Cool little spot around Main Street area. Awesome staff and amazing food. Had the Bison burger, with duck fried fries, side salad and salted caramel cheesecake. Highly Recommend this spot and the service from the staff there was top notch. Absolutely amazing.💙👍🏼

Google
The food is absolutely amazing and unique. High quality food. You can taste that it is prepared with love. The presentation is amazing. The atmosphere is very nice, especially when dining outside. A table that we had had a very nice fire ambience in the center of it. Just a wonderful experience. I really feel that it was priced accordingly just based on the food, quality, flavor & presentation alone. I would highly recommend the shrimp appetizer, and the fried green beans. The duck that fries were possibly some of the best fries I ever had in my life. Very filling, a great appetizer when there’s several people at the table for sure. I got so satisfied that I was full off the appetizers for my meal came I can only take a couple bites. I enjoyed it later on that evening for sure. Extremely clean bathrooms along with the restaurant in general, including the outside grounds. Parking is a little difficult and you more than likely will have to park on the street. I won hundred percent endorse and recommend this location for a fantastic meal.

The string bean was recommended to us by our realtor. While the waitress was nice and service was quick, we did not enjoy our food. I ordered the fish and chips and it was the worst I’ve ever had. The batter was very thick and the fish/batter were over cooked. Basically burnt. The fries looked like it came out the bottom of the bag because all I had was small hard pieces. The tartar sauce was bland. I didn’t eat most of it. My dad had the shrimp and grits and said the grits were bland but the shrimp was fine. He didn’t finish his food either. The best thing we had was the pimento cheese and crab dip appetizer. I wouldn’t go back because if you mess up on fish and fries then I don’t trust anything else.

My daughter made reservations to sit outside at a table with a fire pit, very cozy. A variety of food was ordered. A shrimp appetizer was good. Steaks, a filet and a NY strip were cooked med rare and delicious. Mahi Mahi fish tacos, delicious. A chicken wrap was yummy. A panini sandwich was good and a child ordered the corn dog pops. Even with the restaurant being busy the service was good and the food was brought out in a timely fashion. The food prices were comparable to other restaurants in Belmont. The String bean is always consistent in the quality of food they serve. We will definitely be going back.

The food, service and atmosphere here have up to this point (several visits) GREAT. Today we were seated in one of the two "booths" in the nook near the front door on the right opposite the beer coolers. Seating on the end of the table is very tight and somewhat uncomfortable because the table leg is only about 8" from the edge of the seat. The bench itself is cushy and comfortable but half way through my meal I had to move to the chair to my left. Of the two booths in this book, we were seated at the one on the left as you enter the nook. The table itself could also use a refinishing as it still feels "sticky" even after being wiped down twice. All in all this won't prevent us from visiting again but if we are with a larger party, I would sit outside in the summer heat rather than at this spot.

We stopped by for an early dinner on Saturday and since we had our pup with us, we stayed outside on the patio. Great atmosphere, friendly service and excellent food! You must try the duck fat fries, scrumptious!!! (My only pit peeve… if you ask me how I want my burger cooked and I say medium, don’t bring me well done.)

Google
It was a great dining experience. It was a girls night casual dinner. When we arrived we were seated right away. Our server, Kai, was excellent and very helpful with all of our menu questions. Our menu choices were tasty and delicious!

Chelsea R.

Google
Good food but the worst service ever. Just a heads up the servers will try to cheat you on your bill especially if you have 8 in a group. They need a new manager at night as well because the one on duty wouldn’t even speak to us when we called for a manager. The waitress was trying to split our bill 4 equal ways which makes no sense that would be you paying more then you actually owe. They have done single tickets before but couldn’t even fully give me an answer on why we couldn’t tonight.. it’s because waitress was trying to get a big tip. We were told it’s policy and even states it on menu which it doesn’t it only states gratuity is added for 8 or more in a party. So again awesome good but people be aware that the wait staff and night manager is trying to make up their own rules. We will not be back.

Yelp
The food was amazing. Everything we got was good. Appetizers fried green beans and mahi mahi bites both were great. We had burgers probably one of the best burgers I've had. My wife had chicken tinders Daughter in law had shrimp noki. Service was great server was very nice and explained everything very well. The food came out in the correct order drinks appetizers the main course. With a good amount of time between. We didn't feel rush. It was a great experience. The ambiance was homie not fancy but nice. I'll go back just for the burger.

Yelp
Service was great and food was very, very good except for my fish being a bit overcooked. The fish itself was delicious, but the crust was a bit burnt. I tried my dining companion's fried eggplant and it was amazing. I shared the fish and chips and the figalicious flatbread with my friend and we were both happy (except for the little bit of burnt taste to my fish). My friends enjoyed the veggie burger and another order of fish and chips that looked less brown than mine was. All in all, good food, great service and lots to offer! Amendment: the staff was so friendly and I saw that they had so much more to offer as I was on my way out of the restaurant that I had to upgrade my review to 5 stars! The fresh fish and seafood, the meat and cheese, and all the wines offered for sale were wonderful. The staff happily posed for a picture. Love this!

Yelp
The food is always delicious. The ambiance is always pleasant. Service is always quick and with a smile.

Yelp
Food is horrible. I ordered a burger and it tasted like it had liquid smoke in the meat. I literally could not take another bite, it was so bad. The manager allowed me to exchange it for another sandwich. So, I ordered a reuben sandwich and it was dripping in grease. I ate it without saying anything because, at this point, it was hopeless. We ordered the fried string beans, and they were decent. Our waitress was more interested in talking to her other waitress friends than in serving us. Then, I go to use the restroom and there are NO WOMEN'S RESTROOMS !!! Only 2 unisex restrooms. What are we in a gas station in timbuktu that just lets anybody in willy nilly ? Ewwww that is so nasty ! This is a restaurant. I will not be returning.

Yelp
This place is like a little bottle shop and butcher, and then there's a casual restaurant in the back. I wish we'd sat on the patio, as I believe there's live music til 9 on Fridays. But we had trouble understanding the hostess and ended up sitting inside. All good! The booths could use some new cushions but we were happy. The space has a bar area and some tables. Food menu was sandwiches and then there were some entrees. I really enjoyed my gnocchi and had lots of leftovers. My partner chose the red corvette burger and would he liked but didn't love. I will say, the zucchini fries were so yummy and I would get them again every time. This was a nice little spot in Belmont, on that main little area of town, close to the parking lot. We popped in after listening to music in the park and it was the perfect date night. Happy with the experience!

Yelp
We recently came to the String Bean for a late lunch. They have a very interesting menu, with a lot we wanted to try! What we had: Pimento cheese appetizer - the pimento cheese was very good, it was the thick consistency that I like and had plenty of pimentos for a great taste. Bison Quesadilla - I had this for my meal and it was very filling, and good. I will say it is full of bison, beans, corn, tomatoes, and jalapenos, but really lacked cheese compared to a traditional quesadilla, which made it fall apart pretty easily. It really needs cheese to help it bind together. I'd still get this again. Red Corvette - my husband got this with the traditional cowpig patty instead of the angry cowpig patty. He said he really liked his burger. Service was slow and a drag. It took a while for drinks to be refilled and had to ask for assistance multiple times from other servers to get our server in order to pay. With that said, I'd still come back to check out other menu items.

Yelp
Great food and an amazing market await you at The String Bean. It is tucked in the heart of downtown Belmont in a great spot. There is not a lot of parking, but this place is a real gem and well worth the time.

Yelp
We visited The String Bean in Belmont for an early Mother's Day lunch. The atmosphere was nice, and the staff was polite, but overall the experience was a bit underwhelming. For a restaurant with a veggie-inspired name, the vegetarian options were limited, just two, which was a little disappointing. The food didn't quite meet expectations. My husband's fries were cold and soggy, even though he asked for them extra crispy. My son's quesadilla came out cold, and the cheese had already started to harden. My panini was supposed to include roasted tomatoes, but instead had large chunks of uncut tomato ends. The manager did come by to check in and was very kind. He comped my sandwich and brought out a fresh batch of fries, which my husband enjoyed much more. Unfortunately, I found out after tasting them that they were cooked in duck fat, which was fine for my meat-eating husband, but not for me. I appreciated the effort to make things right, but it just wasn't the experience we were hoping for on a special day. It may be a better fit for others, but we probably won't return. We'll be sticking to the pizza place that shares the same building.

Yelp
The food is always great. The duck fat fries are amazing and I've been getting them every visit for the past ten years. Their waitstaff is always fast and friendly and always recommend new items and brews. Whether you choose to eat inside or outside, the ambiance is always great. Fire pits in the fall and winter and a fresh market year round add to the great experience!

Yelp
Great food and a fun eclectic atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this place Service and good food make the place

Yelp
Always happy to modify orders, friendly and helpful staff (many of whom have worked there for years - very knowledgeable). Great wine and beer shop!

Yelp
Nice! Loved the outdoor area. Food was delicious and they had a good variety of canned beers and wines.

Yelp
Delicious take-out lunch options. My husband was in a nearby acute rehab center nearby for several weeks and this food made me happy!

Yelp
I have been to The String Bean a few times now and each time it has been amazing each time. It can get busy so if you really want to make sure you don't have to wait make a reservation. The service is excellent and the food and drink selection to take home is almost as good as their dine in menu. I have had a bunch of things off the menu and I love the burgers, sandwiches, and their delicious French Fries. Great selection of beer on tap as well.
google avatar

Carol T.

Yelp
I bought 2 ribeyes from them and a crab cake. $40. Got home to prepare it and it was a pile of grease and fat and each ribeye had 1-2 ounces of meat. 95% fat! We had to prepare something else for dinner. Nobody wants a plate of fat for a meal.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped here while passing through town. she had eaten here before and suggested that we try it. I always like trying new places but in this case it was a bust. From a food point of view it was really good. I got the Cowpig and was really happy with my choice. My 1 star review comes from the service. Honestly it was really bad. This is not a big place, but it was very clear that our waitress didn't enjoy or want to be at her job. We struggled to get refills, or just basic service. Because of this I would not come back.
google avatar

Yelp
What a cool place. Outdoor seating, indoor booths and a table for large groups. It's a butcher counter with a large selection of craft beers and ciders with a restaurant. Board menu with something for all. Everyone in our group of ten had something different and everyone gave it a . Our waiter was very attentive and did a wonderful job. Everyone enjoyed a nice conversation which the noise level was relatively low for an open area. We all would go back as six of us were from other state visiting for the holiday weekend. The locals will for sure be back as it's just that cool and the food was so good.

Yelp
The atmosphere was great. I love that they have tables with a fire pit! It was lovely outside with beautiful greenery! I ordered the Turkey croissant sandwich. It was large and I had to cut it in two to eat it. The turkey Croissant was Fabulous!! I also purchased a premium side of Caesar salad. I wasn't a fan of the dressing so I took one bite and didn't finish it. My dinner partner Got the chicken dumpling Gnocchi and she loved it. My other dinner partner got the Belmont chicken sandwich and she loved it as well. I will tell you I was surprised the waitress was a bit short and unfriendly. Not sure if she was having a bad day or something was going on but she made a couple of snappy remarks toward us when we asked a couple of questions about stuff on the menu. The food was great the atmosphere was wonderful! I am sure the waitress was probably just having an off night. I would go again!
google avatar

Rob G.

Yelp
The service today was fantastic! Chelsey brought our pup a beef bone that they have. This thing was huge and only 4 bucks. The duck fat fries will make you sing especially if your drinking a nice perni with it. Dog friendly outside, good service and good beer. Fantastic!! Gluten-free buns available to sub for sandwiches and burgers. Fries seem safe, I'll update if I die.

Yelp
We visited a few times before so I know it was overdue for a review. It was a breezy spring evening so we sat outside at the front of the restaurant. There are a few tables there but even more around back at the parking lot. The back parking lot tables would likely be quieter since they would have less street noise from cars going by. I ordered the chicken dippers and it came with fries. She had the burger and fries. Then we shared the fried Oreos with a scoop of ice cream for dessert. All were excellent. We were the only ones sitting outside at the front but our server was great and didn't forget about us. This is a cute spot in Belmont and it's great that you stop in after and pick up some wine and meat for tomorrow' night dinner!

Yelp
The food and service both have been on a steady decline. Last nights visit was again a total bomb. Our second try in 2024 that was a total disappointment. In May we decided to go and sit outside since it was a beautiful evening. Our waiter had trouble with his electronic device and we waited 45 mins for the appetizer to arrive. After sitting another 40 mins I asked if we could just have our order boxed to go. Surprise! The order was never fired. The owner turned to tell the hostess "just take the dinner orders off and charge for the appetizer". I was taken aback by his total lack of giving a damn that we had sat for 90 mins with just an appetizer. Last night we were seated, and before sitting down luckily we noticed broken glass on our chairs. There was no one seated outside which should have been a red flag. We did get our food and it was not worth leaving my house for. I would never serve food that looked like that to a guest at my house. The fries were obviously thrown back in the fryer for a second or possibly third time. Our waitress was missing in action so I called in to the restaurant so we could get our check and leave. When she came back to the table I told her to let the kitchen know it's obvious they are sending out food that's been reheated and they need to clean the oil. She said "oh yes, I've been hearing this all night. I'll let my manager know because lately it's been an issue" alrighty then ... there won't be a next time.

Yelp
This is a review on the retail part of String Bean. Every time I go in here looking for fresh cut steaks or fish it is a miss. It is always about the service. Today was no exception. Walked in, staff member sitting at table says how ya doin. Nice start honestly. Get to merchandiser start looking someone says can I help you. I reply that I want to see what they have first. In the 32 seconds it took for me to figure it out some guy walks in and just takes over the place. He had a special order of a double rack of something and after 10 minutes of back and forth between he and now the only other person behind the counter I walked out. I went straight to Saltwater fish on New Hope and was immediately acknowledged and taken care. Happy to pay the extra 7$ a pound. I like the restaurant. Food and services is always good. I will not stop in there to buy from retail side ever again.

Yelp
Food to service was amazing. Patio seating was cozy and comfortable. We had a great night!
google avatar

Yelp
Their burgers are great, not just one, but all of them. Large variety available Lots of on tap beers, but I don't drink. Service was very good and it was a pleasant experience
google avatar

Diane W.

Yelp
Service was great and quick. We sat outside at their dog friendly patio. Super cute patio and indoors is a bottle shop plus additional seating. We ordered the chicken salad sandwich with sprouts and the caprese panini with a side Caesar salad. The Caesar dressing was delicious! The pesto on the caprese could've been more flavorful, it's clearly handmade but it's not chopped super finely like most pestos. Chicken salad was good and so were the sprouts.

Yelp
I came into town for a visit and my friends couldn't wait to take me here. We walked in and they had a wide selection of wines to choose from. They even had my favorite Rośe from a winery in New York. We got a bottle and the waitress was super attentive and offered her favorite selections when it came to appetizers and entrees. I ordered the scorers panini and added the roasted chicken. I upgraded to the eggplant fires. I loved the sauce that came with the fries and kept dipping my sandwich into the sauce. Overall the food was delicious and I can't wait to go back and try other items!

Deborah L.

Yelp
We were not sure after reading the reviews but this is a really cute restaurant with a lovely outdoor patio (dog friendly). Chris our server was prompt and friendly. The food was unbelievably delicious, fresh and well prepared. I would definitely ignore some of the negative reviews. We are 'foodies' and hard to please but we'll be back for sure!!!

Sydney B.

Yelp
Grace was such a great waitress, and the food was yummy. I got the Belmont Burger. Would recommend!
google avatar

Dulcie G.

Yelp
The String Bean Fries were amazing along with sauce provided. The Salmon Tacos were very good, very filling (3 of them) . My daughter had the Shrimp Gnocchi and enjoyed it.
google avatar

Yelp
The entire place was a fun and laid back vibe. Everyone working was super friendly and the food was delicious. I sat at the bar and got a sour beer, fried green tomatoes and a chicken wrap with duck fat fries. The fried green tomatoes and duck fat fries were divine. I definitely recommend!

Yelp
Such a great little local spot in Belmont! The String Bean boasts a fantastic food menu, a great variety of wine and beer, and both indoor and outdoor seating. They also have a market and butcher shop in the same space so you can get meat, seafood and wine and beer to go! It's one of my favorite spots to take out of town guests or to grab food with my fiancé. Love love love the food here! The menu is pretty extensive and includes some great apps, sandwiches and southern style entrees. I'm obsessed with their Jive Turkey salad. It is huge and loaded with turkey, cranberry goat cheese, walnuts and veggies with a honey mustard vinaigrette- yum! My fiancé always gets the Southwest Chicken Wrap. We love their sweet potato fries on the side. Their burgers and flatbreads are always yummy, too! Definitely check out The String Bean if you are in the Belmont area! It's a hidden gem with so many delicious options and the staff is always very pleasant. We will be back soon!

Yelp
Went and finally tried this place. Not again, though. Got there, and the place is small, loud, and was almost like a store instead of a restaurant. We ordered, which took right at an hour to get food. Got the food, and I ordered salmon and side salad. Although very small, the salmon was good, but the salad again was extremely small, like a side salad would be, but was charged $16, The total bill of $84 wasn't worth that. A store is trying to be a fine dining cost but a store quality. Online also states there are diet options, but nothing GF on the menu or marked. Beware when eating there. I have been sick all night.

Chris J.

Yelp
Parked in their lot by accident! And 6 went in, wonderful experience tonight. Fast, efficient service, ordered drinks and appetizers. Has great beer selection, chicken fingers were great, bison quesadilla and a crab cake all excellent. Would highly recommend this place.

Baronvon D.

Yelp
Ordered a Turkey sandwich. The food was good sat inside. This is a place to go if it's 65 degrees and higher. They have nice seating outside with fires on the table. Inside though is a deli station and takes away from the bar ambience. Service was good.
google avatar

Yelp
The food wasn't the best but it was tasty. The waiter was offended that I didn't love the shrimp and grits. He kept insisting that these were the best in Charlotte. They were not too my taste. However, he wouldn't leave us to eat our meal and wanted to prove to us that we were not appreciating the fine cuisine. It was so loud and the dining room was extremely tight. They hostesses were so very sweet!

Emily W.

Yelp
If you are in DownTown Belmont looking for an enjoyable dinner, maybe try another spot. Poor Service. Poor Management. Avoid getting the Blackened Fish tacos- First time in Downtown Belmont and chose to eat at The String Bean for dinner. Immediately upon entering there was clear confusion & frustration between the host staff and other guests being seated. This set a poor tone. Our waitress took some time getting to us to provide drinks so we were ready to order on her first visit. I noticed confusion at the table behind us where a bigger party was seated regarding the items on individuals checks. Once our food arrived by a separate food runner we were unsatisfied with the amount of fish given with the tacos. We are reasonable people, it could have been resolved easily. But the waitress did not attend our table again until bringing the check, so we had to opt for getting the attention from another server who was not friendly or eager to help us out. We just simply asked for our server or the manager in hopes to 1. See if the amount of fish provided was normal & if so 2. Ask for an additional side of fish even if needing to purchase it. Minutes later the manager came over with a short and defensive attitude, failed to resolve the issue, and didn't even acknowledge our empty glasses on the table. We are a younger couple, and can't help but wonder if we were not attended to with fairness because of this.

Note S.

Yelp
I ordered a gift card. I was double charged. I called and asked if 2 cards had been sent and they could not answer me. After investigation, yes they sent 2. They did NOT do the proper thing. They notified the recipient after I told them not to, canceled the second card and credited me. I said not to. I am so angry and embarrassed to have the person receive a card then take it away. Worst customer service ever. I was told oh this happens. What? They need to swollow the money and leave the person with card Horrible management . Stay away from gift cards!

Yelp
Service has really gone down hill. My last two visits has been a through disappointment. I've left reviews on google and received no response. I'm a local to Belmont and SB was a go to place. No longer...
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
Service is excellent. Everyone on staff very accommodating and helpful. The gentleman helping out with the alcohol selection was knowledgeable and found the perfect drink for my husband. There is a $2 up charge on in house alcohol which is odd. The sweet potato fries are delicious but both my husband and I found our sandwiches were a bit bland. Great portion sizes and very nice atmosphere.

Yelp
Atmosphere was very chill. Staff was great and food was good! Wish I could have tried more! Neat spot

Yelp
Coming from Gastonia we stop in Belmont to grab a bite at The String Bean.First it was raining so outside was out of the question.Just in the door The String Bean is a sorta long narrow building. To your left a row of booth's small high tables and the bar which host their craft beers. To the left far end some really nice quiet tables for a little more private dining experience. Also a very full choice of what appeared to be an extensive wine choices.Right in the very middle just behind register The String Bean sells choice cuts of Ribeye,Filets,Salmon, chicken,Bacon from Wisconsin ( that was 14.99 a lb) Scollop's and their loaded baked potatoes. No onto our meal.During our drink order looking at their menu I requested their deep fried pickles.Sure glad I did.It was a thick slice dill pickle that came with some ranch. We both ordered a burger that was an 8oz patty with the Wisconsin bacon crumble up in the meat.I got their hand cut fries. My son got their duck fries which I later learned was cooked in duck oil. They both came out with what appeared to be a course ground Sea Salt.Fries where great.Or burgers where cooked to order. Both had Let Tom and The String Bean's signature sauce. If I had just thought to get grilled onions. These burgers where great to the last bite. Our experience was great.

Yelp
Great location, but parking can be tricky on this side of downtown Belmont. Food is a tad overpriced for the quality (expected better based on word of mouth recommendations from friends who've lived in the area for years); the shrimp and grits will "put hair on your chest" from the amount of pepper. (Have learned to get satiate my shrimp and grits cravings at another downtown Belmont establishment.) But, overall, the atmosphere and interior design are fantastic. Only wish I could still drink wine -- they seem to have an excellent bottle selection to shop from!
google avatar

Sharon S.

Yelp
This place is a gem! Must visit in Belmont! Staff was very nice & service was on point. I loved that they had their own meat counter & the vibes inside were so cute. String lights everywhere, cozy & casual. We sat outside which was also really clean & they had fire pits outside for tables (such a nice touch). I ordered the Belmont Chicken Sandwich which was really good. I recommend with the spicy sauce. Will most definitely be coming back to try more food/drinks!

Yelp
Interesting place that is part beer shop, butcher and restaurant. The name does not suggest the type of food they serve which is more burgers, sandwiches, and pizzas. They do have some interesting takes on southern dishes like chicken & dumpling gnocchi. The parking is limited so be prepared to do a bit of walking. They were serving brunch on our visit but prices seemed a bit too high so we opted for the regular menu. We got the cowpig burger with sweet potato fries and string bean bistro burger with pasta salad. I ordered my burger medium but came out well done so it was dry. No issues with my wife's burger and it was the better tasting of the two. Our server was great and he took care of the mishap from the kitchen. Great food and drinks.

Yelp
We love it here!!! It is one of our regular spots and never disappoints. The food is so yummy, great beer and we love sitting on the patio!! Also great to run in and grab a bottle of wine for a gift or party!!

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal! They use top quality products, much of it sourced locally and season it correctly. I encourage you to give them a try if you're ever near Belmont NC.

Yelp
Me and wife wanted to have date night and we decided to head down the street in Belmont to The String Bean. Upon arriving I noticed that that everyone was sitting outside so I was going to be extremely comfortable. When walking in they have local beers set up in coolers and on the shelves which was great for me. We were seated and I started enjoying my beer and we ordered our food. My wife ordered the cowpig burger which she absolutely loved and I ordered a fried chicken wrap with sweet potato fries. The wrap was SOOOOO delicious and filling that my wife even commented that she hasn't seen me make a face like that in a while. I'll definitely be back for both the beers and the food. COVID is really messing up my reviews but whatever.

Cletis M.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting this location. Its in downtown Belmont NC and the mainstreet area is very vibrant with numerous shops and eateries. I was part of a party of 3 and when I arrived the other two members were already seated in a comfortable patio area outside. Our waitress was "Samantha S" and she came to our table quickly and took.pur order. Although she did seem attentive she did incorrectly record my order. I ordered a burger; "The Cowpig". 8oz Bacon infused Certified Angus Beef blend patty, pepper jack, lettuce, tomato, chipotle mayo, brioche bun. The entree that our waitress brought was " The Chickenpig" Crispy chicken breast, pepper jack cheese, pepper bacon, lettuce, tomato, chipotle mayo, brioche. Samantha didn't offer to retrieve my correct order but only stated, "It's really a good sandwich". I opted to try the Chickenpig sandwich and it was good but nothing special. The chicken was plentiful and the bacon was a nice accompaniment. Overall the experience was positive but not exceptional. I'll likely return if given the opportunity.
