This had been on my list to pop in for a while, but it was a hard sell going all the way out there just for that, when they only make 2 things so far. But it'd been on my list if I was ever in the area, which I was yesterday, and it is a super cool place. I'm glad it's free to taste, because it'd be an even harder sell paying to just taste 2 things, but I have to say, that is some fantastic gin and vodka. You only get a splash, obviously, but the point isn't getting drunk, it's to taste quality, and it is very much quality. I'm always sad when vodka says it's made from something interesting, but just tastes like vodka - theirs isn't that. It's very smooth, but still definitely has a noticeable (subtle, but noticeable) hint of the clementine oranges it's distilled from. The gin, on the other hand, is in your face with the oranges, as it's made with, among other things, a big pile of citrus peel. It is very bright, with a lot of flavor, and surprisingly smooth given that it's also 94 proof. I already have a ton of good gins, but when I run out of one of them, this might be the next one I buy.
They also sell some really great shrubs, though sadly, they only had one of them open for tastings, so I just assume the others were probably also great given that the one I tried was. (They don't make the shrub themselves, it comes from somewhere in norcal, though I believe he said it was made by a company owned by a family member, and definitely still craft.)
Also, the person pouring when I was there was one of the owners - that's always cool, getting to chat with the people who actually make the stuff, especially when their product is this good. Neat guy, too.
