The Socialist, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

"Why book? The Socialist is to Copenhagen what Copenhagen is to the rest of Europe: a modern oasis of design, beauty, and warm hospitality that can only come from people ranked amongst the world’s happiest. Set the scene With its perfect location in the heart of the city, The Socialist offers guests dreamy, modern designs and a culinary program that delights. Drawing urban artists and creatives, you’ll struggle between wanting to relax in your chic hotel room, having a nibble on the rooftop terrace, or sipping a cocktail at the scene-y hotel bar. The rooms There are 31 thoughtfully designed rooms and suites featuring pillow-top queen or king beds, organic toiletries from local producer Munkholm, marble bathrooms, and complimentary WiFi. The muted color palette of velvety grays, pink creams, and earthy browns are perfectly dispersed throughout the spaces to give rooms a calming and peaceful vibe. My room also included a delightful soaking tub that was the perfect antidote to walking around the city for hours every day. Room tip: If you’re looking to spread out a bit and snag a little outdoor space, book one of the suites featuring a separate living room area and sitting balcony perfect for sipping a glass of wine before heading to dinner. Food and drink Even if you don’t stay at The Socialist, make a reservation at Bobo Food Studio and plan to dedicate an evening drinking and eating your way through an incredible dining experience. Start with cocktails at the impressive art installation also known as the bar: A beautiful focal point of the property, its sleek, industrial design is backlit by a towering shelf of liquor, and the entire space feels dwarfed by massive branches jutting out in every direction above your head. From your seat at the bar, sneak generous peeks into the open kitchen as you decide what to order. My advice: Let the bar chef, Asgeir Björnsson, guide you. A legendary bartender from Iceland with history in New York and London, his experimental approach to cocktails will take your taste buds on a journey like no drink has before. Asgeir’s primal mastery of his work is respectable, yet, the man behind the craft—often in a relaxed, patterned shirt and rocking a mullet that can truly only be described as stylish—makes the experience even better. Be sure to take your time at the bar to have more than one cocktail and take in the unique flavors and presentation. Save room for an equally majestic culinary journey by treating yourself to the team’s Food Experience tasting menu: It includes nine modern Danish dishes tailored by chef Ásgeir Sonur Jóns (yes, same first name as the bar chef) where you’ll drool over grilled octopus served with corn purée and grilled peas, grilled scallops with brown butter, and homemade coconut ice cream topped with caviar. If meat isn’t your thing, full vegetarian and vegan versions of the tasting menu are also available. But whatever version you order, chef Jóns' passion and skill will ensure you leave having had one of the best meals of your life. The neighborhood/area You can’t beat the location of the property, and it serves as the perfect jumping off point for all your Copenhagen adventures. You’re only a 10-minute walk to Nyhavn, the postcard canal view featuring brightly colored 17th- and early 18th-century townhouses, a 16-minute walk to Designmuseum Denmark, the must-see museum capturing Denmark’s rich and influential design legacy, and a 13-minute walk to Tivoli Gardens, an amusement park and playground of wonder. Looking to explore even further? No problem as the city’s efficient metro system is just a two minute stroll away. The service The service is effortlessly cool and attentive, without any stuffy pompousness. The staff feel like the cool kid in school—but not the cocky jock, but the one that says hi to everyone. General Manager Wictor Lidholm's smile and warmth are contagious; Wictor greeted us in person at both check-in and check-out, perfect bookends to our stay that really delivered on the essence of hospitality without suffocating. For families While the friendly staff and spacious suites are certainly hospitable to families, the hotel’s vibrant intersection of artists and urban creatives make it better suited for adults. Anything left to mention? Four-legged friends are welcome. If it makes you anxious to leave your pet behind—or you just love their company—The Socialist is happy to accommodate. Each guest room is allowed one pet (with a maximum restriction of 45 pounds)." - Lara Kramer

Hotel Herman K

"What's the story behind this hotel?Set in a circa-1963 transformer station near bustling Kongens Nytorv Square, the 31-room Hotel Herman K, part of the Brøchner Hotels group, is a luxe property with understated industrial vibes. Beyond a façade of dark bronze slats is a lobby dominated by a 3D-printed installation by artist Pio Diaz. What are the rooms like?Whether it’s the Tiny category or a penthouse suite with a rooftop terrace, Hotel Herman K’s rooms, tucked behind black curtains, are beautiful examples of contrast. Here, raw concrete and iron play off plush carpeting, white marble—bathrooms are discreetly tucked into marble boxes—and custom beds. Any little goodies in those box-like bathrooms?Brøchner Hotels' signature amenities, including British REN Clean Skincare products and Fitness Kits (complete with a yoga mat). How are the food options on the hotel grounds? In addition to the organic breakfast buffet, guests can dine at Roxie, a restaurant from the team behind the Michelin-starred Kadeau, and savor dishes like Danish lobster with ginger beurre blanc. In the bar, enjoy cocktails under a nearly 40-foot-high ceiling. There's also a roof terrace, Brøchner Hotels' brand-standard Wine Hour, and a complimentary Night Cap, served 10–11 pm nightly. Anything else stick with you about your stay?Guests can use their mobile phones to unlock room doors and stream media content. So if you had to wrap it up in a sentence, what would be the sell for this hotel?Located in the center of Copenhagen, Hotel Herman K is a small, sophisticated hub of design and gastronomy with a distinctive heritage." - Alia Akkam

Truly Danish minimalism but with exceptional design, although the rooms did have awesome speakers. Was concerned about noise but that wasn't an issue at all. Impossible to beat the location. Much more authentic, truly Copenhagen experience than the Marriott on the water

I recently stayed here with my boyfriend during our visit to Copenhagen and the location was excellent. It was about a 6-minute walk to the nearest metro station and very close to most of the sights in the city centre. The staff were very friendly and helpful during our stay. They were able to get a room ready for us during check in even though we arrived well before check in time which was much appreciated. The decor and layout was stunning. Very modern design. I loved the Dyson hairdryer in the room as well as the custom amenities (shampoo, soap etc). The bed was very comfortable. We didn't have much of a view due to the outdoor metal scaffolding but it wasn't a big deal. All in all, I highly recommend this hotel and would love to stay here again.

The concept of the institution is very interesting. Refined interior and flawless artistic filling. At the entrance you are greeted by a 3D model of tree branches. Each hall is decorated with original paintings and photos, each of which has its own artistic and social value. The hotel is small and cozy. The rooms are not small at all, by Copenhagen standards. And what is generally exceptional for Denmark, the toilet and shower are separated. Special attention was paid to soundproofing the rooms. The excellent location in the city center provides walking distance to all must see places. The bar and restaurant, where there are drinks and dishes for every taste, deserve special attention. The restaurant premises occupy 2 floors, there is also a picturesque terrace. The friendly staff only reinforces the pleasant impression of this establishment.

This hotel is not up to par with other Tribute Portfolio hotels from Marriott. The hotel needs work to meet the standards. Pros - good location, bartenders are super nice. Cons - 1. Rooms and filthy. They used high pile, light grey carpets and they’re totally stained. Its a party hotel, this was a bad design choice. I wouldn’t walk barefoot in my room. 2. LOUD - this is a party hotel and no room is immune to the noise. I was given a room that has a balcony over the bar (its weird) and i asked if this would be a loud room knowing it was the weekend. The ‘green’ front desk person assured me it was quiet and wouldn’t be a problem. This was completely false. 3. Their front desk staff aside from 1 person are extremely junior and need training. I wouldn’t recommend this place unless it improves the above.

My wife and I stayed here a few nights recently. We had a small issue with an upgrade, but the staff resolved it very quickly! They were kind enough also to go out of their with kindness even after the issue was resolved. The breakfast was quite good, the rooms elegant and modern. We really appreciated all the staff being so kind. The location of the hotel is perfect for local sites within walkable distance and to public transportation. Thank you!

Absolutely amazing, friendly, helpful, and charming staff that truly made my business trip to Copenhagen wonderful. The airline lost my luggage and the front desk people helped me find a nice suit and continuously check on me throughout my stay. The hotel aesthetic is simple and elegant— minimally decorated but with dramatic lighting throughout the property. The restaurant/bar had amazing food but again — the highlight were the staff. Hospitality at this hotel was like air as it was all around you. My room was typical for upscale European standards. I had a room on the 5th floor that had gabled windows making it difficult to see the street and experience any view of the city. That being said, the room was perfectly clean and used the space efficiency. The only issue I had is that the incredibly opulent shower that was a gigantic covered entirely in marble had almost no water pressure and the water was not warm enough. This may be just a subjective expectation compared to the skin burning high pressure showers I’m used to in the USA. Overall, my experience was incredible and I will return to The Socialist Hotel in Copenhagen upon my next trip to Denmark.

Excellent hotel in heart of Copenhagen, close to Kongens Nytorv, shopping malls, restaurants, and sightseeing spots. The staff was very attentive and friendly, and resolved all my issues promptly. The room is very modern and chic, has most of amenities and even has a Bose surround sound system. There is bottle service to the room - still or sparkling - without any extra charge. Restaurant is quite polished and fancy as well. I stayed in a Superior room and did not find it too small, but a desk would have been great. However the included breakfast does not include a buffet but only 1 dish with coffee/tea/juice. Also would appreciate if could get slippers in the room. The way to call reception is slightly confusing since there is no phone but an app/nfc system. Would stay again for sure.

My husband and I traveled in September 2023, stayed two nights as Platinum members. We had used two of our Suite Night Awards and was notified 4 days prior of our upgrade so we were initially excited for stay - the suite was supposed to have an outdoor terrace which we we're really looking forward to. With prices of hotels in general in Copenhagen, we had booked a regular room for around $350/night, and after reading the bad reviews we were thankful for the suite upgrade hoping it would make it worth the money (many of the bad reviews were regarding room size, so we thought we dodged a bullet) We arrive a little after 2pm, after walking from the metro station. We were told our room was not available because they had platinum members who had a late check-out; no problem - we stored our luggage and walked around a bit. We came back at 4pm and our room was ready (luggage was not brought to the room which would have been a nice touch) - when we entered our "suite" it was not the suite we had been promised, it was a weird two floor loft, no balcony/outdoor space. Small bathroom without tub - it looked weirdly out of the 70s with wall to wall carpet. We quickly learned that the walls to the outside are not sound proof, even on the 5th floor - voices, garbage, bottles, we could hear everything. When you walk in, reception isn't visible - only a sterile looking concrete bar in the middle of the room. No one greeted us. I had to ask the "bartender?" where reception was - she pointed to a small desk behind a huge pillar, not visible when walking through the door. Breakfast that was included in our room rate was just okay. Both mornings when we went down, service was extremely poor and workers seemed extremely disorganized - the first morning we finished our meal before our coffees came. The wait time was absurd. The second morning I asked my husband to go down and order our breakfast while I walked ten minutes to Anderson & Maillard to pick up pastries and by the time I got back our table was still empty. We had a late flight (5pm) our last day, so we asked for late check-out and we're told no... that they needed time to clean the room. I was sort of taken aback by this because we, ourselves, couldn't check-in at 2pm given a late check-out when we first arrived. Plus, it's supposed to be guaranteed by Tribute Portfolio hotels for status members but apparently they don't honor that. We asked for an extra half hour, so we had to be out by 12:30pm ET. The bathroom shower didn't drain and is "curbless" so water flooded the entire bathroom every time; we couldn't take back to back showers, instead having to wait until the water went down beforehand. Service was absolutely terrible for the amount of money they charge. It felt like they (the hotel and the workers) want to be this very edgy, hip place but fail to remedy the basics of customer service and the hospitality industry. We were glad to check-out and move onto our next destination, which says a lot. I'm writing this review 12 days after our arrival and on the backend, we have yet to receive our points (or bonus points) for our stay, and moreover, we used our Marriott Bonvoy AMEX for the charges and the way they charge your card it isn't processed as a Marriott Hotel so you don't earn the 6x points/dollar like you're supposed to - I've had to contact AMEX to help resolve this. If you're like me and enjoy earning points, it's been nothing but a nightmare and extra legwork - just don't stay here. Pros: - Location, truly in the heart of everything and the only reason for the exra star. - Plugs in and usb next to bed - Dyson hairdryer (grasping at straws to be nice) Cons: - Poor customer service - Food and drink are sub-par - Not worth the $$ value - Underwhelming rooms/decor/aesthetic - Lacking amenities - no conditioner in shower, etc (especially for a suite) - Untrained staff

Yelp
This Brand new Scandinavian-chic hotel is located in a former power station. We were lucky to book a room for a decent price before the hotel opened and even luckier to stay in a room that has barely been slept in before (if at all). As is pretty much par for the course in this part of the world, the room (a double standard) was small, but comfortable and almost zen in its cleanliness. We had everything we needed located near the bed, including all charge stations for phones that have USB ports and various ways to hook up ones' devices to the television. Also included in this room were Ren bath products, soft towels, a hair dryer, and a tea kettle with a small selection of teas/coffees. In the lobby (and also where you check in) is a bar lounge and an award-winning restaurant. The breakfast looked healthy and delicious, but we opted to explore places to eat nearby. Best of all, they offer a happy hour and night cap, free to guests. Plus, their staff are exceedingly courteous and helpful. The only issue I have is the lack of a "do not disturb" sign to put on the doorknob and the minimalist decor, which though pretty, is not practical when you are trying to find space to stash your stuff.

Yelp
We stayed in this recently opened small boutique hotel on 2 nights during a heat wave. We really appreciated the a.c. which is unusual in CPH. Our small room, one of the smallest, was sleek yet comfortable modern Danish design. Well-designed, great mattress, good charging features so size was not really a problem. Excellent rainhead shower. Hotel staff were engaging, helpful, friendly and professional to the max. The breakfast was the best we ever had in a hotel. Fresh organic fruits, veggies, smoothies, cooked items, etc. etc. Wide selection. The co-located restaurant Roxie offers top notch new Nordic food. We had a tasting menu with no meat. Wonderful service. Great location. Overall excellent stay!!!
