"Dating all the way back to 1838, this Victorian pub is these days under the stewardship of siblings and Harpenden locals Matthew and Olivia. British racing green banquettes, leaded windows and a copper-topped bar give the place a comforting, traditional feel, while experienced chef Matthew is in the kitchen producing assured modern British dishes based around bold flavours. Regular steak nights make a feature of beef butchered in-house and Sunday lunch is something of an event." - Michelin Inspector

A truly exceptional dining experience. Not only the food but the service and atmosphere was perfect. The new à la carte menu is exceptional with daily specials on offer. Everything we chose was incredible. But the scallops and venison were sensational. And all finished off by their signature Snickers Bar dessert which is definitely a must. Cannot thank the team enough for a brilliant birthday lunch. Thank you to Matt, Olivia and the Silver Cup team

I loved staying at the Silver Cup, and will stay again if I go to Harpenden. Very nice and welcoming staff, BUT I have to say arriving late was a bit worrying, considering they ask you to confirm if you arrive later than 9 pm. Then it doesn’t help that they don’t respond to email for days, nor do they pick up the phone when you try to call. Nevertheless, very nice to be greeted when you finally arrive 10:30! Sadly, that’s too late for the kitchen (to be expected). Sadly, there’s also no breakfast, but they do provide some good recommendations. Room was spacious and quiet. Bed was good. And did I mention the nice and personal service! Would stay again.

Very nice. The steak for steak night looked amazing. We stuck to the bar dishes which were very good. Recommend booking in advance. Recommend. Parking is first come first served on the road outside.

The Silver Cup has an air of class. We felt welcomed with all arms as we walked in and the service was fantastic yet seemed so effortless. It had such a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. We had the Sunday roast set menu which was on a level above what we were used to. Every dish had something unique and unexpected. It goes without saying that it was all delicious. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a special or high quality dining experience.

My husband and I spent a long weekend at this lovely local pub, visiting family and it was an absolute gem. The staff were warm, attentive, and wonderfully intuitive. Striking the perfect balance of professionalism and friendliness, everyone went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and supported through what was quite an emotional weekend. The food was equally impressive, a real highlight; hearty, well-prepared dishes with a stylish twist, all very reasonably priced. Every meal felt thoughtfully put together and full of flavour. The rooms were clean, cosy, and ideal for a relaxed stay, but it was the genuine hospitality and quality of Olivia, Matthew and their whole Team that truly made the experience memorable. A fabulous place, we would return to without hesitation. Thank you again, Olivia.

We had a birthday dinner at The Silver Cup and it was fantastic. The service was 10/10 – the staff were incredibly kind and friendly. But what really made the evening special was the food. They serve the best pork dish I’ve ever had – perfectly seasoned and so tender it literally melted in my mouth. An unforgettable meal! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Silver Cup is still our best eating experience this side of the Channel. This time we introduced it to our foodie friends. They have immediately booked to go again!

When booking remember this is a pub with no doubt good food (which we didn't sample ourselves) with five bedrooms which appear to have been added as an afterthought. It's central but (in my personal opinion) not worth £95 per night for bed only. Would we return? Definitely not.|The good news is that the water is piping hot and plenty of it; there are two fan heaters which helped to circulate the warm air (the heatwave was not their fault!); and there is there is a small fridge (no freezer).|The bad news requires more space. Storing one's clothes is difficult for the one small wardrobe has a single shelf but the two desks only have one drawer between them. The pillows are very hard indeed and a request for softer ones was unsuccessful.|The bathroom is very small, has a shower only, and shelving is almost non-existent.| The shower cubicle has one corner covered only by a curtain, which is too short, so water escapes on to the floor.|There is only one bedside cabinet for the double bed, which is irritating. Try elsewhere!

Yelp
In all my years traveling to the London area, this was my first traditional English Pub experience. Great food, drink selection, and atmosphere. Can't recommend it enough. Literally the best food in town!

Yelp
I eat here regularly. The interior is more like a restaurant than a pub. It has new management and the interior has been renovated to a high standard. The food is also of a very high standard and Sunday lunch is a real treat. Wine list is limited but good value. Excellent choice of beers and cocktails. There is an outside seating area but next to a main road which can be busy. Location next to Harpenden Common is pleasant.

Yelp
We stayed here at the recommendation of a colleague. Got in late due to traffic, and too tired to venture out so hit up the pub for dinner. WOW! Serendipitous! Highly recommend the octopus salad and the burgers (insanely delicious). Great ambiance (decorated for the holidays). Stop by for a bite and a pint - you won't be dissapointed!
