Best Honky-Tonks in Nashville Serve Live Country Music Nearly Nonstop | Eater Nashville

"The Stage hangs its cowboy hat on its rowdy reputation, with boisterous action across two interior floors and a rooftop. While the venue doesn’t serve food, arrive ready to drink cold beer and dance along to country music favorites on each floor. You may have seen glimpses of the Stage on screen, as it appears in the Tim McGraw and Gwyneth Paltrow film Country Strong, Hank Williams, Jr.’s music video for “Why Don’t We All Just Get a Long Neck,” and even in an episode of the TV show What Not to Wear." - Kellie Walton

The Stage is my Absolute favorite place to party on Broadway!!! I’ve gone in groups and solo. The entire staff from security to bartenders are all about entertainment and safety. The musicians are always Fantastic and the Jello shots are Great!!! I’ve been coming to this venue since 2018 and it’s always had true musicians host each floor so I know the Stage is where it’s at. Great rooftop overlook to cool off and just overall an Awesome place. The selection of artists definitely reflects on the clientele who attend and I can tell you the crowd is mostly folks looking for Good sound and a place to have fun. Not rowdy and crammed with trouble. Came in Saturday and caught the Aaron Patrick band on the second floor. Such Amazing talent and definitely kept the vibe going thru the night. The band is on point and harmonious as a group and you can feel it through their 🎶 🎼 🎵 Luv the Stage and Thank You for always entertaining us!!!

Google
We stumbled upon The Stage in Broadway and was an amazing experience. The drinks were plentiful at a reasonable price. We were able to grab a table right next to the stage and the band Jered Ames was an amazing talent. Very entertaining and going places in country music. Then something happened, Craig Campbell and his amazing daughter Preslee Campbell came and sat with us at our table before taking the stage. Both did very well and it was amazing to see someone that's played at the Ryman perform at The Stage in Broadway again. Both were very nice and it was our pleasure to meet them both. The next band was NCB and they did very upbeat music and put in a great show! A truly magical last night in Nashville for all of us. I highly recommend this place! Thank you.

Google
Had a great time, but unlike the other venues the band stuck to just country music. Not bad in its self, but I have a very limited knowledge of the genre so I wasn’t feeling it as much as the rest of the crowd. Fun tho!!!

Google
No better place on broadway. It’s the perfect mix of small/genuine and great music. I’ve never eaten there but service at the bar is always good and music is great. It’s my go to whenever I’m in Nashville.

Google
Great place to listen to live country music. While not known for food service, definitely good music!

Google
Loved the atmosphere and the band was great. Great drinks too.

Google
I started to type, this may be the best bar on Broadway, but I just found out they don’t take cash and are the most expensive beer I’ve had yet. So there’s that. I’ll pay more for better all day, but you have a lot of choices on Broadway and I like paying cash. The average beer is around $7-$8 but this place is $11 and change. I’ll just have one, it’s nice but not that much nicer than any of the other places.

Alex Anderson

Google
An amazing place! And they allow dogs inside, although not many people take them. We did and even the singer of the band came off stage to pet him! He was the star of the night. A band on each floor. Very limited food options but then again, who goes there for the food?

Yelp
Love this bar. Probably my favorite on the strip. The bands are great every time I go and loved the upper level.
google avatar

Yelp
It was just mediocre and elsewhere on Broadway folks' are hitting it out of the park. I don't remember anything remarkable about this place.
google avatar

Alison M.

Yelp
One of the best we stopped in for live music on the strip. It's a big larger and more spaced out inside so people were line dancing in front of the large stage and having a good time. There is plenty of high-top bar seating and an upstairs area to also sit and watch and listen. One of the top bands we heard was playing here and we really enjoyed it!

Yelp
SO MUCH FUN!!!! If you are traveling to Nashville, The Stage is a must!!! We had the best time here!! The music, the crowd, the locals, the energy, we could have stayed there all night! If you want to experience Nashville, you need to start with The Stage! This was exactly what we had in mind when looking for that Nashville night life experience. We grabbed drinks, watched the live music, some locals challenged us to shot gun beer LOL. It was seriously an amazing time! Bartenders are rockstars!

Yelp
Stopped in for the very last few minutes in town before the airport in a Monday afternoon. The musicians were great! I caught the very end of one act and the start of the next. The bartenders were lovely. The drinks were reasonably strong for the price. Overall a great afternoon!

Yelp
My review comes that I was here at 3:30 on a Tuesday and the crowd was small. Not sure what is like on weekends or later in the evening but my review it is a nice place to have a beer watch some live music and enjoy Nashville. The issue is doesn't every bar in Nashville have live music or is it just me. I have no idea how much beer was since the boss picked up the tab but overall I would say it is middle of the road when you choose bars in Nashville.

Yelp
One of the seemingly endless options for live music and libations on Broadway. My wife and I just wandered in, no real plans to come here, after tapping out from another joint. There was a really good band on the main stage downstairs, and we enjoyed the bluegrass twinged rock covers they were playing. After several songs, we checkout the smaller upstairs venue, where a different, non-bluegrass, band was belting out rock covers. Both bands were really enjoyable and quite good for a Monday night out on the town. Upstairs (lots of stairs) is nice because there is an outdoor patio as well, so you can get a nice view of the skyline while listening to the music. I was on an old fashion kick throughout the trip, and there were plenty of whiskeys to choose from and the cocktail was just fine.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the most laid back, fun bars on Broadway. Drinks are solid and okay prices for Broadway. Bartenders are friendly and fast. The bands here play legit country (old and new) with some rock mixed in just to keep it interesting. I didn't notice if they have food here since I just grabbed a few drinks and enjoyed the music. This was my favorite of all the Broadway bars.

Yelp
Walking up Broadway, we decided to dip into The Stage as our first stop. Never thought we'd get a table...but we did. Enjoyed some country and blues music while cooling off in the air conditioning and drinking an ice cold Stella! I could have stayed there all day (my kind of vibe) but my peeps wanted to check out other places.
google avatar

Greg M.

Yelp
If you don't know anything about a decent cocktail then come here. The music isn't terrible the band did well. But a Jameson and Ginger ale shouldn't taste like it's sugar water for 11$. Our friends for vodka lemonade and said the same thing it was so disgusting we didn't finish them and definitely will never come back. Don't waste your money on their drinks stick to buying some bring from a bottle.
google avatar

Karen D.

Yelp
Great place for live music! As with most other establishments on Broadway, there are different bands on different floors. There is a back entry way too. Drink selection was somewhat limited, also par for the course on Broadway. I tried a local beer. Service was fast. Overall, a good Nashville experience!
google avatar

Shirley W.

Yelp
We really had a good time here. Great music and good drinks! Would definitely say this one is worth stopping at!

Yelp
This was 2nd favorite bar on Broadway. Met some fun people, the servers were great, the door guy let me borrow his charger (which I accidentally broke, but paid him for it - he was so nice - thanks, Josh!), the music was great and I love The Highway Men mural. This place has a framed picture that once hung in Waylon Jennings' home, so being a huge WJ fan, I had to see it for myself! Loved this bar!!
google avatar

Lisa C.

Yelp
Spent the evening at the stage and it was the best experience on Broadway! Great music, friendly and fast bartenders, and good drinks. One of the bigger "dive bars "on broadway made for dancing, signing, and plenty of seating.
google avatar

Donna H.

Yelp
Had a great time at The Stage. We went to the top bar. The drinks weren't too expensive. Loved the music. Lively crowd. A fun night. Fast bar service.
google avatar

Danielle V.

Yelp
One of my favorites on Broadway. The vibes are always fun, the music is great and the service is on point. Many different levels with live bands on each floor. I saw the best violinist here one night. It gets crowded but in a more laid back way than some of the other bars on the strip. I never have a bad time here and it's a must stop while visiting Broadway!
google avatar

Olga G.

Yelp
My first time in Nashville and I loved getting to know it through the Stage! No cover, amazing music, vibe - a must visit!

Yelp
I we r to about 14 different Honky Tanks the weekend I was there, and the The Stage was by far my favorite place for live music. I saw Troy Woods and he put on a bell of a show. Super talented. And I wish I would have gotten the name of the girl he was with, playing the fiddle. She really stole the show. Really great atmosphere at The Stage. Will definitely be coming here.

Yelp
I do not recommend this bar. The bouncers at the door are poorly trained and escalate any possible situation given the chance. The man working on 5/23/2024 between 11:00 PM and 12:00 AM was the least professional bouncer I have met in my life. I am from the Midwest and have a vertical ID. The birthdate displayed on my ID is in an irregular place. Most people from out of our state have issues finding it. I pointed to the location of the birthday on the ID when he looked at it. He promptly said, "Do I tell you how to do your job when you are working?" I said "I was just trying to help." He promptly responded saying "no you are being a dick." I tried explaining that I am from the Midwest, we are just helpful, there must be a misunderstanding because I was not trying to offend him. He told me, "no shit you're from the Midwest, I know where --insert state name here-- is, you're being a dick and you're not coming in". I was not intoxicated nor "being a dick". This may have been a misunderstanding but this bouncer was unprofessional, rude, and is in need of re-training. Attempting to needlessly escalate a situation with a potential patron is dangerous for all parties. A bouncer's job is to de-escalate situations and maintain order within an establishment, to which he did neither. Yes, now I am telling him how to do his job. My family and I have had some great experiences at this bar in the past, even bringing friends and colleagues from conferences when in town. I am sad to say that we will not be returning again.

Yelp
This place was great with the live music. We also had drinks., and our server was great. There was plenty of room to dance.

Yelp
The stage was a great 3 story hockey tonk with music on each level. We spent time on the rooftop and really enjoyed the music, the view, and the service. I really enjoyed the fact they had built in heat lamps on the rooftop patio. I can't speak to the food but the drinks were great and the servers were very friendly.

Yelp
Super fun bar, live music was great and they had bars on every level. Roof top bar has great views
google avatar

Jeremy T.

Yelp
This place is pretty cool. It has multiple levels of fun. Each level of this building had a different band playing great music on it. I ended up settling on the second level because the band there happened to be playing some blues music. Things to know: you will have a massive crowd of people on the first floor that you will have to navigate through, and then on the upper levels the heard thins a little bit and it's easier to reach a bar tender to get a drink. Security guards: these guys were on their game, as I saw some girls who tried to walk in without showing ID, they made it close to the bar before they were stopped and their IDs were checked. They were told to leave after. This made things more enjoyable and comfortable knowing that there is people paying attention to make sure everyone has a good time. All in all, great place and would have loved to spend more time here. The music was top notch.
google avatar

Miatsu K.

Yelp
This was an extremely well thought through music venue. It had three full floors of music and none of music bled through to the other floors. This huge venue didn't charge a cover/door fee and that allowed people to tip the bands instead. The atmosphere was electric and it was clear that people that loved music were in attendance. I heard everything from rock and roll to country and western. Everyone was having a wonderful time. My lovely date and I danced, held hands and made out and absolutely enjoyed ourselves. She was so happy and it made me happy to see her having such a great time. The drinks were reasonably priced and were easy enough to get. Even with as many people that were at the bar. Service moved pretty fast In Nashville you just never know who you might see play and we saw a brief set with Kid Rock. What an amazing night this was. This music venue does it all right in my opinion.

Yelp
Spent a couple hours after an all day industry meeting to enjoy a highly recommended Nashville live entertainment bar, The Stage. Awesome music by an interactive band, great bartenders and plentiful drinks. Definitely recommend The Stage!
google avatar

Yelp
This seems like the go to spot! We came here late on a Wednesday night and it was pretty packed compared to some other spots but there was still plenty of free space towards the back and even seating. We got some drinks pretty quickly and stayed to enjoy the amazing band playing. They did a great job with unique twists on old songs and even did mash ups like I've never seen. If you didn't know those two were different songs you would have had no idea since they mixed then together SO well live!

Yelp
Music always clears the head, heals the heart, and lifts the spirits. It is more than just music. Music makes everyone feel alive. Music is being home. If you had to pick any place during a jaunt to Nashville to hear good live music, it should be here. Fantastic energy, killer local bands, and one of the best spots in the heart of downtown Broadway. With three levels and a rooftop, you have choices of where to stomp your cowboy boots to local talent. Came here on a Friday night and discovered one of our favorite bands, only to come back a second night to hear them play. Bartenders and staff are friendly and fun. Lines can get long on weekends and certainly when local faves play. Easy to snag great seats if your butt isn't moving or prefer to dance in your seat. Drinks reasonable for the area. Definitely a favorite spot and would make it regularly on my trip list. As we all know, with the right music, you either forget everything or you remember everything.

Yelp
Amazing bands, mix of crowd, plenty of levels of dance space, with great service and atmosphere
google avatar

Jamie M.

Yelp
We went around 3 pm and stayed until 7:30. We only left because we had a reservation at 8:15 on the other side of town. We had such a blast here. Both bands were awesome. No cover--bands play for tips. Alcohol is reasonably priced (that Tennessee tax is a beast) and the bartender was on top of everything. The crowd was fun and the music was great.

Larissa P.

Yelp
We came during a girls trip and the bartender Tatiana and her coworker who was blonde was insanely rude. We were on the rooftop and when I approached she said "what's up" when it came time to pay she threw my money on the table and talked to her coworker for a second then goes back to the till and gives me the rest of my money. She treated us like we were stupid and it ruined my experience. Other couples around us left as well and told us they felt the same.
google avatar

Steve J.

Yelp
Great spot with multiple floors of live music and drinks. Large selection of drinks and beers. Rooftop seating!
google avatar

Danielle K.

Yelp
We spend almost our whole day and night here! During the day upstairs on their rooftop and at night inside downstairs, both levels with their own live bands! Such an amazing bar with enough bathroom space which is hard to find on Broadway!
google avatar

Jay T.

Yelp
We always stop in when visiting Nashville. We are never disappointed as they always have great music along with great service. There are usually different floors available each with a different band. This visit had the stairs up roped off. It appeared that it may be open later in the evening
google avatar

Marioly F.

Yelp
Let just start here, the place is dangerous. I was on the 3rd floor and the bouncer physically put his hands on me. There are 20 places to choose from on Broadway do NOT go to the Stage in Broadway.
google avatar

Kimberlyq A.

Yelp
Oh my god is this so much fun Austin is this BEST bartender around. Fun vibe good drinks
google avatar

Quy M.

Yelp
We were able to catch a band and have a few drinks around lunch time when it wasn't so busy. Bartenders were attentive and quick. There's also a water dispenser towards the back along with cups for patrons to grab water as they please.
google avatar

Mark J.

Yelp
This is always one of my two go-to spots to hear live country music on Broadway while i'm visiting. The addition of the new Roof Top entertainment area is a very nice touch! Go check them out, you won't be disappointed! Best of all, No Cover Charges on Broadway!
google avatar

Julie M.

Yelp
Loved the stage! There were plenty of bars so I didn't have to wait for a beverage. The band was great. Big dance floor. The vibe was energetic and fun! Overall awesome time and place!
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
Lively bar with great upstairs as well. Highly recommend for a fun time. We did not eat but service was terrific.
google avatar

Estefania C.

Yelp
Wow so many places to pick from and ended up here. It was crazy lots of country dancing at the bottom. Music was live on both the top and the bottom. First Honky Tonk experience and man was it great. I want to come back again. The music on the top was more calm but also live. The views from the top were amazing and you can see all down Broadway. They had such great songs. Country music all day everyday. The drinks were really good. I don't really like to drink but these drinks tasted like skittles. I don't remember what the bartender gave me but her recommendation was on point! I want to come back and listen and maybe muster up the courage to dance country.
google avatar

Bob B.

Yelp
The Stage on Broadway is a great venue to listen to multiple venues of music. The 3rd floor has an intimate setting of a small band and a small room with a bar. the band playing that night was playing a 90s cover song. This floor was my favorite. On the 5th floor had a band playing to a big crowd with an outdoor patio seating. I did not stay on the 5th floor for long because of the crowds and the difficulty in getting a drink there. Plenty of security on the 5th floor to help control the "mosh pit" Otherwise great venue, easy to get a drink on the 3rd floor. I would visit again on my future trips to Nashville.
google avatar

Amy W.

Yelp
This was our first of many stops today. We were on a mission to visit as many places as we could today, as it was our last day here. The weather was cloudy but the rain was holding off until the evening and the temps were actually quite comfortable. We headed to the rooftop fist thing in the morning. We were able to sit right at the edge and enjoy the view. Today was more subdued. The live music playing inside was at the perfect volume sitting outside. Did not feel like I was yelling so that was good. Nice laid back place for a couple of cold beers. This place got very crowded in the evening hours and I noticed that to be a trend. Some places were busier during the day and others at night. We enjoyed the roof top and would definitely be back!

William Y.

Yelp
This bouncer made a friend of ours leave so he could get a girls number.... Pretty sad in my opinion
google avatar

Jenny S.

Yelp
The stage was awesome, but the bar not so much. I get that it's midnight on Broadway but I went up to order two bottled beers and the bar tender threw a menu at me and walked away to talk to the other bar tender. When my husband came up to the bar, he said it smelled like throw up and when I took a sniff I agreed. We ordered two bud lights and walked away. We didn't deserve the rudeness- we are nice people.

James P.

Yelp
Refer to my review Bad experience, never again will I go there, attempt or recommend
google avatar

Michelle F.

Yelp
They book some of the best up and coming local bands for all the patrons to enjoy. It gets very crowded when the bands are playing. Lots of funny people watching from the dancing drunk people to the groups of friends on a weekend get away where, "what happens in Nashville, stays in Nashville." Their drink prices are pretty much the same as all the other Broadway music venues. The girls/guy behind the bar looked very busy with organized chaos but they got drinks served quickly and occasionally had a second to hit the floor and pick up the empties. The security is friendly unless you do something stupid to piss them off. I would not want to be on the end of their walk out as they are very big guys who have a business and vacationers to protect. BTW, If the line is long at the front door, take a little walk around back as there is a quieter entrance there. Love the Stage!!!

Yelp
A really rare Dog friendly bar in broadway, really appreciate that when you have a separation anxiety dog.

Yelp
Had a great time. Bartenders were awesome. Owner was unbelievable. Very fun SAFE environment!!! 10/10
google avatar

Lucy T.

Yelp
This place was pretty okay! There were lots of people here when I came and a live band that was pretty good. It wasn't my favorite place on Broadway, but one I would come back to when I'm bar hopping.

Yelp
Hello Nashville The Stage!! When we first started going to Nashville a few years ago the Stage was a more quite location along Broadway that needed a little love and updating. Since then The Stage has got some Love and is our favorite stop along the path of places located on Broadway usually a first stop and last stop of the night. Saddle up and enjoy so great artist with good drink prices with a great staff.
