"For lunch we walked ten minutes down a village road lined with stone cottages, past the church and primary school, to The Swan pub, an ivy-clad charmer that serves a magnificent chicken pie with buttered greens on Sundays."

A Well Hidden Gem Super sympathetic renovation of a spacious country inn, set in a charming Cotswold village. Friendly efficient welcome, and outstanding pub grub. Fried scampi that would do justice to a proper Andalucian chiringuito. Beef pie, wild garlic mash, and a well made gravy, could easily take the national pie award. Excellent bread. Good short selection of wines by the glass, and Timothy Taylor on tap. Bravo! Should have been busier on Friday lunchtime, needs own web site. 🐌🐌🐌

We celebrated my sister's 40th birthday here, and choosing this restaurant while traveling with our dog was a wonderful decision. The food was truly exceptional, and the attentive staff made us feel welcomed from beginning to end. The highlight was the incredible raspberry parfait, a perfect ending to a memorable experience.

I wanted to love it, but sadly we left feeling deflated. The service was good, our waitress was lovely. We were late from road closures and lack of parking from the fete, but they allowed us to still dine which we really appreciated. However I have an egg allergy, and when we ordered our starters, 3 of the same, I stated this and the waitress made a note on the order, and said she would let the kitchen know. When the starters came we only had two. A different waitress came with the starters and put them down in front of us. We waited for the third which never came, so I assumed my starter that I requested had egg, so wasn’t getting one. We never saw anyone after to ask. So I gave it to my Dad. When the first waitress came, we mentioned not to be charged for 3, and queried the egg. She said we only ordered 2, and one of those that did come was in fact egg free.,but we had no idea. She asked if I wanted another and I declined. By that point I was wary to be honest, I’ve had experiences in the past with my allergy, so I’m super cautious as I can get very ill. I can see how it happened; lack of communication but it shouldn’t have. Our mains were lovely, although I would suggest you order sides with each meal, as it wasn’t suggested I could have done with more food! We enjoyed our mains and the chips were lovely. They were accommodating with desert and made me strawberries and cream which wasn’t on the menu and they were great. The pub was also very busy from the fete, and whilst this wasn’t the pubs fault at all, it made for a very hectic time with children/people moving around a lot as we were near the bar area. Which I again understand why as my Dad is disabled so we were sat there, so he didn’t have to walk so far and we were late. But it didn’t make for a relaxing meal. I think the website should state the fete was on, with hardly any parking and road closures. As we would have booked in the Ox Barn instead. So it’s a mixed bag of good/bad and some wasn’t the pubs fault. Would I go back? Probably not, but will try Thymes other restaurant for sure.

Review is for Sunday evening Pie & Mash, may be better for Sunday lunch. Recently had a "meal" there Sunday evening for pie & mash, had high hopes - nice country pub atmosphere. Had pre-booked and told that they could accommodate our daughters gluten intolerance. Arrived at 7pm for our meal, pub was not very busy, had a quiet table and told that pie were shin beef and for the gluten free one was lamb. No menus or other options, which was fine as hoping for a hearty pie. Ordered wine and drinks, food quickly followed - the beef pies were very tasty, the lamb one less so. Portion sizes were tiny, so we finished quickly and still rather hungry jokingly said "I could eat another of those", met with a very flat response. Asked about a dessert and told bluntly, that there were no desserts. So we finished drinks and went back to the accommodation over the road very hungry and £110 lighter - back home by 8:15pm to see what food stores we had to raid. Quite why the gluten free lamb pie was £4.50 more expensive than the normal ones I am not so sure.

Called in for a lunchtime meal. Was stood at the bar for over 5 mins with no service at all so helped ourselves to the menus. Food looked great! Finally seated and was sat at our table for over 10 minutes with not one person attending to us. After the waitress fluttered in and out a number of times avoiding helping we just decided to leave and walked out to find better service at the keepers arms in quenington. Far better atmosphere and service!

As a group of 3 people and 1 dog, it seemed pleasant until we waited over an hour for our food, and when the food did arrive or should I say half the food arrived it was either cold, undercooked/raw, or burned to a crisp, apart from the bread and chips which were very nice. Portions were small and overpriced, and waited 20m before reminding them about forgotten food, and only after another 10m did the forgotten side drive but then informed us that they had ran out of sausages after we paid for it. Burger was also plain missing a side salad and half the plate empty. They do have Hawkstone beer however. If you want a pint and a side of chips go for it, for most others I recommend that you avoid this place The ketchup was also very sharp and vinegary, as they should have had Heinz ketchup as "IT HAS TO BE HEINZ". The carrots looked like a piece of used burned firewood, as that is what it tasted like

This was the perfect Sunday roast. The place is gorgeous, all understated warmth and charm, the service from everyone, especially their manager, was friendly without being effusive, and nothing was too much trouble. The roast was quite simply the best we've ever had. Two of us had the celeriac, and one the beef - all were perfect. And don't even start me on the roast potatoes, which were quite simply the crispiest I've ever had, which is not easy to achieve in volume. I'd drive from Cornwall back here just for lunch! Only thing I would change would be to bin the music - I don't think it's needed in an old country pub for Sunday lunch - the hubbub of the room would be enough. Otherwise, it was perfect - thank you.

Beautiful setting, we had a private room for a table of 10. Food was largely very good, maybe just short of excellent - the competition in the Cotswolds is massive though. Great pints and service was also good. Lovely atmosphere in the front of the pub which is very traditional, and also a garden at the back for when it's warmer. Had the beef cheek, which was very good although preferred the look of the burger and the fish and chips which was a huge portion!

Yelp
Great pub with excellent service! Very close from Thyme if you want a change. The sticky toffee pudding looked delicious!

Yelp
What a great pub. My wife organised an extended family get together here last weekend. We arrived a couple of hours early -- quite a trek from the Isle of Wight -- so asked a local and found a lovely walk to a pooh-stick bridge that starts 100m north of the pub. We then followed the burbling river (thames?) downstream even spotting a trout in the clear water. More pooh-sticks on the way back. There is a small triangle of grass over the land from the pub that doubles as its beer garden, very pleasant sipping a pint of Doom Bar, then into the pub for lunch. They had allocated us the old skittles room and had set up a long table on one side, with the skittle lane on the other that the rug rats used to play on. Food was splendid. Starters included: seafood linguine with muscles, clams, butterfly prawns ... yum; a subtle broad bean and mozzarella salad; and stuffed artichoke. Mains included: Shin of beef, a strong stewed meat with oodles of flavour; duck breast, a generous portion of meat, beautifully pink; and cornish hake that just melted in the mouth. Puddings were: the best bread and butter pudding I have ever had (and I don't like bread and butter pudding); gooey tangy treacle tart; and some unpasturised british cheeses. Mmmm. Really friendly and accommodating staff, a good local walk along the river, a pretty position and great food. What more could you ask!

Yelp
This is a great place which fuses a traditional pub with fine dining. Great food, wine and beers. Off the beaten track but signposted around Lechlade. Highly recommended but not cheap.

Yelp
This is the best food we have eaten for years and the restaurant is really cosy and well run. We recommend The Swan at Southrop. To anyone looking for somewhere special.
