The Swing clearly has a very talented chef, with plenty of intriguing and delicious pan-Asian things to try. My aubergine, cod and cauliflower dishes were all very enjoyable, the latter drenched in a sticky sauce which although very sweet, was certainly addictive. Friend liked their meat dishes to varying degrees, the overall opinion being positive, though portion size seemed a bit tight apparently. Cod delicately cooked, aubergine fried in the gung-ho, oily way I love about this sort of cuisine. Everything looked great, professional, tempting, and at least with my choices tasted delicious.
Not so impressive was the restaurant (which is highly attractive and quite rustic inside) being freezing cold, with a small fan heater put on one of the tables. This wasn't enough heat, and it's not acceptable for any establishment let alone one serving this style of food at this price point.
As to service, we were advised plates come out when they're ready, but even taking this into account (and especially as it wasn't particularly busy on the weeknight we visited), the order of play was a bit daft, and it never felt like a meal. Furthermore, we ordered "rice bites" as knew the food would be subtle, and I felt even a small rice addition would add some sustenance. However, not only did they forget these, but they tried to pretend they hadn't, after our prompting, resulting in the rice being served on its own when we would have been trying desserts. This was stupid, unimpressive, and we shouldn't have been charged for it. Also a pity as they weren't "bites", rather, a decent portion of rice and peas, with a fried egg on top - *exactly* what the other dishes needed.
All in all, the restaurant is charming, but it’s been open at least a year now and the above issues seem rather odd, and out of place with the standards the eatery seems to aim for.
