Every seat in the house is a good view . It was my first time there for the urban league awards and I plan to come back.

Charles M.

Google
Went there for a separate performance so pure logistics I can't review but as a place? Very nice. Good seats, relatively responsive bar tending staff. Good venue for the space. If you go to the opera house in down town? This seats are scores better than those.

Melitta K.

Google
The Sofia has some fantastic Event Spaces available for rent! As a long time patron, I just held an event in Gallery A for the first time, and I loved the experience! The room has great natural light and a patio deck attached as well! Tables, chairs, a sound system, and bar options are all available for rent, and more! The staff is beyond helpful with planning and set up. Check out their website for all the available rentable spaces. The price was super reasonable, especially for the great location! I definitely recommend using the Sofia for your next event.

Google
Great theater and good parking at Sutter garage and on the street. The theater has quite a slope which means no matter how tall the person in front of you is, you still have an an unobstructed view. But it does mean your vantage point is rather high up. So lower down seats are still preferable.

Google
My new favorite local theater! We are subscribers and love every production over the past year and excited about the 2025 season! Classy, affordable, great acting, great seats, full bar (with real glasses) special events and freebies to subscribers. There is a family series and music venues as well. Two restaurants next door, make it a wonderful day or evening experience you don't want to miss! Fever event of Flamenco music and dancing! Electrifying, stunning, FABULOUS! Perfect Father's Day Gift!

B Street Theatre at The Sofia is truly one of Sacramento’s hidden gems! From the moment you walk in, the energy, creativity, and professionalism of this place shine through. The staff is welcoming, the seating is comfortable, and every show feels personal — you can tell the performers love what they do. I recently attended a performance and was blown away by the talent, storytelling, and stage design. The production quality rivals big-city theaters, yet it still feels intimate and connected. Whether it’s comedy, drama, or live music, B Street Theatre delivers world-class entertainment right here in Midtown Sacramento. If you’re searching for “things to do in Sacramento,” “live theater near me,” or “Sacramento performing arts,” this is the spot. They feature local and national talent, offer family-friendly shows, and even host community events. The Sofia isn’t just a theater — it’s an experience. Five stars for keeping the arts alive in Sacramento, providing amazing performances, and creating a space that inspires creativity for all ages.

Google
The B Street Theatre’s production of The Art of War is a fantastic tour de force of a comedy—a perfect mirror of American culture in this moment. A very philosophical friend once reminded me that art which is truly current is vital, as it reflects and expresses the culture specific to its time. Dave Pierini’s world premiere—his screenplay and production of The Art of War—is a fine example of contemporary dramatic art. What begins as a seemingly superficial tit-for-tat drama quickly turns visceral, revealing something entirely different—surprising, entertaining, and brimming with recognizable stereotypes, sharp dialogue, and witty quips. I’m already on the lookout for the next production at the exceptional B Street Theatre.

Google
We enjoy this theatre so much! The shows have been wonderful. The theatre is well maintained. I love that they do themed drinks at the bar before the show!

Yelp
The Sofia has become one of my favorite spots to see a show. They always seem to have a good mix of performances, and the space itself is really comfortable ~ easy seats, good views, and just a nice overall vibe. The bar is great too. They make strong, classic cocktails (in a good way), which is perfect before the show starts. Overall, just a solid, enjoyable place to spend an evening. I always look forward to going back.

Yelp
B Street Theatre is truly one of Sacramento's brightest cultural gems! Their mainstage and family series always deliver sharp, hilarious, and heartfelt performances, and they also offer such an incredible range of programs beyond traditional theatre! One standout we recently attended was Perfect is the Enemy of the Good, a series curated and hosted by founding company member, Elisabeth Nunziato. Each month, Elisabeth brings together an extraordinary mix of comedy, live sketches, music, and deeply engaging guests. For example, we heard from one of the first female physics professors at UC Davis, and from a zoologist from the Sacramento Zoo sharing touching, behind-the-scenes stories of the animals she cares for. Each night has a theme that's moving, funny, smart, and full of surprises! Elisabeth's vision and hosting create a night where you don't just leave entertained, you leave uplifted and reminded of the creativity and goodness in the world. If you haven't experienced B Street Theatre, especially Elisabeth's series, do yourself a favor and go! It's magic!!

Yelp
Terrific venue! Came to see a play here and we loved it! Plenty of leg room in the theater. Full bar in the lobby. Reasonable prices on drinks. Clean restrooms. We will be back to see more!

Carol M.

Yelp
Saw in a nutshell story telling. November 2025 show. Disappointing. We came cause of the theme stories about "cars, trains, planes". 4 performers. Only one focused on the theme. The others did whatever they pleased. 2 storytellers didn't even do a story. They had an improv conversation while drinking beer on stage. I felt cheated out of seeing the handiwork of a crafted story. I don't like improv. And would never have gone to see this if I'd known 50% was that. It was sub standard. With only one good story. I won't go again.

Yelp
I love live theater. B street is such a small intimate theater where there are no bad seats. The shows and actors are great, and its a nice night out.
google avatar

Karen L.

Yelp
I came here to watch hocus pocus and it was such a great show. The actors were so funny. The theatre is so clean and the employees who work there are so friendly and nice. Definitely will be coming back to watch more shows
google avatar

Cindy M.

Yelp
Came here because we scored some free tickets! I honestly wasn't expecting much, but I was very impressed! The acting and enthusiasm was amazing. I was in awe by how well they executed the show with 4 cast members. Marie Curie was a great story and a great way to learn history. I definitely read more about her afterwards. The theatre itself is modern, clean, spacious. There is a spot to purchase drinks at the bar, and right next door is T Bar with drinks and food. Parking would either be on the street or the Sutter parking structure which is $4/hr. I would definitely come back and highly recommend coming here!

Yelp
Great little theatre , excellent play: The White Chip. Excellent customer service, tickets awaiting at will call, comfortable seats with great view. Super clean restrooms. The White Chip was phenomenal!
google avatar

Sofia G.

Yelp
Beautiful theater!! They offer a $9 at 9pm deal where you get to watch a play for only $9! We watched Nosotros La Gente and it was soo good! They have ushers as soon as you walk into the theater to direct you where to sit. The Sofia building is large, but the theater our play was in is small-medium in size. Which made for a more intimate experience. They also have a bar in the lobby which you can take inside. I can't wait to come back and watch more live theater!
google avatar

Lisa V.

Yelp
attended a fieldtrip here and it was so cute. the kids got to learn about holidays of different cultures and religion. the seats itself is a little small and hard to past through, so if i were to watch a regular show i would get there early! the actors/actresses sat and answered some questions from the students as well. saw an a bar with great choices as well. ill be back for a date night lol.
google avatar

Thoa H.

Yelp
I came for their $9at9PM special. I love that for every play the theater offers a discounted night. Normally tickets usually go for $23-35 so the $9 late night show is a deal! I was able to get last minute tickets for a sold out show. Show up 20-30 minutes before and put your name on the waitlist.

Yelp
Haven't been here yet for a theater performance/play, but did attend the latter portion of a private event (Ph.D. graduation party for one of my longtime actor/director friends) that utilized the upstairs (2nd floor) "Gallery A" rental space which was a pretty flexible space including the attached outdoor deck seating. I missed the earlier part of the evening program; not sure if it was held elsewhere within The Sofia. We had indoor/outdoor seating and standing, an open bar, catered food (tacos, quesadillas, desserts), and even a mechanical bull set up. Talk about party accommodations! Maximum of ~100 people or so for that space, with an area for gifts, music, easy access to restrooms and water fountains. Able to crack open windows and the doors to the outside deck, umbrellas for the tables but not much lighting except for the planters on the perimeter. Cushioned wicker chairs outside. Parking recommended was the Sutter Community Garage (2700 Capitol Ave, garage entrance on 28th between Capitol Avenue and N Street).

Yelp
First time to visit the Sofia. We came to see In a Nutshell (a Moth-centric story telling event). It was raining out when we arrived and we were glad to get into the parking garage which is part of the same block. But, you do have to exit the garage (as far as I know) to get to the front door of the theater. Very nice and helpful staff checked us in. It was general seating and we actually landed a couple really great seats. The theater is quite cozy, the vibe is relaxed, and there is not a bad seat in the house. They do serve cocktails and other drinks in the lobby which you can take to your seat as well. I highly recommend going to one or more of the In a Nutshell events. They have excellent story tellers and it is just an all around good evening to see and hear the experiences of others lives.

Tiffany L.

Yelp
First of all, you must go see Nosotros La Gente!!! It's based on a true story set in the 40's but it feels like a story today! The actors are fantastic & get ready to have all your emotions taped into. Bring tissue!!! I'd not been to this theater before & it's very nice. Modern, artsy but not over the top. Clean, airy & the theater area is intimate in size. Nothing obstructing your view. There is bar inside or after you can walk next door on either side of the theater for a meal! I'll be back!
google avatar

Vannessa G.

Yelp
I love the plays but this review is mostly about the venue. I love it. It's big and unlike music circus venue, if you are short you can still see the stage!!! This is obviously important to me as a short person. I also came to watch the show! Sadly the experience is not that great at other places.

Charlene C.

Yelp
DO NOT see the Art Of War! This play was not entertainment, it was hostile, argumentive with no sense of taste what so ever. I wanted to exit within ten minutes. I do not find humor in hearing God's name in vain multiple times as well as other profanity. I did not go to see displays of crudeness and of sexual content. I did not need to see the the adulterous affair on full display. There was absolutely no humor in this play, it was disgusting. The play was a complete waste of talent. If You call watching hostility entertainment then go and see this play. I wanted to treat my daughter for her birthday but ended up having to apologize for the tasteless play. I would have left before intermission but we had a few elderly women that we had to squeeze past to exit. I could not wait to exit the play. I had called the theater to ask if The Act of War was a clean play and the representative said that most of the plays were done tastfully. There was nothing tastful about this play. A waste of planning the event and a complete disappointment.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of visiting the B Street Theatre for my son's field trip. We enjoyed the "The Prince of Lightning: The Story of Young Nikola Tesla, Boy Genius." The staff at the B Street Theatre were friendly and did a great job in accommodating our fairly large group. I was impressed with the performance and learned a lot more than I knew about Nikola Tesla. The show was educational, interesting and kept the children engaged. The lighting and props were simple but good enough for the show. Great spot to catch a small production, enjoy some family time and maybe even a drink.
google avatar

Jonathan J.

Yelp
Great overall experience with performance and atmosphere, as a first timer with friends who are members. Unfortunately, I did have a poor encounter at the bar during intermission. The team member (white male) who spoke to me was rude and kept making sassy remarks. I did not take the bait and did not engage to his level. No tip. Keep the great shows coming, but please train your service staff on the soft skills (just be nice). Would go a long way.
google avatar

Raul F.

Yelp
I went here with my son for school field trip. We watched the Nikolai Tesla play. I was really impressed with the show. Equally impressed with this building. The acoustics in it are fantastic. The lighting is on point. I Can't wait to go back to watch a different play.

Yelp
this is one of my favorite places to watch live performances. From music, dance, comedy, to theatre the Sofia has it all, and never disappoints. Highly recommend checking this place out. Enjoy!

Yelp
The B Street Theater is a special venue. The current play NOSOTROS LA GENTE (WE THE PEOPLE) was exceptional! Well written and beautifully acted.
google avatar

Ashi C.

Yelp
Our first time at the B street Theater. First of all, I want to say, this is a beautiful theater. We came to watch the Christmas show with our little ones. I wish the show was catered more towards younger audience. One issue noted was show started late and they didn't tell us the reason. We kept on waiting for them to seat us. Later we found out one of the characters got injured. Glad someone was there to fill their shoe. I was getting nervous since we had other plans after the show. We'll definitely go back to watch more shows.
google avatar

Kenneth K.

Yelp
First time here and not our last! They require full vaccination plus proof of it & your identification prior to entering the venue. Good thing we are fully vaxed. Parking may be difficult but if you don't mind paying there's a garage around the corner. We street parked as we are pretty accustomed to the area. We arrived here when the doors opened at 6 PM. You can order a drink prior to entering the theater. We were able to choose wherever to sit. We chose the midrange area & they were excellent seats. No one really sat next to us. Yay! We were masked the entire time. Loved the sound range where we were located! Carmen J, A tribute to Teena Marie was fabulously entertaining! Thank you for coming to Sactown! My wife especially thanks you! It beats driving to the Bay Area or flying to Hollywood. What's even more positive is that the eateries that surround this venue are places we have eaten more than once & we do like that convenience! We love to see more entertainment here so I'm sure we will return! Can't wait! Woohoo!
google avatar

Tom S.

Yelp
Wonderful theater facility. 3 separate theaters in the large building. Sparkling clean, modern architecture that is still inviting feeling. Reasonably priced adult beverages at the bar. We attended a 2 hour play that was locally written. The top notch actors were mostly Sacramento residents. Theater seats are comfortable enough for the long-ish sit down. Support your live theater Sacramentans, go to a show!

Yelp
WoW - Saw "The Last Wide Open" on my first visit to B Street Theatre at the Sofia last night (the last performance is at 2PM today Feb 26, 2023). I have seen many shows and theaters over the decades that I have lived in the Bay Area, but the news story on ABC10 prompted me to make the trek to SAC and I would rank this experience as one of the tops. The theater provides comfortable seating, views, and sound for everyone. I wish this production could be recorded as I suspect it will be a long time before the stars are again aligned to bring together this perfect combination of talent and story. I'm always embarrassed to tear up and this production often embarrassed me. The story subtly incorporates so many details, aspects, and emotions of day-to-day life. It's difficult to imagine the story, however, without the intensity of the actor who played Lina, a character that is no less a tornado than my date and partner for many years. In my own relationship, I am no match for the charm, seductive Italian accent, and talents of the actor who played Roberto, however I have the saving grace of being weatherproof. The beautiful harp, piano and accompaniment of the "Stagehand" glued together the interleaved ballads from the actors. My only regret is that I was too timid to stand up to applaud at the end of each solo or song towards the end of each movement. B Street made for a wonderful post-Valentine. https://www.abc10.com/article/news/local/sacramento/heart-warming-musical-takes-stage-the-sofia/103-45a0771d-84b0-4f9b-b323-f67f9f561b6c

Yelp
Just saw a live performance of Creeptime The Podcast at The Sophia, and had a great time! The location was amazing! Clean, super nice staff, and very comfortable theatres. I'm looking forward to seeing more shows. The bar has a great selection of both alcohol and nonalcoholic drinks, so it's perfect for a quick drink before the performance.

Yelp
I am only reviewing their protocols for gift certificates. The theater is lovely and I have only had good experiences there. However. They have about $300 of my money sitting in an account where I am consistently unable to spend it. Part of this was a gift certificate I attempted to buy for a relative -- but not until the end of the process did it become clear that this wasn't going to work, because the money is in MY name and they don't actually give you a certificate, you just have money on file. Not much use as a gift! (Note that the website definitely indicates that you are going to get an actual gift certificate mailed to you.) Moreover, in addition to those funds I also have funds from a gift certificate we bought to support them during COVID closures, but I have never successfully spent any of these funds because gift certificate holders are bumped to the absolute last priority in terms of ticket purchases. You can't purchase online (since it's not a physical certificate, you just have money on your account), you have to call, and although I try to jump on it, literally every time I have tried to do this, the shows I want to attend are sold out. I can purchase tickets with my credit card as soon as shows are posted, but if I have to wait for the box office to open, I miss out. This is a small issue but it is extremely aggravating as it feels like being punished for trying to support the theater during a rough time. At this point I'm just going to consider it a donation, but they should really fix this process, because theater gift certificates are great and I would love to give them more often.

Yelp
They had girls flying on ropes! This place is pretty cool. The glass windows make it more scenic. The theater inside is pretty spacious. Restrooms are nicer than most. That is something we can all appreciate! If you haven't been, consider going. You do have to buy tickets and find parking.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
We had tickets to see the play Charade. First time at the new B Street Theatre. We were very much impressed. The play was very entertaining. We enjoyed it tremendously as did the ladies next to us!!!
google avatar

Yelp
What an amazing facility with generous, talented artists and staff. Go. Laugh. Support the arts and this incredible organization!

Oleta M.

Yelp
Just saw A Christmas Carol last night and am still smiling. Infused with humor from beginning to end - a refreshing take on an old classic. Well done B Street!

Katherine C.

Yelp
My husband and I love having date night and going to see shows at the Sofia. It's such a beautiful venue and the plays are always entertaining. Thanks to the Sofia for keeping the arts alive and well in our community!
google avatar

Yelp
The latest play, "The play That Goes Wrong" was a delight! Watched it last night to a full crowd. https://bstreettheatre.org/mainstage/the-play-the-goes-wrong/
google avatar

Gloria L.

Yelp
I watched Calum Graham and Andy McKee in July 2022 in the more intimate space, and it was the perfect environment! It's much smaller than the main auditorium (where I saw them in 2019) which made for a more personable experience, plus the stage was simply a rug. The sound and lighting were great as well. I'd love to come back to this venue for future shows.
google avatar

Brandon M.

Yelp
Very nice.Always great actors and the stories are just the bee's knees. If you are looking for love entertainment this is the place to be..

Tom B.

Yelp
First time here. Wonderful all seated venue. Not a bad seat in the house. Holds about 350 people. Great staff. They have a reasonably priced bar and they even serve your drink in a real glass. Could probably bring in your own water bottle as they have a drinking fountain. No hassle about searching your bag at the entrance as long as you aren't bringing in a huge bag. Will definitely be coming back for another show.

N. D.

Yelp
A truly great place to watch live music. The seats are plush and comfortable plus they have a open bar. It's nice to kick back with a drink and not have to stand for 2 hours to watch a show. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Sharon Y.

Yelp
I visited The Sofia for the first time this year. I can't believe I missed so many great shows at this wonderful theater. It's been a great experience with wonderful shows and great staff

Roger J.

Yelp
I've been a B Street Theatre season subscriber since 2008. They always do excellent productions and the cast are beloved local celebrities. If you like farce and other comedies, this is the place for you. (A bit more than I like but in general the plays are great and the facility is state of the art!) If you have kids, don't miss the excellent Family Series. There's also a space for touring musicians with great variety.

M M.

Yelp
B street is a wonderful Sacramento Theatre Group. I have been going to plays there for well over a decade. The plays are always well acted and entertaining. The Sofia is a charming venue and very seat is a good seat.
google avatar

Bob R.

Yelp
Gosh, Carol S., it does say on their Web site, "Health & safety Measures taken here "Mask required "Temperature check required "Staff wear masks "Staff get temperature checks "Staff required to disinfect surfaces between visits"
google avatar

Tami O.

Yelp
Great little theater. Love the new, contemporary digs. Great location for both public and private events.
google avatar

Jess L.

Yelp
I saw _The Perfect Match_ at B Street Theatre a few weeks ago. The four-person show was suspenseful and entertaining (though if you don't know anything about tennis, it would be a little tough to follow). This theater is quite large and clean and well maintained. All the seats in the theater are good! There's a full bar and small lobby area. You can bring your drinks inside. The audience skewed a bit older, but I assume that depends on the type of show going on. While there is usually a main show going on, there are lots of other events throughout the week and spaces to explore.

M N.

Yelp
Show was bad we "had an backstage tour" more like a front stage tour did not learn anything was not fun the only good thing was the lighting sometimes
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
We just watched the play, Charade, and it was a delightful production. We had watched the old Cary Grant movie a few days earlier; which helped in following the continuity of the play, but seeing the movie really wasn't necessary. David Perrini did a great job in transforming the movie into a physical play, all the more compelling from the production using only 5 actors. The play is a drama, and pretty much followed the movie, but the play had some funny lines that were not in the movie; and these made it even more enjoyable. We would highly recommend seeing this production.
google avatar

Tom G.

Yelp
Beautiful auditoriums in a wonderful neighborhood with food venues nearby... Of course the entertainment is the best part!
google avatar

Steph G.

Yelp
The venue is beautiful but has some business flaws. I've only been here once and it was to attend a concert. First, figuring out how to purchase tickets was not the best customer experience. Essentially, it was as if I couldn't buy them online (could be my error). I ended up calling in and the employee who I spoke with did not seem confident in their ability to process my transaction. In the end, it worked out fine, they had my name on the list for a ticket, I just had to pay when I arrived. The venue is centrally located, super clean, and really nice. They have it laid out a little oddly with different theaters, but it's not very well labeled. They had a step-and-repeat when you walk if you want to take a photo. But besides that, it is just like a free for all. The bar was awesome and the staff was cool. I love that they have Revolution Wine as their house wine, it's the best. They only have a few cocktails to choose from, but at least five different beers (I think). The process for the concert was a little archaic in my mind. Doors opened at 6 PM for a 7 PM show. It is first to come first serve basis and they go off of colored wristbands. So, everyone was hanging out and they asked the green color to line up. Then they did orange and we went in, after that, I'm not sure. It just seems silly to be in 2019 and going off colored wristbands. Pricing should be according to seat location in my book, not because you can get there an hour before the show starts. However, this is their process and I don't really get a say. The show was amazing. Goapele is amazing. I don't know much about acoustics and sounds, but it sounded great to the untrained ear. We had a great time and had space to go to the stage to snap a pic without pissing anyone off. The staff were cordial and didn't really bug anyone during the show. They handled one person who was rudely standing in the very front with their phone recording and asked them to sit down, I appreciated that. Overall, I am excited to come back here for a show or another concert. Their business process and customer experience are not my favorites, but I think they will and can improve. Small, but mighty!
google avatar

Denise J.

Yelp
Attended the Eliane Elias concert and wow - the acoustics are fantastic! everything about the new location is fantastic. The seats are wide and comfortable and regardless of where you sit, you have a wonderful view and fantastic sound experience. By the way - enjoy those seats - they are something spectacular and purchased from a top, theater seat manufacturer. Your tush and back will thank you! Grab a drink, bring it into the theater with you and enjoy the spectacular acoustics!

Yelp
Come here for your local play productions; get comfy in Intimate setting- you will find there are great seats all around. This place if fantastic the vibe is powerfully positive and novel in an art sense. Inside the seated theater it is intimate enough to bring you it but still comfortable. The merchandising area has enough room for those that are performing. They have a bar which serves beer, wine, and liquor- the staff is friendly and incredibly helpful. I love the openness of the glass entry way it makes the place feel grand. When I was there they had a concert on one side and the other side there was a play going on which I think is a great mix of the arts.
