We love SG so much! Our go to spot for all things wine, beer, and cheese! The staff is so friendly & knowledgeable. We look forward to the tastings each week and always buy a bottle- it never disappoints! They also have amazing sandwiches, my favorite is the caprese on ciabatta with prosciutto!! 😋

Google
Web searching local champagnes lead me here and first time visiting. Very nice wine and cheese and more. Very nice and wide selection of RM growers Champagnes, largest I have seen around here. Impressive. Was able to talk with the kind and knowledgeable in-house wine guru, and heard some nice recommendations of Blanc de Noirs, and picked Eric Rodez Brut Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs for a special celebration. Enjoying every gold drop of it. Thank you very much for the recommendation! Will definitely visit again for another Blanc de Noir bottle.

Love this place. Delicious sandwiches, specialty selection and nice staff. The wine tastings are fun! I’ve gotten several “too good to go” bags for only $10. Check out the app if you haven’t heard of it!

We stopped by before close on a Sunday evening and were so glad we did! The staff were very helpful and friendly with any questions we had. We’re moving to the neighborhood soon and are so excited to continue frequenting The Spirited Gourmet!

A foodie paradise. Amazing cheese. Great wine and beer selection. A nice selection of sauces, spices and snacks. Knowledgeable staff. They also make great sandwiches!

Google
Olive oil and balsamic on tap! Had the most amazing bread roll from here. Delicious cheese and cracker selection too. Come here for all your charcuterie needs!

Google
I purchased from too good to go. I received an expired chocolate and a stale bread. I asked the store clerk about the chocolate and she refused to provide a non expired item. She said they always give items that are beyond "sell by" on too good to go. It's heartbreaking to see business miss representing what too good to go should be: serve meals (not expired) to people in need, save food and be generous to others. I can only wish this place will as successful as their stale bread they offer to people. Definitely never going back there.

Google
This place is a neighborhood gem. A friendly and knowledgeable staff, incredible selection of carefully curated wines, great in store events; Laura, the manager, sets the tone, and it is a warm inviting place. The sandwiches are amazing. The Tom Tom is my go to comfort food, it is layered with plenty of fresh arugula which gives it such great texture. You can tell they take care to get it right. I love the assortment of delicacies they offer. And you can’t go wrong with their custom gift baskets. I love supporting local businesses and this is one of my favorites by far!

Yelp
Very charming wine and nibbles store! They do monthly free wine tastings where you get to try up to 12 different wines (first Friday, 5-7pm), explained by people who know and are passionate about the humble grape; my palate isn't great when it comes to wine but I do appreciate the samples of cheese and meat they put out as well. Besides wine, they also have other alcohol (sake, beer), a ton of cheeses, crackers, everything to assemble your own charcuterie board, including yuzu olive oil! I'll have to come back and try their deli counter, their grilled cheese sandwiches looked amazing.

Yelp
Super cute store and very passionate, friendly staff. We ordered 11 sandwiches and 2 salads for a small lunch party. The prices are VERY steep (this ran us ~$250 with tip), but the quality is there. The bread is delicious. Everything is crafted with love. Would love to come back and chat cheese and wine on a rainy afternoon and leave with something I never would've picked myself. So this probably isn't a weekly visit type of place budget-wise, but you're definitely in good hands when you go.

Yelp
I agree with all the positive reviews about the wine, food and service, however, there is one thing that drives me out every time I go there: The music is way too loud! I often cut my visit short, just because after few minutes I find it unbearable. It is a shame because they have lots of good things and if they were to keep the volume down, I would stay longer and buy more stuff from them. I wish they could just get rid of this ambient noise and play nothing just like at the WineCask in Cambridge-Another excellent place. If the owner reads this feedback, please ask around and maybe you may find out I am not the only one.

Yelp
Excellent gourmet sandwiches. I had the figgy piggy today- with prosciutto, arugula, and fig jam. I've also had the caprese, which has a nice pesto. I've heard the grilled cheeses are also really good. Truffle potato chips are a lovely add-on.

Yelp
Let me start by saying, it is not often that I get to rate many of my reviews with 5 stars but when I get to it's hard to write about because my excitement takes over and it's hard to focus on what to tell you first. I'll start from the beginning. I legit live 2 minutes away from this location and this is the first time my GPS search for a liquor store brought it up. My drink preference is wine for all and any occasion so this place was perfect. I literally walked in cheesy and unable to act like an adult, my exact words walking in was "I feel like I've walked into heaven" Yes, I said this out loud, while alone. I realized how ridiculous I may have seemed but it was the opposite my statement was acknowledged and met with a "Welcome to heaven, what can I help you with" she then extended her hand for a shake and said "We're happy to have you, I'm Laura nice to meet you" That only increased the disbelief I was in. Wine store 2 mins from my house with awesome customer service? There were 2 other gentlemen in there John and Julian. I believe John is who helped me pick out some wine. Was not wrong in his suggestions, I got 3 bottles tried 2 and they were great recommendations. He knows his stuff. The other employee on duty was Julian, his sense of humor is as great as his customer service. Well, I made the jokes and he just laughed, which again speaks to his customer service skills cause I'm not that funny. This store looks small on the outside but it is huge inside. They have wine lining the walls, shelves throughout the floor and so many varieties. I may be mistaken but I feel certain I also saw hard liquor options. Apparently, they have sandwiches and sell fresh bread. I read on the door they also sell cheese. My understanding is they also do wine tastings on the weekends which will resume in the fall. The store is clean, has great decor, and is super organized. There is on-street parking, It is located in the center of Cushing Square in Belmont.

Yelp
Sandwiches are very good. People are very friendly and great customer service. The sandwiches are big portions and delicious.

Yelp
This place is located within walking distance of my home, but I always forget that it's there! During this pandemic, it's been a nice place to grab a few things, especially beer and wine for cooking like Marsala, sake, and mirin. The staff have been especially helpful. One time I was in there and asked if they sold garlic bread, and one of the clerks just gave me a very quick recipe to do at home with just garlic and butter, and it worked! I've also enjoyed their Caprese sandwich and look forward to trying their other sandwiches in the future.

Yelp
The Spirited Gourmet is seriously the heart of Cushing Square!!! All the staff are so incredibly kind and knowledgable. The food is delicious!! The wine is absolutely incredible. They have such great gifts and unique selections of food and fun events! Definitely stop by and you will not be disappointed!!!!

Yelp
Went back today for more. So yummy! Picked up their cheapest Cava, $14 Mont Paral Rose for a chill Sunday.

Yelp
Wow--If I could give 10 stars, I would! I wanted to do an original thank you gift for someone who worked a miracle for my very ill daughter, and I recalled an exceptional tasting experience at Chateaux Guirard in France that paired their Sauternes with beluga caviar that I wanted to recreate that for my friend. I called over a dozen high-end wine and food distibutors and couldn't find anyone who could curate this pairing (with one very perishable element) until I tried Spirited Gourmet. From my first interaction, I was impressed. They quickly verified that they could obtain the wine and then, while beluga is no longer available in the USA, they found the closest variant (Kaluga) and then interacted patiently with the recipients who were doing quite a bit of traveling. The General Manager, Laura Maloney, has set the bar extremely high for excellence--she even wrote out my thank you note in cursive to add to the package. Brava!
google avatar

Jim C.

Yelp
Amazing selection of wine, cheese and other grocery goods. Wine selection is good, but beer by the single bottles, to allow for mixing a tasting flight, would be great.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a neat shop ... I know no one says neat anymore but I decided to bring neat back into the lexicon. I have been going here for a while to get ports, Rieslings, and gourmet gift items but I have never been for a wine tasting. A group of moms dropped off our girls at their first mixer on a spring Friday night and had a few hours to kill so we started off our evening here. I was in luck because it was a German white wine tasting (my favorite types). They also had a beer tasting and since I was not driving we partook of the Belgians they had out. We proceeded to purchase a nice white and a bunch of nosh-y things which they have in spades and proceeded to have a nice wine, cheese, and chocolate night.

Yelp
Wow I'm so blown away by all this store has to offer. Stopped in quickly today to poke around and was warmly welcomed by the friendly person behind the cheese counter offering a sample. I didn't have time to look around so told them I'd be back and was invited to the wine chocolate and cheese sampling this Friday. Yupp I'll be there! Looking forward to enjoying all the treats they have to offer and hopefully Bringing home goodies for the holidays. A+ fir friendliness of staff. There's nothing better than being made to feel welcome.

Yelp
The Spirited Gourmet, in the heart of Cushing Square, is Belmont's premier destination for wine, spirits, and beer; that is my favorite aspect lol. There is a vast selection of upper echelon cheese and delicatessen goods and delivery is available. The adult beverages run the gammet in price and variety; but, everything in the establishment is first-class, indeed. It's my go-to-spot and not just because I can walk there !

Gail S.

Yelp
Update: I got a great response from The Spirited Gourment owner. thank you Hi, I stopped by Friday night at 6:59. The customer 30 seconds in front of me went right in. By the time I got to the door it was locked....7PM on a Friday night. What Liquor store is closed on a Friday night??? I sat in my car (looking for another store) and within 3 minutes the customer came out and the manager quickly flipped the sign that they were closed. I guess when they say 7PM, they mean 7PM. The hours on Yelp are wrong. I did check their website and they do close at 7PM each night. Who would have thought? Is Belmont that sleepy a town?

Yelp
I've always seen this store across the street from Starbucks but never went in until this week. I'll definitely be back to refill my extra virgin olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar when they run out. We also tried a wedge of the Guinness cheddar, which was very tasty and scouted out a few nice bottles of wine, though we didn't buy any of this trip. The store was clean, well stocked and well organized and I'll definitely be back for some tasty treats soon.

Yelp
My fiance and I have been coming here a lot over the past two years - mainly for the wine tastings. This shop has great cheese selections, gourmet meats, sauces, pastas, and oils. Not to mention their extensive wine collection...it's huge and very nice. Cushing Square in Belmont couldn't be a more perfect location. The one thing that I would recommend is holding their seasonal wine extravaganza tastings in a bigger, more spacious location. I found that it was hard to talk to the proprietors and sellers about their specific wines, and very crowded at the various tables/stations. All in all, it was a good event but we didn't stay very long because at some point, it was even impossible to get a taste of some great choices on the list. We got two bottles and can't wait to enjoy them.

Yelp
This place is a favorite of mine. The sandwiches are amazing, great wine and cheese selection, good pasta choices and the people are very friendly!

Yelp
I watched the man behind the deli counter cleaning the slicer with a spray bottle. I took a while to decide my order. When i did decide, i believe he made my sandwich without changing his gloves. He seemed very frazzled and panicked even though i was the only person at the counter. Seemed they were out of lettuce so he went and grabbed some from out back somewhere. It came in a bag and was still banded, aka not washed. He broke of some and put it on my sandwich. Honestly i was flabbergasted and didn't know what to do- having worked in a sandwich shop myself before i know these two things are glaring NO NO's. Potentially getting cleaning products in the customers sandwich via cross contamination by not changing your gloves, and giving the customer unwashed lettuce. I paid for my sandwich, debated getting sick for all of three minutes, and threw $12 in the garbage. Part of me wanted to call out the sandwich maker at the time he was making the sandwich but you never know how people will react to criticism.

Yelp
The Tom Tom is easily top 5 best things I've ever eaten in my life. If you're in need of a lunch to put u in the best mood of your life you will get food here. Unreal. Couldn't not leave a review. Great customer service.

Yelp
I hate to give a store a negative review when the clerks are as polite, friendly, and helpful as these folks were. Still, my interaction with them resulted in a fairly big customer service failure, I'm guessing because they're not used to dealing with businesses. On a Monday, I call on behalf of my company's Human Resources department to send a gift basket to an employee on leave. The person on the phone takes my order and the number of the credit card (belonging to one of the managers). They tell me the basket will go out before the end of the week. On Thursday, the store calls me to say that the basket is ready, but the card was declined. Assuming one of us made a mistake in reading off or writing down the number, I get a second manager's card, as I can't track down the first manager. It is declined. I ask the clerk if she needs the name on the card, and she says no. Increasingly puzzled, I run all over the building, talk to the accountant, and get a third manager's card from a completely different bank. Also declined. In desperation, I finally give them my personal card number. Accepted! After some consultation with our accountant, I talk to the credit card company and the light bulb goes on: MY name was on the order, and the credit card service was comparing the name on the card to the name on the order. That's why only my card worked. In the meantime, I'm waiting for an e-mailed receipt to arrive so I can be reimbursed. I wait all afternoon, then an hour after the store opens the next day. I call and remind them. Three hours pass, no receipt. I call them again and tell them my theory about the credit card problem, which is accepted politely but without apology. FINALLY the receipt arrives. Relief! Unfortunately, the basket is not exactly what I ordered. The store doesn't allow you to select specific items for the baskets, but my instructions were to "fill it mostly with meat and cheese" and also include a couple of spreads and some crackers. The basket that was sent contains only one cheese and one salami -- the rest is other stuff, all of which looks lovely, but isn't what I asked for. At this point, though, I'm too exhausted by the whole thing to complain. Just hoping the recipient likes the basket!

Yelp
Pregnant women, beware. If you walk into this store, you will want to do everything you're not supposed to: Eat blue cheese, drink large amounts of wine, and try many of the micro-brewed beers. They just opened their doors this afternoon, and as hubby and I were strolling around fabulous Cushing Square, I yelped out loud and ran across a busy street, pulling hubby behind me. The owner, Nick (or Nic, Nik, Nique, or ONick where the "O" is silent like opossum) introduced himself and asked if we were looking for anything in particular. We told him we were just browsing, and he apologized for not having the store completely up and running. There were quite a few empty shelves, but the wines he had out were awesome. So were the cheeses. Lots of whites, including my favorite Chardonnay, plenty of scrumptious reds, and a nice selection of tawny ports in great bottles PERFECT for gift giving this year. I can't wait to see The Spirited Gourmet when it's completely stocked. Next Saturday is their official grand opening, complete with samples and pours. Guess we know where I'll be.

Grace P.

Yelp
I ordered the Tom Tom! It was amazing and made fresh in front of me. Great quality ingredients for the price!

Shayne B.

Yelp
Update: The manager of the store contacted me personally and has made note that she will be instructing her team to ensure that the gluten free sandwiches are comparable to those containing gluten. The speedy response and offer to rectify the issue is not something often found in industries like this. Excited to be able to continue to go to The Spirited Gourmet. Definitely add this to your list! This place used to be a staple for my girlfriend and I. Five stars across the board until our last order. I have a gluten allergy which is how we found this shop. They have rich unique sandwiches that can be prepared on amazing gluten free bread. The time previous to the one I'm talking about now I was given a full sandwich which was a decent size at $13 a whack. It was the size of traditional sandwich bread and my girlfriend, who is not gluten free, also received a massive sandwich. This time around she received her full sandwich and I received half a sandwich. If they are going to cut corners on this with allergies due to cost they shouldn't be up-charging $2. Sad to have to take this one off the list.

Yelp
This place is absolutely ADORABLE! Went here with my fiancée on Sunday (and were pleasantly surprised it was open on Sundays.) We found it accidentally because we parked in front of it so we could go to Ben Franklin to get some Sunday lazy-day craft supplies. Anyway, it looked like a snooty place from the outside, but we decided to go in anyway, and were super pleased we did. They have a metric ton of wines from all regions, and a lot of local New England wines. They had some interesting looking cheeses in a deli case and a lot of things in jars. I bought some artichoke and roasted red pepper tapenade, and it was amazing over some sliced baguette and goat cheese, as the label suggested. The staff was incredibly friendly, and ultra helpful. We aren't huge foodies, and even less huger winies. (I know, not real words, but go with it...) Point is, I'm not really discerning when it comes to picking wines, and my fiancée is even less so. The woman who was there was practically begging to help him pick out a wine, and displayed her vast wine knowledge when he asked for her help. He loved the wine that she helped him decide on. I got two bottles of wine myself, and I used my normal strategy: it has to have an animal on the label and/or it has to be less than $15. They have plenty of inexpensive and delicious wine options. All together, we got 3 bottles of wine, a jar of tapenade, and a loaf of crusty bread for $45. Unheard of! We will definitely be going back.

Yelp
We bought a bottle of wine from this store to go with our dinner at neighboring Kitchen on the Common (yay, BYOB restaurants!). Really nice selection of wines, craft beers, and gourmet foods. After dinner we came back to browse in a more leisurely way, and even though I'd just eaten a big meal, I found my mouth watering at some of the chocolates, port, cheeses, and so on. While they had wines across a fair range of prices (we found a nice $12 bottle, extremely reasonable and really tasty), I was a little startled by the high markup on some items. I love supporting small businesses and always try to go to a specialty market for my microbrews, wine and liquor because they have the best selection. However, this store had prices that were sometimes significantly higher than what I've seen at other places for the same brand of vodka, etc. Visit The Spirited Gourmet for what's unique about it -- the wine selection, one-stop shopping for gourmet food and beverage pairings, browsing for a great hostess gift, etc. If you just need any old bottle of the hard stuff, you can find something friendlier to your budget.

Yelp
Stopped in for a sandwich today and the person behind the counter was super sweet, I always need a bunch of time to choose something from any menu and they were willing to let me have that time. I didn't wait long (even though the counter person said they were a little backed up) and the sandwich was amazing! Iggy's bread, fresh roast beef with a delightful horseradish mayo. Wow. Definitely will return.
google avatar

Cindy K.

Yelp
I love this place. It's always dangerous to go in here, not just because you are spending a hefty amount on booze, but also there are always good little snacks in there, like chocolate and nuts. I especially love coming here during the summer for their gourmet iced creams they sell by the pint and DOMs Steak tips...drool. Nick is a very helpful guy when it comes to wine. I have never had a bad recommendation from him. He is very knowledgeable and personable. They always have wine and beer tasting every Friday and Saturday. They even have specials going on for those being showcased (tasted) for that week.

Katie S.

Yelp
Despite having signs on the door from saying all customers must wear a mask per order of the city of Belmont, the owner does not wear a mask at all, even when working with customers. The sandwiches are overpriced. The wine selection is good.
google avatar

Yelp
Great set up of store. Awesome and helpful customer service. Love this gem I newly found!

Yelp
God how I do miss my days in Massachusetts and it's due, in-part, to places like The Spirited Gourmet. One of my favorite things to do on a Friday night was to step inside this warm and inviting boutique wine and cheese shop (not to diminish the availability of spirits and other items). For a solid year, I was here at least once a week and do not recall one negative experience. The wine tastings were an event, the ability to sample the cheeses before purchase, and the friendly staff make this little place in Belmont yet one more reason I'm constantly looking for gainful employment back in New England. Thanks for the memories, Spirited Gourmet. I will be back.

Yelp
I really liked this place. Looking for a great new "foodie" place to check out and stumbled upon the Spirited Gourmet online. Turns out they have free wine tastings every Saturday night, and lucky for me it was a Saturday. Went with my boyfriend and tasted some Greek wines. They were very good! The service was great and everyone was very helpful with our questions. There seemed to be a good selection of wine, beer, champagne, and gourmet foods. The setup of the store was nice and it was fun just to browse at all the food items. My boyfriend and I tasted a few different cheeses and picked out a couple to buy and bring home, along with a bottle of Greek wine that we tasted and liked. Will definitely be going back....go check it out!

Yelp
This store is like foodie heaven, at a not so bad price. I saw so many things I wanted to get. I decided to start with the gourmet olive oil from Greece, brand "Ariston". I got a small bottle to start before investing in the larger. They do a discounted refill program once you buy the first bottle. I tried it with some french bread and red pepper flakes. Wow! This was the best olive oil I've ever had at home. I'll surely buy a larger bottle now. They offer the same thing with a balsamic vinegar. That will be my next try once I'm out. If you love things with truffle oil, they have a bunch of truffle oils at a good price. Go with the black truffle oil, its richer. I already had some at home so passed. The cheese selection was fantastic, plenty of aged hard cheeses as well as a refrigerated case of cold ones. In the case also were some ready to heat appetizers like ravioli and phyllo wrapped brie. I will certainly be back for more of all that. I liked the layout of the store. It was easy to find things. They had in dependant brands, as well as some well know like Stonewall Kitchen. The wine selection was narrowed down to what I would think was a good selection. Since I like to age wines I'll be back for something good. I eyed some nice vintages from France. There were a few employees on hand. The guy at the register was nice. This is a good spot to pick up some reasonably priced goodies or to make a gourmet gift basket for someone. It's nice that stores like this still exist!

Yelp
Another new place in Belmont yea! Great quality wines, with very knowledgeable presenters conducting the wine tastings. Small selection of cheese, crackers, sauces and hostess gifts. There are many open shelves in this place; so, I look forward to seeing it grow.
google avatar

Yelp
My go-to place for quality wine. More variety than the Magnolia Wine shop further up the street. I recommend picking up a bottle of Jelu (Pinot Noir from Argentina) for only $17 if you are looking for a bargain. Very friendly staff. They also sell these attachable wine pourers that are super handy. Will have to try some of their gourmet food items, including their cheeses.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing local shop that sells great cheeses, wines, local yogurt, chocolates! They even have a wine that restores 100 oysters per bottle!!

Yelp
I love The Spirited Gourmet. Their new location is in Belmont, which up until recently was a "dry" town. Nick Martinelle is the store's wine buyer and manager, and he knows his wines. He is very pleasant and helpful, and is totally not pretentious, which is very important for customers. Nick has a fabulous wine selection. The store's grand opening was this past Saturday, and it was a success. He had a great selection of wines, including a marvelous Champagne and Port, at the tasting table. Other wines included a couple Pinot Noirs ... one from Burgundy (a Volnay) and one from California. The South African Sauvignon Blanc, German Riesling, and Austrian Gruner Veltliner were delicious. I kept saying as I went through the flight that I could smell pecan pie as a I tried the three whites I mentioned above. Nick is THE wine guy. He knows what he's talking about, and he has done a remarkable job at getting the wine section up and running in a short amount of time. Kudos to him! Also kudos to the rest of The Spirited Gourmet's staff, especially the owners, Chris and Elena Benoit, who launched their flagship shop three years ago in Winchester. I heard a lot of praise last Saturday from fellow customers, saying they had been waiting years for a boutique like this to open in Belmont -- and now they have it! Also available at The Spirited Gourmet is a wonderful selection of artisenal cheese. My fiancee and I adore cheese, as my readers will note from my previous Yelp entries. The beer selection, which Chris Benoit is in charge of, is great, too. You'll find hard-to-find beers available here. There are also fine chocolates and condiments that taste great topped on cheese and desserts. I bought a jar of carmelized onion preserves, and that tasted delish on top of the tenderloin beef appetizers I also bought there. The Spirited Gourmet's Belmont store opened at a perfect time -- the holidays. Get your foodie loved one their gift here -- the staff will put together a gift basket for you! Go now, and tell Nick the wine buyer that Fraulein W. sent you!

Yelp
A gourmet wine and cheese shop without the snooty attitude. The Spirited Gourmet is located in Cushing Square, Belmont. It has an incredible selection of wines -- even its $15-and-under rack has some top-notch pours. There's a gourmet cheese counter, a craft beers section, and assorted chocolates, spreads, and other high-end goodies. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, without being pushy. It's a really attractive store that invites you to stay and browse. They have regularly scheduled tastings. Enthusiastically recommended!

Yelp
I love the location. Parking, ok (on a very not busy street). I am ok with the decor, it's wine and cheese standard issue dark woods and clean. I walked in and asked for a Barbera D'Alba for my husband's birthday. They hand me something almost a Barbera D'Alba. I buy it. It's not cheap, it's not great, it's just almost what I wanted. On another occasion: I went to the wine tasting. It's on sale. It tastes like gasoline. I pass. Get cheese. Get wicked overpriced candies. Three tastes later, it's all cheap crap. I don't get it. It's a moneyed neighborhood and they want to sell the cheap stuff. Sigh. I just have different taste than this place. I wish it were Gypsy Kitchen. I make the drive to Quincy.

T. Tom B.

Yelp
Chris and his team helped me put together a beautiful basket for a long-distance family birthday and anniversary. Very thoughtful service, including a phone call to make sure it was all right! Thrilled.

Yelp
Really everything you could ask for in a neighborhood wine shop. They have a ton of fun tastings, enthusiastic staff, and the prices are quite reasonable, especially if you can take advantage of the combo of tasting and case discounts. The cheese counter has some nice selections and they have a bunch of other gourmet food items to go with your wine. This isn't my go-to shop for beer or spirits, but certainly a viable option if you need to pick up a six-pack or a bottle.

Yelp
The Belmont Spirited Gourmet is a great wine shop for a variety of reasons. For starters, it's neat and tidy and has a great selection. More often than not there is something free to sample while you peruse the racks. Their formal tastings are also fun and frequent. They are always packed, but thanks to the jolliness of the event, it's not a problem to push past people. The owner or manager, who looks like James from Hasbro's Guess Who, has lots of valuable insight and is happy to offer suggestions at any price-point. He recommended a bottle of Port and a bottle of Madeira, both are now my current favorites. They have a bargain rack of wine that is forever changing so if you only want to spend $10 on a bottle you can do it as easily as if you want to live it up. They also subscribe to the wine-o-phile database thing that remembers your purchases online so you can see what you bought, and review them for future purchases. Nothing like leaving reviews. I haven't dabbled in their cheese selection, but it looks pretty good. I think the WInchester location might have more cheeses. I think I'll stop by tonight for a bottle.

Yelp
My right around the corner go to for good beer. They have nice specialty/gourmet products as well. NOT stuffy as I was initially apprehensive of this before I first visited.

Yelp
I adore this place. I believe they were the first store to sell alcohol after they ended prohibition in Belmont. They are my current go to when my wife has had a stressful day and I want to pamper her. They listen to what I am looking for (Petey scotch, stinky cheese, dark chocolate, GF) they have a cheese/ person, a whiskey person, and everyone knows their chocolates. I can put together a perfect pic me in under 10 minutes with the wonderful staff. The best part is they get excited about helping. Which is so re-energizing at the end of my day. Just thank you for making me look good.

Yelp
Yelpers, Do yourselves a favor and patronize this store. I have rarely come across a place with better customer service and a selection of wares that will cast desire of everything in the place into your heart. And that kind of awesome NEEDS to be rewarded. Here is my story: About three years ago, my then-boyfriend (now husband) and I were looking for a new apartment, and Belmont just seemed like a town we should be in. We spent a good month of weekends driving to and from open houses and viewing appointments. During the course of that time, we stumbled upon this place. I remember that we were a little bit early to an appointment, and we needed to find parking. We parked right out front of this store and I said we should go in to waste some time before we had to meet the realtor. While we were there, I bought a bottle of wine and a fancy chocolate bar. I cannot recall if the wine was bad, so it must have been to my liking; the chocolate bar, however, was not. It consisted of dark chocolate and sea-salt, a combination that I had enjoyed in the past and thought that I would like in this instance. The packaging also swayed me, as it had a seahorse on it, and I have a heart-on for anything pony. This confection was not in my realm of delicious--quite the contrary--so I gave it to my boy. He thought it was the best damn chocolate bar he had ever put in his mouth. Cut to about a month ago: My boy and I had moved to Watertown and I was going crazy because our wedding was days away, and my friend that was making the cupcakes needed to go to a bakery. She googled the closest bakery and found Ohlin's Bakery, which is located right next to this place. Upon driving up to Ohlin's, I was very pleasantly surprised to see The Spirited Gourmet. I was equally happy to know how close it was to our new home. Two days after the wedding (which was completely awesome, if you were wondering), I dragged my new husband over to Ohlin's (review of them to follow), pointed out The Spirited Gourmet and asked him if he remembered it. His eyes got really wide and head said something to the effect of "salt chocolate". I took it as a yes and we went inside. We spent a good 20 minutes avoiding eye contact with the workers and looking for the chocolate. Alas, we came up empty handed, and decided that we needed to partake in human interaction to get our question answered. The woman at the counter took on our inquiry like it was a quest. We explained that it had been a long time ago, we also explained the packaging and what the chocolate bar tasted like, everything we could think of. They didn't have it any more, but she was on it: completely determined to find out what we were talking about. We gave her our information, signed up for their email list, said thank you, and left with a selection of other fine, savory goodies. Two weeks went by and my husband received a phone call from Rayna. She had found the chocolate bar, ordered it, and said it should be in the store in about a week. A week went by, we moseyed our way down there, and she not only had ordered for us, but replenished her stock for the entire store, in six different varieties. My boy replenished his own stock, very pleasantly surprised. I wanted to thank Rayna, but she wasn't around right then, so we picked up a few more Halloween supplies and skedaddled. Less than a week later, Rayna sent a very thoughtful e-mail informing us that the chocolates were in. My boy was impressed by that level of dedication, and so was I. Forget the store's inventory (okay, don't forget it--there's also a delicious array of cheeses, sausage, spiffy liquors, and wine wine wine from all over the world), that level of customer service alone is a model for everyone else in the business. Not only did Rayna make us feel like our somewhat trivial request was the MOST important thing, she followed through on honoring it, and, in the process, might just have made us customers for life. She's certainly inspired us to visit more often than every three years. Thank you Rayna, and thank you Spirited Gourmet!

Yelp
Visited store only because I needed some alcoholic gifts in a hurry. Again very poor customer service. Staff was much more interested in a situation with another customer behind me in line, then in attending to my purchase and my packaging. I was asked if I wanted a bag for my beer and wine. Of course I need a bag! Only shop here when I'm desperate for the convenience.

Yelp
Great place to find more unique vintages. Very knowledgeable staff. Some wines seem a bit overpriced, but perhaps that's a result of the great service here.
