"A charming village on the Cumbria and North Yorkshire border plays host to this equally delightful pub; start your evening with a stroll along the river, then enjoy a local beer in the characterful stone-walled bar, before dinner in the smart restaurant. Lunch sees small plates and pub classics, while dinner steps up a gear with refined dishes which let the true flavours of the ingredients shine. Cosy bedrooms blend original features with modern furnishings." - Michelin Inspector

What a gem of a place, right in the centre of Kirkby Lonsdale. Rooms were great, breakfast delicious and service and staff excellent. Unfortunately we didn't have a roast, as they had run out by the time it was our turn to dine. We were not disappointed by the other menu options...lovely food. Will definitely book early to have a roast next visit as looked lovely. Very popular place and super dog friendly!! Loved it ..can't wait to go back!!

Jenny shines at the Sun Inn.|We stopped here overnight on our way south from Scotland. Very efficient paid for parking system - real asset given limited space available in the town. Room was comfortable and well equipped and dinner was excellent and good value.|The key asset is Jenny who works tirelessly and helpfully to make her guests welcome

We have just returned from a fabulous 4 night stay at The Sun Inn. Our deluxe room (no. 10) was perfect in every way and all of the staff at the hotel were very friendly and incredibly helpful. The cooked breakfasts were among the best we have ever tasted. Where do they get that bacon from? Our stay was completed with a superb meal in the restaurant on our final night. The Lamb rump was out of this world. Kirkby Lonsdale is a lovely base for exploring both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, with some very nice independent shops and a good choice of pubs and restaurants. A truly memorable stay.

This was our first stay at The Sun Inn, stopping for two nights en route from Devon to Scotland. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and obliging and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Chris was really helpful when we asked about recommendations of walks in The Lake District. The room was very quiet and comfortable with luxurious touches. The breakfast was lovely. We hope to return. Thanks!

All around fabulous but having it’s own space for drip off and pick up is unique in KL and makes for a really stress-free holiday. Pull up, drop your bags off and pick up your free parking sticker. You can use this sticker in 3 car parks at KL plus many other towns in the Lake District, so it’s a huge benefit. Ruskin’s view is right behind the Sun Inn. The bar is well stocked and has many excellent t cask and draught beers. Breakfast was a good as other reviews said and my only complaint would be the daily dilemma of do I go with the Full English or the Haddock and poached egg?

Delightful place to stay. Staff were throughly obliging. 3rd time we have stayed there & is as good as ever. The food has always been good but this time we thought it even better. Beef Carpaccio (with a matched Merlot) followed by Chalk Stream Trout (with matched wine) & an excellent desert with a seriously good desert wine.|The range of beers is as good as you will find anywhere.|It is a coaching Inn so it is traditional; "traditional" is done very well at The Sun Inn.|The rooms are beautifully appointed; some may think small but they have character & taste.|Rooms overlooking the church (12, 7 & 5) are lovely. |A place that for us never loses its charm.|Nothing we can think of that we regarded as a debit.

You always receive a warm welcome when entering this pub which has the most historic & architecturally pleasing facade in KL. It’s only Monday but they still manage to have 4 cask ales on - 3 of them brewed locally. If visiting for the first time - do visit St Mary’s churchyard directly behind the Sun.

This is our third visit, and we have tried out different rooms on each occasion. This time we had views across to the hills beyond, as well as the church (room 12 if you are interested). One of the most comfortable hotels I have stayed in this year, and all the staff are pleasant and helpful. Sumptous breakfasts that mean you may not wnat to eat again till evening.

Yelp
It's been a month since we left the Sun Inn and I'm still having rapturous memories of our visit. We've stayed in a few other inns in the Lake District, but this was our favorite. We enjoyed a clean and comfy room with lovely touches like treats and milk for tea in an insulated carafe. I really appreciated the bath salts after our two hour hike! Downstairs is an attractive pub with friendly and accomodating hosts, kick-ass brekkies...and fresh coffee available on demand throughout the day. Two downsides for me were the very early trash pick up (loud clattering of bottles around 7 am) and the distant parking, which we knew beforehand, but hey, I guess it's okay since we were in the Lakes to do some walking anyway. As it's right in the center of a charming village, you have to appreciate the lack of car parks. Also notable is the bell ringing at nearby St. Mary's...loved hearing the quarter hours marked, but disliked counting down the days to our departure. Tempus fugit...so hurry to the Sun Inn.
