On the Grid : The Six Restaurant

"With its rustic, prohibition-era wood interior, you immediately get the impression that you’ve made a good dining choice as you step into this gastropub on Pico Boulevard. And the food absolutely lives up to the atmosphere. Whether it’s lunch, dinner, or the popular weekend brunch you’re here for, their constantly evolving menu offers plenty to satisfy new and repeat diners. Our recommendation: every visit must include at least one order of the Truffle Mac n Cheese." - Clever Creative

On the Grid : Backhouse Sushi

"This is an all around great Sushi place, but the thing that makes it extra special is that they have not one, but TWO happy hours! Even when it’s not happy hour here though, the place is very affordable. What sets this place apart from other Sushi joints is the oysters ($1 during Happy Hour) and Yakatori, which is Japanese style grilled chicken on a skewer. It can be a bit crowded for the early happy hour, but the later one (10pm to close) crowding is not an issue." - Clever Creative

The six is always amazing! Brian helped us tonight and was overall so sweet can't wait to come back! Highly highly recommend the Pear Royale pizza ( they were super accommodating to us asking to remove the prosciutto!) Also the Purple sour patch is super good! can't wait to be back!

Google
Really good food! It's bar food but really nice bar food. The menu had a nice selection and we got this pizza with pears, balsamic vinegar and, I believe ricotta or some other sweet dessert cheese. It was delicious. We also had a grilled chicken sandwich with pesto sauce which was very good but a little greasy because it had melted cheese on the outside. The pear crumble dessert was absolutely delicious. The server was nice as well. It's not cheap but worth the money. They also have a nice outdoor patio in the rear along with plenty of parking around back. We'll definitely go back.

Google
Cool vibes and good food. Love the atmosphere here. Pretty small place, intimate lighting and nothing but the best hits of the 80s on speaker. I got the Six Burger and I thought the patty was surprisingly good. Salted perfectly and had a great Maillard. Everything else about it was fine, not awful but nothing to write home about either. The fries were a let down though. They needed to be more crispy and lacked any seasoning. But overall, I’d go back.

Google
The Six is a fun, vibrant spot in Venice for a night out with friends. The cocktails are creative and delicious—try the 'Smoke & Mirrors' for a unique twist. They also serve tasty tapas-style food, and I loved their grilled octopus. The vibe is laid-back, but it still feels upscale. I recommend it if you're looking for a trendy spot to enjoy great drinks and small bites

My server was Steve and we came for a friends birthday. Steve was really attentive despite being the only server. Our food was delicious and it was just a vibe to chill out here. We had a Peach Royal pizza, Italian Pizza and chicken and waffles. Very satisfied would come again.

Google
Was there on new years and went during the day. It was pretty much empty, but my girlfriend and I were a little skeptical at first. We ordered the bottomless mimosas and they were super strong. The food was really good too! Since there wasn’t many people there, the server gave us a free drink or two. It made our experience really enjoyable. We’ll definitely go back soon!

Google
I had a lunch meeting there. It was not busy so we found a spot on the patio easily. The food was good but did take a bit to come out considering how few patrons where there at the time but overall it was a good experience. Parking is not fun there, as others have mentioned but I was able to grab a street spot easily.

Yelp
Came here specifically for Dine LA week and I assure you will love the ambiance, friendly service and delicious 3 course meal. Brian was our server and he was very attentive, and genuinely friendly to all his customers. For $35, the first course is choice of Brussels sprouts which I highly recommend. It had bursts of tangy flavors and great way to get your greens in. The other options are cauliflower or Mac and cheese fritters. Second course is choice of brie burger and mushroom arugula pizza, both were good but the pizza was the winner, especially if you are a fungi lover. The burger came with delicious steak fries. The other option is salmon salad. Third course is vanilla ice cream bread pudding and banana cream pie. Bread pudding was the winner as it was not too sweet and great real vanilla ice cream! The banana pie is good but a bit too sweet for me. Beautiful interior and enjoyed the 2000s dance pop music in the background, thanks for making my manic Monday a fun day!!! Found free parking right up front at around 5:15pm.

Yelp
I tried THE SIX while waiting for a car repair one day. I had a lovely Caesar salad with kale with a grilled piece of salmon. One night, I went back to THE SIX (on pico). I met BRIAN, the manager, who was lovely and very nice to me. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich for my husband and the same kale Caesar salad with salmon filet I had previously enjoyed in house maybe a month or two prior, to go. I'm not sure what transpired in this restaurant between Fall and Winter, but my husband hated the sandwich and wouldn't finish it and (I should have taken photos of it) there was MORE OIL IN MY SALAD AND IN THE SEPARATE CONTAINER THAT HAD THE SALMON FILET THAN ANYWHERE I HAVE EVER SEEN ON THIS PLANET. Not oily but DROWNING IN OIL. YOU COULD TAKE A BATH IN ALL THE OIL AND STILL HAVE PLENTY LEFT OVER TO USE .. I DON'T KNOW, TO GREASE ALL YOUR SQUEEKY WHEELS?? I feel terrible sharing this but the total cost of the salad before tax is something like $25.. Plus I did tip Brian (and kitchen staff) 30% because he was so friendly. BUT THE FOOD WAS NOT FRIENDLY - not to our wallet or our STOMACHS. Take your hard earned $ and go elsewhere. When good restaurants go bad.. Do better.

Yelp
Myself and 3 friends brunched here today. We were immediately informed that there would be no waffles. I came for chicken and waffles and one of my friends and for the waffle sliders. Brian, whom I suspect to be the manager came to the rescue and was very accommodating, suggesting that I get the French toast instead. It was very good. He was as generous as possible and made us feel at home. The MAC fritters are delicious. I do wish there were more to an order. They could stand to hire another waiter, to ease the burden as one other reviewer mentioned. We sat inside and the ambiance was fine.

Yelp
Beautiful ambiance and music for our Friday date night. Mac and cheese bites were delicious. Drunken burger with truffle fries was incredible. The chicken chipotle flat bread was surprisingly fantastic!! The bread was awesome! Cocktail was so good too! Luis gave us the best service! He was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. Will definitely be back!!

Yelp
We celebrated my friends birthday with brunch here at the Six Social House, and it was a great experience. Our server Steve made it extra special with his great service and energetic energy! Highlights were the Mac and cheese fritters and the Peach Royale pizza. Would recommend!

Yelp
Great food, great service, friendly staff and atmosphere We've become regulars and increasingly meet friendly neighbors when we go And the staff is so flexible and accommodating that it's like a throwback

Yelp
I visited The Six Social House for lunch and had a great experience. There's plenty of street/metered parking available around the restaurant. The staff were very attentive and provided great customer service. The ambiance was nice and calm. They have tv's for entertainment and a full bar. I ordered the burger and fries and it was delicious. I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu. I highly recommend trying The Six Social House.

Yelp
Nothing bad to say about the six at all. Phenomenal service and manager Brian was extremely welcoming and hospitable. I got the BBT pizza which was great and Brian was nice enough to provide their banana cream pie which was absolutely amazing. Cool outdoor and area and have amazing happy hour prices as well. Heavily recommend the banana cream pie!

Yelp
We made a reservation about 30 minutes before we arrived and ate around 6:30 on a Saturday night. Ordered brisket tacos, hamburgers & brussel sprouts & everything was very tasty. Servers were kind, prices reasonable. The restaurant was cold & music louder than needed especially given how few people were there but overall it was a nice evening. If I lived nearby I could imagine coming fairly regularly but since I don't, not likely it'll make the 'go to' list when visiting LA.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious fresh food! Our server Brian was excellent and made the evening exceptional!

Yelp
Amazing service from our server Brian, great music choices too. Mimosas were delicious and food was great! We started with the buffalo cauliflower and I'm not vegan or vegetarian or anything, but I could definitely eat that regularly it was so good. I got the Six Breakfast Burrito and it was soooo good! A lot larger than I thought and very filling. Overall everything was great! Likely to come back again for bottomless mimosas!

Yelp
One of my fav places to go. My husband and I love the Butternut Squash Flatbread and the Buffalo Cauliflower. You can't go wrong with the truffle fries or onions rings either. We have had the Pear pizza a few times also which is also delicious. We've never had an issue with showing up and getting a table or spot at the bar, but if you prefer to make a reservation go for it! The restaurant is casual and has a cute outdoor patio and it's pet friendly! I can always find parking either at meters in front or behind the building.
google avatar

Yelp
A great neighborhood spot on the west side. The waiter was friendly, though the food did take a bit longer than expected. Must try the Brussels sprouts to start--they're really delicious. The fried chicken sandwich was decent, but the truffle fries were disappointing; go for the regular fries instead. The salmon was tasty but overly salty. The Impossible Burger was okay. Overall, it's a good spot for a casual dinner with indoor and outdoor seating available.
google avatar

jACK W.

Yelp
Why don't you hire more help.? We've been to Six several times.. but only having one wait person, who also cleans and buses the tables and answers the phone makes for very slow service .. Brian is consistently outstanding....food is great but you should get him more help NO MATTER THE NUMBER OF YOUR RESERVATIONS!!
google avatar

Yael F.

Yelp
The number of times I've driven by here and had no idea it existed...I'll never drive by again without thinking about how good this meal was!! I came here with some friends for dinner on a Friday night. We had a reservation just in case, but we didn't need it on this particular Friday. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive and the vibes were exactly what we were looking for. Chill, good music, sports on the tv, but also good food and good drinks. We shared the brussel sprouts, mac and cheese bites, mushroom truffle pizza, and the brie cranberry chicken sandwich. I would order everything again, but especially the bread that the chicken sandwich came on! Can't wait to come back and try more - everything on the menu looks amazing.

Naomi T.

Yelp
Great ambiance and vibe! Louise was amazing and recommended the best dishes. We loved the Mac n cheese fritters, brussels sprouts, and the pear pizza! Drinks were also awesome! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great place with affordable eats! Brussel sprouts appetizer was delicious. Also enjoyed the impossible burger (with garlic fries) and banana cream pie. Plenty of parking in the lot off of Overland and Ayres. Thanks for great service Sidney!

Yelp
This place is absolutely excellent for Happy Hour or a date night! It's a great little neighborhood meet up too. I believe most of the items here i posted were on the HH menu. The staff was so awesome, attentive and happy. They have a large outdoor seating area in back. Street parking. Great prices, chill vibe. We had a beautiful time and an insane meal and we rolled out of there from ordering too much ha. I know some moms that like to have mom's nights out here too. And big points for having my favorite banana cream dessert!

Yelp
The food is amazing!! I ordered the avocado toast (one of the best ever!) and the chicken and waffles... just perfect and a huge amount of chicken! I had so much for leftovers :) The ambiance was really nice, and chill, while we were there on a Saturday afternoon a little before 3:00pm. The music was just right and I was able to order brunch, which is what I wanted, and the mimosas tasted just right! The metered parking was easy in front of the restaurant at this hour, otherwise they have a parking lot in back (you need to pay to park). The only thing that could have been improved was having our finished dishes picked up when we were done eating the appetizer, and then when we were done eating the meal. They stayed on our table for quite some time while the bartender was talking on his phone, both behind the bar and then while sitting in the back booth. He was very nice, though, and treated us very well :) Additionally, this restaurant has multiple names so it can get confusing... The Six Chow House and the Six Social House. It shows differently on Yelp, on the menus, on the signage outside, and in the map apps when looking for directions. The bartender told us that the correct name is The Six Chow House. We'll definitely try the one closer to us in the San Fernando Valley!

Charlie L.

Yelp
Great service, atmosphere and food. We regularly go to the Six after playing golf at Rancho Park. Brian and his team always make us feel welcome and we strongly recommend that you visit Six soon.

Yelp
Wow what an amazing brunch experience today! 1) Atmosphere: Nice and chill vibes for a Sunday brunch. 2) Service: Amazing. Our waiter, Steven, took such good care of us! He was super friendly, made great recommendations, and did not let the mimosas run low. (if you show up for Sunday brunch, ask for Steven!) 3) Food: Bottomless mimosas for $24 is a great deal, especially on this side of town. Speciality drinks were good too. I enjoyed my chicken and waffles. They weren't stingy on the chicken like almost ALL the restaurants in LA and the waffle was a nice side and delicious. It was plenty of food for me...we all got to go boxes. I'll definitely be retuning here with a larger group of friends. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Service was excellent! All the staff were super nice, welcoming and friendly! Stopped in to check it out and grab a beer and a snack so got the chicken and waffles and it was tasty! Waffle was really fresh and the chicken had a delicious blend of flavor and a tiny kick to it. Both were perfectly cooked to be moist on the inside but still crispy where it needs to be on the outside! It was a super chill spot with a retro feel and they played fun chill music that kept you going! Would definitely come back!

Yelp
Food was delicious!! We had the Italian pizza and smash burger and both exceeded our expectations. The place is decorated really cutely and such a cute vibe! The server Steve was friendly, personable and overall amazing. The service was top notch! Highly recommend this place! 10/10 all around

Emiliee B.

Yelp
Brian is absolutely amazing! Came here for brunch on a busy Sunday morning...Brian was the only person on staff and he did amazing! Everything tasted great and I'm so happy we found this hidden gem and Brian.

Polly O.

Yelp
The Six is a neighborhood hang out and very amenable. They have a good list of beers and great friendly staff. It is a good place to meet friends and catch up on sports and world events at the bar. Like an old fashion neighborhood pub. The food is good.

Yelp
Brian the assistant manager is so nice and really understands CustomerService. I was in the industry for years and this guy is one of the best. I stopped in as I dog sit in the area they ran out of a dessert I wanted and Brian was soo nice and said next time you come in tell them I owe you one. Well I came in five days later and you got it he was there and remembered me. That's great customer service in my book and I am writing this below I see if I get my banana cream pie.

Lisa H.

Yelp
We just had a great dinner at The Six. Brian was so friendly and kind. The service was fast and great even on a very busy night.

Yelp
this place never disappoints! came to the six yesterday with my best friend and we had a really lovely time here! the atmosphere was very nice and the outside decor was very beautiful. our waiter was absolutely fantastic! very nice attitude and was able to accommodate all of our needs during our time at the six! the food succeeded our expectations especially since we have not been here in a long time. as an appetizer we got the Buffalo cauliflower and it was so yummy! the sauce was very nice and spicy! i also got the chicken and waffle and wow it look amazing and tasted so delicious! the waffles were so fluffy & the chicken was absolutely amazing! wow! the best chicken and waffle I've had in a looong time! presentation is 10/10. + the strawberry lemonade was so yummy and refreshing!

Yelp
We had my bridal shower during brunch at The Six today, and it was absolutely fantastic! First of all, the ambiance is very cool. While we didn't sit inside, I loved the way it looked and would definitely come back for dinner or drinks just for the vibe inside. They secured a large table at the back patio for us, as well as other tables for our games/presents/etc. The service was absolutely impeccable. We were consistently checked on by our server and someone who I am assuming was the manager. They were very attentive, all our drinks were always full, and all the staff were so so nice and accommodating. They let us stay there for 4+ hours and never rushed us out. They even gave us free dessert! Everyone loved their meals and mimosas. They thanked us profusely for hosting our party there, and were gracious hosts the whole time. We had a great time and I will 100% be back for dinner or brunch another time. Highly highly recommend!

Yelp
I don't know why my husband and I stopped eating here a few years ago; maybe we just forgot about our neighborhood joints while in search of more far-flung novelty. But we recently started going back to The Six and we are so happy we did. The food is even better than we remembered. I think the menu has changed in the last ten years, but they still make an amazing burger -- one of the best on the West Side. The beef is moist and flavorful, cooked perfectly to our specifications every time. Toppings are excellent. Sure, it's pricey, but it's big and filling enough for two people to share. I'm also obsessed with the braised short rib. It's an interesting take on steak frites, and if you're into braised meats it's a solid winner. The drinks are top-notch. I always appreciate a restaurant that makes excellent mocktails for those of us who don't drink alcohol. Most places just give you an overpriced soda, but The Six makes their mocktails with a tasty blend of fresh ingredients. Plus, they look gorgeous and you can even get them for take-out orders. My three criticisms are (1) the desserts are a little too fussy for my taste. I feel like a restaurant like this one should have more classic desserts like, say, a hot fudge sundae or a slice of chocolate cake. (2) Their website needs updating. The menus on it aren't always current. (3) I wish they'd give you paper menus instead of a QR code, which I always find annoying. It's a holdover from the pandemic that never made sense and still doesn't. But despite these nitpicky things, I adore The Six and I'm so glad we rediscovered it!

H K.

Yelp
Thanks Brian for being so welcoming and gracious to three old lady friends who hadn't seen each other in quite a while!

Frank C.

Yelp
The six social house was a great place! The atmosphere was on point that made for a perfect Sunday getaway. Steve made sure that we had everything we needed from a range of jokes, to a correction on our food! Would most definitely come back when Steve is working. Great and welcoming as soon as we walked in. The food and drink was beyond amazing, the beef brisket was to die for and the Mimosas were great as well. Perfect proportion of champagne to mixer.
google avatar

Jennifer J.

Yelp
Love this neighborhood gem! The brussel sprouts, flatbreads/pizzas, sliders, tacos, burgers, chicken & waffles, sweet potato fries, and fried pickles are the best! Don't forget a slice of banana cream pie or devils double chocolate cake! Wine Wednesdays are a great bargain and a fun neighborhood night too!
google avatar

Felix R.

Yelp
Went to this place today for a birthday date. Super empty on a Sunday afternoon but gave this place a chance. Tried out the Italian pizza while my date got the brisket tacos and it was super good. The server Steve was helpful today and even gave me complimentary fries for the small delay. Overall the food and service were awesome. Y'all should come and try out the food. No regrets!
google avatar

Steven H.

Yelp
I almost gave it to 2 Which is unfortunate because it could be a 4.5 The servers faked good smiles but they did not truly seem happy to be here I mean it's a job so I get it but I feel there could have been more intent The fried pickles were disgusting The french fries although unique small thin and crispy left something to be desired whether that was spices or some thing else The beer was delightful. And reasonably priced

Claire M.

Yelp
So I came for the food and stayed for the staff! Brian, the general manager is amazing! He is so friendly and on task on everything! I will make it a point to come back frequently just to chat with him

Sofia A.

Yelp
This place is AMAZINGGG. The Brie Cranberry Chicken Sandwich is to DIEEE for. Bryan is a GREAT server. Love this place and can't wait to come back!!

Yelp
We booked this space / restaurant for our Volunteer Appreciation Holiday Hang. We are a non profit Animal Rescue (Lange Foundation) and they were very accommodating. The food was delicious- we ordered pizzas , salads, and appetizers. Everyone was satisfied! Brian and Steve were amazing employees- friendly, fast, and attentive. Thank you for hosting our event. I recommend this space for anyone looking for a great venue and delicious food. It's also dog friendly- we had 4 alumni dogs adopted from Lange too! Thank you, The Six!

Yelp
super great service, food was good and had many sauce options to choose from!! drink was also so delicious. super cute inside, didn't see outside. prices reasonable, and easy to reserve. highly recommend

Yelp
Came here for brunch with two friends yesterday. Service was great. We made reservations and was seated promptly and all dishes that we ordered came out quickly. We also did the bottomless mimosas which is available for 90 minutes. If anything, I only wish my portion of food had been bigger. I ordered the chicken and waffles. The waffle was great since it was a standard size waffle but the chicken breast was pretty small. It more looked as if it was two chicken tenderloins that had been cut up rather than an actual chicken breast. Inside, the ambiance and decor is beautiful. I appreciated the flowers hanging from the ceiling and the bar was beautiful as well. Noise level was minimum.
google avatar

Yelp
The Six's smashed beef burger had great charbroiled flavors but the bacon jam spread truly made it memorable. Housed in a perfectly crusted brioche bun. Fries from very fresh potatoes needed just a little more time in the fryer, so the staff kindly made another batch that had great crunch. The new fries got served in a cast iron mini skillet; I really liked that. The banana cream cake was a superb surprise: delicate and not too sweet, tasted like it was made just minutes earlier. Good selection of wines by the glass at fair prices. Overall the staff during our Monday date night was very kind and friendly, and that seals a five star rating.
google avatar

Yelp
Extremely good food and service. Cocktails are great! I will definitely back. Great neighborhood spot.
google avatar

Yelp
I have been coming here since I was pregnant with my now 6 year old son. I am obsessed with the energy the staff always brings. The food is amazing. Plus it's local. We love the six!

Yelp
We dined outside in the back patio because we brought our very big dog with us. Usually restaurants spook bc my dog is very intimidating looking but they didn't bat an eye and let us choose whatever table we wanted. We settled in comfortably in a corner where we could keep my dog out of the way of wait staff and other patrons. The back patio was way more casual feeling than inside (we were dressed to take the dog on a long walk). We had the mac and cheese fritters (a must order!!) and I got the drunken burger and my husband got the chicken sandwich. They had a decent selection of beers and my husband enjoyed his gin cocktail. This is in our neighborhood so we'll be back! We were a little disappointed to hear that they weren't doing the 20% off the bill on I think it was a Tuesday? anymore but we would still come back.

Aja C.

Yelp
Service by Brian was great, and the food we delicious as well. I especially recommend the mac & cheese bites and the truffle fries. I got the short rib as my entree, was not a fan of the horseradish though! Make sure to get you a free taste of the Banana creme pie thru yelp as well
google avatar

Dyanna C.

Yelp
Great little neighborhood spot! I've been a couple times now and the servers are so friendly. Great place for brunch (the bottomless mimosas are a hit). If you come with a large group, prepare to get quite close as the back patio is a little small. The breakfast pizza is great, love how it comes with two sunny side up eggs. My one note is that the sweet potato toppings are a bit dry and unflavored. Not a good pizza to save for later. I've had the brussels sprouts side before and that's a must-get for sharing. We ordered micheladas to drink, and they accommodated us even though it wasn't on the menu/they'd run out of an ingredient that day. It was really nice of them and the miches were good! Also, it's a mixed crowd with families, young adults, dogs, and older folks as a heads up.

Yelp
Service was great and I loved my goat cheese beet arugula salad. I'll stop there. Chicken meatballs were not great and the sauce tasted like the can it came out of. Ugh. Subpar. Thai Cobb salad must've looked great on paper but the chicken was burnet and had a weird taste, like the grill hadn't been cleaned in years. Again, subpar. Service was great and Im sorry yo leave a 3 star review but that beet salad was the only thing we liked. Sadly, the makes me wonder why anything actually cooked tasted so odd. Don't want to imagine why.
google avatar

Yelp
Great service and delicious food! Came to celebrate a friend's birthday and Brian took good care of us and even sang happy bday (he has a great voice!). The Mac n cheese bites were yummy, as was the other veggies and chicken and waffles. Will be back!

Yelp
I decided to visit this place for a little girl's night out dinner and I absolutely loved the food. The atmosphere and service were great as well. I ordered the bacon pizza, buffalo cauliflower, and pear salad- everything was super delicious! My favorite was definitely the buffalo cauliflower. I'll definitely be coming back to try some more of the menu!
