Shore

"The experienced chef delivers an 'omotenashi experience' (Japanese for ‘the spirit of hospitality’) in an intimate venue. He works alone and presents dishes to all his guests at the same time, in a warm, engaging manner. The set pescatarian menu changes daily and showcases the finest Cornish ingredients in original, Japanese-inspired combinations." - Michelin Inspector

Just go. Bruce is an ARTIST: everything we ate on the tasting menu (see below) was locally produced, passionately explained, and made to perfection by a friendly, funny, decorated expert chef. Be sure to understand going in that this is a tasting menu, made and served by a single person: expect to spend a few hours here, turn up on time, and that it's an experience rather than a "regular" restaurant. The individual portions aren't going to be mains in their own right (but there *are* seven of them - we rolled out when we were finished): the focus is on creativity and getting the best out of every ingredient (all of which were without exception high quality). Truly an amazing experience; we'll be back again!

What Bruce Rennie is doing here is truly special: a one-man band hosting a limited number of guests in a very tasteful dinner club kind of atmosphere with seafood prepared at highest level of skills with regional and seasonal produce of wonderful quality. Don’t miss it!

Dinner at The Shore is something I will think about for a long time to come. Bruce Rennie is an absolute master in the kitchen and his effervescent personality allows strangers at the table to quickly become friends over the meal. He said he wanted the evening to feel like he was hosting friends for a dinner party and he did exactly that. The meal consisted of seven courses, all seafood except for the dessert course. A rosemary posset was served that was truly a revelation. Every course was phenomenal, but Bruce's smoked tail ends with mussels and roe is a menu staple for a reason. Do not bother looking at other restaurants - go ahead and book now. And if you want to take a piece of the evening home with you, be sure to grab a copy of Bruce's cookbook. It is just as thoughtful and beautiful in composition as his meals.

Hands down the best restaurant in the area - and we've eaten at many! Bruce cooks extraordinarily delicious and creative dishes with the local fish and produce. The vibe is friendly thanks to the communal table and chatty Bruce - a world away from stuffy tasting menus. And he's a one-man band! Do not miss this! (Book in advance, you can't just walk in)

This was one of the most unique dining experiences of my life! Bruce is an incredible chef and does a fantastic job describing each course! He also does all the serving and even the clean up! Dinner table format is great for meeting new people and sharing a true meal with new friends. Definitely worth the price. We will return!

Different experience to eat, had 2 very nice dinner companions that complemented the evening. 7 courses of quality food which 5 was fish based that were all superb. The host was extremely knowledgeable and his love of food showed through out the evening .

Bruce served a lovely dinner at The Shore when we were celebrating a special occasion. He'll tell you all about how he sources the freshest ingredients from local vendors (and seemingly friends!), and comes up with unique dishes prepared in such a creative way - we especially loved the sardines, octopus, and muscle dishes! Definitely recommend!

I had dinner at The Shore Restaurant this past Thursday. It was truly an outstanding dining experience!! Beautiful restaurant - simple and clean ambience with limited seating provides a comfortable and very pleasurable experience. The owner/chef Bruce Rennie warmly comes to great every table (yes, barefoot). As for the food, everything from the freshness, the flavours, the presentation and the wine pairings were absolutely superb! The overall experience was enhanced by Bruce coming out and talking to everyone about each upcoming course. He discusses what he was trying to accomplish with each dish, the reasons for using the ingredients he chose including sustainability, where he sources the ingredients - meaning from which farm (including his own grown produce and herbs) or from which market he went to. Bruce's passion and energy for what he does is remarkable and very much enhances the dining experience. It clearly comes through in his work. I highly recommend dining at this restaurant if you're in Cornwall and I would even say it's worth taking the trip to Cornwall if not just for this dining experience alone.

Yelp
Came based on many reviews and it did not disappoint. For those who have not yet done their research, this is a chef led restaurant, where the chef (I don't have his name handy) has worked at multiple Michelin starred restaurants and The Shore is a good bet to get one in the future. Interesting theme, as the only option was do you want the drink flight (which I would not recommend) with the fixed menu. I did the drink flight but I'll start with the menu. First dish was an excellent fresh oyster with wasabi and some other bits, truly delicious (probably my favorite course). Then came a raw mackerel that was surprisingly good, not at all fishy or bony, prepared perfectly. Next was local lobster in a sort of gazpacho (more of a gelatinous sauce) with fresh cherry tomatoes. Then two excellent fish courses (I think plaice and cod but do not quote me on it). I loved the first one but the sauce was a little too sweet for my wife. We both loved the second. Dessert was a strawberry gel with a whole lot more that I don't remember. Each dish was interesting, with multiple flavors. As I said, though, I would order drinks a la carte. When I have a tasting flight, part of the experience is the presentation, learning about each wine, why it pairs, etc. Here the drinks were all good (especially the first sake) but the wines were just handed to me without fanfare, told the name (which often did not register as I was told quickly), and that was it. One last thing. I exchanged emails with the chef earlier in the week and he prepared the seafood menu for my vegetarian daughter, i.e. without seafood. It mimicked as much as possible the actual menu and she thoroughly enjoyed it. You just need to make sure to discuss with the chef in advance as he normally only prepares the set menu.
