"The experienced chef delivers an 'omotenashi experience' (Japanese for ‘the spirit of hospitality’) in an intimate venue. He works alone and presents dishes to all his guests at the same time, in a warm, engaging manner. The set pescatarian menu changes daily and showcases the finest Cornish ingredients in original, Japanese-inspired combinations." - Michelin Inspector

Simply THE best fish/veg restaurant I have ever eaten at. Bruce is the most passionate chef you could imagine. The Shore serves the most amazing food with a delicious wine pairing. Nothing to fault and everything to sing from the roof tops about! We live 280 miles away and have been twice in the past 4 months ...can't WAIT to come back! If you're reading this and you've never been, then make it your mission to go ... you will NOT regret it 🥰🥰🥰

Very interesting food, yet service and atmosphere not worth the price. I booked dinner and got the wine pairing. You are not told what the pairing is beforehand and you don’t get the printed card with the wine pairing unless you ask for it. It is a small room with a low ceiling, very little ventilation, and people from outside keep coming in and asking if there are any open tables. Unfortunately, during my visit, there was a couple with a small child who was very bored, expressed their need for attention loudly, and enjoyed banging metal chopsticks on the table for the duration of the whole 6-course meal. Therefore, I would not recommend this place for a romantic dinner. You could barely hear the chef’s explanations of each course while the child was talking, interrupting, and playing. In terms of food: loved it! Couple of comments: the smoked fish custard would be great with a nice slice of sourdough bread on the side; the bun served with the cod was cold, plus there was not really that much extra sauce to dip it in; I liked the red mullet with courgette, yet there is a contrast of the cold courgette cooling the warm fish, not sure I liked that contrast. In terms of service: it felt rushed - some plates were served in a hurry, also spilling sauce on the table while picking the dishes (in an hurry) and not noticing it. You are given chopsticks for sashimi and a wooden spoon and fork for everything else, and they are quite impossible to eat with. If you ask, you can get a standard knife and fork that you have to re-use during your multiple courses. It is casual dining; however, it’s also quite expensive so one should be able to use the utensils, know what they are drinking, and be able to relax without the noise of the kids’ playground.

Absolutely amazing evening! The atmosphere was perfect, super informal and private setting yet world class food! The chef presenting every dish to the room is a wonderful touch. The wine pairing was really well thought through! Highly recommended and worth the money!

If you are coming to Penzance, don’t miss out! We had a fantastic experience at Shore. Not your usual restaurant with the chef a one man band and greeting you bare footed for your meal, but what he cooks up is incredibly tasty. We are in love with the wasabi sorbet! Everything is very fresh and from local producers. The wine pairing was very nice as well. All in all a great evening, we will definitely be back!

I had dinner at The Shore Restaurant this past Thursday. It was truly an outstanding dining experience!! Beautiful restaurant - simple and clean ambience with limited seating provides a comfortable and very pleasurable experience. The owner/chef Bruce Rennie warmly comes to great every table (yes, barefoot). As for the food, everything from the freshness, the flavours, the presentation and the wine pairings were absolutely superb! The overall experience was enhanced by Bruce coming out and talking to everyone about each upcoming course. He discusses what he was trying to accomplish with each dish, the reasons for using the ingredients he chose including sustainability, where he sources the ingredients - meaning from which farm (including his own grown produce and herbs) or from which market he went to. Bruce's passion and energy for what he does is remarkable and very much enhances the dining experience. It clearly comes through in his work. I highly recommend dining at this restaurant if you're in Cornwall and I would even say it's worth taking the trip to Cornwall if not just for this dining experience alone.

An incredible dining experience. You must book ahead and there is no menu. Each day chef briuce finds what is best at the market and makes a meal out of it. There are 6 or 7 courses most of which feature the incredible local seafood. High level fine dining in a very laid back atmosphere. Highly recommended.

I expected something different and I wasn’t disappointed! This was an innovative dining experience mixing locally sourced foods with international flavours. Highly recommend the wine pairing.. the wines have been skilfully picked to go perfectly with each dish.

Yelp
Came based on many reviews and it did not disappoint. For those who have not yet done their research, this is a chef led restaurant, where the chef (I don't have his name handy) has worked at multiple Michelin starred restaurants and The Shore is a good bet to get one in the future. Interesting theme, as the only option was do you want the drink flight (which I would not recommend) with the fixed menu. I did the drink flight but I'll start with the menu. First dish was an excellent fresh oyster with wasabi and some other bits, truly delicious (probably my favorite course). Then came a raw mackerel that was surprisingly good, not at all fishy or bony, prepared perfectly. Next was local lobster in a sort of gazpacho (more of a gelatinous sauce) with fresh cherry tomatoes. Then two excellent fish courses (I think plaice and cod but do not quote me on it). I loved the first one but the sauce was a little too sweet for my wife. We both loved the second. Dessert was a strawberry gel with a whole lot more that I don't remember. Each dish was interesting, with multiple flavors. As I said, though, I would order drinks a la carte. When I have a tasting flight, part of the experience is the presentation, learning about each wine, why it pairs, etc. Here the drinks were all good (especially the first sake) but the wines were just handed to me without fanfare, told the name (which often did not register as I was told quickly), and that was it. One last thing. I exchanged emails with the chef earlier in the week and he prepared the seafood menu for my vegetarian daughter, i.e. without seafood. It mimicked as much as possible the actual menu and she thoroughly enjoyed it. You just need to make sure to discuss with the chef in advance as he normally only prepares the set menu.
