The 30 Best Restaurants in Boise, Idaho | Eater

"An acronym for Sweetest Things in Life, the name of this popular ice cream shop accurately represents its role as one of the sweetest places in Boise. During scorching high-desert summers (or any season really), a custom ice cream flavor like churro, lavender and berries, or vanilla cream cheese hits the spot at any of the mini-chain’s locations. Dairy-free and vegan options are available, as well as booze-infused flavors, all of which can be enjoyed either on their own or as part of a custom ice cream sandwich, an affogato, or a beer or wine float. Feeling indecisive? There are ice cream flights, which can be paired with a beer or wine flight as well." - Scott Ki

Google
I normally never go to ice cream places because they are so overpriced and the ice cream is just average. I recently became lactose intolerant and have missed ice cream so much. They had five different flavors of lactose and gluten free ice cream and they were all absolutely delicious. For the price to have something that genuinely tasted like regular ice cream was completely worth it. I would definitely come back here again. I tried the raspberry, mango and cookies and cream flavors. I loved them all. The gluten free cookies and cream I still dream about.

Google
What a great place to stop for a huge treat! Flights of icecream is the best invention ever! Share 8 sampling of their homemade icecream with friends. Wonderful treat! Beer and icecream flights are also pretty great idea!

Google
STIL was delicious! To have vegan and gluten free options as a majority was a nice change up from the normal. We ordered “Cookies with Grandma” (gf and vegan) which was delicious coconut with cookie pieces and “Nightcap on Eckert” which was a for those 21+ as it’s an espresso ice cream featuring cake and heath bar pieces, and is infused with kahlua. We will be back!

Google
Yes, the Stihl is awesome!! The music is great the staff is friendly and the ice cream is amazing. Do not miss this experience.

Google
Hands down the best coffee ice cream I’ve ever had. Their flavor is caramel espresso, and it’s better than any store bought coffee flavored ice cream I’ve tried so far, including Haagen-Dazs. Other flavors are really good too, The STIL definitely has it figured out. Prices are a little high (around $9 for a pint) but for this quality, it’s 100% worth it. You won’t be disappointed!

Google
So glad I discovered this little gem. I loved the homemade flavors that offered a great variety of new things to try. I took the clerks recommendation and split my single scoop into two halves. The ice cream was smooth and the flavors were subtle. I'll be back for sure!

Google
The STIL is hands down the best ice cream shop ever! They make all their ice cream in-house and offer an incredible variety of flavors. While they have a lineup of staple flavors that are always available, their rotating seasonal flavors keep things exciting. Right now, my absolute favorite is Monkey Business—a dreamy mix of bananas, peanut butter, pretzels, and Nutella. And if you can’t choose just one, no worries! A double-sized bowl lets you pick up to four different flavors. One thing I really appreciate about The STIL is that they have something for everyone. Whether you're dairy-free or gluten-free, you won’t miss out—their non-dairy options are just as rich and creamy as their classic ice creams. They even have booze-infused flavors for an extra fun twist! I do my best to stick to a healthy diet, but this place? It’s my ultimate guilty pleasure—and totally worth it.

Google
Great ice cream and awesome service. Hours are nice too. Open late so you can even stop in after a evening movie next door. Worth a try. Lots of options for many different tastes and dietary restrictions. Dairy free, nut free, and gluten free, etc.
google avatar

Amanda F.

Yelp
I stopped in for some ice cream since they had both dairy and gluten free options. I had intended on one scoop but I really loved both flavors. I thought the price was decent for scoop size. There is parking available in the back and indoor and outdoor seating. They share with Wyld Child

Cullen S.

Yelp
Great staff. Tasty, creative flavors with real ingredients. Very accommodating to dietary needs. The ice cream/drink pairings are really fun. Getting flights is also a fun option. Came back 3 days in a row while staying in Boise. Phenomenal, fresh waffle cones. It's so good, I can't even organize my thoughts. A must do in downtown Boise

Yelp
Whether you're a classic vanilla lover or adventurous with seasonal specials, there's something for everyone. Perfect for a sunny afternoon treat or a late-night indulgence!

Yelp
Such a cute little ice cream and beer shop! The guy working was so friendly and patient with us while we tried different flavors and decided what we wanted. I got the brownie batter and it was delicious! My son got a coconut cake batter (which was vegan), and loved it (and he's not vegan). The inside was clean and tastefully decorated -- and they had a complimentary water jug with cups out which was nice on a hot day to go with our ice cream.
google avatar

Yelp
Great little ice cream shop. Quick service and she didn't mind me trying more than one flavor. Being from reno the Ed and Carl take Reno was my first sample. So fun to see that!Ended up with a chocolate mocha combo. Yummy yummy!
google avatar

Dakota M.

Yelp
The ice cream I chose was Sawtooth Road-Trip (Alcohol infused) and Float Season, the flavors were really good together, and the outdoor seating was pleasant. I had a good chat with some Locals. I would like to visit this place again. And the staff were very friendly and happy to help.

Yelp
I would go back to Boise just for The STIL! Such a great place for ice cream lovers. We came in during their happy hour time (which began at 2pm). All flights are $15 during HH, which is a great deal! The employee was super nice and patient and was not bothered that we tried multiple ice cream flavors; there were just SO many good ones to choose from! He also gave suggestions about pairings with the wines and beer we got on our flight (2 wine, 2 beer, 4 ice cream). Also a flight of ice cream and either just beer, wine, or both is an EXCELLENT concept!! The ice cream was a great consistency and all of the flavors were fantastic. We settled on their Night Cap, Green Belt, Cookies with Grandma, and Picnic in the Park. All of them were delicious, but Night Cap was our favorite (forewarning it does have alcohol in it). 10/10 would recommend!!

Yelp
The STIL was busy on a Saturday night - but definitely worth stopping in at! Lots of fun flavors/combinations - but I'm a chocolate lover at heart and my ice cream was good! Not too sweet and perfectly chocolatey!
google avatar

Leah W.

Yelp
Man the ice cream at this place was so delicious. I am always comparing ice cream when I go out of town to my favorite place in omaha and this place rises to the ocasión. Great staff and I loved the restaurant itself. If I ever come back to Boise I will stop in again!
google avatar

Casey K.

Yelp
No wonder the STIL has been voted Boise's Best Dessert shop for 5 years in a row! I love that they have unique flavors all made from real ingredients. It doesn't get much better than that! They also have a lot of options for everyone including dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan flavors and their famous booze infused creations. They have a wide selection of wine and beer options. In addition to ice cream, they have fresh local espresso and sandwiches too.  I had two of their creations recently including the Idaho Wilderness with berry and lavender ice cream and bake sale ice cream. I loved both but the bake sale was a winner for me with the cookie dough, brownies and chocolate drizzle!  They have a beautiful shop in downtown Boise with seating inside as well as a great patio with umbrellas and different seating options. They have a great vibe and great product!
google avatar

Kara D.

Yelp
Nice, fresh ice cream and sorbet in a fun, family-friendly patio, which were weren't expecting. I had the wine and sorbet combo and the flavor and icy combo of prosecco and fruit were delicious, thanks for the recommendation! The kids were more than happy with their ice cream. I appreciate the interesting and unique flavors without being cloying.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream spot in Boise! They have a variety of flavors to offer (and the majority of them are gluten-free). I've tried Fresh Powder and Summer Hike, and personally loved the Summer Hike. It was refreshing and not too sweet. They have sizes ranging from "micro" to a pint, or you can even get a flight of ice cream plus wine or beer! There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Parking can be an issue, but that's expected in downtown Boise. The service was quick and friendly! Highly recommend coming here if you're in the mood for sweet treats!
google avatar

Luke M.

Yelp
Hey you can't go wrong here! Good ice cream and good times! Great flavors and sizes! Tried the coconut one and the Idaho Wilderness pretty good.
google avatar

Prima B.

Yelp
We enjoyed the ice cream flavors we ordered. Definitely unique. The staff that helped us were helpful and friendly. Unfortunately while we were outside, we tried to get the attention of the two people at the window but they continue to talk to each other even after looking at us and then one walked away. Intentionally ignored us. Very rude. Ice cream was very good, no doubt but some staff need training.
google avatar

Dolores D.

Yelp
Really good ice cream. They give you samples. I got the (licking the spoon) chocolate and the fall ey. It was so good. My sister got the fresh powder, she loved it. They also have ice cream infused alcohol.
google avatar

Yelp
STIL- Sweet Things In Life My friend and I came in and had an ice cream and wine flight. Ice cream is more my thing while wine is more her thing. There were plenty of flavors to choose from and I liked the unique names. Here is what I went with: Phat Mints- dark chocolate & fresh mint I'm Your Huckleberry- huckleberry Ed and Carl Take Reno- honey bourbon Idaho Wilderness- lavender & berries The ice cream was really creamy, but there wasn't one I particularly loved. I definitely didn't like the honey bourbon though- alcoholic ice cream is not for me. STIL seems to do well though, as they have three locations and local grocery stores carry their ice cream. What I like even more than their ice cream were the cute stickers.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
More like 3 or 3.5. Although I didn't order what it's famous for, since don't drink. This place is busy a good feeling atmosphere and has some outdoor seating. I ordered the summer hike (strawberry sorbet) It was smooth and light, but not overly sugary, which is a plus) but it just didn't seem refreshing enough in a hot night. Not to say it wasn't good, it is since I went and ordered another one (this time no waffle cone, since the first wasn't that good at all, or didn't mix well with that ice cream). I you want ice cream with alcohol it may be a different story, but if it's regular ice cream your after there are better places.
google avatar

Kelsie A.

Yelp
HUCKLEBERRY ICE CREAM. It is the reason I come to The STIL. It's is so delicious, a must try. I love the vibe of this cute little place downtown. Where else can you get beer and ice cream combo flights. Such a cool idea. You can really tell that they use quality products, the ice cream is so creamy. Not to mention their flavors are very unique. I don't think I've ever tried one that I don't like.

Yelp
We stayed overnight in Boise, Idaho during our road trip to Las Vegas. Read great reviews about The STIL so we drove to downtown to try it out since it was a hot summer day. Parking is available around the area. The STIL is connected to a food hall so there were lots of young people out on a Saturday night. There was a line but it moved relatively fast. Customers can sample only one flavor of ice cream so I tried "licking the spoon". Hubby and I shared a double cup where you can get 4 flavours and we got the following: 1. Licking the spoon - brownie batter 2. Afternoon recess - nutella pretzel 3. Fresh powder - vanilla cream cheese 4. Apple of my eye - salted caramel apple pie My favorite was "licking the spoon" while hubby liked "fresh powder". Their ice cream is dense and has somewhat of a sticky texture sort of like frozen custard. Flavours were distinct yet not too sweet but a bit heavier compared to other ice creams. Overall, it was a great place to try what Boise, ID has to offer.
google avatar

Winnie L.

Yelp
Pro-tip: They let you sample! Look closely at the freezer because some flavors were not on the menu. I got carded when I asked to sample the alcoholic ice creams. The flight of 8 ice creams is A LOT of ice cream, so unless you're in a big group, I would recommend ordering a double scoop or two and just doing several flavors within it - and trust me, I eat A LOT of ice cream. Highlights: I love being able to get a flight at any ice cream place. They have lots of flavors and some fun mix-ins as well. My favorites were probably the Easy Like Sunday Morning - Espresso and Caramel, Le Bloob - Lemon Blueberry Pie and the Carrot Cake. Lowlights: Some of them were overly sweet (beware of the Licking the Spoon - Brownie Batter and Afternoon Recess - Nutella and Pretzels), so it's hard to put down 8 scoops of ice cream. I wish you could get a smaller flight like 4 scoops instead of 8 - although a close alternative is probably getting a double scoop or two and splitting the flavors.

Yelp
Definitely one of my favorite ice cream shops I've ever tried! I come here almost every time I'm downtown. The ice cream is so good, and the service is always great. A really good experience overall. You need to try it if you haven't.
google avatar

Bryan A.

Yelp
Just great tasting ice cream. You'll find unique flavors to try before you buy so make sure to sample a few first. We are huge fans of the "Fresh Powder" (vanilla cream cheese) and the "Monkey Business" (Banana, Peanut Butter, Nutella and Pretzels) flavors but lately we do two flavors together instead of one scoop of just one. It's the best way to go. They have many other items including Cookie Sandwiches, Boozy Ice Cream and several Veganand dairy free choices too. Ice cream for any occasion or need. Give it a try.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing ice cream shop with so many fresh-made original flavors. I tried a bunch of options and the staff were friendly and knowledgable. I really liked the The Bake Sale (cookie dough, brownies and choco drizzle) and Deja Vu (Oreo, waffles cone, almond cream), but I got something with a completely different taste profile, Stary Night (orange stracciatella). It was super tasty and perhaps a bit refreshing. I sat at one of the tables inside (and they have outside seating) and watched a young woman try to eat her way through an ice cream flight.
google avatar

Regina X.

Yelp
Such a creative take on tipsy scoops! Love the options for beer / wine and icecream. Loved the flavors and friendly service. Highly recommend to stop by when you're in Boise!
google avatar

Leya C.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place for a long time, and I am glad I did! The ice-creams are delicious and the staff was nice to us. I was a tad disappointed that there were only 4 alcoholic ice-creams and that the beer selection was just IPAs and other light beer (stouts would go amazingly well with ice cream but them had none, even in winter).
google avatar

Tammi M.

Yelp
Great ice cream and friendly servers. Love the flavors and the waffle cones are fresh. You can sit indoors or outside.
google avatar

M S.

Yelp
Went here after a nice hike up Camel's Back trail, which was only 6 mins away. Ice cream was delectable paired with a glass of Prosecco. Service was prompt and the servers were very friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
First off best service I've ever had going into an ice cream shop! (And I eat a crap ton of ice cream) haha They were so happy and helpful right when I walked into the door. I tried quite a few flavors and they were super positive and totally chill about it. They also gave me some recommendations on which ice creams to try and 2 of which I got. (Almond one and PB one) sorry don't remember exact names. So thank you Amber, Paige, Macy for great service and thank you The Stil for great ice cream. Keep on rocking on
google avatar

Max S.

Yelp
Great ice cream, very cute shop, huge variety of flavors! Service was great as well, staff was quite courteous.

Lisa D.

Yelp
Cute small ice cream place. Lots of variety. They have many flavors and a great mix of unique flavors. Were there at Happy Hour. They have good value price options. Sweet counter helpers allowed us a couple samples. All options were tasty. I wanted light and refreshing in the heat. Had the boozy Lime Margarita sorbet and fresh berries sorbet. Perfect and both so flavorful. I would highly recommend!
google avatar

Bella B.

Yelp
Just tried this place for the first time. I got a brownie sundae. The brownie was old and hard. They only had caramel sauce, no hot fudge. My husband got Brownie Batter and my daughter got Marky Mark and the Crunchy Bunch and both were happy. I wouldn't bother coming here again.
google avatar

Yelp
You can have beer AND ice cream at the same time? 4 beers and 4 different scoops for $16?! Say no more! We heard The STIL is a must-visit ice cream place when visiting Boise and it did not disappoint! We came here for an afternoon cool down snack after spending 3 hour biking in the sun on the Green Belt. It was the perfect in-between meals snack. The people serving us were super helpful and knowledgeable and made great recommendations! There were so many to choose from it could be a little overwhelming if you have a hard time making decisions lol but luckily when we went (on a Thursday afternoon) we were able to spend more time with on one else behind us to pressure us. I got 2 of the dairy-free & vegan ice cream flavors and they were still creamy and flavorful! I didn't feel like I was missing out at all! The Hubby doubled-down on beers and booze-infused ice cream flavors, he really enjoyed everything! I'm also glad they wrote down the name of the drink and flavors on the flight (under the cups) since I'm pregnant I didn't want to accidentally eat the boozy ones lol! I overheard that they don't unfortunately don't give out samples to let you try, but I don't think you'll be disappointed with any flavor here . If you want to try multiple flavors at a reasonable price and add some drannnnnks to the mix to spice it up (beer or wine or a combination of both) I highly recommend the flight! The only thing I wish they had was maybe some recommendations on pairings between the beer/wine with the ice cream flavors so you can maximize the flavor blast!

Yelp
We come to The STIL every time we visit Boise. It is a MUST! They vibe is awesome, GREAT outdoor space, pet and kid friendly. My husband uses a scooter to get around, we were able to pull it in and park it out of the way even though the entire space - indoor and out - was so busy. We were there last in June, and waited in line -maybe 15 min- but it was much needed as it takes that long to narrow down flavors! And it is totally worth it. (If the line is really long when you walk up- come back in a few minutes. We saw the line 20-30 people long, and then 20 min later, only 5 people deep. Constant ebb and flow- so don't miss out!) They didn't have the flight the first time I tried it, I don't think, but it is hands-down worth blowing the diet and getting a flight! It is best shared with two people (that don't mind sharing sips and flavors). If you are in a hurry, just get a double scoop to go... but it's WELL worth it to plan a lazy 30-60 min to just sit and talk and enjoy a flight! Can't wait to visit Boise again ;)
google avatar

Jamie S.

Yelp
The STIL is a fun concept- unique ice cream flavors, boozy ice cream factors, and ice cream/alcohol flights. We tried a waffle cone and single scoop and sampled several flavors. Strawberry basil, lavender, brownie batter, and many more. Flavors rotate, $4-$7 depending on how many scoops and which type of cone you choose. We will be back to try more- and there is a Caldwell location off Indian Creek Plaza.
google avatar

Katherine G.

Yelp
Honestly was not a big of a fan of this place as i'd hoped i would be, but it was still objectively good quality ice cream. I liked how they had a mini size, which is perfect for when you want dessert but not too much. They have all their flavors written out in the wall, which you pick from. I got there brownie batter one, which was super rich and creamy. It was almost a little too heavy and I typically like really rich ice cream. I also wasn't a fan of how there wasn't any mix ins, which made it taste kind of just like plain chocolate ice cream. Maybe the other flavors are better, but i didnt see anything too special about this place.
google avatar

Kaela S.

Yelp
We went to this ice cream shop after bar hopping in downtown Boise and I'm honestly so impressed by how creamy it is! The flavors are all very unique and they offer so many of them. They even have a variety of dairy free and boozy options, which is super cool. I really like how fast the service is and the servers are happy to answer questions and offer recommendations. It's also just so cute! I really enjoy this spot.
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
Still love to stop here every time we go through Boise. Hasn't disappointed yet!
google avatar

Melissa N.

Yelp
Unique flavors and fun experience with ice cream and wine / beer flight! We picked two wines and two beers with four ice cream flavors. There's also alcohol infused ice cream!
google avatar

Andrea H.

Yelp
Best ice cream! Great place to come with kids or late night after a dinner out. Try all the flavors, they'll let you! :)
google avatar

Michelle K.

Yelp
OMG the Nightcap. My husband also enjoyed the dark chocolate with mint but didn't think it tasted like dark chocolate.
google avatar

Victoria D.

Yelp
Parking at this location was tough but the ice cream is amazing. I picked a boozy ice cream. I do wish it was a little more boozy, but the flavor was really good.
google avatar

K P.

Yelp
Ok.. seriously good ice cream. If you go a must have is the bake sale. Great ambiance and friendly staff.
google avatar

Steven B.

Yelp
Who doesnt love ice cream!? Along with the basic flavors, they have adult (21+) flavors made with liquors, very creative. I had the "Highway 1" (Vanilla Cream Ale, Toffee, Almonds, and Butterscotch). I didnt really enjoy this one as i felt it tasted a bit like flat beer with toffee, almonds and butterscotch, but i loved the creativeness. I tried the "Fresh Powder" (Vanilla Cream Cheese) and liked it much better. For me personally, i think i will stick with the regular ice cream flavors, but i applaud the creativity and encourage trying the adult flavors if you are interested. I probably should have tried a taste before ordering. They have several dairy free & vegan flavors. I would definitely come back as there are many other flavors i would like to try and it seems to be a creative flavor place!
google avatar

Rick R.

Yelp
Oh wow, this is a must if you love ice cream as much as I do! I've been lucky enough to enjoy a lot of great ice cream in my life and The STIL has to be one of the best. The flavors are rich and high quality. I had the one with huckleberry and the other with mint chocolate chip. Both the huckleberry and mint tasted very fresh- like they crushed the berries and leaves right there, straight from the plant! Service was quick and friendly which is important because the place is- understandably- very popular. Check this out next time you're in Boise!
google avatar

Randall H.

Yelp
Yea, it's good! The ice cream is decidedly an upgrade from anything at the grocery store. So rich and creamy and yum. The flavor combos and options are excellent. I enjoyed one scoop of blueberry-lemon pie and one of churro. About $8 with tax and tip.
google avatar

Amanda R.

Yelp
Amazing experience & delicious ice cream. Such a fun & cute place. Reasonably priced as well. Love the beer & wine pairings as well. The Khalua one & cookie butter -- holy shit -- SO tasty
google avatar

Brendie W.

Yelp
If you want some amazing ice cream made with the best ingredients that all diet restrictions can enjoy look no further! This place is amazing. We love coming here and enjoying all the new seasonal flavors after a long summer hike. The alcohol infused ice cream is also such a treat.
google avatar

Samantha B.

Yelp
My only complaint is that this place is in Idaho!!! I will definitely be coming here whenever I visit Idaho! I got the powered snow ice cream and I've been thinking about it since. So delicious, so creamy. Great spot for dessert.
google avatar

Loclyn T.

Yelp
A wonderful selection of vegan ice creams and great portion sizes. Not a lot of places to eat inside but plenty of spots outside with shade. Overall a nice after dinner stop.
