The Spicery Restaurant @1895spicery , truly "Glendale, Arizona's Original Tearoom" is on the National Registry of Historic Places, being built in 1895, and has had only 5 owners since.
This delightful spot is exactly what I imagine when I think of a tea room or high tea. It has everything from the old Victorian-style decor and fine dish ware, friendly staff who love the tea house like their own home and freely give tours to us customers, delicious lunch service, desserts, and house made tea blends, and a friendly ghost to boot! Considering the aesthetic and charm of this authentic Victorian home, I assumed the prices would be high. Not so! prices are incredibly affordable. I had lunch today and I can't wait to return to have high tea with family and friends! I ordered:
- CHEF MATT'S SPECIAL OF THE DAY: Grilled Chicken Sandwich with Swiss cheese, bacon, avocado, balsamic glazed onions, sliced tomato & curly leaf lettuce on a sweet brioche bun
- with Soup of the Day, cream of Mushroom and Broccoli
- Small pot of herbal tea: CARAMEL ALMOND FRUIT (Dried apple bits, almond, cinnamon, beetroot, and caramel flavoring)
- Bread Pudding dessert just out of the oven!
Located in Catlin Court historic district, the oldest neighborhood in Glendale, and surrounded by several charming shops and businesses to make this a very pleasant walkable neighborhood on a weekend or break, The Spicery is an excellent spot to take your crew for brunch lunch or high tea. There are four separate rooms each with its own theme to choose from. Gender neutral bathrooms located throughout the house. There's also a garden patio where retired teacups are lovingly hung from the trellis to complete their life. Many of these tea cups are donated by patrons from family estates, making the view a sentimental one.
