10 Best Spas in San Diego | Condé Nast Traveler

"This spa is almost exactly what you'd expect to find at the upscale, Craftsman-style Lodge at Torrey Pines in La Jolla , occupying a corner of the property and half-hidden by well-manicured lawns and gardens. Patterned, wall-to-wall carpeting lines the lounge area, where you can kick back on a white chaise lounge while you wait for your treatment. Spring for one of the luxe exfoliation treatments, so long as you're fine with being nearly naked (a small towel covers the necessary areas). While your body gets buffed, warm water from five shower heads rinses your skin." - Archana Ram

The Spa at Torrey Pines - Spa Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"What’s the vibe at this place? The spa is almost exactly what you'd expect to find at the upscale, Craftsman-style Lodge at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, occupying a corner of the property and half-hidden by well-manicured lawns and gardens. Patterned, wall-to-wall carpeting lines the lounge area, where you can kick back on a white chaise lounge while you wait for your treatment. Take us into the room. How was the session itself? Massages and wraps incorporate seaweed, Argan oil, and the resort's signature lemongrass and sage blend for a soothing, restorative experience. Skin sessions range from the more traditional facials, to lip- and eye-specific treatments. Spring for one of the luxe exfoliation treatments, so long as you're fine with being nearly naked (a small towel covers the necessary areas). While your body gets buffed, warm water from five shower heads rinses your skin. Nice. What about after the treatment? There are separate locker rooms for men and women, along with dry saunas, herbal-infused steam rooms, aromatherapy inhalation rooms, and a relaxation lounge with sofa chairs and a fireplace. Showers are spacious, and the vanity area is stocked with deodorant, Q-tips, hair dryers, curling irons, hair spray, and Moroccan oil amenities. Not too shabby. There's isn't a spa-specific wet area, but all spa-goers have access to the resort's outdoor pool and Jacuzzi, which overlooks the golf course. What do they do best here, then? Just-fine locker rooms and relaxation areas belie the spa's first-rate treatments." - Archana Ram

The Spa at Torrey Pines is a nice place to get a spa day in San Diego. If you’re getting a massage or facial, I definitely recommend showing up early and spending time in the sauna and steam room first - it really helps your body relax and makes the massage feel even better. I appreciate the cleanliness of the spa, the nice robes, towels and slippers. The sauna is not warm enough to my taste and the interior and decor of the hotel is not my cup of tea, but I visited the spa twice and had a pleasant and relaxing experience both times. Jeff gave me an amazing massage, I highly recommend his services. What’s nice is that if you’re getting a service, you can stay and enjoy the pool, jacuzzi, and the views of the golf course. It feels peaceful and elevated, but not over-the-top. Just a beautiful, relaxing day with great staff and great energy.

I went to the Torrey Pines Lodge spa for the day with two friends and it was wonderful! We got facials and massages and spent the day here. We started by going in the morning for complimentary yoga, then enjoyed the sauna and hot tub/ pool before our facials. We ate lunch at the fine dining restaurant then enjoyed the relaxation room until our massages. I had Jeff for my massage and will definitely request him when I come back again. He was excellent as was the esthetician. Great experience!

Had an awesome time here this past weekend! Their amenities were amazing, I felt so relaxed. The best part of my time was the pedicure I got with dorinna. She was so kind, amazing, & made my toes look wonderful! Thank you dorinna! Will definitely be coming back!

This is my second time at this spa. I had an 80 min stone massage and my massage therapist was wonderful. He was very friendly & professional. Amenities are very clean & pool is beautiful.

The Spa at Torrey Pines – A Scam Disguised as a Luxury Experience If I could leave zero stars, I would. This place is a total ripoff. I expected a world-class massage, some level of customer service, and an actual relaxing atmosphere. What I got instead was an absolute disaster from start to finish. Facilities – More Like a Cheap Hotel Than a Luxury Spa The robe was tiny—barely fit, totally uncomfortable. It felt like I was wearing a child’s bathrobe. The dry sauna wasn’t hot at all. There were four people inside wearing full robes, totally unbothered. If a sauna isn’t hot enough to make you sweat, it’s just a sad, wood-paneled room. The wet sauna was fine, but when I came out, my slippers were gone. Walking barefoot through a spa that costs $$$$ for a massage? Unacceptable. The Massage – A Joke My massage therapist immediately tried to upsell me. If I wanted a sales pitch, I’d go to a used car lot. I explained that I have hip and knee pain—real tension issues. What did she say? “You didn’t pay for that. You only get a light, relaxing massage.” EXCUSE ME? $$$$ FOR A LIGHT MASSAGE?? What I got wasn’t a massage—it was an oily rubdown that did absolutely nothing. No pressure, no technique, and nothing remotely therapeutic. When I told her I needed deeper pressure, she just said, “Try to relax.” Oh, I would love to relax, except this place is robbing me blind. By the end, I was drenched in oil like some kind of rotisserie chicken. I had to shower immediately because I felt disgusting. Customer Service – Or Lack Thereof I told the front desk how awful the experience was, and they said? “There’s nothing we can do. You have to leave a review on TripAdvisor.” No refund, no apology, NOTHING. They don’t care because they already have your money. Atmosphere – You Call This Relaxing? After my horrible massage, my friend and I went to have a drink on the porch. Instead of peace and quiet, we got screaming kids running wild, coughing on everything. Nothing says luxury spa like a toddler shrieking at the top of their lungs while you’re trying to unwind. Final Verdict – Don’t Waste Your Money For the price, I expected a premium experience, not a bare-minimum, zero-effort spa day. I’ve had better massages at random Thai places. This place sucks. Save your money. Go anywhere else.

Google
We loved the experience until the realization set in that we were up charge with CBD oil treatment, I was never told that there was an extra charge. This is so disappointing. Also, my wife and I both felt pressured to upgrade to an 80 minute massage. Look, we came to the spa for relaxation not to be pumped for every cent we have. I’ll have to rethink ever returning for another spa day.

Being a local, this spa has always been one of my go-to resort spas. It is clean, relaxing, and the massage therapists are wonderful. I recently had Jeff this past time and he was incredible! Highly recommend The Lodge for a rejuvenating experience!

Google
This Spa is so elegant and everything you want from a spa day. The check in staff was friendly and welcoming. They offer you robes and sandals. Great products for hair and face for after shower. The sauna is clean and very hot! It’s perfect. The steam room was a little run down, that is my only complaint. They had ice towels for you to use if needed. The lounge area was very cozy, warm, a little fireplace burning, blankets and had great tea selection and some fruit options. The reason I’m giving this place 5 stars is for the massage therapist Jackie! She was amazing. She was friendly and made sure I was comfortable the whole time. She asked if I had any problem areas and she addressed them in the massage. Her massage was relaxing and therapeutic. I’ve been to the lodge for their food many times and it’s also 5 stars! Love this place, great ambience and friendly staff.

Yelp
The spa was upscale and relaxing. Nice products and courteous staff. I don't like how 20% gratuity is automatically added. I guess it prevents their therapists from getting stiffed but it seems like a demotivating policy. My massage was good but not great. I would have left 15%. I will try Estancia next time. I love the Lodge however. It's great to have lunch and drinks by the pool. Gorgeous views!

Yelp
Went Torrey Pines Soa and had a great time. I received theBalneo Therapy was a great way to relax before my Vichy Shower body scrub. Both treatments extremely relaxing. My skin was so soft after my treatments. My boyfriend received the Sea Weed Leaf Body Wrap and he enjoyed it as well. Unfortunately when we went the pool seemed to be under construction so we spent most of the time in the separate men's and women's locker rooms. In the women's there was a dry sauna and eucalyptus steam room and in the men's i was told there was a tv with seating. Will definitely be back to try more services!

Yelp
Front desk staff were friendly and helpful; they explained what amenities I have access to as well as gave me a tour of the whole spa. The locker room is nice and clean, and the lockers had more than ample space for my tote bag and running sneakers I brought to use at the gym before my treatments. The changing rooms, bathrooms, and showers are all very clean as well. All products available to use were of higher quality which I found impressive. There are even hair tools you can use if you need to brush your hair or touch up your curls, etc. The relaxation lounge was nice and calming; perfect lighting to keep you relaxed as well as a fireplace to sit near while you sip fruit infused water or some herbal tea. The chairs in that area were also very comfortable and easy to relax in. My 80min full body massage was great! I had no problem letting my masseuse know when to adjust pressure and she would respond accordingly. My 50min facial was also amazing! It was my first time ever receiving a facial and I enjoyed the whole experience, leaving me feeling extremely pampered. I utilized the dry sauna room after my treatments and it was perfect, I almost fell asleep it was so cozy in there. It was easy to adjust the temperature of the room to my liking and the music was very calming and zen. Overall, I would definitely return! I have no idea why others have rated this establishment so low, but for me I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here and would encourage others to give it a chance.

Yelp
Today I had a wonderful experience at this spa, celebrating my Grandma-in-law's 90th birthday. The staff was extremely professional and accommodating, especially with my Grandma's special needs. My massage therapist, Jackie, was amazing! She went above and beyond to work through my trouble spots and was extremely welcoming. Next time I come to La Jolla I know where to spa ‍ thank you for the wonderful day & memory!

Yelp
Such a wonderful experience every single visit. I leave feeling refreshed and pampered and as though I've had a full luxury experience from the moment I enter to the moment I begrudgingly leave. Staff if friendly, well trained, knowledgeable and very talented. This is also one of the best gifts I've ever received so if you are looking for a gift for someone LOOK NO FURTHER!

Yelp
I've had very good experiences with massages and manicures in the past (thus four stars for overall experience). But my last experience there was disappointing. The massage therapist named Mila said and did some things that made me uncomfortable (insensitive both in the way she massaged and interacted with me). I will make sure to avoid her in the future.

D T.

Yelp
get Mila if you can. got her on short notice and was the best massage I've ever had. and have had massages for years all over

Yelp
I'm not sure why this spa only has 3.5 stars, but I can only speak to my experience...which was nothing short of amazing. I spent my birthday there yesterday, and beforehand I did a ton of research on La Jolla spas. What sold me on this one is that in addition to my massage and balneotherapy, I could go on a nature walk and take a yoga class all-inclusive! The nature walk was absolutely splendid, Joe (our tour guide) was one of the highlights of my day. He was so nice and knowledgeable, I learned a ton about the actual Torrey Pine trees along with so many other wildlife species. The yoga class was perfect, it was a nice mix of intense and mellow postures. My aromatherapy massage was heavenly (I actually fell asleep lol). I'd probably skip the balneotherapy next time even though I felt great after. It was like taking a bath in sea salt with jets for 20 minutes, so not the most eventful. I also gazed at the ocean while tanning by the pool. Oh and they have a dry sauna and eucalyptus steam room. I'm a huge fan of the showers too, not only were they clean and fully stocked, but there's a changing area right before you step into the actual shower, which was super convenient for privacy. Long story short, I'd recommend this spa in a heartbeat! It was a truly dream-like day.

Yelp
Danielle is the best! I hadn't been to the spa since Covid and was so grateful that Danielle was still working there. I love getting massages but none compare to the kind of work she does. She is so kind, caring, attentive & a real healer. 100000/10 would recommend her to family and friends. She's just incredible. I like the spa products and the steam room but I will go back just for Danielle, she's the true gem at the spa!

Yelp
The best hotel, and the best spa! I had one of the best massages I've ever had from Esther at the spa. She totally listened to my problem areas, and I cannot wait to go back and see her soon. Friendly staff and beautiful spa.

Karen F.

Yelp
I had a citrus manicure and pedicure today at the spa. It was outstanding. The nail technician was very calming, thorough and did an excellent job. I know I can find less expensive nail services but it was worth the cost to have the relaxing experience, not be rushed out of the chair and to not have to file rough edges when I get home. I highly recommend the manicure and pedicure at Torrey Pines.

Yelp
3-4 star facilities with a 5 star massage. We got a couples massage during our stay here and like the rest of the resort, overall it was very solid but just a bit dated. The relaxation area was well appointed with trail mixes, teas and fruit and I like how it was co-ed so we could wait for our treatment together. The massage was also great, used up the whole time and was done in a nicely appointed couples room on heated beds. They also finish off the massage with a chocolate which is also a nice touch! I agree with the other reviews though, at this price point (more than $500 after gratuity with an 80 mins couple massage) you do expect a place with an indoor jacuzzi and nicer robes and facilities. Ah well! Overall it was a solid experience and I wouldn't hesitate to return.

Yelp
Sent my girl there for a spa day for her birthday. She couldn't have been more excited about it. She was even more in cloud nine after she left. Thank you to everyone on staff for making her day magical.

Yelp
I'm really unsure as to why this place only has 3.5 stars. I feel as though it's the vibe of the entire hotel. Old school, feels like your in Northern California in the woods, dark interior, dim lights. It's the vibe of the place it doesn't mean it's horrible. This review is only for the spa and the pool area. The spa is not the easier to find, but once directed there you enter through the doors, to a gift shop and front desk. The smell of essential oils explodes in your face. It's a calm and great environment. The front desk employees were friendly, and welcoming. The spa provides you with spa sandals, and a designated robe that is waiting your in assigned locker. Two separate locker rooms for the men and the women. The men's side is large, with lockers, a full bathroom with amenities. Deodorant, face wash, mouth wash, shampoo, body wash, conditioner, blow dryer, and extra towels. The locker is clean and everything is in its place. There are three different rooms you can enjoy in the locker room: a steam room, a sauna, and an inhalation room ( just a room with essential oils). There is also a designated men's waiting room with a tv, and two chairs. There is two coed waiting rooms as well. Fresh ice cold water, water with cucumber, a variety of tea, and snacks. One of the rooms has a fireplace as well. My wife and I did a couples message 50 minutes and it was great! The two therapists were amazing. Danielle was great! Pressure was on point! My wife is 36 weeks pregnant and had a great massage by a gentlemen named Will. She said he was great and actually gave her a massage, unlike some places she has been to while pregnant. The massage beds were warm, and comfortable. The only compliant is that the floor was tile and you could hear the therapists waking around. At the end of the treatment you received a salted covered dark chocolate treat. It was great! We wanted to enjoy the pool afterward shopping that the weather was going to be better but it was cold. The jacuzzi was good, it overlooked the golf course and the beach. The pool was warm, but not to a temperature for swimming which is fine. We didn't order anything from the pool side, it was a small menu and didn't hit our fancy.

Yelp
I love this spa. Massage was great; the abundance of teas and trail mix types was quite welcome; Moroccan oil products were a nice touch (most spas have hideous hair products that strip all my hair, so I tend to bring mine). The main reason i love this spa, however, is that you can access their pool area: they have a wonderful golf course-View jacuzzi, surrounded by a few trees. I felt like an empress in Ancient Rome! Tip: The Torrey pines lodge room rates are quite high; we stayed at the Hilton next door (really pretty) and accessed the spa with the Hilton discount for 50%.

Yelp
I wanted to give The Spa at Torrey Pines 5 stars. The facility, the service, the therapist are 5 stars, absolutely. The spa is tucked away on the first floor of the resort. The lounge areas are relaxing with a fireplace, assortment of teas, and cucumber/lemon water. My massage was amazing. I splurged and upgraded to an 80-minute treatment and it was well worth it. So why am I not giving them 5 stars? Because when I went to shower and saw the ingredients in their signature body wash, shampoo, and conditioner, I was extremely disappointed. The ingredient list is exactly what you would find on a .99 bottle of shampoo: sulfates, artificial fragrance, methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone (two preservatives that are known to be harsh on skin) and artificial colors. If this were a budget hotel, I would expect these cheap ingredients, but not at a 5-star resort. When guests go to relax, destress, and detoxify, they end up retoxifying by introducing these ingredients into their skin and system. Also worth mentioning that sulfates are the #1 ingredients in shampoo to avoid if you color your hair as they cause the color to fade faster. I urge the management at the Spa to take another look at your formulations and work with your lab to come up with a more healthy, natural, beneficial signature line incorporating essential oils of lemongrass and sage. You have a beautiful facility; you should have signature products that reflect the natural beauty and healing atmosphere of the spa and resort.

Yelp
Good treatment. Not so much facility or pricing-wise. I had both a massage and a facial . The massage was excellent. The facial was good. I was disappointed with the lack of coordination between them two. This was particularly annoying given that I have booked a package of both services and soso I expected there wouldn't be redundancy (for example, both included had, arm and neck massages). The facility itself could use some updating. It would also be nice if it were over lookinglooking at golf course, ocean, etc., instead of being tucked in a basement with no windows. Finally, while definitely not on the cheap side, when I checked out I was informed there is a mandatory 20% service fee.! This is quite an acceptable. If this is a mandatory fee, it should be included in the price of the package and quoted as such. Not being "hidden". Also, as far as I know the idea of service fees/tipping is that it allows customers to express how satisfied with services they were. Not adding you on the 20% could be interpreted by those who actually provided the devices as dissatisfaction (which isn't the case). In short--not recommending.

Yelp
Stopped by here during one of my work trips and absolutely had a great massage experience with Esther. She is an intuitive massage therapist, and I felt incredible afterwards. Next time I will definitely go for a longer massage! Also I have to give credit to the manager and front desk staff. I left my favorite pair of sunglasses in the women's locker room. When I was already at the airport I realized they were missing and I called them immediately. They were promptly able to locate my glasses and keep them safe. The company mailed them home to me in Dallas at my request. When they arrived, to my pleasant surprise i found the package so neat and secure that I couldn't believe how good of shape my sunnies were still in. I really appreciated it and give props to the thoughtfulness of the staff. Thanks so much! Kind of like what other reviews say, the only reason I took off one star is because I also think the facility could be updated. Shower in the locker room kind of went from hot to cold a few times and although the Vichy shower felt amazing it was a little squeaky at times. Beautiful facility though and great amenities.

Yelp
I visited the spa a month ago, and had the most amazing massage by Stacie. I returned this weekend, and was excited to see that I had been scheduled with her again. She is truly a healer. Her massages are amazing. I splurged for the 80 minute, and I'm glad I did. I've had massages at some of the fanciest hotels in the world, and this was by far the best. If this spa was closer to my house, I'd be broke.

Yelp
Warning. This review is not for the prude in anyone. So if you are easily offended by graphic depictions of women naked- seek your information in another place. All right then. For those of you who chose to keep reading- let's get one thing straight. I am a spa aficionado. I do spas all over the world and the signature treatment in a spa tells me everything I ever need to know. Case in point- the Spa at Torrey Pines Lodge. Built about 6 years ago- this mission style influenced spa has a signature treatment that will have the prudes running and the rest of us ohhing and ahhing over the total relaxation that it creates. Called the "Coastal Sage scrub" this is 50 minutes of pure indulgence. You lay naked (your "privates" are covered with a small towel/washcloth?) on a welled table in a tiled room (kind of reminded me of an embalming room without the smell - Ha!) A Vichy shower (5 shower heads that cascade hot water on you through the entire process- makes you feel you are under a waterfall) allows you to totally relax as you are loofahed with warm water and shower gel, exfoliated with a sage scrub and then allowed to lay for awhile under the "fountain shower" before being finished off with a light massage with their lemongrass souffle cream. Now this treatment is not for those who have issues with laying naked while a total stranger scrubs your body. But if you can get over those issues- you find yourself in pure bliss- kind of like when you were a child and mom scrubbed you in the tub. I also suggest getting a 50 minute massage prior to the scrub so that you are totally relaxed. The spa itself in lovely- with most of the amenities that you would look for in a spa of this caliber. Where they missed, in my opinion, is that there is no common "wet area" at this spa. If you want to sit in a whirlpool or swim after your treatments- you have to leave the spa and head over to the main pool area. What's with that? The waiting room is co-ed with comfortable chairs and ottomans circled around a fireplace (the men's side circles around a TV-imagine!) There is fresh fruit, cucumber and lemon water and a variety of herbal teas to enjoy. The technicians are top notch- the products are resort specific and carry the signature scent of sage and lemongrass, and I liked that you could try some new facial products for free. Overall, this is a nice spa experience. But then again . . . .what could ever be wrong with a day at the Spa?

Yelp
My favorite spa in San Diego! I'm a local so when I was looking for a great spa to treat myself to I called the Lodge and was delightfully surprised to learn what's included! A day pass includes full use of the spa facilities: locker, shower/pool slippers, plush robe, showers, stocked vanities, sauna, relaxation room with fireplace, gym AND the pool! Free self parking or you can treat yourself to valet. My first trip to the spa I simply got the day pass and enjoyed the pool all day long. But on my second trip I indulged in a massage. The relaxation room was cozy - my soft full robe wrapped around me as I lounged by a soft crackling fire, it was like a movie! My masseur was wonderfully professional. She got the pressure just right, worked out all my knots and just let me relax. The SHOWERS have a double curtain which provides a great space to change or leave your robe/clothes, etc when stepping out. It also allows them each to be ADA compliant while allowing for extra space. The VANITY areas each have a; hair dryer, curling iron, brush, pick, comb, q-tips, tissue, deodorant, hair spray, hair gel and other items I can't recall - very impressive. The LOCKER AREA is not completely private, but there are private changing rooms there too. The lockers are large enough to store your gym clothes, pool clothes and a change of clothes. The plush robes and slippers are also a great touch. You can ask for your size slippers too! I've yet to use the sauna or gym area, but I'm sure I'll be back!

Yelp
I had a divine 80-minute massage with Will. They have gender-specific lounges as well as a co-ed lounge which was nice for couples to wait together. The locker rooms were nicely appointed and the showers and steam room we're very relaxing. My only suggestion is to increase the sauna temperature as it seems entirely way too cool to promote relaxation.

Yelp
We had a great stay at the lodge. The holiday decor is just beautiful! For breakfast during the weekend, A.R. Valentine is the best, highly recommend! I didnt get to use the spa, but I attended morning yoga class and it was the BEST yoga class I have taken. Marie was our instructor. She was extremely knowledgeable, very clear guidance and I was able to go deeper into the postures then I have ever had before. I will definitely request her next time we come back to San Diego.

Yelp
I love going to the Spa at Torrey Pines Lodge. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere is relaxing and restorative. This last weekend was my second time visiting the spa, I purchased a facial and massage package that included gratuity and really felt like a great value for all the pampering I received. I would highly recommend if you are looking to treat yourself or gift to someone else.

Yelp
I went and got my first massage at the Spa at Torrey Pines today...wow! I was so impressed. The parking is free in the self parking area. When you get in there are kind men waiting at front that will help you find the spa because it's kind of a few hallways away from the entrance. The spa is cute when you walk in with a little gift shop. The gal that helped me up front was very kind. She gave me a tour and showed me my locker which had a kit for the shower, and a bathrobe, and she gave me shoes to wear. While I waited there is a nice room with a fireplace, magazines, cucumber water, and tea. My provider was Amanda. She was so nice and friendly, and made sure I was comfortable throughout. She focused on my needs and it was probably the best massage I have ever had. Afterward I used the shower which was awesome it has 3 different curtains you can close so you have full privacy. Then the stations out by the bathroom have blowdryers, curling irons, clean hair brushes, blow dryers, q-tips, face stuff, etc. I would highly recommend. The prices are higher but it's because of the great service and awesome location!

Yelp
Honestly, not impressed! The "Petite Spa Package" is less than petite. I was rushed in and out of 3 services that were performed haphazardly. The products used on my face by the esthetician gave me a chemical reaction. I'm writing this review three days after my facial, and my eyes and checks are still red and puffy with a rash. What irks me most is that I went into detail with the esthetician about my sensitivities to products, and she insisted that she was using only natural, all organic products. The manicure was a total rush job. The technician left hangnails behind. The polish never cured and after I have gone to bed that evening, I awoke to find that my polish had sheet marks all throughout. The Head Over Heels foot massage was good. But for the cost of all services, it should have included neck and shoulders! $235 (the spa tacks on an 18% gratuity) not at all well spent! I feel completely ripped off! I will not return.

Yelp
For eight years I have been a client at the Torrey Pines Spa and most especially the past three years I have watched the physical appearance and service degenerate to the degree that my family and friends will not be returning to the spa. Complements that were once placed in the lockers are now delegated to nothing. The robes are so old and thin that they are nearly see-through and the shoe thongs provided are in such poor condition that they are torn in many places and difficult keep on your feet. Blow dryers and curling iron's are old and hair damaging inefficient. My last appointment was for two services in one day - one was a massage and the other being a body wrap - the service providers were worse than I had ever experienced and unknown to me when I arrive at the front to settle my charges, I am only then informed that a 20 percent gratuity is now automatically added to each spa fee.

Yelp
The staffs were very nice and provided great service. Clean and well maintained but their amenities are too old. Minus one star for that. The robe was very old and thin and the dryer was hard to connect to power(It kept falling off due to its old condition) Other than that the service was very nice!

Yelp
Had a relaxing and rejuvenating massage. I got a 90 minute deep tissue and I'm pretty sure I almost fell asleep at one point. The masseuse was very professional and made sure not to overstep any uncomfortable boundaries without compromising the experience. However, I had 2 issues with this spa: one being the fact that we booked 4 people at the same time, all for 90 minute massages, but my husband somehow only got a 50 minute massage. At the end of it all, they still wanted to charge us the 90 minutes for him. After raising concerns with them, they decided to charge only for the 50 minutes. Also, when we checked in, they should be asking us if we are ok with a male or female massage therapist. They didn't ask any of us, and I ended up with a male therapist. This didn't necessarily upset me, but I know when my husband found out afterwards, he was a little miffed, especially since we were in separate rooms. Sorry, but my hubby doesn't like any other man with his hands all over my body! I didn't say anything because at that point everything was already booked as is and it happened so fast. I remember any time spas wanted to put me with a male therapist, they ALWAYS asked beforehand, even before scheduling the appointment. Anyway, just a heads up if that's a big deal to you--ask them yourself. Otherwise, the spa itself is quite nice and has showers, changing areas with blow dryers and curling irons, etc. as well as a nice sitting room with teas and snacks.

Yelp
Great deep tissue massage. Staff was very attentive and made my birthday special. They even gave me a gift of gourmet chocolates. The spa bathroom has everything to get ready that you would need too!

Yelp
My first time at a spa with a friend of mine who invited me to the treat, and it was a good experience. Polite and professional staff took care of us. This is a month old overdue review.

Yelp
Fantastic experience! We had a couples massage while celebrating our anniversary and it was phenomenal. Rested in the steam room and inhalation room then went and swam in the pool and relaxed in the jacuzzi. Such an awesome day!

Yelp
I have a Day of Bliss at the Spa a couple times a year with friends and they are always wonderful days. Everyone there is so nice and helpful. I try to get Kirsten as my massage therapist as she is very good and friendly. Today Rosario and Chloe at the front desk were exceptionally inviting and accommodating. There was a small miscommunication and they were quick to make it beyond right. A morning hike on the scenic trail by the ocean followed by a relaxing massage in a beautiful spa finished off with a nice lunch in the lovely restaurant is a perfect way to spend a San Diego day, and I'm a local.

Yelp
Facial was nice but I also got my eyebrows waxed and she took off WAY too much in the middle. The next day I did my makeup and realised the front off my eyebrows that usually had so much hair and is fluffy is all gone and looks like a bald spot. Wouldn't get a wax done here again but the facial was nice. The rule of thumb is to take off hair in the middle of the brow that hits the nostril of the person, but coming from asian heritage that rule doesn't apply because our nose shapes are different and she literally took off 25% of my brows that is going to be difficult to grow back.

Yelp
-Facilities were a little dated for the price and star rating of the hotel -Excellent massage therapist -Nice steam room and sauna but both were small -No whirlpool or multi-head showers

Yelp
My sister-in-law and I treated my niece for her 18th birthday! Each one of us had a 50 minute massage and were treated with the beautiful ambiance! We had an early appointment, so that we could spend the rest of the afternoon poolside. Prior to our massage, we lounged by the fireplace in our robes drinking hot tea and chatting. That massage was fabulous and the grounds were absolutely stunning! I recommend the experience, we will always remember that special day.

Yelp
I got the Oceanic Detox Body Wrap with Bill and he was amazing! This was my first wrap and he definitely knew what he was doing and had a lot of great information for me. He made me feel super comfortable and was very professional. I got a Petite Facial with Angela as well. She was really sweet, the facial was quick but she did a great job! I only wish at some point of the facial you got a hand/arm massage...love those!

Yelp
So luxurious and tranquil. They are known for their high end customer service and attention to detail and they deserve that reputation. I took my staff here for massages and facials in lieu of a holiday party of food and drinks. It was just what we all needed and oh so wonderful. I won't be waiting until next Christmas to come back that's for sure.

Yelp
Update-since my review the staff immediately followed up with me to resolve the situation. I genuinely appreciate when a business cares enough to make it right! Oh man! I was SO excited for my hot stone massage on Sunday but it was terrible!! I got a thank you gift card and was always under the impression that this spa was one of the top in San Diego. When I went to book it I asked for the best therapist they have and was told Sarah was it. I've had stone massage before and can't really describe as anything less than amazing. This was not my experience at Torrey Pines. Not everyone has the knack for massage. Sarah was so mechanical and brash that I felt like I was a dummy on a slab. No soft transitions, just 'ok now I massage your shoulder, ok now your forearm, oh back to your neck, etc'. It felt like she was going through a mental checklist for 80 minutes. Oh right, not 80 minutes as she cut me short 10. Even walking from side to side was harsh and not at all consistent with the soft environment one expects at a massage. She only rested the hot stones on my back and not on my stomach chakras as is supposed to be done as well. I got the vibe that she was getting through her day, not enjoying serving someone and focusing on giving them a solid massage. (For over $200!?) I was pretty stunned when I left so I just paid the bill and gave a small tip since I'm not an a*hole but this was, hands down, the worst massage I've ever had. Bummer

Yelp
My package included 50 massage 50 facial and 50 pedicure. I was greeted with a smile and everyone was very helpful. So why the 3 stars. They put my neck-less in a Kleenex. I still had a little head cold, so not really playing attention. I got to my hotel room and got a little distracted and I must have thrown the Kleenex out. I have having others pickup my used Kleenex. I should have known better and for that my diamonds from my original wedding band are gone. That is on me. But come one people help us out. Don't use something that is commonly thrown way, to put your valuables in. For me I have learned the hard way " Don't do to a spa when you are stressed and can't play attention." It truly ruined a great day and weekend.

Yelp
The good: Beautiful location, nice selection of products and services, friendly staff. It was easy to make an appointment and they were very accommodating, considering our trip as last minute and we were scheduling multiple services. The "just ok:" The facilities just a bit dated- no whirlpool as was mentioned by another reviewer. The pedicure was WAY OVER PRICED for what was done. It was a lovely pedicure, but for $75 before tip I guess I was just hoping for more than your standard strip mall experience. The woman who did the pedicure was wonderful, just wasn't as luxurious as I'd hoped. However...the facial was AMAZING. I felt totally pampered and beautiful when I left.

Yelp
Masseuse gave deep tissue as asked and the facilities were clean with a relaxing ambience. Highly recommend. Wishing walking distance from the Hilton next door.

Yelp
My second time here and I must say I really enjoy this place. My go to spot for pedicures now, and love the facials as well. Great way to relax and get away from the outside world.

Yelp
I came here with a group of girls this last weekend and we had a great experience. The manicurists are incredibly sweet and were a joy to chat with. The pool was very relaxing with the exception of the large group of drunk girls singing along to the Beyonce songs they were blasting from their own speakers. I will definitely be coming back here the next time a spa day is in the cards, but I'll cross my fingers that there is a different crowd hanging out by the pool.

Yelp
I had an 80 minute massage there at 3pm on Sunday November 4th and I still can't get the bad feelings to go away. I've never in my life written a bad yelp review or a bad review of anything but this needs to be said. It was way too expensive to let it go. The price was equal to Canyon Ranch but the experience was horrible where Canyon Ranch is extraordinary. I'll start with the masseuse. I can't believe she actually had a license. I don't know her name but she had longish brown hair and was maybe Eastern European. I've had over 500 massages in my lifetime and this was not what a massage should be like. I tried to talk to her and give feedback to make it better to no avail. She broke contact constantly and spent time doing bizarre things like plucking my toenails. The only thing that she did that felt remotely good was on my knees, a strange movement no one else has ever done, but was ok. That was the only 2 minutes of the 80 minutes that wasn't awful. At the end, she twisted my neck in such a way I got a muscle spasm that was excruciating. I left in so much pain and suffered the rest of the night completely in a massive muscle spasm. The whole experience... was worse...I enjoy having a glass of wine to relax before a massage. When I arrived, the concierge directed me to the bar to get a glass of wine to bring to the spa. The bartender poured me the wine and directed me to the spa. So I walked to the spa with my glass of wine, and when I entered the desk girl never even made eye contact. She was on the phone for awhile, and when she hung up, even though I was standing right in front of her, she stood up without looking at me and went to help a woman looking at clothing in their gift shop there. Finally, when she came to me, she looked at me like I was a criminal and told me I couldn't have wine there. I explained that the concierge and the bartender both knew I was going to the spa and never informed me of such a rule. She went and got me a disposable plastic cup and had me pour my $16 glass of wine into it. I asked "is it because you don't allow glass in the spa area?" she said no, its so that no one knows you're drinking wine. It tasted so gross in a plastic cup I threw it out. I shook it off and went to enjoy my fluffy robe and steam room I had arrived 30 minutes early to enjoy, as instructed when I made the appointment. The dressing room was airconditioned cold, and I went to the steam room excited to get warm. The LCD on the outside of the steam room said 104 degrees. I was happy. I opened the door and went in...it was like cold fog. Steamy yet cold, bizarre. I went out to find someone (butt naked, grabbed my robe, so didn't venture very far but couldn't find anyone) and I went back in hoping it would warm up. I looked for controls, anything to get warm. I saw a rain shower shower head in the steam room and thought "yay" hot water. I turned it on and it was cold water only (probably a great thing to cool off with in a hot steam room but just awful under the circumstances. I gave up and went for the showers hoping a hot shower would do the trick. There was no hot water. I tried 3 different showers and none of them had hot water, just lukewarm/cool. At this point I was shivering(I hate being cold) and gave up, put my robe on and went to the relaxation room. I sat in front of the fake fireplace that provided no heat, found a blanket and bundled up trying to get warm, still no employees around to help. A woman arrived, personality as cold as ice and called my name. She asked how I was from the other end of the room (never coming near me from the doorway she opened). I said I was cold and should I bring the blanket with me to the massage room or did they have blankets in the room. She did not say a word, just stuck out her hand in a robotic like handshake from 15 feet away. It was surreal and creepy, but i got up and went to her shook her hand and she gave me the coldest handshake, turned her back on me and walked toward the massage room without speaking. I could only hope that the massage would make it all better. Unfortunately, the next 80 minutes was being poked and proded in a way no massage in my life has ever been.I truly question whether she has a massage training or a license! I tried the showers after my massage and there was hot water so they must have run out of hot water and fixed the problem. Unfortunately it did not fix my neck and I left in so much pain I went home and put ice packs on my neck and had to cancel my date for that night because the pain left me unable to function. $160 to have my day and night ruined. How does this place have such good ratings? P.S. if the owner/manager reads this, feel free to contact me for more info because you should make some changes in your customer service training and your masseuse quality control.

Yelp
Wow, just had the most amazing spa experience ever, and I have been to some of best! This quiet spa spa and the best of the best! My ginger lime scrub and Vichy shower with Ester was just amazing...relaxing and hydrating. Perfect way to prep for my massage. Came for a quiet visit with so much stress and tension in my shoulder and upper back. During the treatment kept hoping Ester would be my masseuse. Lucky me, just had the BEST massage I have ever had and left feeling lighter and more relaxed than I have in years. She was attentive to my needs, kept asking if I was okay but otherwise let me have an out of body experience! Highly recommend this spa and hotel, but more, 5+ stars to Ester who I over tipped happily!!

Yelp
The facilities are great and seem to be a great environment to relax, but there were staff members constantly in and out of all of the rooms which meant they were in and out of doors that slammed, making it difficult to just relax! The manicure and pedicure were just okay. My manicure didn't even last 4 days, so I was quite disappointed with that especially considering the price that was paid for the service! I have paid a fraction of the cost elsewhere and had my manicure last a minimum of a week and a half. Four days is kind of ridiculous to have to go and get them done again. Not to mention, all that was done was filing and polish. I thought that they would at least tend to the cuticles and do a hand massage but I did not receive either which was also disappointing. I would never go back for nail services, but will try out the spa again for a massage or something of the sort as it is right up the road from me. Hopefully it will be a better experience!

Yelp
First I will comment on the spa itself.... It's inside the hotel, I didn't know this, parked and just wandered until I saw a door leading inside, figured I would find someone to ask... That level said "spa level" so I figured I was near the spa but after going in circles I hadn't found it. I saw maid who kindly directed me to go down one floor so apparently the spa level ISN'T the spa level at all haha. Finally find the spa, front desk girl very chipper, gives me a tour and gives me a locker, she was a+. I got on my robe and went the waiting/relaxation area. Honestly it seemed rather sterile, not very inviting, no plush chairs just stiff ones. There was some spa water and snacks. I "relaxed" for a moment and then my esthetician found me, she spoke so loudly I was startled. She took me to the treatment room which was right by the relaxation room door. The room was so bland. Just a bed and equipment. The bed was ok, warm at least... Ok now about my facial, I had the 50 min reveal, the one that has the glycolic acid peel. Using no steam she cleansed only once (typically all the facials I've had always had 2 cleanses), the cleanser was ice cold. Next she said she was applying the peel and that it was a 30% glycolic acid, she said she would leave It on 5 mins, I felt that was short but perhaps it was strong? Anyways it was another ice cold product, I was pretty cold! I felt nothing with the peel, no tingle or anything... She wiped it off then applied an ice cold mask. Wiped that off and did a very brief massage I think but that product was cold too and the massage was NOT relaxing at all. She was very noisy too clanking things around opening and closing caninets, just loud. even her voice was loud and not "spa" at all. She did do an ok hand treatment... So almost zero massage or extractions and 3 icey cold products applied in the same robotic way cost me a cool $140 plus tip... Yowza. I'd say it was worth $50, maybe... Their price just isn't justified at all. I wouldn't go back.
