Fried Chicken Purveyor Whistle Britches Opens in Southlake | Eater Dallas

"Expanding across North Texas with new spots slated for Heritage Creekside in Plano and two Dallas locations at 14999 Preston Road and 12300 Inwood Road (bringing the chain to seven total), Taco Joint is known for its breakfast tacos and burritos, chalupas, and the signature “disaster” queso mixed with ground sirloin, guacamole, and pico de gallo." - Brittanie Shey

I've only been here once and it was pretty good overall. I had 3 single tacos: crispy beef, spicy pork and street taco (fajita beef). The crispy beef was my favorite by far and one of the better crispy beef tacos I've had in a long while. Spicy pork was good and the fajita beef was meh. The 2 self serve salsa options are good. I'm mad at myself for forgetting to ask for the other non self serve options they have available. Clean restaurant and great service. I loved the music theme, the album covers everywhere and the music that was being played. I'll definitely be back for the crispy beef taco and the chili ambience.

This place is amazing. I tried the beef sirloin soft tacos, and a side of rice. The salsa taste good and paired well with the tacos I ate. The staff were friendly, and the service was excellent! I definitely will be going back to try more of the menu!!!

The service was excellent. The food is terrible. I ordered the brisket taco combo. The tacos are overpriced for minimal meat and semi-warm tortillas. The beans were bland and tasted if they came straight from the can. Plus, they had dry spots throughout. The rice tasted as if it were reconstituted from the day before, the queso had semi-decent flavor but was not smooth, the chips tasted burned. This was not Tex-mex - this was a complete waste of money as the landfill got 99% of the order.

I wanted to love this place but it was just ok. I have a hunch that microwaves are used (wouldn't Gordan Ramsey be upset). But the food was out fast, lol. Chicken street taco needed some seasoning, it almost tasted sweet, very strange. Chorizo and egg taco was good. Taco combo was ok, beans tastes better than they looked but rice wasn't very good. Seating was comfortable and atmosphere was cool!

Really wanted to like this restaurant! We ordered 2 brisket & egg tacos. The brisket was dry and unseasoned, and the eggs were scrambled too hard. Adding the salsa helped a smidge, but there was otherwise no flavor.

We tried Taco Joint for the first time today, and it was yummy. The staff were friendly, the restaurant was clean, and the restroom was clean. We went in for a late lunch, so we avoided the lunch crowd. It was really nice. My daughter and I each ordered a two taco combo. I had beef crispy, and she had street tacos. I can't wait to go back.

Update: We brought the whole family today to eat at our favorite local spot before the Texas Longhorns play Rice. This time tried the Breakfast Enchiladas and the Taco Combo also We are so glad we tried this new texmex place! Super friendly staff, very clean and tasty food! We had the spicy pulled pork taco salad and the Big B spicy pulled pork. Great flavor on the pulled pork with little fat, but it was very juicy. We will definitely be back!

I ordered the Migas Taco on corn tortillas with a side of chopped lettuce and tomatoes. I also ordered a cheese enchilada with chili con carne. The salsa bar offered red salsa, green salsa, and a spicy ranch. The enchilada was too greasy and oddly presented in an aluminum tin. The Migas Taco was good with the paid addition of lettuce and tomatoes. The lady taking the orders behind the counter seemed annoyed and acted like she really didn't want to be there. I asked for water, but she never gave me a cup. I ended up getting it from the counter myself. The prices are very inexpensive, but I probably wouldn't eat here again based on my experience.
