The Stafford London

"Set in the hushed St. James neighborhood, a short walk from Buckingham Palace, this perennial favorite has 380-year-old working wine cellars and underground corridors to St. James’s Palace. The former home of nineteenth-century nobility, the Main House offers rooms individually decorated with period furnishings and wallpaper. Ground-floor accommodations in the Carriage House, originally built as stables for the nobles’ horses, retain the stable doors and are named for famous horses. (Stay in one of the Mews Suites if your tastes skew more contemporary.) Head to the American Bar for a peek at signed celebrity photographs and a ceiling hung with club ties."

Seasoned traveler here and nothing compares with the luxurious accommodations that come with the warm feel of being home that The Stafford has to offer. The service is welcoming and attentive, the food absolutely glorious and the cocktails are beautiful. We had Sunday Roast with the new chef Michael Caines at the helm and it is definitely an experience not to be missed! Breakfasts always exquisite and fresh. Everything is on point. Second time staying here and it has only gotten better (which we thought impossible since they were fantastic last year!) and we will always choose this home away from home whenever we are in London!

From the moment my teenage daughter and I arrived at The Stafford London for our mother/daughter trip, we felt completely taken care of. After an overnight flight, we reached the hotel around 10:30 a.m. — well before check-in — and were warmly welcomed. They offered us a room to change and freshen up, a powder room to brush our teeth, held our bags, and even served us tea before we headed out to explore. By 1:30 p.m. our room was ready, though we were happily caught up in sightseeing and shopping.||The accommodations were exquisite. Our room had a cozy sitting area with a faux fireplace, and I loved the daily newspaper service — such a treat for someone who’s worked in publishing. The in-room coffee maker was perfect for my early-morning caffeine fix, and the bed was nothing short of dreamy. My daughter and I agreed it was the best night’s sleep we’ve ever had; she even insisted I call to find out who makes their bedding!||The thoughtful turndown service placed our slippers on little white mats beside the bed. Dining was equally memorable — The Game Bird restaurant served the largest espresso martini I’ve ever seen, in the longest-stemmed glass, and the highlight of my entire trip’s desserts: a gluten-free soufflé with a warm pour-over. Simply divine.||The location is unbeatable — tucked away on charming St. James yet within walking distance of Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, and fantastic shopping. This is exactly what five-star service should be, and I cannot wait to return. How have more people not heard of this gem?!

We had the best stay at the Stafford! It is very difficult to find somewhere to stay in London with a family of 5 and the Stafford was absolutely perfect. We had a two bedroom suite - the bedrooms were huge and there were two bathrooms AND a powder room! If you have 2 or more teenagers you know how incredible this is - and how rare for Europe! The bedrooms were so well appointed and comfortable with ample closet space. The service was impeccable - the location is great, the American Bar chic and delicious food and drinks. I can’t say enough about how wonderful our stay was. We will definitely be back! Thank you so much to the Stafford for making our trip to London unforgettable.

Google
Oh dear- booked a table at the American Bar for drinks, treated like something off the bottom of the concierge’s shoe. We were half an hour early for our booking and told to push off. Restaurant and bar totally empty but wouldn’t allow us to sit and have an aperitif while we waited for our friend. Worst service I’ve experienced in a so called top class hotel in London. We need a new word for poor

I’ve been to London many times but not in many years. I’m staying at the Stafford Hotel it is perfect. My junior suite is great. The staff are wonderful. The American bar is the best sophisticated bar I’ve been in for years |This year I’ve been to Splendido in Portofino and here. I highly recommend them both. They are perfect.

I travel a lot and there’s nothing like The Stafford. The service is world class, the food is top notch, and the accommodations are gorgeous but unpretentious. It was close to everything so we were able to walk to all the attractions in Central London. The hotel was tucked away on a quiet street so we were able to get a good night’s sleep after a busy day of sightseeing. I recommend the breakfast and Sunday Roast and be sure to have a drink at the American Bar. The wait staff is so friendly and made each meal magical.

We have stayed and dined at The Stafford many times. Once we step inside the small front door, it immediately becomes our home away from home. Whatever is happening in the outside world we are transported to a more genteel age when service is everything and discretion paramount. Devoid of razzmatazz and gimmicks, The Stafford continues to offer refined luxury in a quiet location just a few strides from Green Park and Buckingham Palace. Random acts of kindness abound, everything is done with a calm confidence. To add to this, the dining experience is always amazing, complemented by one of the best wine lists in London. The Stafford knows it has something special and doesn't need to shout about it.

Hospitality is a hallmark of Filipino culture. So, I think I know a thing or 2 about that H word. As soon as we stepped out of our ride, we were greeted with,” welcome home” which was unexpected but heartwarming. It’s usually, “welcome to (name of establishment)”. There were 6 of us and we were taking different rooms. There were enough staff to take us to our rooms and acquaint us with the amenities of Stafford Hotel, We were treated royally all the days we were there. Staff were professional but our interaction with them was congenial and warm whatever time of day or night. It starts from the top, I’ve heard it said. I researched the background of Stafford’s General Manager, John McLean. He has an impressive experience running five star properties all over the world and it shows. |While there, ask to see the wine cellar and its impressive collection of fine wines. More than that, it has remnants of world war 2 history which I find really interesting. Check out the American Bar, one of the longest surviving American Bars in London. Ask about the memorabilia on display while you enjoy your expertly crafted drinks and small bites like we did. |The Sunday Roast is a must! There were well traveled foodies in our party. We all agreed that every course was a treat to the eyes and the palate. |The next time we’re in London, I have no second thoughts about staying at Stafford again. I highly recommend.

Yelp
The service was exquisite, the presentation beautifully done. This was my first afternoon tea and enjoyed it. I was not however expecting everything to be so sweet. Some items were too sweet to eat in my opinion.

Yelp
Had afternoon tea in 2023. It was nice and the setting pretty. Somewhat ruined by loud 50-60 year olds talking right next to my table when no one else was there. Staff is not trained well enough to create a pleasant environment sadly. The tea itself was very nice and they offer gluten free options. They did make a mistake by not providing two portions but since Im not celiac it was ok. The only problem was the somewhat ungracious way the server insisted I made a mistake. For afternoon tea at the Staffords I would expect polite service and well mannered staff.

Yelp
Simply an incredible experience. We would return in a heartbeat. After a 12 day vacation, The Stafford made it hard to leave. Thank you! Bobby and Jennifer

Yelp
The Good: This hotel is not only centrally located but the rooms are HUGE and quiet. Finding all three of these characteristics at a London hotel is not easy. Breakfast was included in our rate (Amex FHR property) and I still remember how fresh and delicious the eggs and English muffin were. The Bad: I really can't think of anything except that while we were staying here the hotel was being renovated and thus was operating on a sort of temporary basis. Still, the staff did everything they could to be welcoming and accommodating. Bottom Line: I haven't found a better hotel in London for the price yet. My search continues...

Yelp
There are alot of beautiful hotels. The Stafford has to be one of the most beautiful I have even seen. I stumbled across it during my first trip to London 9 years ago. I fell in love with it instantly. At the time I was poor (relatively speaking), yet determined to stay there even if just for a night. It came as no suprise that the weather was foul. I've been to London four times. Its never been nice. I had left all of my things at the youth hostel and decided that I wasn't going to get on the tube and then walk an additional 5-10 blocks to grab my toothbrush and a change of clothes. Grateful that I had worn several layers (scarf, peacoat, sweater, tank top) and had brought my book I enterred The Stafford not knowing what to expect. I didnt touch my book until 2 days later. At the front desk I was told all of the rooms are "different." I love "different," "diverse", "unique" and any synonym thereof. The man whose name I don't remember and maybe he never told me at all, offered to have a staff person show me a few of the rooms before I settled into one. A few, became 10-12 and I reveled at the color schemes, textures and general charm and style of each of them. I spent that entire day in the hotel- the bar- my bathtub- the carriage house- the wine cellar- I sort of crashed a wedding- and I even spent sometime lying on the plush carpetting (not what you think!) I'm certain I dream of The Stafford from time to time. It will always be one of my very favorite places to stay.

Yelp
After staying in a number of London Hotels, my family and I have been staying here ever since. My mom has been coming to London since the 1960s and she will not stay anywhere else. We have been staying at this hotel for years-- the service is impecable, the rooms are beautiful, the restaurant and bar are jewels, and the bathrooms are outstanding in every room. Each room is different and unique and there are no "bad" rooms. If you want a lovely hotel in a fantastic central location where you can walk to everything, look no further.

Yelp
This really is a lovely hotel. It almost has a bed and breakfast feel. We had a large party with 8 rooms. There was a bit of confusion with our check-in, giving things a rough start. The staff wanted to know who was going to be in each room. After 12 hours of traveling and 8 hours of sightseeing, we were exhausted and not in much of a mood to do that. But it was all uphill from there. They have old fashioned keys to get into the rooms. I don't remember the last time I've seen those. Each room is a little different, though beautiful. Our room was very modern, some were more classic. It was neat comparing each one. There was also a little rubber ducky in the bathtubs. The beds were comfortable and they had an american plug in each room, which was so convenient. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only warning is that if you ask them for a recommendation for a moderately priced restaurant they will likely send you somewhere expensive by American standards because you are staying there, haha. We had a wonderful experience at the hotel and overall, I would definitely recommend the Stafford.

Yelp
Oh boy I felt the world's hottest prime minister when I stayed here. I first heard about it on the Travel Channel and was quickly drawn to it. This is considered a high end hotel which is only good if more than 3 family members are booking a stay. The accommodations here are the best you will ever see on vacation if you are waiting for a flight date or getting of Euro Star. Beds here are really comfortable and a good night sleep is guaranteed. Rooms are bigger than an American hotel and feels quintessentially local like the 1900s. It's pretty exquisitehence it's name. You can get easy access to all sorts of transport here and they will even call your taxi over. Just don't forget to tip your door man. From the hotel you can take the Tube too. The tube can get you to Piccadilly Circus or a bus to Trafalgar Square. If you want a taste of London this is your hotel to stay at. I personally like the afternoon traditional tea. It's a good time to feel laid back. They even provide you a sweet calling card that makes you feel good "my residence while in London". Come for all occasions if your family is backing your trip or is with you.

Yelp
My mom and I stayed at the Stafford in October 2013 and had an absolutely marvelous time! We used hotel points so it was actually pretty reasonable. The staff was absolutely lovely and so helpful! We loved our room and enjoyed drinks at the bar downstairs each night. The location is great! There are some wonderful eateries nearby and the park and hop-on-hop-off is ridiculously close. We stayed at the airport hotel the night before our flight and as we waited for our cab to leave the Stafford, I almost shed a tear when they brought us tea while we waited. It felt very wrong to be going home! We WILL be staying at the Stafford again!! My advice? Don't overpack... it won't really fit in the room :)

Yelp
Best hotel I have ever stayed in -- I felt very at home and I did not want to leave. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. I am not The Stafford Hotel made me feel very comfortable and welcomed, like I belonged there and they wanted me to be there. My expectations were exceeded and surpassed (and I have very high expectations for hotels). The Stafford Hotel is one of the reasons why I am looking to work in London. With their amazing recommendations for restaurants and events, I fell in love. The location is also prime; just a walk from the buckingham palace and amazing park walks. this Hotel is a MUST! I have already booked to stay again in 2 months.
