The Low-Down on Mile End’s Radicelle and Its Farm-to-Table Facelift | Eater Montreal

"A month ago Pub Sir Joseph closed its doors to restructure after a shift toward more drinks than food and a café-by-day arrangement proved unsuccessful. The closure underlined the influence of critics in the city: La Presse critic Iris Gagnon-Paradis published a not-so-favourable review saying she expected more balanced dishes, better control, and a more refined visual presentation, and Desrosiers says that, while not entirely negative, the review was catastrophic for his old chef Mark Gutenkunst, who left. Desrosiers had tried to run the place as a pub and move it forward, but acknowledges that "there were too many mistakes made before," prompting a complete rethink that led to the new Radicelle project." - JP Karwacki

Sir Joseph is brilliant for gluten free dining, including fantastic Sunday roast lunches. Booking advised. Addendum; 5th October 2025. For a family celebration (11 people) on a significant birthday for my wife, there is only one choice for stress free gluten free dining, Sir Joseph Paxton. As with my earlier review, the food and service here is exceptional, and the quality is maintained visit after visit. Everyone in the birthday party commented they had a wonderful roast lunch meal. Good portions, lashings of gravy, and followed by wonderful puddings for those partaking of sweet treats. Cost wise the food is excellent value. Well done Sir Joseph Paxton, we look forward to visiting again soon.

Best roast dinner we have eaten out in ages!! Fab portion sizes and was able to mix the meats instead of choosing one!! Beautifully crispy potatoes, big yorkies and the cauliflower cheese was perfection! Great selection of meats and cooked well for our taste. Nothing to complain about. Service was top notch. Staff friendly and keen to serve. Food came out quickly with all the accompaniments. Kids roast was fantastic portion too. Will definitely be back!! Thanks guys!! Next time will stay for pudding too!! Xx

Classic privately owned pub with decent food and reasonable transparent prices. Definitely a 'local', but staff are still welcoming and helpful to all visitors. *Images correct as of 06/2025

Just had our baby shower at in the outside event space. The space its self was beautiful The food was absolutely incredible. Hand made finger sandwiches, hand made cakes. Beautifully presented. People kept going back for 4th and 5th through out the event. The staff were attentive, lovely and so friendly. Thank you so much to everyone!

Lovely little pub. Nice atmosphere, good drinks and food is nice. Garden space is good and is dog freindly with biscuits behind the bar for the fluffy friends. Pool table darts and slot machine to keep you busy. No designated disabled bays that I could see, but never had a problem finding space with enough room. Overall i would recommend

This is our new favourite place to come, whether it's just for a drink in the beer garden or for a Sunday roast. We have brought our parents here and met up with friends, it is so welcoming and the staff are extremely friendly. The food portions are generous and they welcome dogs with snacks and water bowls available for our four-legged friends. The kids also love the play frame outside!

Yelp
I live pretty close to this place so it gets pretty frequent visits. Fairly spacious and plenty of seating, especially when the weather's good and you can sit in the garden. Mostly pop in for a spot of lunch or dinner, the food is cheap and of a good standard. Plenty of drink selection and a nice relaxed atmosphere. They have a sizeable screen so it's pretty good for live sports too.
