Can’t say enough nice things about the staff (thanks Cassandra!) - the friendly service was the highlight of our stay. The property, the rooms, and the amenities exceeded our expectations. In particular, we loved the cozy main house with the board games, fireplace, and generous happy hour. Big plus - the hotel is dog friendly (they provide a dog bed, bowls, and welcome treats). It’s also a beautiful wedding venue. We’ll defintiely be back!

My husband and I stayed at the Stavrand for two nights during our visit to Northern California. Even though it was an hour away from the wineries we were visiting, it was well worth the travel time. We would return without a doubt; it was comfortable and accommodating in all the best ways. Truly felt like an oasis. We booked late, so we’re in a basic room in the main house. While I would have loved a suite, our room was still great! Some pluses: close to Guerneville restaurants for night time activities, fire pits, beautiful grounds, very comfortable room/bathroom, cozy common area, the nicest hosts, I could actually go on. They also partner with Marimar Estates for free tastings: highly recommend. The minuses: the toilet seat slipped around off the base and there were no window coverings in our bathroom (faced directly out to the pool area). Really, that’s all I have. I’m not often a repeat visitor, but I’ll be returning without a doubt.

Emily is an incredible owner and proprietor. I love what she's doing with the property and how she manages her team members. Amazing views of the stars at night from the upper deck of our room and a lovely breakfast in the morning - whoever is cooking in there knows what they're doing! Lovely location - the smell of fresh pine is everywhere once you pull into the property.

I stayed a couple of nights with my sister on a birthday trip. The service was very nice and the location was fabulous. We were disappointed that the fireplace was not working in the main lobby and that the outdoor hot tub did not have operating jets. WiFi was spotty. We were not able to maintain a steady connection for work and streaming entertainment.

This was one of the most relaxing properties me and my husband have stayed in. Our room was so nice and cozy with french doors leading to the courtyard directly. The board games area, the lounge area was all sooo warm, beautiful and cozy. The service was very good, the front desk sent a cute tea tray to my room when I mentioned to them my stomach wasn't feeling well. We had breakfast at the restaurant within and was nice. My only regret was that my stay of one night was too short!

We stayed at The Stavrand for our wedding weekend and are so thrilled that we did! It is the most peaceful and beautiful location. With so much going on around our wedding, we were truly able to relax and decompress at The Stavrand. The team there was extremely helpful and thoughtful, leaving us an amazing wine and chocolate in our room to congratulate us and bringing champagne at breakfast for us (plus breakfast is delicious). The rooms are so comfortable and the pool and hot tub are the perfect temperature and beautiful surrounded by trees. The beds are also incredibly comfy. We will be coming back soon! Thanks for making our stay so memorable and perfect!

I had a wonderful birthday getaway here! First of all the property is beautiful. There’s lots of space to wander around, looking at beautiful trees and a meadow. From the top of the hill, there’s a spectacular view of the area and you can see it sitting on a bench swing. The staff is all very friendly, welcoming, and accommodating! my room was gorgeous. I enjoyed sitting and reading in the large lobby area with a fireplace. They have games and puzzles for you to work on, which you can do during their wine happy hour. Breakfast was awesome! I recommend the breakfast sandwich. This is a great place to have peace, quiet, calm, and beauty!

This boutique resort is a world away....yet close to the charming town of Guerneville. The rooms and public spaces are bespoke with plenty of spots to read, rest and recharge. The staff are thoughtful, professional and strive to make your experience unforgettable. Cassandra was knowledgeable about the history of the property and showed us some spaces of the resort we didn't know existed. Great experience!

Yelp
Traveling through Guerneville and we stayed here one night. What a hidden gem! This was an amazing place. It was a small luxury hotel that was nestled in the woods. Provided a quiet and calm ambience. The rooms were very nice and spacious and it had a cedar hot tub in a private patio. At night they had outdoor seating with fire pits along with free wine tasting. In the morning the hotel offered a complimentary breakfast in their restaurant. The breakfast was amazing. The breakfast sandwich was delicious along with the other treats. I will definitely be back if I am in the area.

Yelp
I was needing a getaway weekend and found this hotel. Beautiful place and details. The main house has a cozy fireplace with blankets, books and boardgames. I enjoyed the complementary wine while reading my book. My room was clean and big with a gorgeous tub. Bring your own epson salts and bubbles if you want to use it. The mini fridge was full with drinks including wine, and snakes were reasonably priced. Breakfast was included. Different options to choose from. There's a restaurant in the premises but you have to make a reservation. The food was delicious. What I didn't like were the sheets. They had a strong chlorine smell. Still water had the same taste. I couldn't sleep properly thanks to the guests upstairs making noise at 5am on a Sunday. Who is awake so early? Jeez. It's common in old houses to hear the voices and footsteps I guess. Just ask to get a top room if you have a light sleep like me. Also, when receiving the receipt on the email, it'd be better if it explained the detail instead of just the $.

Yelp
For context, we came here Thursday-Sunday with our two pups for a relaxing read and chill weekend. We've been to Guernville ~10 times prior, but it was our first time at this hotel. We really, really, really wanted to love the Stavrand and while there are some amazing parts about the property it fell short from the experience we were hoping to have. The TLDR: It would be a great place to start and end your day, but not someplace I'd recommend if you want to have a hotel vacation where you stay on-site to relax, especially if you have dogs. Poor water pressure, a broken hot tub, and limited food options (no room service or lunch service) made it hard for us to really relax while we were here. **Front Desk Staff & Restaurant Staff: 5/5 You can tell these people like their jobs and area treated with respect, because that came through with every interaction. Loved the staff and this is a hallmark of any experience, and why my review is a 4 and not a 3. **Room: 3/5 We were in room 26, a Cazadero King. It had a nice Juliet balcony with a glass enclosure looking outward was a wonderful view of the trees and downward a view of the neighbor's cedar tub/patio area. The room had a stocked mini-fridge, very comfortable bed, nice furnishings, with an open layout bathroom with sink and shower and a separate enclosed toilet. It's an old building, so there is quite a bit of sound that traveled between rooms and from the walkway outside. This wasn't bothersome for us, but something to note. The sad part and why it's not a 5/5? Very poor water pressure and very hard water. It's an old building so I wasn't expecting super soakers, but this was bad. We ended up only taking one shower while we were there (I know, I know) because we both have medium-sensitive skin and had eczema flair ups and my hair was straw. **Dog Friendly: 3/5 As other Kimpton hotels, they accommodate dogs, but it didn't seem to be a common occurrence. The staff noted many times how rarely they had dogs come and it made sense. If you absolutely needed to bring your pup, do it, but we wouldn't come here again with our pups as their presence limited what we could do while we were there. Still much better than most places, but nothing like The Sanctuary or Timber Cove for pups where it's a place to go with your pups. **Grounds: 4/5 Overall, beautiful! The upper path is well groomed and has a beautiful view of the mountains. The chef's meadow was baren, but expected during March, and is a cool part of the property. Why this wasn't a 5/5? We were feet away from being impaled by an xmas tree sized branch when on the path through the property (and immaculate and dreamy chef's meadow) to town. The last stretch of path after you exited the chef's meadow had a very unkept forested area. I cared zero about what it looked like, but it was a hazard. The area has been through a rough few years of rain, wind, and floods this patch of woods reflected much of the rest of the Guernville area and that was one of 2 branches that made it's way down on our walk. This is an issue seen all over coastal California right now. It's entirely possible they don't own that patch, but if they do just a note to the staff to check for dead trees and broken branches. **Housekeeping: 5/5 Immaculate, quick, & responsive.

Yelp
Book a room ASAP before this place gets wildly popular and featured on every travel guide list! Our wedding took place last weekend in Sebastopol and we wanted a peaceful but well thought out staycation during the festivities (we live in Sebastopol). Everything from the room, staff, and service was top-notch. Most surprising was the amazing bottle of wine they provided us and the breakfast!!! The breakfast blows away nearly all cafes I've been to recently and reminded me of my time in Melbourne Australia where cafe culture and breakfasts have a high bar. Don't miss the small holes around the property! We'd love to come back in the rainy season. *Also dog friendly, our little pup also enjoyed the stay and we appreciate them allowing friendly dogs to stay

Yelp
Found my new place to staycation. Absolutely love the trees and isolation, but close enough to the little town of Guerneville you can bike. They offer bikes you can use during your stay!Stavrand also offer so many other amenities not typical of other places. Even the pool and spa is gorgeous. You get a background of the tall trees. This is a luxury resort that's hidden away no doubt! There is a fabulous restaurant on grounds and a spa. We made s'mores in their common fire pit area and I've enjoyed working in front of their toasty stone built fireplace. The first room I had was on the main floor and had a beautiful balcony that looked out to the trees. The other room had a cedar bath tub and that was my favorite part of the stay. Waking up and going out into the brisk cold to dip into a perfectly hot tub after a night of partying. The chefs curated a dinner we picked up at 3am. The most perfect homemade pappardelle with brown butter sage. Complimentary wine tasting nightly. The Stavrand is exceptional. I'd say by far the BEST breakfast in North Bay. Also the bed!! So comfy omg. A stay here is a must.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at the Stavrand to celebrate my birthday. The staff went above and beyond to make sure our stay was relaxing and extra special. Don't miss the delicious s'mores kits! Everything is made in house and absolutely divine. They feature local wines during the evening aperitif. There is also a cute lending library and board games to play as well. We stayed in a gorgeous room on the second floor in the Belden House. We appreciated that most of the minibar items where from Sonoma County companies. The shampoo, conditioner, and lotion were also from a Sonoma County company. The property is beautiful and fun to explore. We enjoyed the short walk into town for dinner. Breakfast the next day was delectable.

Yelp
This place was such a disappointment for the price point. Every detail was missed and every penny was dimed. I would not recommend to anyone. Dinner was inedible, the hot tub was cold, even the "garden" was twigs. it was truly tragic. And I just got charged $50 for a mini bottle of wine that was outside the mini bar but apparently part of it. Nightmare.

Yelp
This place takes the cake. They were very accommodating of our families needs. From the included breakfast, great coffee, fireside s'mores and local wine happy hour, this place really nailed it. My new city life escape!

Yelp
This place is beautiful! Hands down, simply beautiful! We stayed in one if their least expensive rooms ($500 a night). The bed & pillow comfort was by far the best part of the room itself. The over night staff could be heard talking loudly with each other for hours late at night. Last I remember it was after midnight, they were still loudly chatting it up. Very annoying! I have rarely, paid $500 for one nights stay. I expected more, especially from the night staff. The bathtub water did not drain properly. Which resulted in a bathtub full of water by the time your low water pressure shower was complete. We stayed in room 8, inches from the hotels bathroom! I would think room 9 would be even noisier. I love their pool! I love their grounds! Didn't get to try the hot tub, someone had their little one with 2 innertubes in the hot tub. No staff around to say it was not appropriate for the tubes & child to consume the hot tub for the 3 hours we were at the pool. I get it, the pool is not heated. But still. Breakfast was included with our stay. It was a nice touch. Come for the atmosphere & ambience!

Yelp
In one word, FABULOUS! What an elegant addition to the Russian River accommodations. The grounds are beautiful (with a private walking path to downtown that avoids the road) . Our room was elegant both in decor and furnishings- the fireplace added some romance and heat as it was chilly up there. We didn't use the en-suite jacuzzi (could not justify the water usage). The staff was just delightful and really made our stay that much better. The restaurant was both delicious, well seasoned and presented with flair. There is an outside pool and hot tub on the premises but again, winter time was closed. With the close proximity to wineries (we went to a few) this place is an absolute gem! Very highly recommended!

Yelp
This is an amazing property, and we will definitely be going back. Everything about the Stavrand is really well thought out and well executed--sitting areas, strolling opportunities, amazing food and an uber-attentive staff. Our room upstairs in the Belden House was well-appointed, and the bed was super comfortable! Warning for those with "princess tendencies": I believe the property dates back to the 20s, so the floors, doors and stairs will creak. This was NOT an issue for us. From the moment we checked in, it felt very much like 'home'. We spent a wonderful night in front of the fireplace playing cards and games. The walk to downtown is easy, and the ride or drive to Armstrong Woods is a must-do. Dining options on the main drag in Guerneville are numerous, from casual to really fine dining (we couldn't get to Boon or Saucy Mama's in time Sunday night but Dawn Ranch served an amazing small plates menu on --beyond good!). The morning breakfast and coffee in the Stavrand Dining Hall were top tier--the NOT French Toast is not not delicious. Must have. Again, I cannot emphasize how friendly and accommodating the staff at the Stavrand is (hope you had a happy Friendsgiving, y'all). See you in the Spring!

Yelp
Wow- could not have been more impressed with this hotel. Quiet, peaceful and beautiful. Still being renovated so not all amenities were up and running- but we had been fully forewarned. Did not matter one bit though as the staff were impeccably attentive and professional, and the room very well appointed. We had a special dinner out under the trees with our 2 pooches and 6 person family group. Wines were amazing and the pairings perfect- and the food was exceptional. Don't miss out on the complementary breakfast either - the honey lavender bacon and eggs were fabulous and even the ketchup for the potatoes seemed homemade and really yummy! We felt pampered the whole stay. Thank you and kudos to this hotel's team!

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here over New Year's Eve and had an amazing relaxing vacation. The hotel has be redone recently and it is fresh and welcoming. The staff are high quality and caring people who work as a team and the whole vibe is so inviting. Amazing food. There's plenty to explore in the area: hikes, drive to the ocean, explore the little towns, plenty to do and plenty to eat. We'll be back for sure.

Albert C.

Yelp
What an amazing and magical place! The rooms were luxurious, the food was amazing, the staff were super helpful and the grounds were incredible. I especially loved the hand written notes, the packages of s'mores supplies in our room, and the ability to pick up coffee at the front office, and then take a leisurely stroll around the area and to town in the morning. My husband and I had a very romantic and relaxing stay... too short, but one that we will remember for a long time. Thanks for taking care of us, Emily & crew. You guys are incredible. Will be back for sure!

Mina S.

Yelp
Just stayed the night with our two pups, and if we had more time we would have stayed more nights because this place is a gem. From our first phone call with Emily to inquire about "dog friendly," the entire staff was the ultimate in hospitality...gracious, welcoming, anticipating needs, providing recommendations, and simply made you feel like part of the family, as if you were in their home. The recent remodel is superb. The rooms are modern and casually elegant, understated but refined, very comfortable. Little, thoughtful and purposeful details abound. The property/grounds is in excellent condition with a beautiful garden, pool and dining area. Our breakfast was on point, nicely presented and with service to match. We learned the property is under new ownership, and from our experience with only a one night stay during their "preview week", it is with no doubt that The Stavrand will easily be a world-class lodging destination.

Yelp
The best hospitality i have ever received. Breakfast was delicious, wifi is unmatched, and it is situated in the most relaxing place. Quick drive to armstrong redwoods.
