Edit (response to business response): Just to be clear, I know what a matcha latte should taste like. I work in tea, but even if I didn't, I think it's kind of patronizing to imply that I just don't know what a good matcha is. Furthermore, I never said anything about the sweetness being inadequate. The matcha was not stored properly and the flavor was not good. I was pretty clear in my review. I'm not sure what bougie concept it is to use straight matcha and only sweeten it with vanilla syrup, but it sounds like y'all are the ones that don't know how to prepare tea properly. Good luck. Won't be back.
I feel bad leaving this review because the barista was sooo nice (these two stars are for her), but this was the worst matcha latte I've ever had. The matcha was low-quality and not fresh. There was hardly a perceptible taste of tea at all, it mostly tasted of soy milk, but what was there was sort of fishy. Furthermore, there were hard little pebbles of matcha powder that had solidified due, presumably, to moisture getting inside the storage container. I accidentally sucked one down in my first sip because I was not expecting it and it was not a pleasant experience. It hurt my throat. I honestly couldn't bring myself to finish it. I really don't think there is an excuse for serving something like this in Portland, considering the ease of preparation and the fact that we have multiple LOCAL tea places selling high-quality matcha powder. Even Starbucks serves a better matcha than whatever this was. Really disappointing.
