Sun Inn

"A charming village on the Cumbria and North Yorkshire border plays host to this equally delightful pub; start your evening with a stroll along the river, then enjoy a local beer in the characterful stone-walled bar, before dinner in the smart restaurant. Lunch sees small plates and pub classics, while dinner steps up a gear with refined dishes which let the true flavours of the ingredients shine. Cosy bedrooms blend original features with modern furnishings." - Michelin Inspector

Stayed here for just one night and so pleased with our choice. The room was spotlessly clean, warm, in excellent condition and very welcoming. The staff were friendly, approachable and nothing was any trouble. Add to that fantastic food and there is nothing more you could want. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone considering a stay in the area.

Beautifully situated in the centre of a wonderful market town perched above the River Lune, the Sun Inn made a perfect base for visiting the local are and walking the North Bowland Fells.||Staff were welcoming and informative, giving great local knowledge in walks to do, and walks to avoid.||I ate in the restaurant every night for my three day stay. The food is excellent - definitely try the belly pork.||My room was well appointed, clean and warm.

We made a last minute booking for Dinner Bead and Breakfast, and had a toally delightful stay. The staff were charming, really helpful and welcoming, accommodation was beautiful with a quiet room, and very comfortable bed. We really enjoyed our meal and then chilling out in the bar after. Great selection of gins.

We had a lovely warm welcome; the room was spotless with a seriously comfortable bed, homemade biscuits on the tea tray and a super ensuite.|Dinner and breakfast were delicious. |Last time we stayed we enjoyed it so much we thought we'd come again - so we did!

We had our first ever drink in KL at The Sun Inn. A lovely Inn set beside the churchyard. Been many times over the years, as has Madge. Flatric's first visit. A good selection of three real ales. I had one from the Bowness Bay brewery on this latest visit. Very good. Have enjoyed meals here in the past but never in the rear dining area. Madge liked her wine.

A lovely place to stay, excellent pub downstairs. One bit of advice to the Inn - please mix up your playlist - when you have a room above the pub, the short repeat of the morning and evening soundtracks leaves undesired earworms even a week later. But, a small price to pay for a wonderful stay.

What a lovely place to stay. The room was cosy, food excellent and the staff were very friendly and accommodating especially with our nervous dog. ||Perfect location for exploring the area. Will definitely stay here again if we come back this way.

Star ratings are meaningless these days. This is a delightful wee country pub with rooms, but right in the middle of the town/village. Couldn't fault the room we were given. Clean, spacious for two, everything you need. The food was varied, plentiful, and faultless. Parking anywhere in town is a problem, but the hotel has an arrangement with the local council, and you get free use of council public car parks. Great place to stop overnight for a break on long journey.

Yelp
It's been a month since we left the Sun Inn and I'm still having rapturous memories of our visit. We've stayed in a few other inns in the Lake District, but this was our favorite. We enjoyed a clean and comfy room with lovely touches like treats and milk for tea in an insulated carafe. I really appreciated the bath salts after our two hour hike! Downstairs is an attractive pub with friendly and accomodating hosts, kick-ass brekkies...and fresh coffee available on demand throughout the day. Two downsides for me were the very early trash pick up (loud clattering of bottles around 7 am) and the distant parking, which we knew beforehand, but hey, I guess it's okay since we were in the Lakes to do some walking anyway. As it's right in the center of a charming village, you have to appreciate the lack of car parks. Also notable is the bell ringing at nearby St. Mary's...loved hearing the quarter hours marked, but disliked counting down the days to our departure. Tempus fugit...so hurry to the Sun Inn.
