Love Historic Smithville & the Smithville Inn! Great food. Beautiful atmosphere. The french onion soup here is epic!! Steak was decent and mashed potatoes were good but the broccoli was not good at all (over charred/dry). My experience was overall great but I have to say the food is significantly better when I attend an event or party here rather than just coming in for dinner.

The restaurant/inn is located in Galloway, New Jersey. They prepare American cuisine. It was originally established in 1787 and is a National Historic site. They previously were a stagecoach stop. The restaurant/inn expanded through the years and was eventually closed. In 1952 it was renovated and is currently a popular destination. We ordered fried calamari, chicken pot pie 🥧, salmon and a pork chop. The food was well-prepared and tasty. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Came here for my four year anniversary with my husband. Food was absolutely delicious and the portions were massive. Highly highly recommend the French onion soup. It was so good! Service was also wonderful. Our server, Alex was extremely polite and attentive. We will be back!

MAKE RESERVATIONS! Historic landmark restaurant with great food, drinks, and service. Located in the shopping village of Smithville so plan to spend some time walking the village before or after your meal. Weekends offen have special events and Christmas the village and lake are decorated beautifully. The restaurant also hosts wedding and special events. We booked the "Moss Mill Room" for a group of 25 for my wife's birthday and it is now a special family memory that our family cherishes.

Haven’t visited the Smithville since covid. Went back, really great meal and service. Chicken pot pie was big as a football and stuffed. Fish was seasoned perfectly and the “sprouts” as a starter hit the spot!

Went there recently for a wedding. It was a killer time, I liked the food but I didnt love it. The first night I had the filet mignon, and the sauce wasnt great at all, my wife didnt like it either. The second night I had prime rib which was a lot more enjoyable.(I know in my case its more about the wedding less about the food.) Loved the location and the atmosphere my family had a great time either way! The service was very prompt, helpful, and delighted to be there!

Rustic and quaint Old Inn that exudes colonial charm with a huge stone fireplaces.Food, Service and Atmosphere top Shelf! I should have had the signature dish Chicken Pot Pie! I will the next time I’m in the area!

Attended our annual UNICO Christmas party toady at the INN. It was so beautifully decorated for the holidays. A roaring fireplace going and snow laden trees was the view thru the large picture windows on one side. Breakfast and lunch fare with the best bread pudding and fresh coffee and teas. A definite for any special occasion.

The eyes eat first! The food presentations & taste are excellent - the staff are professionals with service - the dining atmosphere - beauty of the property & cleanliness is absolutely wonderful! Well worth a visit. MD

Beautiful restaurant and always decorated so elegantly for all seasons. We saw a wedding catered here once and it was exquisite. The service was excellent but the prefix menu for the holiday was ok. The soups were fabulous! My short rib was amazing but the saffron risotto was overwhelmingly floral and I didn't eat it. The beat root veggies were yummy. The short rib fell off the bone and was tender! Hubby and friend ordered the stuffed chicken breast. He said considering the chicken was brined, it was a bit dry and the brussel sprouts were overdone. The sauce was "gloppy" (quote from my husband) The chicken rolatini was excellent as the pasta was cooked to perfection. Specialty cocktails were fun and delish. We will be back, but maybe not for a holiday menu. Chicken pot pie is always a favorite!

Had Thanksgiving dinner here on November 27, 2025 as a party of 5. This was a walk up situation as reservations were only available for parties of 10 or more. Seating started at 12 and we arrived at 11:45am to submit our name. Quoted a 2:30 estimate to be seated which was fine as we strolled and shopped in the village. We weren't seated until 3:10pm which was way past the estimate and already long wait time. That being said.... dinner was delicious! Such a vast array of food and everything was hot, fresh and replenished often. The staff was AMAZING! They were on top of everything and were so kind and gracious. We were so appreciative that all the staff gave up being home with their families to make our day so wonderful. Manager Tony C stopped by our table when we were seated to welcome us and explain the buffet. He's a class act! We'll be back next year. I posted a couple of pics but I did not get a dinner plate picture. I was too busy diving right in.

The best for a nice holiday meal. Christmastime here is so special! A must to celebrate with family. Cozy atmosphere and very helpful staff.

The French onion soups is alway good, love the crispy onions on top; however, I don't understand drinking soup with a teaspoon. Not a good combination tiny little spoon with so much cheese, onion, bread and broth. The French dip was delicious and nothing like a crispy steak french fry to go with it. The Brussel sprout salad was okay. It needed more of the bacon and dry cherries to balance the tartness of the dressing. The Apple dessert was wonderful, light, flakey and warm with the cool vanilla ice cream on top. Service was fair at best, once we ordered we didn't see our server again till she brought the bill as other people brought the food to the table. We had a great table location facing the window and being able to see outside. It's just beautiful in smithville.

My husband and I have a tradition of staying overnight in Smithville around Christmas time every year. We decided to try Smithville Inn this year. We loved the ambiance! Beautiful colonial vibe and very cozy atmosphere. Service was warm and food and drinks were very good! Traditional American fare with generous portions. We will definitely go back!

There's just something about a nice day, outdoor shops and a nice (good) lunch. Corn Soup. Cauliflower Soup. Turkey Platter and Aioli Chicken Sandwich. Put this all together and was great. Been here many times and never disappointed.

We sat in the Tavern side - which was move my vibe. Less stuffy than the restaurant side - which had almost an hour long wait. We were seated immediately. The service was fantastic. Our waitress was great. I ordered the Pickle Burger off of the lunch specials menu. I got it medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. The fries were standard diner steak fries. My wife got the French Onion soup - which I tried and it was very good. Kids got Mac and Cheese - which was Kraft and a side. Kids's meals were $9.99. Not a total rip off for Kraft Mac and cheese and a side. Adult meals were reasonably priced. Atmosphere was great. Very chill spot.

Great Service! Delicious food and old world ambiance was enjoyed. The place is beautiful, there was a piano player in one room. I highly recommend the Smithville chicken. Everything was delicious we had Caesar salad, fresh rolls, London broil, Smithville chicken, hot pasta dish, roasted potatoes, fresh green beans and desserts. Desserts were brownies, chocolate chip cookies and caramel crumbs cake.

Service and atmosphere were great. everything was delicious. We ordered Prime Rib dinner. Delicious but unfortunately ALOT of fat! Almost half of it was fat. Disappointing.

The food is always spot on and the service is attentive but not smothering. Always decorated appropriately especially in the winter months with several roaring fireplaces.

five hour wait for thanksgiving food was meh they auto added 20% tip for a buffet style

The Thanksgiving buffet was outstanding ! We had the perfect table overlooking a lovely landscape ... and the service was top notch ! We will be back ...only food item that could have been better was the stuffing ...far too many corn kernels in it and would have preferred a more "stuffing" consistency with maybe sausage included...it simply did not have eye appeal ! But everything else ...delicious !!!

Went here last night for the first time, it was amazing! Party of 4, 2 couples. The inside is beautiful, old and rustic. Loved that they had a fireplace going and a live piano player. Since it was my first time, I had to get the famous Chicken pot pie! It did not disappoint! It is HUGE! I ate 1/3 of it (can't wait for lunch today!). My wife got a special Italian version of chicken fried steak with pasta, friend got Vitello Ala Anthony and his wife ordered the steak. Every item was done right. Nothing burnt, nothing under cooked. I would recommend this place for a nice romantic dinner. I can't wait to go again! Ps... the desserts, looked great, but we were so full. We were unable to even look at the menu.

The atmosphere is great, and the food was very good. Really has a nice upscale feel to the place, the servers were amazing.

Went here with a group of people. Ordered the steak tips medium rare. They came well done and we're not even edible. Mention it to the waitress and she just said oh I'm sorry. Proceeded to charge me full price for a meal I didn't eat. Management called the next day and said they were going to send me a gift card and apologize for me not being happy with my dinner. Four weeks later no gift card. Don't go here.

Reviews look great so maybe we hit it at an off night. In summary ordered prime rib that was mushy like it was previously frozen with no seasoning, baked potato literally not even 1 1/2" wide, more dressing is served (in plastic) then greens with the dinner salad, 6 oz lobster tail add on was more like 2oz after overcooking, wasabi tuna used powder not a drop or real wasabi in the kitchen when asked, mixed vegetables very dry like they sat in a steam table in a casino buffet all day and shrimp special was rubbery, again over cooked and dry. Service was great and we weren't expecting an epicurean delight being a tourist restaurant but at $65pp for poorly executed simple meat and potatoes dishes a very disappointing experience for the buck for us. Skipped dessert for the candy shop across the street. Should remove the Chaine des Rotisseurs plague at host station. Anyone that knows the designation knows you didn't come close. Just our experience and thoughts.

One of the best pork chops I've ever had. Flavors worked so well together. Romantic atmosphere and good service, can't wait to go back.

My wife and I celebrated our 35th anniverary on Sat. Oct. 25th and our son joined us the food we excellent. We will be back!

Amazing services from an amazing staff, the food is always beyond my expectations and the deals are HOT!! They also have a new pumpking martini in season right now, try it out!

Celebrating our 32nd anniversary at the Smithville Inn made it extra special for us! Everything was perfect from the staff to the excellent food. From the martinis at the bar to the filet mignon and lamb chops for dinner we were happy! They even gave us glasses of champagne to celebrate. So sweet! If you haven't been, you must try it. We will be back soon for my birthday!!

One of our favorite restaurants of all time been going there since I was a little girl. Just had a nice lunch with good friends to start the weekend celebration for their birthdays. Food amazing as always, server great , Atmosphere very cozy all of us enjoyed what we got. See ya soon and don't forget to stop by the bar and say hello to Steph and have a martini. Returned to Smithville inn for the first time in 35 years. Got traditional French onion soup and crabcake sandwich that were even better than I remember. Can't go to Smithville without a visit to the candle shop and the Christmas shops. Brought back so many wonderful memories. Michelle was our server and she provided excellent service. The French onion soup is a must!!!!!

Awesome place. I highly recommend it. I ordered the stuffed pork chop. It was heavenly. The chop was si large that I couldn't finish it. I had for lunch the next day - double the pleasure.

Great Birthday lunch with MDW, and No1 son, I had one of my favorites at this iconic restaurant, one of their specialties, chicken pot pie, if you like chic-in-the-pie you'll love this one; big chunks of tender chicken, savory vegetables with a nice tender, flaky crust, can you tell I like it... MDW ordered the same, and No1 son got the crabcake sandwich. It was a enjoyable lunch, and desert came later at another location.

We were on our way to Atlantic City and decided to call and make a reservation, lucky for us they fit us in. I haven't been here since I was a child, and was looking forward to eating here. They put us in a room with windows overlooking the lake. It was such a pleasant atmosphere. I listened to our waitress, Keira and had the pork chops which had peaches, peach glaze, candied pecans, with mashed Yukon potatoes and grilled asparagus. It was cooked perfectly and delicious! Hubby had the seafood Primavera, which he said was the best he ever had. To finish up we both had an espresso martini. They made it with Kahula which is just the way I prefer it. The service was timely and the staff couldn't be friendlier!

Food and service was excellent!! Haven't been there in a while... so glad we came back!! Fran and Kim are bringing back the excellent experience of dining at the Inn!! Our server Nadia was wonderful!!

Our luncheon in this quaint and cozy inn was very good. Unfortunately no one ever lit the fireplace , so we were disappointed that was amiss. Our service was good- attentive but not overbearing. Food was good: French onion soup, fish tacos and prime rib sandwich. Prices were reasonable.

My best friend and I recently came specifically to eat the famous Chicken Pot Pie. We have been coming for this since we were small children, first with our parents, then as single women, then with my husband and now again in our 60s. The service was excellent from beginning to end. I will say though , I saw no bread on any table and we weren't offered any. I asked our very sweet waitress, "when did Smithville stop serving the warm loaf of bread?" Her answer was,"Would you like a roll?" We only got a roll because we asked. We decided to share a chicken pot pie as we remember how large it was and eating leftovers for a couple of days. The beautiful looking pot pie was placed on the table and I cut out a quarter for each of us. Very little sauce oozed out and it wasn't very full of veggies or chicken. I decided to flip over the balance of the very thick but delicious tasting crust. We were shocked at what we saw. Inside were 3 meatball sized dough balls placed perfectly apart from each other as the ingredients oozed out from around them. No, these were not dumplings inside. I know, because I tried to taste these very dense dough balls. I could tell these were just flour and water reminding me of what we used to make paper mache paste from. I understand the price for ingredients has risen. I was surprised the price had not increased and thought maybe that was why no loaf of bread. I would have preferred a smaller one person pie but made like we used to remember, full of chicken, vegetables and sauce rather than a barely filled pie of just thick crust and inedible dough balls. We both left very sad and disappointed from a restaurant that had been a lifelong favorite. No, we will never return.

Entire Smithville Inn banquet team did an excellent job before and during 60th anniversary lunch for 20 people. Food very good and terrific service. Enjoyed ambiance in private Moss Mills dining room.

2 years ago I left a bad review for this place due to several issues. I need to post a good one over recent experience. The food was perfect. The service was excellent. In particular, our waiter Ryan, was excellent, as were the assistants. Total 180 from previous time. It was father's day, a summer holiday, and the prior time was late November, but it felt like just a renewed experience altogether. Maybe new mgmt? Stuffed pork chop, pot pie, crab sandwich, all loved by my group. And ambience has always been great.

I wish I could give this spot a 3.5 rating and you'll see why shortly...... Starting with dining: * Short-rib pasta: Awesome dish. The short rib almost tasted as if there were truffles included in the dish! Great flavor profile, as the short rib is very tender. The pasta is very fresh and tastes homemade. Bridal shower: I held my bridal shower here and didn't have the best experience. Prior to my bridal shower starting and as guests were arriving, the owner came in, made himself a plate from the brunch buffet, and left. It was very tasteless and tacky. Parking: There's a big lot across the street from the Inn that has parking. If you prefer not to park in the lot, valet is available as well. The rest: Drink at their bar, dine in, or hold an event. There are lots of neighboring shops near by that are great! Walk around, feed the ducks, check out the water, and take a ride on the carousel. Smithville is great for families.

Fantastic food Prime rib sandwich is solid Any place that knows how to properly fry a steak fry (dark golden brown, light salt) tells you they take the time to make the most basic thing right. Nice dining area, reminded me of the ski lodge from White Christmas Would eat here again happily

An absolutely lovely birthday experience celebrating our good sister friend Herlyn! We enjoyed tasty beverages, delicious calamari & fried red tomatoes as our appetizers! Our lunches were just as amazing which included soup, Filet Medallion Sandwich, Crab Cake Sandwich sandwiches and steak fries! Herlyn enjoyed a complementary birthday slice, nice touch to end a great day!

Ate here for lunch today. Took awhile to get our food, probably because of what we ordered. The Filet Thermidore which my wife said was awesome!! The lobster was very good and the filet was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The Sherry sauce was outstanding. I ordered the Turkey platter and it was good. Not drenched in gravy. The turkey platter could have been a touch warmer. It wasn't cold but I like my food piping hot. The crackers are handmade. Fantastic!! The service is without a doubt the best anywhere. Your water will never get more than half empty before they are on it and filling it back up. Well worth the trip.

A charming spot in Historic Smithville and, according to the historic blurb in the menu, the anchor of the area's revitalization. I had a perfectly decent Cuban sandwich, served by friendly staff. Between that and the wrap I also tried, I'd put the food at the level of "serviceable diner fare." Not a bad thing at all - just very unfussy. The ambiance is lovely and I can certainly understand why this place hosts plenty of weddings.

What a beautiful restaurant. Staff and service were excellent. View was pretty. Food was phenomenal. We started with the maple bacon strips, cheesesteak egg rolls and ricotta gnocchi. All were delicious. Not a piece left on the table. The chicken pot pie (which I forgot to take pictures of) was huge. Half our table (5) of 9 ordered it. Nice and creamy and packed with chicken and dumplings. Highly recommend. Wasabi Tuna was perfect. Excellent taste and very fresh. Strip steak was cooked perfectly. Chicken Milanese was delicious and a large portion. This is a great place and loved it. Already made reservations again.

Best chicken pot pie in New Jersey! The food portions are huge. We took home half of the chicken pot pie and braised short rib dishes. The staff are very warm and friendly. Smithville Inn is a colonial historic place. It was decorated beautifully for Valentine's Day

Delightful restaurant / tavern / lake/ shops. Have been visiting every year since the 1970's. From Pittsburgh area until moving to NJ in 2020. So I have seen all these years of changes; development and expansion.

Though our initial (young girl) concierge was rude, the food and service was very good. If you order the onion soup, don't expect the mile high pile of onions on top, what we received was just a few. The view of the back yard fountain and momma with baby ducks made it quite enjoyable.

Very bad filet mignon. Tasted like chemicals and freezer-burn. However, the service and the ambiance of the restaurant was very nice and calm. Despite the sub-par filet, I would definitely come back in the future.

Wonderful atmosphere for an anniversary dinner. Staff was super accommodating and efficient and every aspect of the meal was delicious. Champagne was gifted to us immediately after being seated and every staff member that we encountered wished us a happy anniversary.

Yesterday was our 6th Anniversary and what better way to celebrate it then to have a fantastic dinner where we got married at! We had the steak medallions and pork chop dinner followed by cheesecake and everything was amazing. The owner Tony came to our table to visit us, asking how we been and even remembered us back from when we had our wedding there 6 years ago! Matt the waiter was also extremely helpful and made the experience just as amazing. A yearly tradition we plan to keep going for as long as we can.

Ambiance is great though on a colder early Nov night the fireplace was not on. I was talked into the pork chop by the sever which I never order. It was ok enough. Def big enough to take home. Others had the French onion soup but the onion straws on top were not very hot as if it was sitting around. Prices are expensive here. Next time would like to go for the chicken pot pie like I was planning on getting. The Thai salmon was also big enough to take home.

This was my first visiting years. Go for the ambiance and service. The food was very disappointing. French onion soup was thin tasting. The signature chicken pot pie was too thick, had a crust that tasted gummy and almost tasteless chicken. Leaving half the meal says volumes.

I had a Friday lunch here to catch up with a girlfriend who lives out of state. We hadn't seen each other in 9 years. Kelly was our server and was excellent. My friend had Virgin Marys. I had a Chardonnay then tried the Lavender Martini. The dining room is as comfortable and cozy as I remembered. I have never sat anywhere other than closer to the big windows. We were in the top floor farther away but still had a view. My friend had the filet. She loved it and said it was very tender. I ordered the Heirloom Tomato Salad that was topped with frizzled onions, quality chunks of bleu cheese, and a sherry vinaigrette. For my main I had the Cauliflower Steak. My food was downright delicious. I was stoked to eat the rest of my main for dinner that night. Delectable. We had a fantastic experience.
