This is the perfect place for a tea party! I loved every minute and every bite of this experience! We had the Royal Tea. The sandwiches were delicious. The queen Elizabeth tea was amazing. We had to get some to take home. The baked goods were amazing (except for the Shortbread. I usually love Shortbread, but I didn't care for this one.) The scones are so good with the lemon curd and Chantilly cream. The restaurant is in a historic home and it's just adorable. We enjoyed our experience so much, and we can't wait to take our granddaughters back for another real-life tea party! I highly recommend this tea room. I was very impressed!

We had the absolute pleasure of visiting a charming tea house called The Spicery in Our 1895 Home, nestled in the heart of Glendale, Arizona. It was a beautiful experience that I just had to share! 🫖💐 From the moment we stepped on the porch, there was comforting aromas of homemade goods 😋. The ambiance was elegant yet cozy, with antique touches. I enjoyed a beautifully presented afternoon tea service with delicate finger sandwiches, warm scones (yes, with clotted cream & jam!), and a selection of desserts, which we were too full to eat 😔. My tea of choice, the Caramel Almond Fruit—so warming, perfect for fall and winter but can be enjoyed now!!! If you ever find yourself in the Glendale area, I highly recommend giving The Spicery a visit. It’s more than just a tea house—it’s an experience filled with charm, tradition, and history!

The Spicery in Our 1895 Home – A Hidden Gem in Historic Glendale A sweet client introduced me to The Spicery Tea Room, and I’ve been in love with it ever since. Tucked away in the heart of historic downtown Glendale, this charming spot is full of character and warmth. The building itself tells a story, and the kind, welcoming staff make every visit feel like a special occasion. The food is delightful—simple, fresh, and comforting—and the atmosphere is perfect for catching up with friends, enjoying a quiet afternoon, or just treating yourself to something special. Downtown Glendale adds to the magic. With its adorable shops and seasonal events, you can easily turn your visit into a mini adventure. I especially love the charm bracelet activity—each shop offers a little charm during events, and it’s such a fun and creative way to explore the area. If you’re looking for a cozy, nostalgic experience with great tea and heartfelt hospitality, The Spicery is an absolute must.

My husband and I had a great time today for the Royal tea brunch. Our waitress Lisa was so kind and thoughtful and I honestly cannot recommend this charming little spot more! Delicious food and tea!

Google
Such a lovely experience! I had the adult tea with the three-course option and added the salad, which was absolutely delicious—fresh greens topped with strawberries, candied nuts, and a light strawberry vinaigrette. All of the small bites and treats were beautifully prepared, fresh, and full of flavor. Highly recommend!

Soo fun and the service was beyond perfect. The food was very good and the desserts were extra amazing! The teas were perfect. I got the royal tea and my brother got the duchess! My brother and I had a great time and I can't wait to take my Mom here

This place was great. They offer a great variety of tea and pastries. We got one of the ADULT TEA packages, which come with tea & pastries.

Yelp
The original tearoom of Glendale is a must visit if you are a tea or an afternoon tea person. It is worth the short drive from Phoenix. This historic home is charming from the outside and right on the corner. You will not miss it. They have a small parking area. We were picked up and dropped off by ride share and had no issues. I strongly suggest reservations. We went on a Saturday at 12. They were busy. We had no issues, I made a reservation. Everyone that came had one. The house has limited seating. You may be able to luck up, walk in, and they could accommodate you. I enjoyed the Royal Tea. This does require reservations. They need two day notice. It comes with the three course tea service, soup, salad, and of course tea. I suggest coming hungry if you do this service. It is a good bit of food. It is great bang for your buck! The service was great. Each person we met was friendly. Our server was kind and helpful. She would keep our tea pots full. If she was busy another server would help her out. I would definitely suggest The Spicery.

Yelp
The Spicery Restaurant @1895spicery , truly "Glendale, Arizona's Original Tearoom" is on the National Registry of Historic Places, being built in 1895, and has had only 5 owners since. This delightful spot is exactly what I imagine when I think of a tea room or high tea. It has everything from the old Victorian-style decor and fine dish ware, friendly staff who love the tea house like their own home and freely give tours to us customers, delicious lunch service, desserts, and house made tea blends, and a friendly ghost to boot! Considering the aesthetic and charm of this authentic Victorian home, I assumed the prices would be high. Not so! prices are incredibly affordable. I had lunch today and I can't wait to return to have high tea with family and friends! I ordered: - CHEF MATT'S SPECIAL OF THE DAY: Grilled Chicken Sandwich with Swiss cheese, bacon, avocado, balsamic glazed onions, sliced tomato & curly leaf lettuce on a sweet brioche bun - with Soup of the Day, cream of Mushroom and Broccoli - Small pot of herbal tea: CARAMEL ALMOND FRUIT (Dried apple bits, almond, cinnamon, beetroot, and caramel flavoring) - Bread Pudding dessert just out of the oven! Located in Catlin Court historic district, the oldest neighborhood in Glendale, and surrounded by several charming shops and businesses to make this a very pleasant walkable neighborhood on a weekend or break, The Spicery is an excellent spot to take your crew for brunch lunch or high tea. There are four separate rooms each with its own theme to choose from. Gender neutral bathrooms located throughout the house. There's also a garden patio where retired teacups are lovingly hung from the trellis to complete their life. Many of these tea cups are donated by patrons from family estates, making the view a sentimental one.

Yelp
Making a reservation was easy. I enjoyed the 3-course tea in this beautiful house, which is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. They have different theme rooms where you can enjoy lunch or tea - there's a rose room, a blue room, a pink room, a Victorian tea room, a Library, and a Garden area. They have vegetarian options at no extra cost, you just need to let them know ahead of time. The tea was delicious, they have a long list of options including both caffeinated and decaf teas. I had the caramel almond fruit and it was really yummy. You can add a salad and/or soup for a small fee. The salad they had on the day I went had lots of strawberries, feta, tons of candied pecans and a great raspberry vinaigrette. Everything was delicious, the food was plentiful and you will not leave hungry. You can go shopping afterwards, there are cute shops right next to the house. The yellow shop has the same owners as the Spicery and has 9 theme rooms (including a really cute Christmas room with Christmas music playing in it).

Yelp
Such an adorable tea house and cafe! I was by myself just touring the historic downtown area of Glendale and stopped for lunch. I had no trouble getting a table, and my server Beth was awesome! I'm from North Carolina and she made me feel like I was back in the friendly south! I had the quiche and it was probably the best quiche I've ever had. Light and flavorful (why don't my quiche attempts ever turn out that good??). Had a lovely experience and highly recommend this cute cafe.

Yelp
We've been to a few tea houses and this is our favorite! Everyone is so polite and kind and the food was equally amazing! They have such a cute little home. This is a must try experience or tradition that should keep you coming back! I know we do.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
The adult tea was so much fun! Each course tasted so AMAZING and made fresh! We were able to try 3 different teas. 1st course was finger sandwiches, 2nd course soup, 3rd course was salad, 4th course were the breads, lastly the 5th course was the deserts. They were able to cater to my sister's hyper sensitive food allergies and celiac issues. Our server Whitney was so kind. She even had a candle in one of my deserts for me to make a wish for my celebration! The dishes were so cute and delicate! I love the historical house The Spicery is in! I highly recommend this place!!!

Yelp
Today had a fantastic delicious lunch at the quaint Spicery Tea Room. Such friendly staff and great place to relax and enjoy a meal when in Glendale. The food was quality and delicious.

Yelp
Absolutely adorable! Located near downtown Glendale and set in a 1895 home it has it all, charm, history and food! Having being located in an old house it is relatively small so definitely make reservations. The staff including the owner are sooo sweet and efficient! I had the quiche of the day which was cheddar and bacon and instead of a side salad I opted for the soup of the day broccoli my favorite! The quiche was flavorful and filling with good chunks of bacon inside, broccoli soup while not as thick as I like but it was amazing! Great flavor and nice pieces of broccoli and carrots my mom had the vegetable mozzarella quiche and really enjoyed it. She goes once a week to pick up a bag of their custom tea for her morning tea the blend she likes she says it's incredible soooo glad I tagged along this trip! I am 1000% going back!

Yelp
This tea place is an absolute gem! From the moment you step inside, the charming atmosphere makes you feel like you've entered a cozy, retreat. The tea selection is fantastic! But the real stars of the show are the treats! The chantilly cream is light and dreamy, the lemon curd is perfectly tangy and smooth, and the shortbread melts in your mouth. To top it all off, the service is warm and attentive, making the experience even more delightful. If you're looking for a lovely place to relax and indulge in amazing tea and treats, this is it! We have tried others and the Spicery is the BEST!

Yelp
What a wonderful experience this was from the calling to reserve a table to being there. It's the cutest house and be sure to see all of it, not just the room they seat you in. The food and tea were excellent. It was great service as well. My friend and I celebrated her birthday and we both had a difference quiche. And and DO NOT say no to dessert. Ample enough portion for two. I want to return and do the full tea service at some point. Just a great overall experience!

Yelp
The house was quaint and beautiful from the outside, giving tea vibes for sure. The inside was huge and spacious with cute decorations such as floral plates, styled tea pots, books, and bird statues. The tableware was elegant and tea cups adorable. The staff were very kind and welcoming, they definitely make the tea party a wonderful experience. Everything is homemade and absolutely delicious! My favorite was the scone with chantilly cream and lemon curd. My favorite tea was the jasmine pearl. Out of the whole experience, I do wish the salad was more savory to balance the sweetness and the parfait had more fruit. Overall, the tea party was splendid and everything tasted amazing! P.S. the menu is not updated so the sale, soup, and sandwiches supplied might be different.

Yelp
It was perfect and always for my 68th birthday with all my sisters! I remember back in the 80s when I used to take my mother-in-law there and we had such a grand time! Now I'm taking my granddaughters and they'll always remember it as well....

Yelp
Yesterday, daughter reserved a reservation for the Three Course Tea Experience for my birthday. We were seated immediately by the friendly hostess. Our pleasant server arrived shortly after and took our order. Unfortunately, they were short staffed so each of our courses were slow in arrival. Thankfully we were not in a rush; we arrived at noon and left at 2:30. The food was tasty but in small amounts. The tearoom is an enjoyable experience and I would highly recommend everyone giving this historic restaurant a try!

Yelp
I'm sorry to say The Spicery will be closing their doors. We were able to get one of few last reservations remaining before they closed for good. Their tea selection wasn't as extensive as others but ones we had were really good. The three set course we had were all good. There were few favorites from each course. The tuna sandwich, cucumber sprouts sandwich, chocolate strawberry, and lemon bar were my favorites. I'm glad I had the chance to experience The Spicery. Thank you!

Yelp
Today my Father and two young Great Nieces dropped in for lunch and cream tea service. The establishment is charming and definitely fills up without a reservation. We came on a Tuesday at 11 am, when we left it was fairly well filled up. I was able to make a last minute reservation with gluten free request. We started with the cream tea which was delicious gf and regular. The girls split the Children's sampler as I knew after scones and short bread, they'd be getting filled up. Dad had the garden quiche. I had the avocado, walnut, alfalfa sprout sandwich which was delicious. We really enjoyed the food. The ambiance is darling! Our server was knowledgeable about gf and the overall menu as well. She suggested a cinnamon based pink tea which the girls loved! I felt the prices were reasonable and will definitely be back.

Yelp
We just left Christmas in July and it was so fun! They had cute little gift bags with the Christmas tea and a very cute themed shortbread cookie. The staff here are very friendly. The service was a tad slow but to be expected considering the special event. Our family has been going to the tea house for years and as much as I love the ambiance, the food isn't as good as it used to be with the old management. I have food sensitivities so was bummed that I couldn't drink the holiday tea or eat the quiche. We were told on the phone when we reserved that they don't make accommodations so that was weird.
google avatar

Alyssa W.

Yelp
Our family has been going here for years. We were excited for the Christmas in July tea event. The servers are very nice and the tea house is super cute. A little slow service, but to be expected for an event. Some of the recipes are different from the previous ownership and I miss some of the OG recipes. I was told on the phone that the food allergies in our party wouldn't really be substituted and we would have to trade sandwiches there. But then as we were finishing the sandwich course, the server said we should have said we had an allergy....it was confusing. Still really like going with family though.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Our first time here. We had the Royal Tea. It was delicious and homemade. We liked the way it was paced so not everything at once. The service was EXCELLENT!! They are so nice and helpful and constantly checking on you!! It was decorated so cute!! Beautiful decor and and the tea cups and etc made it so peaceful and relaxing! Thank you so much!! We will be back in October for my birthday!!

Food C.

Yelp
Everything was lovely. The house was quaint and charming. The staff were excellent! We (3) had a fun birthday experience. The food was great. The Scones and Queen Elizabeth tea were the best ever. We bought extra to take home. The Chantilly and lemon curd was the best i ever had. The sandwiches were great as well. I have one small critique... The scones came first, i filled up quickly on the sweets and didn't have room for the sandwiches. With Proper traditional tea , all comes at once and you eat from the bottom (savory) to top , Scones (middle tier) and sweets (top tier) When i go back, I'll ask for savory first.
google avatar

Yelp
Everything I repeat Everything is wonderful. The tea, homemade roll, sandwich, quiche, salads etc.. The old house is gorgeous I had a baby shower here it was the perfect location. All 12 ladies enjoyed their meals and Promised to come back. After lunch walk around and enjoy Historic Glendale.

Joni G.

Yelp
The cutest little tea house. We took my granddaughter and friend for the tea and tea sandwiches. Delicious.

Teresa C.

Yelp
This was our third visit to enjoy a special Tea service. As always the staff members were so welcoming and the atmosphere was very comfortable! The food items were homemade and yummy! Our server, Beth Ann, was a delight! She treated us with great attention! And she took time to tell the two young girls who were with us all about the history of the house where The Spicery is located and about the room where we were seated. She even let the girls take a selfie with her! Thank you all for a wonderful experience!
google avatar

Trinity H.

Yelp
Place was so so cute and our service was amazing, call to double check for the vegetarian options tho! I definitely wanna come back and try the course meal /tea option.

Yelp
The ambience was great! Our waitress and the hostess were great! Everyone was so friendly and they get five stars! The food this time though was so not good and I was really disappointed. I have been here in the past and was raving the whole way to the restaurant to my family about how The Spicery has THE best chicken salad sandwich. This time, however, it was awful. I put a lot of salt on to try to mask the taste and ate it down. The fries were really good. My husband did not like the chef special so much that he ate a few bites and got a doggy bag to bring it home, but ended up just throwing it away bc he didn't like it. His Mom got the same chef special and she said hers was "just okay." My first visit a few months ago left me raving with five stars and telling others how much I love it. This time though, I was not happy and said something to the waitress. The food was reaaaaallly lacking this weekend. Not sure why it changed so much but we all left feeling disappointed and went to another restaurant later that night and that made up for the lunch that was blah. I don't like leaving negative reviews, especially when the staff was so incredible, but someone pointed out to me that negative reviews are just as important as positive ones bc growth can happen from them. For this visit, I give two stars. The wait staff (I can't remember her name but the sweet, bubbly redhead) was a doll! We all really loved her bc she has great customer service and really went above and beyond to make sure we had a great service experience and was very friendly. The hostess at the front was also incredibly nice. The one food item that was amazing was the cheesecake! So good!

Yelp
For you Tea Lovers out there, this is an interesting place and well worth the visit. My wife visited for the first time and enjoyed their Christmas in July Tea offering. The 1895 built and later extended cottage has become an intriguing labyrinth, a maze of quaintly ornate, adorned, and decorated tea rooms. Seeing this old home from outside then stepping in kind of feels like you are venturing into an Alice in Wonderland web. They're tea bite offerings were pretty good, especially the Confetti Shortbread, the Raspberry Chantilly, the Caprese, the Chicken Salad, Quiche Lorraine, and the Cranberry Turkey, just to mention a few. What unique about The Spicery is the different events available especially for little girls, making their Tea Parties real, they include: Lovely Princess Tea; Mad Tea Party; Arabian Nights Tea; Witches and Wizards Tea; and more. Kudos to Bud and Lorraine Zomok, Sue Berntsen and Kenn Zomok for doing such an exceptional job in keeping such a tradition alive.
google avatar

Mb M.

Yelp
Very nice lunch menu and plan ahead 2 days to order the tea menu. Lovely atmosphere, cute tea house built in 1895. Friendly staff and they don't rush you out. Relax and enjoy nice variety of hot or iced tea. Scones and sweets are delicious as was the chef's special salad of the day. Boutiques within walking distance to round out your afternoon in downtown Glendale. Been here a number of times and will be back!

Brenda K.

Yelp
1st time to this adorable place. We did not have a reservation ( I recommend you make one ) they were still able to accommodate the 2 of us. This was a very popular place, and it was mid week. I had the salad of the day, which was certainly large enough to share. It was full of chicken, nuts, avocados, tomatoes, and cucumbers. All the good stuff. It came with a large homemade yeast roll. There are too many teas to choose from, so I did the flavored ice tea. Great choice. We finished the meal by sharing a cream puff. Great meal, great service.
google avatar

Vicky E.

Yelp
We took my 4 year old granddaughter for her birthday. She absolutely loved it! Everyone was so nice and service was excellent. Food was good . The reason I only gave 4 out of 5 stars was the ticket prices. $35 for an adult and $45 for kids. I felt like that was a bit high for what they provided. I would definitely recommend this for the youngsters.
google avatar

Betsy D.

Yelp
I want to thank Lorraine, Joy, Bud, Maria and the entire team for making our afternoon special. The tea was outstanding, the food delicious and ambiance perfect. The afternoon was perfect thanks to the team! We will be back no doubt! Be absolute sure to save room to stop over next door!

Yelp
Went with my husband for their valentines event. We enjoyed it, the employees where great and friendly and the food was delicious. Can't wait to go back

Rhonda M.

Yelp
Visiting The Spicery is a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. The ambiance is reminiscent of a past long gone, with excellent food, and great customer service. Also, don't forget to visit the shops close by before or after your meal. You'll find delightful treasures for yourself or as a gift.

Mel R.

Yelp
The Most AMAZING Resturant for a special day or anytime! Home made food and Rolls to die for! The friendliest owners and staff! I feel at home when I go there! Been going there for about 40 years it's Wonderful!! It's a darling cozy house in Glendale. It's my FAVORITE restaurant!!

Hank M.

Yelp
What a "GEM". Having a proper Tea House in such a beautiful and historic home is so unexpected in Phoenix. It is a such a delightful respite from the ordinary ... which is on every street corner. The ambiance which is inviting and enjoyable is eclipsed by both the tea/food and the lovely people - amazing! Proprietors Bud, Lorraine, and Sue see to it that your time there is a remarkable experience, one that you enjoy in the moment, one that you will remember and one that you will want to experience again! Treat yourself, go pay them a visit and indulge in all the wonders of The Spicery!

Fay E.

Yelp
Excellent food, service, and setting. Tearoom perfect with books and porcelain cups and saucers. Varied menu. Friendly hostess, waiter, and owners. Nearby shops are good for browsing unique wares.

Yelp
What a cute, quaint place to have afternoon tea. The house was so cute, and the food with afternoon tea was delicious. I took my mom to London where we had an afternoon tea lesson and later went to one of the fancy afternoon teas, so I wanted to take her for afternoon tea here in AZ. Afternoon tea is a set menu, so sit down and have a nice cuppa tea and have delicious treats. I was surprised that they used tea bags and not loose leaf tea with strainer for it to be more authentic. The scones and shortbread were amazing. The custard was ridiculously good. I couldn't put my spoon down until it was gone. We're already planning to go back. 5 stars for everything: food, ambiance, and service.
google avatar

Wyatt H.

Yelp
This is a place where a reservation is almost required. Every time we go in it's packed, but there's good reason! The inside is gorgeous and the food and teas are tasty. Paired, with friendly and knowledgeable staff, it's certainly worth a visit.
google avatar

Cathy C.

Yelp
So beautiful, so quaint, and excellent customer service. The food is also excellent!!! Great for birthday or theme parties.

Yelp
Haven't been here for 25 years and we will definitely be back very soon! We always forget about going to Old Town Glendale and it's a shame because it's so charming and the shop owners are all so friendly and the shops are filled with treasures. The real treasure is this restaurant where tea party dreams come to life. We did a 3 generation lunch date a chose the actual tea service which they have for adults and another set of selections for the kids. We ALL loved it! Starts with a tea of your choice that they bring in a cute tea pot and each one is unique. Then a tray of scones, cream and lemon curd. The kids had a beautiful fruit tray and cream. Next was an assortment of finger sandwiches which were yummy and for the ending fabulous mini desserts which were all homemade and SO good! We had a reservation and I would recommend having one. Right now the whole place is adorned with Christmas decor and is so cozy!

Yelp
This location is a wonderful place to host a small intimate baby shower. The owner went above and beyond to be helpful and accommodating. She and her employees were very nice to work with. The tea, food and price were awesome. I look forward to returning for another tea service.

Yelp
Bridget was amazing and so sweet! The food was amazing and everyone was very welcoming. Highly recommend coming

Yelp
Took my two daughters recently , it's was a great concept, but I feel it could be tweaked . Love to see some tea samples , that way when you order the large pot , your enjoying a flavor u love after sampling some new ideas. Love to skip the sweet scones and shortbread with tasty spreads AFTER we enjoy the delicious mini sandwiches. Took away my appetite having those first. The deserts were good, but room for some improvement. The decor was sweet and very inviting, the outdoors could use some attention , fresh flowering plants and dead vegetation removed.
google avatar

Laura F.

Yelp
We came here today to scope a location for my Alice in Wonderland themed baby shower. The owner Matt was super helpful and nice and the waitress (whose name I didn't catch) was also very friendly and helpful. It's absolutely ADORABLE inside!! I love all the decor and the ambiance. I got the Queen Elizabeth tea which was absolutely delicious, hubby got the chocolate caramel which was also good, but mine was better. We started with the bread course of scones and shortbread with lemon curd and chantilly cream which was an absolute must have!! I'd head back just for the tea and scones honestly, it was that good! Hubby and I each got a quiche and a salad. He got the Italian ham quiche and I got the veggie. Both were yummy but I think the Italian ham one was more flavorful. The bread it was served with reminded me of a combination of challah bread and Hawaiian sweet rolls, really good! We got dessert to go since I was unfortunately already stuffed. The lemon chess pie was really good but I think the walnut pineapple cake was better since it was a bit sweeter. Overall a really great experience and really a great spot that you should definitely check out when you're in downtown Glendale!

Julie S.

Yelp
What an amazing experience. The home has been restored so lovely. The ladies serving are so sweet. The food was amazing and it was a fabulous experience.

Donna W.

Yelp
Loved the decor, service was good And special was just okay , not a favorite of mine.

Yelp
I made reservations ahead. Arrived on time however No sign out front had to park and ask where it was. The man (host if you will) Rude loud never turned in our order. He was training someone. She was sweet. Mary I think. Rushed us to eat fast. Bread stale on sandwiches. Chipped spouts on teapots. Told table behind us how to spend her gift card and it wasn't at his place. Not worth the money. Give me English Rose Tea Room anytime....
google avatar

Deanna M.

Yelp
I recently held a small event there for my personal business. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The location was perfect and provided a small, comfortable setting that I desired for my event. I hope to hold another event soon. If you are wanting to take a small group, don't wait to call!!! They book up quickly.

Debra U.

Yelp
The Spicery always delivers Great quality, personal service and wonderful atmosphere. My friend had the tuna salad with crisp fresh veggies and I had the chicken salad with lots of fresh fruit. Both dishes were wonderful and the tea service is just special.
google avatar

Lia L.

Yelp
It's an adorable place with very good food and I will definitely be back again to give them that extra star. The only reason for 4 stars is because I booked my small bridal shower with the Royal tea a month before the date. They called me the day before to confirm my party size and that we were still coming. The day of they said they didn't have enough of the royal tea for my party and then proceeded to say I called you yesterday to confirm but you didn't say you were doing royal tea. I did tell them I wasn't aware I needed to go through my food selection again and if that is a requirement they should just ask people what they had them down for. So a little embarrassing and it kind of got worked out but I wish it had been smoother.

Has such a great lunch! We were able to make a last minute reservation and we are so thankful we could. We were greeted warmly as soon as we walked in and shown to our table. We were surrounded by such cute antiques and knickknacks. I had the quiche which was delicious and it came with a side salad and we shared a few small pots of tea. I'm usually just a green tea drinker but decided to be adventurous and am sure glad I did. There was a caramel tea which was amazing. I never thought I would have been a fan. We also shared a cream puff for dessert which was huge! We will return for Mother's Day weekend and I already can't wait.
