16 Great Martinis to Drink in Boston | Eater Boston

"Sipping a martini at a sophisticated hotel bar is a favorite pop culture trope, and you can live it at the Street Bar within the Newbury in the hotel’s ground floor. It is dimly lit, wood paneled, and well-appointed, and enjoys an enviable location facing the Public Garden. The Street Bar’s Signature Martini features Plymouth and Tanqueray gins and Noilly Plat Dry and Dolin Blanc vermouths. Vodka lovers, fear not — for The Street Bar will make you an equally delicious martini." - Anna Darrow

My husband and I stayed at Newbury, and we went here every day, if not twice, some days. We just really enjoyed the laid-back and classy ambiance. Not jam-packed with kids or young kids but more of an older crowd. We had no problems with finding a spot to sit and grabbing cocktails and appetizers. We tried their deviled eggs and oysters, which were delicious. You really can't go wrong with any of the cocktails there. Our service was top notch each time we went. G, Tyler, and there was another bartender from Bulgaria, and I didn't catch her name. They were all great and made great recommendations.

The burger wasn’t enormous, but it was VERY good. Every bite had a little bit of everything. The martini was premade, but I actually love that. I think it creates for a more consistent experience. The bartender was very attentive. I was there on a Friday around 6, but that didn’t stop him from chatting with me while making drinks.

Sat at the bar for hours. Kasey was my bartender and was quite attentive! His drinks were great. If you want to sit at the bar come earlier rather than later. Food is pricey but they can easily make all your portions shareable if you are the type that loves to split everything when dining with someone. No music and even when crowded it’s not too loud. There’s something on the menu for everyone. Expensive cocktails that are actually worth the money.

Classic cocktail bar! My new fav! The deviled eggs are delicious and the cocktails delightful! I had a Negroni Sour the first visit and a Manhattan the next. YUM!

Was excited to try this place but my wife and I left ultimately very disappointed. We had to wait for about 10 -15 minutes to be let in which we were fine with, but once inside the service was horrible. The bartender Tyler wouldn't even acknowledge you unless you were seated directly at the bar which only holds about 7 or 8 people. This on top of extremely overpriced drinks and little ambience (fireplace not on on a freezing cold Saturday night?) left us very frustrated. You'll have a far better experience at the Lenox hotel right around the corner.

Laughably expensive for what you get. Go there if someone else is paying or if money is truly no object to you. Also, they're golden from Newbury Hotel customers so they have no obligation to give you good service. There will always be more business in the future. Case in point, last night an alarm went off for about 30 straight minutes. It took 15 for someone to explain what was going on. Maybe a free drink or dessert could have been a peace offering. Nahhhhhhh...

I have a friend who went to university in Boston, and every time I visited, we made sure to stop by this bar at least once or twice during my stay. The location is truly unbeatable — beautiful surroundings and everything you could possibly need just a short walk away. The crowd is always great, creating a welcoming and lively ambiance that makes the experience even better. Although I’ve never tried the food in the 5–7 times I’ve been there, the drinks alone keep me coming back. I still vividly remember the "Leave It To Me" — easily one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. The bartenders here are incredibly skilled and professional, and it’s a treat just to watch them work. You also can’t go wrong with the timeless Martini or a classic Cosmo — both executed to perfection.

Nice, classy ambiance. Truly the staff was SO kind and professional, they really set an excellent standard. The dessert was so-so, texture was a little grainy for a cheesecake, but the drinks were perfect. Pigs in a Blanket were great, and the burger was also really nicely done. The bar manager, Eric, was incredibly kind and even let us sample a special drink. Highly recommend The Street Bar & can’t wait to be back with friends!
