, clean decor. Staff checked in frequently and was happy to help us pick between multiple items. The wings were seasoned in a unique way that was a pleasant surprise. They weren't the crispy fried wings you would normally expect but were more baked and meaty. The deep dish was a lot of fun. The sauce was awesome and the garlic melted right over the top. A good amount of cheese but wasn't overpowering. I was hoping for a little more meatballs in the pizza but I guess that just means they were good! Looking forward to trying more from them soon.

Tried the shop when visiting the area. The location is a bit small but luckily we were able to find a good seat for all of us. Decided to go with the Caesar salad and happy cow. The salad had a tasty dressing and lots of fresh ingredients. The happy cow had the same theme, fresh ingredients and a crispy crust. Our table also had a deep dish pizza which was phenomenal. Staff was nice, but we had to repeat our order many times to the gentleman taking our order. No big deal, but a bit excessive. Overall we had a positive experience and a nice meal. Would definitely go back to try more of the deep dish pizza!

Great food in the heart of OB. Took a trip to OB to enjoy some deep dish pizza. As a chicago guy born and bred I love me some deep dish and that can be hard to find in San Diego. The shop is my absolute favorite place for pizza and more. A small place in OB with some indoor seating and some outdoor seating. As you can imagine, parking is a nightmare. While pizza is their specialty, their menu has everything from wings and salads to desserts. I love the wings and their meatballs are amazing to start your meal. If wings and meatballs are too much protein for you the carrots are a sweet and light appetizer to kick off your dining. For the main course, their deep dish pizza is great, with a rich red sauce and corn crust. For those who don't like their pizza quite so heavy they also do a tasty crispy thin crust pizza as well. Do yourself a favor and eat at this upscale pizza joint. Your taste buds will thank you.

I had the La Playa deep dish pizza here and I enjoyed it quite a bit! We ordered the small and I found myself wishing we had gone for the bigger size since I wasn't full after my half of the pizza. But we definitely would have had leftovers with the bigger size. I like the taste of the sauce which is so important in deep dish pizza and the crust didn't get soggy. The pizza takes some time to make, which is to be expected for deep dish. It's a small restaurant, but we were able to grab a table and enjoyed our time there.

David and Taylor were the best.The pizza was awesome it was 858. The salad which was the best and goat cheese was great. The flights of wine was amazing and the wings were out of this world. Highly recommend if you don't come here when you come to OB you'll regret it. 1000 stars!!

Started off with the meatballs and a glass of red wine. Amazing pair. It was just one server, but the place is small so it didn't matter too much. a bit on the slower side because of it, but definitely well taken care of. we got the classic veggie deep dish with the ricotta and it was amazing! the crust is unlike any other pizza crust i've had and all around amazing food.

Good service and friendly staff. Food is good overall. We had the Caesar salad, wings and a regular pizza. The wings were not as tasty as anticipated. The ambiance is relaxed and inviting. It's not the first pizza option in OB but still a good one.

So glad we stoped here hungry for pizza! We got both a thin crust and a deep dish & they are both exceptional. The ingredients are quality & the pizzas crunch and chew in all the right places. As a native Detroiter,I'm partial to a great deep dish pizza and The Shop delivers the best deep dish pizza I've had in San Diego in 30 years. We demolished an order of season baked wings with an amazing homemade ranch dressing. And enjoyed the mixed chicken salad with more delicious ranch dressing. The food was up quick & the service was great. I'm stoked to live less than five minutes away and you better believe we will be back again soon. If you're coming off the beach or looking for a great spot, you found it. The Shop just entered our regular restaurant rotation!! PS - I'd post a picture but all the food's gone!

I saw the reviews and decided to try it out and was happy I did! Me and my friend wanted charcuterie and wine, and this was the perfect spot for it! They also have pizza which looked super good so I'll have to come back and try next time. We went on a Monday night and there were a few people in there. Our waitress was super nice and welcoming. Wine and food were a little pricey, a full charcuterie was $30 and a bottle was $39. I was a little disappointed because there was a sign outside for $19 carafes, but when we asked our waitress, she and the manager said they didn't know anything about that. I'm assuming because the place is so new they're still figuring everything out, but I would think they would at least honor the sign outside, but that's okay. Still an enjoyable experience overall

This place has a really nice atmosphere, the food is good, and the staff is friendly. Only cons: the service was a little slow (even though it was very empty in the restaurant when we were there) and prices are pretty high. It's good pizza though. We got the 858 deep dish pizza. The crust was great and the flavor of the sauce was good too. They use chunky sauce so it had big tomato bit inside. I do wish there was more cheese because that's what I'm used to with deep dish. The burrata bruschetta was delicious! It comes out on a big piece of soft bread with crunchy edges cut in half. I do highly recommend this one.

Based on the pizza alone, It's pretty damn good. Definitely New Haven influences. Nice thin crust. Good dough recipe. Cooked perfectly. Excellent bar pizza. The sauce is a little on the tangy side and the cheese is a little dry.

The shop just recently opened by Shelby and her husband, I totally recommend to try their specialty deep dish instead of the regular crust, especially the 858 deep dish with spinach, mushroom and a ton of ricotta cheese, the flavor was distinctive and not overpowering with the greasy cheese, even though it's there. Today is their grand opening, the first 200 people get free pizza slice with raffle ticket to win free pizza for a year, also you get to a gift card to redeem a free traditional crust for your next visit. How amazing, they got a great turn out. Also for free pizza slice, you get to pick 4 different options, now that's a variety. Thank you for having me, definitely come back for more deep dish, perfect day on the beach with pizza and a beer.

WOW For being two not so deep dish pizza people we were blown away The La playa was the deep dish dream. Mild meatballs covered in a thick authentic tomato sauce, on top of a thick pie crust *chefs kiss! The 30 minute wait was definitely worth it. We also got our veggies in by ordering the carrots, which were sautéed in honey and garlic and out of this world. We left happy/full and are definitely coming back (: thanks Skyler for the great service

A last minute decision for us to try The Shop:Pizza + Wine. The BEST deep dish pizza I've ever had. We ordered meatballs as the appetizer and they were delicious. The meat was seasoned to perfection, the sauce was perfect consistency and flavor to me. Skyler our server was very attentive and friendly. We got to watch our pizza being made in front of us. He did a great job! Now on the the deep dish. We ordered a large meat deep dish. We still had over half the pizza left. It was so filling but the taste was so amazing. Perfect amounts of sauce, cheese and meats, and their house made ranch was the icing on the cake. We don't live anywhere near a The Shop: Pizza + Wine but will definitely return next time we are in Cali. And recommend to everyone we see. The picture does not do justice.

Friendly service! I got the full charcuterie board and two flights of wine. Each flight you get to choose which wines you want. They were also heavy pours too and only $19 per flight. Would come back!

I'm so sad! As someone who has been to Chicago and tasted the best deep dish on the planet my bar is high. But the cornmeal-ish crust was not for me. The charcuterie was "fine" but didn't come with any cheese like I had seen here on yelp. Experience may vary based on in the restaurant vs takeout but then given the cost?! Sigh...in San Diego you gotta bring your A game with the food you have more competition now!

Visited November 2023. My wife likes deep dish pizza and we wanted to try out a new place and this one was well regarded, so we gave it a go. We ordered a mixed green salad and a large deep dish pizza with half/half of two of their specialty pizzas. The salad was good, but the pizza was completely mediocre. Both were incredibly bland. Service was good. Probably won't go back as I don't really care to spend $35 on flavorless pizza.

So cute!!! Great pizza and the wine was excellent!! We had the German Pinot noir and it was a balanced, great Pinot! The service was amazing. The standard pizza was perfect!

Ordered a pizza and sandwich and I was told it would be 15-20 minutes. Came back multiple times and each time they had no idea where my order was. Eventually I asked for a refund and I was told they are changing management. They took my name and number down and said I would be contacted by the new manager about a refund. Never got a refund or call.

Walked in .. before me made it through the door the girl at the front said hello dining in our take out . I replied we haven't been here before we may need to look at the menu. She then again very loudly said dining in or take out ? Whether she was his trying to be on top of things or not if felt rude with her tone unfortunately. When we sat down and asked about the wine. The waiter said he had only worked there a few months and the names on the wine were too confusing to remember. Of course we understood but maybe you should know about the wine you sell ? We got the Hawaii 5-0 pizza and which had Canadian bacon , jalapeños and onions. The onions and jalapeños were still raw and the cheese was Luke warm literally slid off of the pizza ... for 24$ . We paid and tipped but we spent 100$ for shitty pizza and almost sour tasting wine.

I have been coming to the shop since they opened, we have had some unfortunate things happen with service in the past but kept coming back because it's the best pizza in town! I was happy to see they have made changes to the staff last weekend when we took our out of town guests to dinner and again our salad and both regular crust pizzas we chose were outstanding and the staff was very nice !

We enjoyed our first visit to the Shop. Nice to have a deep dish option in OB. We didn't ask about splitting a single pizza into two different pies but our server said it was no problem when she heard us fretting about what to order. The Shop is accommodating to vegetarians but probably not a good choice for vegans until they add some vegan cheese to the menu. The wine was great and the place was quiet. A nice, less expensive alternative to Elvira. They should remove the Mr. Moto mustache door handles since that's not their shtick.

We finally have a cozy little date spot in OB with outstanding food and service! This is not the typical pizza joint you'll find in the neighborhood. The menu is fresh, fun and flirty! The wine selections are great (happy to have enjoyed both a primitivo and a vinho verde on the list!) and pair perfectly with the food. Service was excellent, warm, welcoming and knowledgeable. We have ahead both the deep dish and thin crust and love them both -- high quality toppings and sauce and the cornmeal crust is buttery and delicious! The lunch special is a great deal, too, if you want to get a salad, glass of wine, and a personal pizza to check it out.

Great Deep Dish option for OB. Probably best deep dish in SD depending on your opinion of deep dish crust. The quality of the ingredients are great and the salad and wings were nice accompaniments.

After seeing the response from the owner, we decided to give The Shop another try. No dog in the kitchen, but the containers of pizza sauce were still out on the counter at room temperature. This is simply not safe food handling. No third chance. Eat here at your own risk.

Amazing made fresh on the spot pizza. More topping choices ever! The service was great the food even better. Next time in town we will be back!

Went for a late dinner last night with my hubby after seeing a football game at PLHS. We so very much appreciate that The Shop has their doors open until 11pm! We ordered a large Old Town Deep Dish pie and swapped out the pepperoni for in-house made meatballs. Our pizza came out in a timely manner, it was hot and so delicious. The meatballs weren't greasy at all and our pie had a lot of veggies on it. Our server was excellent and very friendly and accommodating. We were highly pleased with our experience and have leftovers, too! Thank you (T & J Eckert)

Had a lovely experience here this afternoon! Caesar salad was delicious; loved the pancetta. Ordered a personal deep dish and was beyond happy with it; haven't had tasty deep dish since I was in Chicago. I really like that they offer wine flights because they have a fantastic wine menu. It's rare to find orange wine, especially in OB, definitely recommend it! The staff was super friendly and personable. Will be back again soon.

I went in on a whim today, and I was not disappointed. The service was excellent. The two women behind the counter were extremely warm and friendly. I ordered a create your own pizza with an olive oil base, ricotta, and fresh basil. It was absolutely to die for. So happy that I have leftovers. I will most certainly be returning.

My question is, when the heck did pizza become SOOOO expensive ?!?! 30$ for a small pizza with two toppings ? Yikes, so for 30$, o could live with out.

The two of us don't typically like deep dish, but they do it right! The deep dish has a quiche style/thinner crust that is crunchy all around and has a good amount of toppings on the inside, the veggies were larger and flavorful. The wines are all sourced by individuals that like to play with the more uncommon combinations and we appreciated that with our orange wine in our wine flight! Definitely recommend for great food, good service, and a modern/sleek environment

The worst service in all of San Diego! This place is a total joke! I've stayed away from this place for over a year and nothing has changed...... TERRIBLE SERVICE!!! Just came here to today and I ordered a deep dish pizza and waited almost a half an hour and the server brought me a regular crust with deep dish items covered with a thick layer of cheese. I sent it back and 25 later I got my deep dish (personal 6 inch). The worst part is that I was the only table. I guess I'll never be back to this garbage pizza place. How they're in business is beyond comprehension!!!

Stopped by again because I just couldn't resist. Came by for lunch on a Saturday ; great vibes, fun music, staff has great energy. This time I got the chopped salad and a lager. Super fresh ingredients in the salad, the dressing was perfectly dill-y. Interesting beer list as well featuring craft beers.
