The Best Restaurants in Oceanside, California | Eater San Diego

"Decorated with vintage switchboard switches used by communication operators during World War II, the boutique Fin Hotel restaurant pays homage to its history. Open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., the eclectic menu features Hawaiian and Korean dishes such as poke and bulgogi, as well as toast sticks and burgers. A cozy interior with mismatched furniture further sets the mood." - Helen I. Hwang

The Switchboard Restaurant & Bar didn’t disappoint me! I was staying at the hotel connected to this restaurant. I was initially going in to get two mocktails. Well Steven our waitress was very accommodating so decided to stay for dinner. We ordered salmon Cesar salad, shrimp salad, banana lumpa. Along with two random mocktails that Steven surprised us both with. Everything was so delicious and I love the coconut mocktail he made for me! The other drink was sweet. Thank you Steven for being a good waitress with a great personality. It’s the perfect size for restaurant and seems really cozy! It’s great hospitality and Steven gave out great recommendations! I highly recommend this restaurant. I look forward to returning and eating more dishes at this cute restaurant! It has a lot of history for the building hence the name Switchboard. They have breakfast, lunch, dinner, and brunch menu.

For breakfast, we made a surprise stop to Oceanside. First time here for us both, and we were quite pleasantly surprised. The service was great, and the food's very good. It's definitely a place we would return to. The soothing background instrumental music of Daniel Stark seemed perfect whilst eating breakfast here. I had for the first time (outside of my normal eats) the Huevos Ranchero Tostado, my gf had the Loco Moco... both quite amazing. I brought my spice kit as usual, and Dean was quite impressed with the potpourri of eclectic spices i brought.. most of which, if not used wisely, could cause loss of taste and a bit of pain for a while. (I know as I am a slow learner....) On this date, I used my spices wisely as i enjoyed them to enhance the flavors of the food that were already greatly seasoned... I recommend stopping by for breakfast or brunch and enjoying the fine foods that are here.

Google
One of my favorite spots in Oceanside. The owner and employees are all great and take care of the place very well. I'm always coming back even though they have a small menu. They have Korean/ American style menu and they have a cool coffee shop as part of their operation. I don't drink but the quaint bar is a great stop if you want a drink but you don't want the bar feeling.

Google
Solid restaurant w Polynesian flair attached to a boutique hotel near the water. Am a sucker for a loco moco so nabbed that and wasn’t disappointed. Portion size generous, plating on point, great flavors. Service was great and full bar options. Would consider this a solid brunch/lunch spot!

Google
I’ve been here a couple of times during my lunch break and had been craving Loco Moco (rice, gravy, fried egg, and hamburger patty). The picture doesn’t do it justice, but it was very filling, flavorful, and smothered in gravy. The second time I came, I tried the burger, which was also very satisfying. Each time, our waitress was friendly and checked on us regularly. During weekday lunch hours, the restaurant wasn’t busy at all. Both times, we were the only people there. I have not tried any of the drinks there but would like to come back and try some of their cocktails.

Google
Amazing experience. Stephan the bartender was funny, friendly and excellent at cocktails. RJ was a wonderful host. Was on a work trip alone and had a wonderful time dining solo. Delicious food (best mac salad I’ve had outside of Hawaii!)and cocktails, will be back anytime I’m nearby.

We didn't eat,so I can't tell ya! Fun neighborhood spot. Go see Chole, Nina, and Hailey!

Google
A very good fusion of Korean and Hawaiian food! The service was really good. We ordered the poki bowl, Bugogi lettuce wraps and the Kalua pork fries. They were all really good, although a little spicy for me but I still finished my food! I would love to go back and try a few other things on the menu!!!

Yelp
This place is a chill restaurant at the bottom floor of a hotel. Having lived in the area my life, I never thought to come here until my friend visiting from out of town decided that we should go, and I'm glad she did! Very cozy and well decorated, the folks who work here are also very sweet and helpful. The environment was chatty and my friend and I had an espresso martini and I had one of their kombuchas, which were both solid. I got the fish tacos and my friend got the pork fries, and honestly I feel like the food was just okay. The portions were smaller than anticipated, the fish tacos and chips were both very dry. I didn't try my friend's food but she reported them being really good, so this is likely a one-off thing! Overall, would recommend for someone who is visiting Oceanside.

Yelp
Very cozy environment. Felt like there was only a few tables but the staff is very nice! We got the fish n chips, poke and ceasar salad. All were amazing because I was so hungry tbh. I loved the banana lumpia at the end for dessert perfect with ice cream.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday around 3:50pm- was happily surprised they still have happy hour on the weekends but it ends at 4pm! The server was nice and gave us the heads up to put in our orders asap to get the deal. We ordered the crispy dumplings, the kalua pork fries, and the switchboard burger. Everything was super tasty but the appetizers were my favorite. I think the burger was just okay- I wish there was a sauce on there that made it tastier. The dumplings and fries though were soo good! It wasn't busy at this time, the servers were really friendly, and service was quick too. I'd recommend coming during happy hour because the food is more reasonably priced.

Yelp
Nice spot for Valentine's Day dinner! They had a dinner for two menu but we ordered a La carte. We ordered the bulgolgi lettuce wraps (delicious) to share and the salmon plate for my entree. The bourbon salmon was good, but medium rare was slightly too undercooked for my preference. Service was good even with a full house, and so was my cocktail, The Local Vibe!

Yelp
Been here twice. Correction came here two days in a row. Brunch was amazing both visit with bottomless mimosas. I had a sandwich was was delightful. They had comfy seating and out table was right by the window for people watching. I was I rush in my first visit so I had to go back the next day. Service was in point. Love the theme of the place and right below the hotel. This will be a regular spot to visit. What's. Discovery.

Yelp
Searched for a restaurant in Oceanside to have lunch with a friend driving from Torrance. I went by Yelp reviews and a bit nervous about picking a restaurant I never heard of without a recommendation. It didn't look like what I expected but was greeted by a sweet server who was expecting us, The menu lacked items that were on their Yelp page but it did have what I was most interested in. We started with the #BulgogLettuceWraps. It did not disappoint #KaluaPorkFries Amazing with #KimchiAioli #GarlicAioli #CrispyOnions and a perfectly #FriedEggs definitely one of the best #FrenchFriesFusion The only miss was the #HawaiianPlate We picked chicken as the protein but we did ask for it to be fried and it was a bit dry and overcooked. Good slices of breast meat though. The macaroni salad seemed on the healthier side - light on the mayo but not bad. For dessert we had #Turon aka #BananaLumpia. Having turon many times this was the BEST Very crispy because it wasn't wrapped like an egg roll and the banana filling was very delicious it didn't need a side of caramel sauce but I love caramel so nice addition. Accompanied with #AmericanoCoffee a perfect ending, It does have a coffee shop vibe with switchboard decor in honor of the women who worked at this historical site. Service was fast and our server made great recommendations and was a delight throughout our meal.

Yelp
We came here recently for dinner after having positive experiences in the past. When we arrived, it should've been packed, since it was dinner time, but only 2 people were inside. By the time we left, we were the only people eating. Anywho, I ordered the Hawaiian plate lunch and my wife ordered the loco moco. The food was tepid, especially the fried rice. Not sure what's going on lately, but it has changed since last coming in. The staff was still very good, but the food has gone downhill.

Yelp
The concept of the Switchboard is super cool, with the interior completely decked out with switchboard-like decorations. The service here was good and our server was super nice and gave us a rundown of the specials they had for that day. Unfortunately, I wasn't really impressed with the food. We ordered the edamame, which was $8 for a tiny portion. And I didn't really love the sauce and salt it was covered in. We also tried the Salmon Tartare, and again, I wasn't a fan. Maybe next time, I'll have to try one of the entree items, since a bunch looked good. Would definitely return for the service!

Yelp
You know it's a good spot when you already plan on returning after finishing up your meal. I love Hawaiian food so expectations were already up going into this place and thank goodness The Switchboard didn't disappoint. I tried the Teriyaki Chicken, Korean Loco Moco and Spicy Seasoned Fries and all of them were very satisfying. The Teriyaki Chicken was very juicy, the sauce wasn't overly sweet and paired with the fried rice, it was very enjoyable. The Korean Loco Moco was quite the hearty dish that will leave your tastebuds with a warm pleasantry with every bite. The gochujang gravy is a nice twist and adds a subtle spice to the dish. This dish is more on the savory side but not overly savory where you're searching for water after every other bite. As for the fries, perfectly crisp and the spicy seasoning works very well with all the dipping sauces they provided. The service was great with friendliness and persistent check-ins from the waitress. The atmosphere is also inviting to either just sit back and enjoy a beverage from the bar or have a tasty dinner and drinks in a casual, yet classy environment.

Yelp
I had some time between checking out of my hotel down the street and heading to the airport, so I came to The Switchboard for a working lunch one afternoon. It's smaller than I expected and connected to a coffee shop and hotel lobby, but I was able to grab a table and get settled in for a bit. It seemed there was one server manning the joint and although busy, he was good about checking in with me and getting my orders in. I started with a drink and after some consultation, decided on the burger with fries. This may be my fault for not asking questions but the burger was just a regular burger - no Hawaiian flair, which I was expecting so that was a bit of a let down. The burger was fine, the fries were top 10 I've ever had, and the drink was delicious. I'd certainly return and try some other items from their menu.

Yelp
Nice little restaurant with a small bar, attached to a boutique hotel. I came here for an afternoon happy hour and for breakfast while I was on a work trip. The bartenders during happy hour were super fun and pleasant, great conversation and great deals on food and appetizers. The food was quite tasty! One thing that could be better is that the food preparation during breakfast was a bit slow, perhaps the kitchen might have been a little behind on prep during opening that day or something. Great place to stop by if you're in the area.

Yelp
2 stars for effort. I am highly disappointed. This is definitely not the same quality of food as it was about a year ago. I already knew coming here that the previous owner and chef were gone. We ordered the loco moco and the Hawaiian plate. Both dishes were nothing special. I could probably go to a chain, fast-food Hawaiian place down the road and get the same quality of food. I had the kalua pork w/the Hawaiian plate-it was a bit salty for my taste and spicy! Not sure why they decided to do that. However, let's talk about the macaroni salad-this was not your traditional Mac salad except that it was cold. It was basically cheese Mac w/curdled cheese and no flavor. Just as a reviewer (below), said the same exact thing I was thinking-the minute I looked at the food, I could tell something was different. It was definitely the taste and quality. I agree, it is really sad that they can't or won't, keep up with the past quality and customer service of this place. Good luck, I won't be back.

Yelp
Today it was very busy. Switchboard has very few tables within the restaurant itself. There is seating within the cafe, in the restaurant, and in the hotel lobby. There is a bar and bar seating right as you enter. We were attended to immediately at the start. Initially, we got a seat at the cafe, but after that, we moved to the main restaurant once someone left. We ordered our drinks - greygoose cranberry for the hubby and a cappuccino for me. Hubby's came pretty quickly within 10 minutes. Mine took way longer. Trying to look for someone to let them know that my drink hasn't come was very trying. Each time someone walked past, my hubby tried to wave then down but was ignored. By the time we finally got the attention of someone, my cappuccino finally came. That said, cappuccino was pretty good. Strong coffee and delicious. Hubby's greygoose cranberry was weak for the first drink and over strong for the second drink. It was inconsistent. I ordered spicy pork kogi Hawaiian plate. And my hubby had bulgogi beef Hawaiian plate. My spicy pork kogi had very little pork. It had like 4 pieces of pork total. It was seasoned well but it was overcooked and dry. It came with Mac salad and I thought that was just ok. My hubby's beef bulgogi was just ok. The way it was seasoned- it had a very strong taste of ginger. It was overpowering for him. It was ok for me. Beef was cooked better than the pork it was juicy. He added eggs over easy and those were good. I also had an espresso martini. And that was really good. Coffee and alcohol was a good balance. When we tried to pay, it took awhile to try and wave someone down as well. Overall, it had very slow service. Food was not fantastic but has potential. Would I come back? Yes, for drinks and maybe other food. The other patrons who did not order the Hawaiian plates look like they had decent portions. I'll give it one more try. Hope it gets better. Maybe I just ordered something that is not their specialty.

Yelp
All you need is a good story sometimes! I was impressed reading about local Marine vet Kevin Shin and his plans for a city block of goodness. His businesses rank high on my list of favorite places in our foodie City of Oceanside. A hotel, coffee shop, art gallery restaurant (all reviewed individually). My first visit to one of his establishments was here at The Switchboard, a Hawaiian inspired restaurant. We have visited for lunch and dinner and were welcomed with the dogs. The lunch was bold, but breakfast even bolder with fabulous offerings made with SPAM to the best chicken and waffles I have ever eaten The drinks are tropical and pair with the food. Everything Kevin does he seems to do with heart and he will likely introduce himself when he can. Thanks for creating these wonderful spaces open to opportunity in O'side. Happy you are here! Aloha and thank you for your service! #TheSwitchboard #Oceanside #CoastHighway #ALittleAloha

Yelp
We love love the vibe of this place and the ambience was really good. It's part of a hotel, which is kind of cool too so if you ever thought about eating and just staying at this place and then cruising down to the beach in Oceanside, then this is your spot. the Hawaiian food here was really really good and I highly recommend the loco moco! They were a little bit on the high-end side for not that much food, but it was really flavorful. This location is also located near the heart of Oceanside and their little downtown district. You should definitely stop by this place.

Yelp
We received amazing service for a late dinner. With 3 kids in tow, the staff did a great job taking care of us. This place is pretty upscale and not the first place you'd choose to take your kids. So thank you kindly! I thought the food was A-OK. Beautiful presentation, but our dishes were just alright. For me I wouldn't bookmark as a place to come back to. What attracted us to the Switchboard were the Hawaiian dishes. For Masubi and BBQ Chicken Platter we'd be ok at L&L!

Yelp
This was a lovely little spot in Oceanside. Steven, our waiter was so friendly and personable. We tried the happy hour Kayla pork fries which were my daughter's favorite. I had the tuna poke bowl with sesame dressing and it was delicious. My daughter had the island chicken sando which was also tasty. Tasteful music and a quaint setting....it was a nice experience.

Yelp
We've been exploring this side of Oceanside more and more and had a weekend afternoon of walking around and dropping in on bars for a drink and a bite to eat. This was our last stop of the afternoon and I was glad we finally made it here. I saw this place on Yelp and then we have passed by it many times making our way around other restaurants in the area. The place is cute inside and we were greeted immediately and sat down at the bar. I ordered a white tiger and my husband ordered a dirty dolphin (espresso martini). We loved both of these drinks. Then we decided to get some food: the banchan pickled vegetables (our favs were the pickled garlic and kimchi), spam musubi (amazing since I've only ever had this dish cold I thought I didn't like it but damn was it good) and the Kalua pork fries. All the food was so good. We finished off the afternoon with another round of drinks- I asked for something fruity with vodka and got a pineapple passion fruit mix from a previous cocktail menu- amazing. I loved it! And my husband ordered The Switchboard (a Knob Creek old fashioned). The ladies working the bar were great- attentive and kind with great suggestions. We will most definitely be back.

Yelp
How anyone can give this establishment anything less than 5-stars is beyond me. My fiancé and I have frequented The Switchboard since April 2024 and have loved our experience here each and every time. We mostly come for date night but we've celebrated our birthdays and our engagement here. When we're making dinner plans with friends and family, it's easily our go-to spot. It's small but so vibey for any occasion. I haven't been let down by a single menu item or tasty cocktail and there is always a fantastic specials menu to try something new. The real highlight of this place is the friendly and attentive staff, specifically our favorite bartender, Stephen. Not only is he the sweetest person ever, he is a cocktail wizard. He will go above and beyond for you to ensure your experience is amazing and magical.

Yelp
I loved my experience here! Service was great and the food and drinks were fantastic! I love that it's veteran owned and that it is in a historic building that during World War II was commandeered as a communication center in support of the war effort. It's chicly decorated with old switch boards all around and its name is inspired by the women that worked in this significant building. Love that! We were greeted right away and sat right away. Service was top notch the whole time. Our food arrived quickly and was fresh. I will always order a spam musubi if it's on the menu and theirs did not disappoint. The Gochujang syrup on the chicken and waffles was to die for and the kimchi Bloody Mary was so unique and delish! Everything was great! Captured here are: The Dirty Dolphin espresso martini made with local coffee and local vodka Kimchi Bloody Maryvodka, bloody mix & kimchi Both SO delicious! Chocolate milk Spam Musubi Pancakes Potato medley Chicken & Waffles Island French Toast Bill Street Breakfast Sandwich Loved it all!

Yelp
They charged taxes when I bought a gift certificate! What is this about? (Is it a pre-paid tax? Meaning that they won't charge me a tax when I use the gift certificate?)

Yelp
Well, you know what they say about the best laid plans. Despite making a plan to check out The Switchboard, and actually sticking to it, I still managed to mess up. Not that my experience was at all bad, obviously. It's just that if I had done the proper research, instead of deciding deciding purely based on convenience, this might have been even better! At the very least, I would've discovered how much they have to offer...which, to be honest, is far more than I expected! At a glance, if you walked in from the street, The Switchboard might look a lot like any other cute coffee shop out there. However, if you venture through the doorway on the side (or come in that way), you'll see they're actually a full restaurant/bar that's attached to The Fin hotel next door. The lounge area has a relaxed vibe with an interesting cocktail menu, but what really stands out is their Hawaiian inspired food menu. Whether you're coming in for brunch, dinner, or anything in between, they have so many enticing things to choose from! -- HILL STREET BREAKFAST SANDWICH - Scallion Omelet, Bacon, Cheddar, Kimchi Aioli, Hawaiian Bun with Free Week Drip Coffee...$8 (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-switchboard-restaurant-and-bar-oceanside?select=BIPbxgGVUrrKVov3xYnvNA) Honestly, my picture didn't do this justice. The (King's Hawaiian?) bun was super soft and flavorful, but the omelet was what really impressed. It's simple, but so tasty with the melted cheese and the aioli. Another piece of bacon would've been great, but that applies to everything! -- SPAM MUSUBI - Nori Wrapped Spicy Pork and Meat and Sticky White Rice with Kimchi Aioli...$4 (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-switchboard-restaurant-and-bar-oceanside?select=fuzNXt8lGFUATXKQNH0dRw) Maybe I'm too used to Bay Area prices, but this didn't seem bad for $4. Not to mention the fact that this was also really good! The rice was tender, the SPAM was decently thick and juicy, and I loved that it came with a side of kimchi aioli! While the food was certainly fantastic, the service here isn't far behind. The two workers working on the coffee side were both super friendly and more than happy to help the two people ahead of me with their questions. What's more, after ordering the musubi and sandwich, I also asked for a house coffee...without realizing that the sandwich already includes one. They easily could've tacked on another one and made a few extra bucks, and it would've been my fault for not paying attention, but the girl working the register made sure I didn't end up with two. Easy to say that she did the right/obvious thing, but it doesn't mean it's any less appreciated! As much as I enjoyed my breakfast (and the coffee, which was quite delicious), I can't help but wonder how much better it could've been. Had I known they had so many intriguing dishes to offer, I definitely would've planned to snag a seat outside to eat instead of just grabbing food to go. I mean, if their SPAM musubi and breakfast sandwich were this good, I can only wonder how good the likes of their Korean Loco Moco, Korean Fried Chicken & Waffles, Kahlua Pork Fries, and K-Pop Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich might be. I guess I just have that much more of a compelling reason to come back to Oceanside...and The Switchboard!

Yelp
The Switchboard, Oceanside, CA - November 22, 2023 We came here at about 5 pm on a Wednesday to meet my cousin and her husband for drinks, dinner, and fun. My cousin and her husband were staying at the Finn Hotel, which is connected to the Switchboard. There were 6 people in our party. The Switchboard is a quaint and comfortable bar and restaurant that has a nice counter bar with a few tables. If your party is a little larger like our was, you can sit over in the hotel lobby area, which has a high top table with six chairs. The is also a lounge area at the hotel that has some couches and a low top table next to a shuffleboard game. We started off by ordering drinks and sitting in the hotel lounge area, conversing and playing a little shuffleboard. We then ordered dinner at the Switchboard and sat at the hightop table and continued to talk and enjoy our meals and drinks. Our bartender/server's name was Hailey. She was as friendly and engaging as you could ever hope for. She made us some terrific drinks - a whiskey liqueur drink similar to the Buccaneer over at the Rooftop Bar and a Hailey-award-winning espresso martini called the Dirty Dolphin. We ordered a brussel sprouts appetizer, three poke salads, a chicken salad, a fish and chips, a miso soup, and a kimchi. Everyone was happy with their meals. This is a great little hangout and my cousin said the hotel room they were in was nice as well.

Yelp
Good food! Stopped in on a whim and were greeted very nicely. Comfy seating, nice ambiance, great drinks, and nice family atmosphere. Will be coming back for sure!

Yelp
Wanted to try this place due to it being highly recommended by Yelp visitors and Reddit. Came here with a large group and we were HIGHLY disappointed with the food. Let's start with the good. We had the Dirty Dolphin and the Drunken Hombre. Drinks were well made and actually tasted good. Gave us a good morning buzz. The bad: Loco moco 1/5 - the large patty was extremely dry. It was cooked well done. This is the main part of the dish but wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The only good part of this dish was the gravy l. Poke Salad 1/5 - the seasoning used for the poke was extremely salty. It was so salty, we had to avoid any of the items touching the sauce at the bottom. Cheeseburger 2/5 - not much to rave about except it's basic. The fries were good though. Hawaiian plate 2/5 - pork was extremely soft which I liked but it seemed to be missing a little bit of that Hawaiian sweet sauce on the side that gets drizzled on. I'd recommend only coming here for drinks.

Yelp
Okay, where to begin. I've been to Switchboard 3 times and it honestly gets better and better! I would go more often but before I make my way I have to make sure the bartender who served me the first time is there. I believe his name is Stephen. I like to sit at the bar and he makes the experience 10x better, the service he provides is what keeps bringing me back.OH, and the drinks! He made me a pillbox cocktail that was so incredibly delicious. I start off my visit with that drink, followed up with a mai thai which is just as amazing as the ones I've had in Hawaii! My first visit, I only got drinks. The second visit I made sure to have a meal with. They were having a special of steak and a side of vegetables. It was unbelievable! The steak was cooked perfectly to a medium rare with a slightly thick sauce or glaze? on top. It added a ever so slight touch of sweetness. It complimented the meat beautifully. I remember liking the vegetables but I was so enamored by the steak I cannot tell you much about them ahaha. My most recent visit was last night and it did not disappoint! I wasn't planning to stop by in as dinner was already planned out at home but I saw the awesome bartender working and couldn't resist! It was packed when I got there and only one seat was available at the bar. Despite the busyness, I was greeted right away and got my drink order in. I ordered the fish and chips per Stephen's recommendations and was pleasantly impressed when it came out! Instead of a big piece of fillet, the fish was cut up like chicken tenders. I actually preferred this method because one: it was easier to eat and two: there was an even coat of batter around each bite of fish. I loved it! Especially the spicy sauce they add on the side. Not a fan of tar tar so I was happy with that sauce instead! It's going to be hard trying the other food items on the menu my next visit because I'll probably want to have this meal again and again Overall the service was great considering such a busy rush and I WILL be back again :)

Yelp
After staying at the fin for a full week and swinging in every day, I was super sad to leave because of how special the switchboard is. We came with a larger group almost every day and we were always served so quick. The place is so cute and unique, the food and drinks are spectacular, but nothing is better than the entire staff here. I would come back in a heartbeat for some coconut shrimp and a cold gonzo mania any day

Yelp
BRAND NEW OWNERS. PLACE IS TRASH NOW!!! Wow. What a horrible experience. Never opened on time. The food was NOT good. To the point I didn't spend my $30 a day given from Hilton. Miso soup was room temp because they didn't turn on the warmer. The Hawaiian beef was gross pot roast mixed with kimchi. Rice wasn't cooked. Pasta salad had no flavor. While in there multiple other complaints. People got up and just walked out. Literally out of everything. Kept blaming it all on a change of ownership. What a shame. It used to be so so so so good. What I was looking forward to on my most recent stay. Walk a block down the street to LTH. What a honest disappointment.

Yelp
I knew it! As soon as my order arrived i can see the change immediately. The Hawaiian plate Mac Salad was a different color. The chicken looked cheap. I asked the server if there is a new owner and he confirmed yes. The chicken was over cooked and portion size was less. How can you ruin a good thing!?!?? They succeeded at it. A++ Will not be back. Hope the new owner/chef gets a wake up call, in which I assume he has hence the major drop in sales.

Yelp
This place had a lot right but unfortunately, they also got a lot wrong. Went in and ordered food to go, my wife got a glass of wine and I had the Tequila Gulán, añejo. The ambiance, the staff, the drinks, all on point. The real hiccup came I can only guess from the kitchen but then again, when your a special order kinda people, I always get nervous when they don't write it down. The girl that took the order did not write it down and when we got back to the house with the food, everyone had things that they asked not to have. Salad with no onions, had onions. Salad asked for with no to,stores, had tomatoes. A couple of other food additions or subtractions were also missed but I had given up paying attention at this point. The wine and tequilas were delicious, that made the whole experience a little more palatable but I do hope they either write special orders down in the future or work on the kitchen staff paying closer attention to the input from the server. Either way, we will give the benefit of the doubt to the establishment and next time we are in Oceanside, we will try again.

Yelp
Skipping the Sunset Market on Thursdays? Make your way on over to The Switchboard! The staff, Stephan (spelling?), was super attentive and the food was delicious. For food, I ordered the Seoul Burger & Fries. For drinks, I ordered the Pillbox and a traditional Whiskey Sour (my usual). If you love coconut and rum, then you'll love the Pillbox cocktail. I'll be back to try the Bibimbap.

Yelp
Service was nice. Place was comfy in an attached to a hotel kind of way. My issue is with the food. I ordered the bulgogi and it was pretty uninspired. Small portion for over 20 bucks and not very flavorful. There is a much tastier Hawaiian fast food chain just down the road that gives much larger portions for the same price.

Yelp
This is my first ever review that isn't 5 stars. I used to love Switchboard. The food was flavorful, staff was attentive, and anything you ordered was great. However, since changing owners and chefs, the food has gone completely downhill. I gave it 2 tries since the new owners/chef, and I will not be back. So upsetting, as this was my favorite Oceanside restaurant. I hope the new ownership will read these reviews and see how much of their loyal clientele will never be back because of the changes made. What a shame

Yelp
Presently surprised with the new menu. There has been a change to the chef and they have got back on track. The wait staff is amazing. The small bar and dining room makes everything seem more intimate and enhances your dining experience. The bartenders are amazing and make you feel like you are a regular.

Yelp
This was one of my favorite spots for food and drinks but when we just went today the food was completely different and the menu changed. We learned there is new ownership and new chef... they are now a part of Hilton. Super bummed out to hear this. Food quality totally went down the drain. This was one of the best poke spots in San Diego and now it's awful... it's not even poke and was topped with old iceberg lettuce. Makes me sad. On a positive note, the servers were very sweet and accommodating. Unfortunately we won't be back anymore.

Yelp
Service was excellent, thanks to Rebecca, our server. The food was high quality and promptly served. Ambiance was interesting and cozy with historical feel. I would recommend The Switchboard to those who are adventurous and open to enjoying tasteful Korean Hawaiian fusion cuisine. A plus for me is the coffee bar connected to the restaurant in addition to their own traditional bar. There is indoor as well as outdoor patio seating for flexibility with larger groups.

Yelp
My wife and I were downtown looking for a place to eat and she saw this place advertising Hawaiian food. I got excited because I'm always looking for good local food. I am a native Hawaiian, so I know what it is supposed to taste like. The only reason they get two stars is because the staff was very friendly. Also, if you're going to serve "Hawaiian" food, make sure you actually consult a Hawaiian or two. We got two "Hawaiian Plates" with the chicken, an order of the musubi, and bulgogi lettuce wraps. Let me just say that price vs portion is ridiculous. Way over priced for an extremely small portion of food. Now for the food ~ The "Hawaiian Plate" - There's absolutely nothing Hawaiian about it. The entire plate tasted as if it was from a cheap Chinese takeout. The Mac salad which is the easiest thing to make was disgusting and had no taste. The chicken had a weird texture, and no flavor, and the fried rice was hard, dry and also had hardly any flavor. "Musubi" - First of all $10 for two small, poorly made musubi is a crime. The flavor was fine I guess, but it was made sloppily, and was extremely basic. No sauce, no egg, barely cooked spam, no nothing to justify it being $10. "Bulgogi Lettuce Wraps" - This entire dish is a joke. 4ish little pieces of meat, 2 slivers of bell pepper over a mangy piece of lettuce. It comes with 4 pieces of lettuce total. I do have to say that the flavor of the bulgogi was good, but the portion size for $17 is atrocious. All in all 0/10, we won't be going back.

Yelp
Service Walked in, greeted with frowns, relocated to a different part of the dining room, asked about playing the shuffleboard that they had, which they told us not to use, and then the two servers or bartenders, who weren't doing anything, proceeded not to serve us.

Yelp
This is a good breakfast place. I liked the Korean Loco Moco, though the meat wasn't well seasoned. But the presentation was on point. I got seated quickly at the bar in this tiny restaurant. The bartender was nice enough. I'm not sure if the Korean flavors were really present, but it looked fine.

Yelp
This was kind of a weird experience. Been wanting to try this place for quite a while. Seems like I may have missed my chance to experience the good version... Walked in for lunch and sat at the bar. 2 bartender/servers behind the bar. One of them asked me what I was drinking. I ordered a coke. She asked me if I wanted food too, or was I just there to drink. Which seemed a little odd, and she wasn't being funny. Just kind of not really paying much attention. She seemed like a manager and I listened to her telling the other girl about how one of their co-workers who wasn't there that day didn't have a good table-side manner and wasn't very good at her job. While she was giving me pretty lackluster service. And I'm not super picky. And they weren't very busy. And all of this took quite a while to play out. I'm literally sitting in arms reach of you listening to you talk crap about your co-worker's serving abilities while not serving me or being particularly friendly? Probably should have just bailed at that point. Narrowed it down to the Hawaiian plate or chicken katsu sandwich. Asked the (non-manger seeming) girl which I should order and she said 'oh, the katsu sandwich! It's delicious!' so I took her advice and ordered it. Took quite a while to come out but once it did it looked really good. This was the best experience of the lunch. When they set that sandwich in front of me and it looked really good-at first. Thick grilled bread, looked like a good amount of chicken, lots of fries that looked tasty. The bread was good but the chicken was overcooked, bland, and really dry. Like you could look at it and see that it was too dark and had been overcooked. This should never come out of the kitchen. Pretty consistent of the whole vibe of the place though. The manager girl asked me 'how's everything tasting'. She had been to each table asking the same and I was her last stop. She didn't look at me or stop moving really when she asked so I just said 'eh, pretty good'. My delivery, while polite, was very obviously unhappy. She said great and moved on. I ate half and asked for a box for the rest. I should have said something or sent it back but I don't do that.. So, I've got half of an overcooked chicken sandwich waiting the requisite couple days in my fridge to be tossed out. The place is really cool. Like the décor, it's walkable to my place which is cool. Full bar with some decent sounding cocktails and good beers. Not sure I'm willing to give them another shot though. After tax and tip it was $25 and change for a sandwich and a coke and a pretty lame experience all the way around.

Yelp
We ordered takeout from this Hawaiian-inspired restaurant. Ordered the loco moco, spam musubi, and bbq plate. Everything was a little underwhelming, tbh, but maybe we would've appreciated the meal more sitting at the restaurant, whose bar area looked very charming.

Yelp
Incredible breakfast, the food and ambiance exceeded our expectations. The restaurant itself is very intimate in size & is located on the first floor of a hotel. Our group was seated right away, and the service was great. It took a little while for our food to be prepared but once we received the food, we were impressed about the quality of each dish. Must haves: Korean fried chicken and waffles & the kimchi loco moco! If you're in Oceanside, please make this a part of your trip!

Yelp
Streetfront building on PCH. Indoor and outdoor seating. Street parking only as far as I know, but we found 2 hour parking on the closest side street. Full service, sitdown casual restaurant. Fast and friendly service. Dog friendly, too! We came for breakfast on a Sunday. Seems like an Asian inspired menu. I tried spam musubi, Korean loco moco, and Korean chicken and waffles to eat. Drink was cinnamon honey latte. Everything was amazing! Loco moco was a much bigger serving than the waffles, for what it's worth. I'd say reasonably priced for everything, though.

Yelp
Food was ehh. Burger i ordered seemed like a pre-made patty. Service was horrible. Only one waiter/bartender and a bus girl. I ordered a Mai Tai after sitting down, which the waiter forgot and I had to remind the busgirl when SHE brought our food out. Waiter came around after to checkin and my wife asked for more sauce since her sandwich had hardly any. He apparently forgot again and spent the next 15 min making drinks at the bar. I had to get up and ask the bus girl for it. She deserved more of a tip than the waiter. Don't know his name, he didn't give it. I also thought his appearance wearing sweat pants and tennis sneakers was inappropriate for the atmosphere the owner was going for.

Yelp
Great spot for breakfast. Good coffee. Great brunch cocktails. And amazingly inventive brunch dishes. The drinks were great. Especially my creamy gin drink with homemade raspberry purée. The tiki rice bowls are gluten free and they give you a choice of protein. I got Portuguese sausage and my friend got tofu. Both were fun. Our other friend got the Korean chicken and waffles and couldn't stop raving about it. I wish I wasn't gluten free so I could try it. The service was excellent. The food fun. Drinks delicious. Fun spot for a brunch with the girlfriends!
