"An Old Town Alexandria hotel just reopened its craft cocktail lounge, this time with live piano music and a menu that builds upon Mesoamerican culinary traditions. The Study sits inside Morrison House, an Autograph Collection by Marriott hotel, on King Street. Lead bartender Emmanuel Pressley is whipping up drinks like “Beautiful Little Fool” a twist on on a New York Sour with a Malbec Float, or the “Giving Tree,” which spikes an Indian Lassi drink with basil-infused Citadelle gin and green chartreuse. Executive chef Tomas Chavarria turned to his heritage for The Study’s menu, using Mesoamerican techniques like smoking and curing meats over open fire, showcasing ingredients from Mid-Atlantic farms. Musicians from Bialek’s Music will play the piano in The Study’s bar area every Thursday through Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m." - Tierney Plumb

"The quaint Old Town hotel’s new restaurant offers an all-day selection of fresh seafood, local produce, and high-quality butcher cuts from chef Peter McCall. The bar draws inspiration from a bygone era, using smoked beef tallow-infused Woodford Reserve and rosemary-infused Aperol in its cocktails." - Tierney Plumb

My wife and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at The Study and as usual it exceeded our expectations. Our waitress, Grace, was superb and our dinner was delicious. Chef Mandy, a graduate from the CIA - Culinary Institute of America, came out and introduced herself to us and ask if we enjoyed the meal that she had prepared. We both decdided to try the tasting menu which is offered on Thursday nights and we were delighted that we made the right choice. The Hamachi Tiradito was exceptional and the dry-aged seven hills strip loin perfectly prepared. The icying on the cake was the old school New Orleans piano player/singer who filled the room with his Ray Charles voice. If you are looking for a nice upscaled intimate setting to celebrate a special occassion this is definitely a must do.

CIA graduate and sous chef MADELINE GUZMAN is simply amazing, her quite and unassuming demeanor stands in stark contrast to her bold and bespoke dinning menu. Bartender EMMANUEL PRESSLEY is a creative genius behind the bar and clearly takes pride in his carefully curated cocktail selections. Treat yourself to a wonderfully elegant pedagogical experience at "The Study", and BOOK immediately.

We went for restaurant week and it was totally worth it! Everything we had was so good. The drinks were also amazing. Definitely recommend the bread and butter app and the short rib lettuce wrap. The steak entree and the catch of the day were so good. Some of the best steak I've had in old town! Will definitely go back at some point.

Google
The atmosphere (live piano music) and service (descriptive, helpful, attentive) stood out on our visit. The food was well prepared and creative, but several of the flavors just didn't quite mesh. Sometimes flavors cancelled each other out or overpowered one another, which was a shame because everything was beautifully cooked and prepared. Would recommend trying this place out regardless due to the pleasant atmosphere and cocktails.

Google
An elegant hotel bar and restaurant with classy ambience and incredible food and drinks! The food menu was somewhat limited at the bar, but good vegetarian options and the couple of appetizers we tried were excellent. String and aesthetically pleasing drinks, too. The service was a bit slow on a busy Friday night, but the bartender was superbly professional. Can’t wait to go back!

Google
Pleasant cozy atmosphere. Ordered the mahi-mahi and some vegetable dishes. Everything was good and I appreciated the dishes leaned on the healthy side. The service was fast and friendly. Very limited vegetarian options, overall this place is heated toward omnivores. Had a nice cocktail later in the lounge. Great live music in the bar, that piano player was fun.

Located inside the Marriott Hotel in Alexandria, The Study is truly a hidden gem Although the restaurant as listed as being American cuisine, in my opinion it boasts more Latin fusion! For example Turnip Ceviche, Scallops Tiradito, Korobuta Pork Belly and that's just a few highlights from the menu. Executive Chef Thomas Chavarria has done an AMAZING job with the menu!! Decorated to perfectly fit its name - The Study is a great spot for cocktails, as well as a great meal. The food was all packed with amazing fresh flavours, as were the drinks!! This is a definite must-visit... Perfect for date nights, a special occasion, a business meeting or causal dining.

The Study was a pleasant surprise if you stay at the hotel. Most hotel restaurants aren't that good and are over priced. What the Study is trying to achieve for the price is out of the ordinary in a good way. They have the right people and the ambiance is there. Unfortunately, the food and service fell short of my expectations. The location is nice and the Study feels like a cozy place to get a bite with a loved one. There were two other couples there and six in the bar. I was really impressed with the staff's demeanor. Everyone was friendly and easy to talk to. However, there were some major service issues. (Before we get to the food) The service overall was extremely slow. We ordered two drinks on the menu. One was made incorrectly and it took twice as long to get the correct one. I placed an order for two appetizers, two entrees and asked for them to come out as they were ready. There was a ten minute gap between appetizers. And what seemed like a fifteen minute gap between the last appetizer and our first entrée. The second round of drinks didn’t come till we were ordering desert. But my first drink was gone with the second appetizer. There were no more than twelve customers total. The wait time did not make any sense. We ordered the hamachi, the lobster and potato, pork belly and seafood stew. Followed by the sweet corn tequila desert and the tres leche cake. The Hamachi was dull in flavor. The smoke flavor was there and you got some acid. It just needed salt and I got nothing from the passion fruit mayo. The lobster potato dish was very small in portion size, but was one of the best dishes. The lobster claw seemed like an after thought. There was no buttery flavor and had an overcooked texture. It came on a plate with some wilted micro greens. You'll see these greens on everything. The potato came with a little scoop of caviar in a very flavorful broth. It truly wasn't just a potato but that's what I'm calling it. This was my favorite dish of the night. I would order it again and ask to pay more for an entrée size portion. The pork belly had a gamey pork taste to it. It should have been marinated and or soaked in buttermilk to pull that tast out. If it was what I ordered for myself, I would have sent it back. The pork was also not crispy, it was soggy. It was almost like it had been sitting, because the mash or pureed potatoes underneath were cold. The cold potatoes and snow peas were the best things on the plate. The seafood stew was good and bad. I love grilled octopus and this had a decent portion size of it. The broth or soup was bland and I added salt to it as I did with the hamachi. The catch of the day/ fish was dry and overcooked. It looked like my wilted micro greens. The clams, shrimp, scallop and potatoes just all lacked flavor. Even though it appeared that some of these things were cooked separately before being added together. Thus, the reason my octopus was still slightly crispy and had a nice char taste. The presentation of this dish was nice. Last, the deserts. The sweet corn tequila desert could have been great. The server poured a few spoonfuls of tequila on the desert while it was lit. That would have been fine. But he poured the rest of a small cup on to it. The alcohol was not able to fully burn off, because of the cream that was in the bowl. It completely destroyed the cream. I asked for another bowl and another serving of cream, which they kindly brought out. They should have remade it. I took a bite of the cake and it was also done by the tequila. What I didn't like at this point, was that my server tried to imply that I did something wrong. And that it was supposed to taste that way. It tasted like tequila. You can see it in the picture. The other dessert was fine. I noticed that they are using the same cream for 2 different desserts. It's not a true tres leche cake. I would order the sweet corn dessert again without the tequila. I would not order the tres leche. Total 160. Will not return, but they have potential.

Yelp
The best bar in Old Town, hands down, and I've been to all of them. This bar competes with the best bars in DC. The drinks are imaginative. No short cuts. For the true cocktail enthusiast.

Yelp
Stylish bar and restaurant that is part of a nice hotel tucked away in Old Town Alexandria The chef is Costa Rican, so much of the menu is inspired by this type of cuisine. Portions are fairly small and very pricey as well, but the food and our drinks were all very tasty. We also got a tiny bite-sized amuse bouche that was pretty good as well I came here with my GF for dinner on a Saturday night. We were seated in the dining area, and we were glad that this was the case as the bar area has a piano player/singer that made it very loud. This being said, there was only one other party in the dining area even though there were no other reservations available (which was strange) Our waiter was very friendly and attentive, but he had an extremely thick accent that made him hard to understand at times

Courtney R.

Yelp
I had a great experience here during restaurant week. The food is good, not great but the service is excellent. Leo was amazing, helpful and kind. The coconut rice has charred, shaved coconut and coconut milk to make the flavor. I would prefer more traditional caribbean coconut rice but it was bad. For my solo diners: i wasn't offered bread service like the other tables. Not sure if that was just because I was first to the dining area of because I was a dining solo. Otherwise, solo diner approved.

Yelp
A hidden gem! Came to the bar area for a few drinks before dinner. This is a great place for a date night or casual dining. They had great drinks and great service. We also loved the live piano music (Thursday-Saturday 6-9pm).

Yelp
I was truly blown away by how delicious every single dish at The Study was. As a Guatemalan, I found the creative use of Latin American ingredients and flavors in the unique dishes at The Study not only interesting and creative but also familiar and nostalgic. I love it when food takes me to a happy place. Chef Tomas Chavarria and chef Madeline Guzman can really create magic in the kitchen. Some of my favorite dishes included the kalbi ssam short rib lettuce wraps, the sweet plantain empanadas, the Costa Rican ceviche, the duck magret and achiote, the tres leches, and the coffee flan. I also loved the seasonal cherry blossom-inspired cocktail and the mocktail they prepared specially for me. I really loved the ambiance, and even though I had dinner here with friends, I think this is the perfect restaurant for a date night or for celebrating something special.

Yelp
I attended The Study with a friend for Alexandria Winter Restaurant Week! Upon arrival, we heard the pianist playing elegantly with familiar songs of all genres. This set the tone for a great night! Our table was in a quiet area of the restaurant and we were allowed to peruse the normal menu and the restaurant week menu. For restaurant week, I ordered the following; Scallops Tiradito - Fun flavors but not very filling. The juices of this would've been perfect with dipping bread! Run Down Stew- Absolutely amazing dish. The stew itself was a perfect broth of everything I could ask for. Within the stew there was Octopus, Clams, Scallops, Purple Potatoes, and the catch of the day. Sadly, I do not remember what the catch was. I would return for this dish alone. Tres Leches- Delicious Dessert to top off the meal. I ordered a second one of these! I forgot to grab a picture of these. Off the regular menu, the following was ordered: Pickle Board- This was my least favorite item of the night. The flavors of the vinegar and bases were too powerful for my palette. Steak & Onions- Perfectly cooked piece of steak! I could've ate about 10oz of this and I would've been satisfied! Korobuta Pork Belly- The Star of the evening. I believe this was the best pork belly I have eaten ever. The whole dish was perfection from top to finish. I am surprised this was not on the restaurant week menu. I would return for this dish as well! The Sweetest Corn- Beautiful Presentation, but it was underwhelming sadly. I was hoping for more of a cornbread taste, but it lacked flavor and I wasn't a fan of the texture. It just isn't fair for it to be compared to the Tres Leches. All in All, The Study has made it to be one of my favorites and on my highly recommended list!

Yelp
An absolute delightful and fun evening catching up with an old friend who happened to be staying at the Morrison House. The ambiance was cozy with a fun atmosphere of live music and great company of other patrons and employees. If you want to be separate from the bar area and the music for a little more privacy, there is another room with additional tables and seating. Will be back next time to try their food options and of course for drinks! Enjoy!

Yelp
A culinary delight! I came with a small group to checkout the Alexandria Restaurant Week menu. For an appetizer I had the short rib lettuce wrap and for the entree the duck and achiote. Since it's a dry January for me, I had a sangria mocktail that was as delicious as it was pretty. The service was outstanding and I will be back to enjoy the cuisine and pleasant atmosphere.

Yelp
Review for dinner 12/8/2023 Friday Service: First of all... the front desk lady was very very rude both over the phone and in person; she acted like she was working at McDonalds. Also it was unpleasant that no one greeted us and got us seated. We almost walked out of the place. The server(s) were very nice though. Food: All dishes were all nicely presented and tasted great. Would have been nice if some of the dishes were bigger in portion. However, the food came out too slow. 20~30 minutes for appetizer, then another 20~30 minutes for the entrees and then another 20 minutes for desserts. It took more than 2hrs to finish the meal.

Yelp
Had dinner there today for Restaurant Week and I'm glad I did. The bartender, waitstaff, and manager were all very friendly. The piano playing was also lovely. The smoked hamachi was beautifully presented, fresh, and flavorful. Every component of the Run Down Stew was delicious. Perfectly cooked octopus, clams, fish, and potatoes. Again, beautifully presented. The Tres Leches was one hiccup. It reminded me more of a shortcake in presentation and the milks weren't as soaked as I'm accustomed to. The flavor was also not what I would expect. However, the dessert was delicious. The Lucid Dreams cocktail was sweet on top because of the white chocolate foam. I love sweet things and I made sure I had very bit of that foam. The rest of the cocktail was delicious as well. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Came in to have a few cocktails with friends that were staying in the hotel. The bar area is nice and Manny the bar tender was great! Just told him what type is liquor I liked and drink notes he whipped up a drink and it was amazing! Highly recommend if you are in the area for craft cocktails

Yelp
An incredible hidden gem. I honestly cannot tell you about the restaurant because I never make it past the amazing bar. My wife and I go out for cocktails a lot, and Emmanuel is one of the best bartenders in the DC area. He throws together unique combinations of quality ingredients that always come across smooth. To add to the ambiance, is a cool cat on the piano playing jazz. Go before dinner, or after, or go all night and listen to jazz and taste amazing cocktails, but go.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I dined here for the first time yesterday evening, and it was, hands-down, one of the best meals we've ever had. We opted for the Costa Rican ceviche, scallops, and aged bread and butter for our starters. All three dishes were absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and plentiful in size. The scallops, in particular, were the best I've ever had. We chose the chicken and the octopus chicharron for our mains, and they were equally fantastic. The latter was arguably one of the most well-plated dishes of the night, looking like an abstract painting, while the beet purée had us guessing for the secret source of its hidden heat. The service was also impeccable. Our waiter was kind, paid attention to even the finest of details (even checking in with us to see if the music volume was to our liking), and gave us superb recommendations for dish choices and drink pairings. And the ambiance was everything. Between old books stacked decoratively between the bar and dining areas, eclectically curated photographs and paintings, chandeliers and lighting that looked more like sculptures, and a wonderful mix of live jazz piano and an awesome playlist that spanned decades, I was totally in love. The vibes feel like London, the flavor palette feels like Puerto Rico, and the entire experience feels Michelin-worthy. Find any excuse to get here. Just don't tell the tourists

Yelp
Enjoyed a very nice meal here a few weeks back while staying at the Morrison House. I can't say enough things about Earl, our server, who was absolutely brilliant- pleasant, professional, helpful, and patient with all our questions about the menu! We had several visits from the manager Leo, who was helping the servers as the night went on and tables got full. So service was top-notch. We started with the Heritage Croquettes, which were very interesting because of the perfectly fried outside, with an inside that was light and creamy. The red onion pickle and trout roe caviar was a nice touch of saltiness! For mains my wife had the Run Down Stew, their very tasty version of a bouillabaisse! It included an excellently grilled octopus tentacle, very large shrimp, several good sized and perfectly seared scallops (with which they happily replaced the clams my wife doesn't enjoy), a nice piece of cod, which coincidentally was my main meal as the fresh catch. The cod was meaty and thick, but prepared expertly as my fork easily separated layers for my enjoyment! Her broth was a tasty scotch bonnet stock, which wasn't too spicy and added another layer of flavor to the other marvelous ingredients! There was also a few purple sweet potatoes, which gave some starch to a very protein-intense meal. They were soft and filling! My cod was on a bed of very tasty bok choy, which is often-times over-cooked, and had soaked up a bit of the dark tomato broth beneath. We decided to splurge on the Churros In A Row- again, expertly fried with no evidence of excess oil, and a generous amount of both cinnamon sugar and spicy chocolate sauce! We explored the wine menu, which had some nice selections. Often we simply try glasses to enjoy better pairings with our individual dishes. Although small, the wine list was more than adequate, as was their offering of beer and cocktails! Ambience was warm and cozy, with plenty of space between tables and booths, something many restaurants seem to forget by cramming a few more 2-tops in normal aisle or walking space. My only regret was that we couldn't eat there again during our weekend, as they aren't open every night. For Alexandria with its plethora of restaurants, The Study is near the very top. Clearly the management has provided an experience that requires an excellent and well-trained team, which is something they should certainly be proud of, never mind they're a "Hotel Restaurant". Probably the best dining experience we've had since visiting Alexandria over the last decade!

Yelp
Lovely ! The gas fireplace / front sitting area is so beautifully appointed. They've done a great job making it feel a part of the bar on the other side- and welcoming to all, even if you're not staying there. The cocktails are fabulous and actually fairly priced for the ambiance. Best part is the live piano player / singer- SO fun !! You do need to go get your own drinks, and I do feel the bar tender was a bit inundated and could have benefited from a second helper making cocktails. Restaurant waiters were getting their own beer / wine / etc for patrons but one bartender for a pretty big area felt a tad unfair to him - the only dinged star for me (its gonna be dumb so be ready)- since they're a high end restaurant, the bar snacks are also super elevated, but I think they'd benefit from some hand cut truffle fries and/or an olive medley and/or some uniquely flavored deviled egg's and/or hummus crudite etc etc, some more snacky things. But we'll be back !

Kate M.

Yelp
The service and food was nice. Desserts was great. They have limited of tables so it's better to make a reservation before you go.

Chloe H.

Yelp
We came for restaurant week and everything was very good. We started with the short rib lettuce wraps and the beef tartare - the beef tartare was some of the best we've ever had. For entrees we got the steak & onions and the octopus - both were very delicious. The service was outstanding as well. We will definitely be back!

Kelly B.

Yelp
Staying at the hotel, grabbed some drinks and bites with friends. Bring your bookmark from the front desk for a specialty off-menu cocktail each evening you stay, they were fantastic. Had the Paradise Lost and Eve's Mistake - both were delicious and dangerously drinkable. We shared the bread and butter plate as well as the cheese plate. We ended up with a lot of bread that way, but we took care of it! There was a lovely pianist there, I believe his name was Derrick - fantastic! Cozy, warm and inviting - worth a stop for sure.

Michael M.

Yelp
Ugh is the best way to describe The Study. I checked out yelp, Google, and Instagram and it looked really promising, but upon arriving, there's no host/hostess, the menu is MAYBE 12 items, and the they do a really poor job executing - the "country bread basket" for example was literally pieces of sliced bread from the supermarket and was only toasted on one side! Only redeeming things are they had a pretty solid piano player to drown out the one table of wasted people basically screaming their conversation and it's close to other good restaurants so we were able to eat a real dinner after leaving this place. 0/10, would never come back again.

Crystal M.

Yelp
First and foremost this place is super cute, very elegant and classy. My girlfriend and I went for dinner and drinks. There was a piano bar singer which was very lovely to listen to. The drinks were incredible, very delightful and definitely mixed by the mixologist at the bar. The food was great we ordered the raw scallops and for dinner the mahi mahi. For drinks we had a "fire and ice" martini times 3-they were absolutely delicious. Service was impeccable on a Saturday night, thank you so much!

Bree K.

Yelp
Went for restaurant week. The ambiance is great, nice cocktail menu and small but well crafted wine list. Unfortunately, the food left more to be desired. There was a very long wait from when we ordered to receiving any actual food - we started out with the bread share bites. Which was more like breakfast toast instead of hearty sourdough but the butter was great. We decided to do three starters to share: hamachi, shrimp and scallops. All three had lovely presentation. The shrimp with potato layers was probably the best - unfortunately it only came with one small shrimp. Would love to see 2-3 shrimps but maybe they shrunk the portions for Restaurant Week? Scallop - avoid. While we love raw scallops this left something to be desired. It severely is lacking in taste, needed desperately a pinch of acid or something. The foam leaves a gross residue once it deflates and it all tasted bland. It looked like the scallops were cut with a butter knife and not the level of skill you'd expect. The side chips were the best part of the dish. Hamachi - good, nothing special but good. For dinner, it took quite a considerable amount of time for the food to arrive. Two of us had the Steak & Onions. While it was cooked to perfection, it literally came out cold for both of us. Which was disappointing since we had such a long wait. I even rechecked the menu to make sure I didn't miss if it was meant to be served chilled. Really disappointing because the meat was cooked to a great medium rare. Run down stew - was delicious broth and great presentation. Few shells or something hard in the stew that we bit into when trying the octopus but hoping that was an off bite? Tres leches was a great dessert. All-in-all I am disappointed, was extremely excited to have this new addition in the neighborhood but was quite let down. May give it one more chance for dinner but would likely file this as more of a cocktail and apps location. Hoping they can figure out their expediting and quality control, potential to be great.

Yelp
Someday, Yelp will give a "0" star option, but until then, I must choose 1. The most descriptive word I can us for this restaurant is "dishonest." What we expected was an intimate dining room with better than average food. What we go was overall disappointing. Service is ok. Not good or bad. The menu, however, is seriously lacking. Not in creativity, but in substance. Of the few appetizers, none were fishless, except for the bread. This is a problem for people who don't like fish. But the bread. Advertised as "Dutch oven" bread. Which I make at home, routinely. Which results in a crusty, round loaf. So we ordered that ($9j and got a couple of slices of toast. From a loaf that probably came from Safeway. Similar to, but not as good as, Dave's Killer bread. With three colors of butter. Colors, not flavors. I had the "half" chicken, which consisted of an artfully arranged carcass missing half a breast and an entire thigh to qualify it for a half chicken. It was a meagerly seasoned half breast with wing and a leg. With roasted potatoes. It tasted fine, and the potatoes were good, but the chicken was remarkable only in its lack of any moisture whatsoever. My partner in crime ordered the steak, which was tender, flavorful and perfectly cooked to temperature. Steak on a plate. If I recall, $33. No sides. A smush of onion confit. No veggies. No potatoes, and the menu did not provide the option to order sides. The wine. I can't even. I respect that Virginia has oh so earnestly tried. But come on. This is a Marriott/Bonvoy hotel restaurant, and the default is Virginia wine? Bad idea. I wish I hadn't been a sucker for the sexy advertising. This place doesn't live up to anything they promise.

Yelp
Words cannot express our utter delight dining at The Study. In an area filled with various eateries this incredible gastro experience is tucked away-off the beaten path in the Morrison House-A Marriott signature hotel. Now, don't ever let a restaurant attached to a hotel give pause. This was amazing. It's elegant, sublime, approachable, and memorable. The menu consists of uniquely paired seafood, beef, vegetable dishes masterfully and creatively prepared. That's what was exciting. Real creativity! The bar, rightfully so, gets a lot of attention but the food, oh, the food! I do have to give a shout out to the perfect martinis, one gin, one vodka, both perfect We started with the "snack "of house made pickles. Fresh summer squashes and cucumbers adorned with flower petals and three flavored "sauces" were quite a surprise. Refreshing, a little spicy, and memorable- it was perfect for a warm spring evening and the martinis.. The crudo tostada trio was beyond our expectations, and we almost ordered more. The three worked so well together- yet each was a standout. Of course we had to try the croquettes and were not disappointed. That sauce is worth writing about. When you get a serving with three, and you battle each other for the third, that's a statement. Delicious. As for mains-I had the steak and onions, he had the bass. Silence fell upon the table, and bites were exchanged. Both were so different and yet very exciting. We were stuffed, but decided to go full throttle intro dessert. We talked briefly to the chef who had just made fresh corn cakes, which we had with a boozy tequila cream sauce. It may sound odd, but it was magic. We also shared an order of the tree leches cake. Both desserts were well portioned at the end of an amazing meal. If I had but one suggestion it would be to have spoons set with the flatware service. We scraped all of the sauces with our knives and forks, and yes, when no one was looking, and index finger. Please look at this menu and see if it is of interest to you as a diner. True gastronome's will love the experience. In a town full of amazing food choices I encourage you all to peruse The Study. Better yet, go!

Yelp
What a gem! Emmanuel Pressley's cocktail menu is one of the best I've ever ordered from and he's a delight behind the bar! The Study is comfortable and stylish and even had a live pianist playing and singing while we enjoyed delicious drinks. We'll be back!

Yelp
We decided to try the bar at the Morrison House. We had last visited many moons ago where we spent our wedding night. We recalled a classic boutique hotel which epitomized the charm of Old Town Alexandria. I'm sad to report it is no longer that. It felt like the Hampton Inn meets a cheaply decorated Hotel Monaco. The interior design was second rate, at best, like everything was purchased at Ikea and the countertops, etc. were sourced from Floor & Decor. I saw remnants of the bygone era, including the detailed fretwork surrounding the entry door and the beautiful brass hardware and handle but it stops there. This property has so so much potential, it's so sad to see it in this state. We gave it the good ole college try, took a seat in a pair of pleather-covered wobbly chairs at the bar that, under closer inspection, looked like a cheap and haphazard airport bar. We ordered a couple "beautiful little fool" cocktails and decided we could drink this place great, right?! Not so much. Thank goodness we didn't commit to ordering entrees and apprehensively ordered the pickle board and local farmer's cheese board. We received three mushy bowls of sandwich pickles which all tasted like straight vinegar and four pieces of toast that looked like it came from Safeway with three slices of different cheeses that could have come from the value pack at Costco. Go ahead and skip the Study at Morrison House. Seriously.

Exceptional experience! The Chef really took care of us and the staff provided amazing service. This is a hidden gem! Don't miss out!

Yelp
This place was below mediocre. Figuring out how to get in was an issue and then not finding a host to bring us to the table was a turn off. We ordered the turnip ceviche...that was a mistake, it wasn't pickled and soft. We ordered the bread and that again was a mistake. The bread was toast and reminded us of Dave's grain bread but the butter was excellent. Ordered the seafood stew...whew!! That was salty and the octopus was chewy. We were super disappointed and didn't want to risk wasting more money on dessert. Pros were the rose Chandon and the tequila drink with pineapple and the staff. Would not go back.

Yelp
Awesome cocktails- great place to come for top notch drinks and a comfortable, enjoyable environment. The bar is great and the lead bartender Emmanuel rocks.

Yelp
I wouldn't go here if you are accustomed to large portions of anything, but the tiny food is quite delicious and exquisitely presented, and the place itself is classy-cozy. I thought our waitress had some great personality--she tried to talk me out of ordering a cocktail that she clearly thought was disgusting, but the more I heard about it, the more I wanted it--tequila, beet juice, and white chocolate froth?! Bring it on! Even though I drank it all and spooned out the froth, she still appeared skeptical. To each her own, I suppose. The venue itself is lovely but a bit cramped--I was practically bumping elbows with the piano player. The live music itself, though, was a perk. While I would love to give this place five stars, after three courses, I still felt hungry.

Yelp
I would have easily overlooked this hotel restaurant, with its limited reviews and tucked-away location, were it not for the intriguing restaurant week menu (the well-written narrative review below certainly helped.) My party of two had the layered potato starter, along with the seafood stew and steak as main plates. All were well-prepared, flavorful, and balanced. Although I felt differently about dessert, I certainly plan to return, as every other element of the experience was great. Further details below: The service was excellent--warm and attentive, without being overbearing or rushed, from the very moment we walked in. I was super excited about dessert (particularly since it was the only allotment of sweets I permitted myself that week) so we shared both the tres leches and the corn cake. I was surprisingly underwhelmed by both. This might appeal to some, but the tres leches lacked a certain depth in flavor and texture; resembling a low-fat, angel food cake version, rather than the rich experience I had eagerly anticipated. The corn cake was doused in tequila, which dominated the dish entirely and precluded us from enjoying the sweet corn flavor we so looked forward to savoring. The other photos here confirm that they forgot to add the dulce de leche to ours, which certainly contributed to the dearth of flavor, as the cake alone could not compete with the tequila. It's also worth mentioning that the space was very nicely decorated in a restrained, but moody, style that seemed to honor the historic location while adding a touch of modern edge. It's a cozy, romantic setting that's ideal for a date and invites one savor slowly and linger. The unexpected live music was certainly a bonus. Hoping my next visit will feature desserts that are on par with everything else!

Yelp
Expected the ambience to be cozier. It was actually rather sterile and cold. The two stars are for our server, who was lovely. We had to wait 40+ minutes for our cocktails (each round!), and the cheese plate was an absolute joke: small squares of toasted sliced bread and a couple small pieces of forgettable cheese. I was hoping this would be a fun spot to go to with girlfriends, but I do not plan to go back. It's a shame, since it's in my backyard.

Yelp
The service was very slow. We did the restaurant week menu and the waiter said we weren't allowed to order any additional items from the main menu. The food was fine but the desserts were subpar. I wouldn't recommend this for a night out. I suppose if you're already staying at the hotel, the drinks are just okay.

Yelp
A quaint little place that literally resembles a study as the name implies. They have a nice bar not very big but very inviting and warm ambience. The dining room has only 7 or 8 tables and decorated like a study. The server was very sweet and helpful. She came to check on us several time during our meal. The food and drink is very good, we will be back.

Yelp
Cozy lounge and adequate seating for couples in high backs. Great craft cocktails and piano player on occasion
