"Dallas-based taqueria chain Taco Joint is in expansion mode, with a handful of new restaurants set to open in North Texas this fall. One of those restaurants, at Heritage Creekside in Plano, will be the chain’s first expansion out of Dallas proper, according to CultureMap. Two more new spots are expected to open in Dallas, at 14999 Preston Road and 12300 Inwood Road. That’ll bring the chain’s total locations to seven. Taco Joint is known for its breakfast tacos and burritos, chalupas, and “disaster” queso, mixed with ground sirloin, guacamole, and pico de gallo." - Brittanie Shey

I just ate the best breakfast taco I've ever had! I love tacos, and it's hard to find a breakfast taco the way I like them. The Taco Joint did not disappoint! Hat's off to the chef and whoever owns this place! Also, the customer service was A-1! The cashier was very nice, friendly, and easy to talk to! 🤗

Google
Just discovered the Taco Joint and I'm so happy that I found it. I love ❤️ Mexican food and this place rocked my world with their delicious food. 5 star food. I get it delivered and it's still wonderful. Thank you for making your food with love. I can tell that each dish is prepared with loving hands. Kimberly VanNostran

Order at the counter taco/Mexican fast food restaurant in a new upscale strip mall. Parking can be limited close to the restaurant but plenty of available at the east end of the building. Food selection is ample. The tacos and burritos where very good. And the best thing is the dog friendly patio!!! Recommend.

Google
Tried Taco Joint for the first time - pretty decent. The place itself is awesome - huge inside and great decor. We tried the chips and queso - pretty good. We ordered several different items - quesadillas, brisket tacos, salad, enchiladas, a fish taco, and a burrito. All were good, I would say the brisket was a little tough. Honestly, the rice and beans were awesome! All in all, it’s a great place to try - you’ll find something you like - great menu.

Google
I ordered a taco salad with ground sirloin. I ordered it via a food delivery app. When my meal arrived, the meat was cold (I know that is probably not their fault). The taco salad was nothing to write home about. The salad dressing tastes like store bought Italian dressing. The guacamole tasted like pre-made pre-packaged guacamole like you would find at the grocery store. Overall, I was happy with my order. Although, I would not order the salad again.

Google
Ordered pick up as I always do. This is my 3rd visit to this location. Every visit has been sub par. I love the LH location. For whatever reason this location just doesn't do a great job. This time my Evan taco was so small I thought maybe it was wrong, nope- just tiny. It was small previously, but not as bad. Other tacos were about average. Previous visit here the bean and cheese weren't wrapped well so they stuck to the wrapper so bad I had to use a knife just to get the filling back in the tortilla. It's just taco. Shouldn't be that hard. I'll just drive back to Lake Highlands, farther and inconvenient, but consistently good. Oh, The Staff were nice and the place looked clean.

Google
Restaurant was clean. Staff were polite. The food was fast but fresh. Salsa was good. I had the ground sirloin soft tacos. Very good. Would definitely recommend.

Google
Wanted some local tacos and found this location randomly near my hotel, and was glad I stopped in. Got the Dr J's Chips & Queso (this is enough for 2+ people) and the 3 ground sirloin tacos combo. It was PLENTY of food for one person, and was really quite good. This location has staff that are very friendly, and pretty relentless at keeping the place clean. Seating is plentiful inside and out, and I believe their selection of various alcohols are good as well. Well worth taking the time to stop in here and enjoy a meal...I know if I was local a certain national taco chain would never, ever get money from me again after eating here!

Yelp
This is a great fast casual place to grab a bite to eat. The decor of 80s posters and album covers gives you plenty to take in as you enjoy your meal. The counter service was friendly and the food came out fairly quite for a busy lunch time.

Denise T.

Yelp
The food was good the meat made the quesadilla a bit soggy but very yummy over all. The service was 10/10 the cashier was very kind and patient. The ambiance was calm and the joint had good music playing.

Yelp
My partner found this place and wanted me to try it. It's located right across from Flying Fish(another place I want to try). I ordered chips and jalapeño ranch, Friday special 2 fried shrimp tacos and tortilla soup. He ordered 1 grilled shrimp taco and 1 grilled fish taco(Cod). The person who rang us up wasn't very friendly, but maybe, he's not a morning person or going through something. My fried shrimp was ok, but I really liked the grilled shrimp one and also, I wish they use corn tortillas for tacos, but maybe, that's Tex-Mex way then? IDK. The tortilla soup was ok, but my partner liked it and I really liked the jalapeño ranch. It kind of reminds me of Fuzzy Tacos, especially inside. It was a good experience over all to be able to try it, so I could write a review about it.

Jim W.

Yelp
The food isn't worth the price. With so many Tex-Mex places in the Dallas area this place does nothing to stand out from the crowd. Maybe this is the go to place after drinking when you don't mind what you eat. As others have stated, Taco Bell would be a better choice.

Matthew J.

Yelp
So me and the wife were out in Plano and had a few hours to burn so we decided to stop off at the taco joint. When we walked in, there was no line and we were able to order immediately. It took about 5 to 7 minutes for the food to come out. I had the picoso burrito combo with chicken and my wife had a brisket taco combo. I remember the burrito had chicken and cheese inside as well as onions and topped off with queso cheese. Your tortilla was pretty thick and hard, but the burrito was still pretty tasty. The Salsa bar was good too, try out that Jalapeño ranch. I would come back to try out more of their wide variety of tacos and salads.

Lucy H.

Yelp
Had take-out--one order was left out; the big beefy burrito had very little meat Jalapeño ranch was good and queso was good.

Erica S.

Yelp
My husband had a dentist appointment down the street from here and we searched on my Yelp and this place caught our eye, cause who doesn't love some good tacos!? We walked in and we're instantly greeted by the guy behind the cash register. The place already had a few people in line and a couple tables already taken, which is a good sign for 1030 am. We took our time scanning the menu and decided on Dr. J's Chips and Queso (I think that's what it was called), 2 brisket tacos, 1 Spicy Fried Chicken Taco, and 1 Spicy Grilled Shrimp Taco. We made them 2 Taco Combo Plates which saves you a couple bucks and adds rice and beans plus a slice of avocado and some lettuce and tomatoes on the side and also a drink. We found our seat at the back where we could really enjoy all the decor and also be tucked away from the front. Not long after our chips and queso was brought out and maybe 3 min after that our main food arrived to our table. Definitely fast service. Now for the tacos, the brisket taco was good but it was missing some pizazz, not sure what but I would have loved some other goodies added to the straight brisket and corn tortilla, but it wasn't bad. But man oh man, the spicy grilled shrimp taco was soooo good! It was a flour tortilla stuffed with flavorful shrimp and all the goodies!! I'd definitely get it again! And the rice and beans were a great addition and really topped the meal off. We are always looking to going back soon to try some more tasty options.

Yelp
After a long and patient wait, Taco Joint in Plano is finally open!!! By the looks of the lines and filled tables in the dining room, I wasn't the only one who'd been ready for my favorite Lakewood neighborhood taco shop to arrive closer to home. My running group regularly visits the Lakewood location and I love the neighborhood feel, casual vibe and really good food. I'm happy to report the Plano location delivers the same experience. Yes there are kinks in service and equipment they're still working out. They've been open less than two weeks as of the writing of this review. But those are so minor and everything else is so great that I can't take any stars away. * Breakfast tacos are epic. Have them. (And you can have them anytime of day because the breakfast menu never closes.) * There are daily lunch specials. * Get your own salsa from the 3-sauce bar. The tomatillo is my favorite. I can't wait for the trails to get connected once the Collin Creek development finishes. This will be a wonderful place to meet up with friends after a walk, run or ride.

Jeff M.

Yelp
The place is great on top of a green space to enjoy! The brisket taco was very good and the eggs they use are real eggs and not fake like McDonald's. I also love the coffee they use, it's not burnt tastes like Starbucks. I'm done with Starbucks and will be going here for my coffee on the go.

Robb G.

Yelp
First time at Taco Joint. We ordered 2 combos which came with a drink that we didn't need since we ordered adult beverages. I recommend ordering a la carte. Service was pretty fast too. They did get my order wrong which I didn't really notice until it was too late. I actually liked what I got better. So all good. Nice place with an outdoor patio in back overlooking the parking lot. Great addition to the area.

Kylie H.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying HOLY COW THE FOOD COMES OUT QUICK! Never had that fast of service before, you would think that the food would be shit, but it's quite the opposite. Walking inside felt like I was on the pier in Galveston Tx. Loved the bass wall too and the tables and booths reminded me of an older restaurant from the 70's. Also gives off fishing with grandpa vibes. LOVE IT!

Owen M.

Yelp
Just ok- please put someone on the register thats not afraid to speak to grown ups. I like the inside with some interesting wall art. Spicy pork crispy taco was tasty. Grilled fish taco was terrible- looked like fish was nuked- no flavor no grill marks. Wife got Big B burrito and it was almost all beans- maybe thats what the B stands for? Queso was good and chips were good. Overall- nobody would come here but for the good location next to rodeo goat.

Jay W.

Yelp
Late Tuesday evening supper. Great service and friendly staff. My date got the fish tacos. Contrary to other reviews, the fish was seasoned and requested corn tortillas were warm. Nothing jaw dropping but they were good. I had the chicken taco salad. Bag lettuce or not, I have no idea. Overall it was good. Avocados were fresh. Habanero ranch has a definite kick. Watch out. Chips and queso were solid. Overall decent meal.

Sara H.

Yelp
I was finally able to try this place out last week, overall it was pretty good. I got two crispy tacos which were good on flavor but the shell was thin and broke with one bite. I honestly didn't mind it much and just broke it on my bowl and ate it that way but that might be a problem for others. They have a wide variety of salsas, extra spicy ones if you ask for it too. Not pictured is the beef street taco which was just ok, not great.

Chaps L.

Yelp
I like to rate these places against our favorite quick taco place, Torchys. Food- The tacos were good. I had 1 grilled chicken taco and 1 shrimp taco. The grilled chicken taco had a lot of lettuce...I mean a lot. The ratio of lettuce to chicken was pretty lopsided. The spicy shrimp taco was the better of the two by far. The taco had a ton of shrimp and all the spice was perfect. The chips and queso were the star of the meal without a doubt. This place has a ton of menu choices. In fairness, I probably didn't order their best menu items. Atmosphere- Nice comfortable atmosphere with plenty of seating and the music was good. Good vibes for sure. I want to mention that the staff were really nice and helpful. Price- The prices are about what you would expect from a place like this. 4 tacos/queso/margaritas =$36 Conclusion- Taco Joint isn't as good as Torchys IMO but a little less expensive and close to home for me. I would recommend that you look over the menu a little more thoroughly than I did. I'm sure that there is something on that vast menu that is fantastic.

Jessica M.

Yelp
Ordered delivery. The tacos were good! The queso and jalapeño dip were so good but didn't love the salsa.

Julie D.

Yelp
Great food and it's above Taco Bell by far and better than OTB as well I like the quality of meat and it's flavorful without any sauce. I like the queso but not sure the price is worth it. Honestly, I Doordash weekend go to now.

Emily M.

Yelp
Delicious food, kind staff and clean restrooms. 10/10! The daily specials are so yummy and include a drink! Fair prices! Be sure to get the queso with everything!

David V.

Yelp
Phenomenal taqueria! So far I've had the street tacos, fajita tacos, brisket tacos, and enchiladas, and everything has been amazing.

Devon Paige G.

Yelp
Taco Bell Quality for 2x the Price First, the service was not great. The guy who took our order seemed pissed off at something that occurred before we got there. I knew this was going to be disappointing when I tried their red salsa. It tastes just like the salsa at Chili's - bland, kind of sweet and mediocre. I tried the tomatillo salsa and it was just straight up green water. The fish taco had no seasoning and the lettuce was clearly from a lettuce mix bag that you buy at the grocery store. The sirloin taco tasted exactly like the beef tacos at Taco Bell. From the tortillas, the grocery store quality cheese and chunks of tomatoes... it is exactly what you would get from Taco Bell. We ordered two combos and it came out to $35 before tip. For that much, I could've gone to a gas station with better tacos or gone to Torchy's, Velvet Taco or even a Tex-Mex restaurant with better tacos. How this place is in business and consistently has four-star ratings are beyond me. But considering their demographic of folks posting the highly rated reviews, I guess it's not that confusing. If you're a fan of this food, I promise you'll get the same stuff at Taco Bell and it won't cost you as much.

J C.

Yelp
The food was not good at all. The street tacos were so greasy and the food was just horrible. The service wasn't that bad. I'm not sure how this place was ranked 3.9.

Doug C.

Yelp
WOW! Everybody came to Sun lunch. The place was packed with friends and families. Lucky to find an open table. We were close to register and could see the staff working fast and furious to get the orders taken and out right away. Prompt cleanup of tables to make way for next party.

Adam R.

Yelp
Lemme start by saying that I happen to like The Taco Joint....well, that is to say I like the Taco Joint downtown Dallas. I started going there the week they opened years ago. Always good. Then I discovered that they opened the Plano location and I thought "cool"! Closer to home without all the morning crowds...so went to Plano location a month or so ago and was disappointed. Not by taste but by the build of the taco. If you sell a +$3 breakfast taco it has better not look like a sad flat quesadilla. But whatever, I took my sad little 5 tacos and chalked it up to a bad day cause everybody has them right? Fast forward to today, I decide to pass up my sure thing downtown Dallas location and give Plano another try. I walk in and see tables covered in boxes for large corporate orders and think great! Business is booming for them! I put in my 5 taco order and I have to tell you..sigh...what's going on with this place? $3 for bean and cheese but whatever I like them that's my thing. But my gosh! No lie maybe a tablespoon and a half of beans on these anorexic tacos( and that's me being generous) . There was so much vacant tortilla space on these things I had to look in the bag and see if maybe I had inadvertently squashed it all out, but nope. So, I hope corporate orders keep up because it's a hard pass for me on this location where quality control seems to be on permanent vacation.

Alex M.

Yelp
This place is a much needed taco joint in this area. Great breakfast tacos to specialized tacos. I have tried everything except for shellfish tacos. Their vegetarian to crazy double decker tacos are all fantastic. Tad is the man! Very friendly ownership and staff. Give this place a try.

Robert G.

Yelp
Street tacos are excellent. Didn't have the sack to try the Delta Force sauce but the verde has a nice kick - I'll be back

Robert G.

Yelp
Pretty average food but a very clean restaurant and friendly staff help secure three stars. We started with chips and queso - it tasted like my mom's recipe she picked up in the 1970's (this isn't a compliment). It was watery and tasted like a block of microwave melted Velveeta mixed with a can of Rotel. Don't get me wrong - it was an oddly comforting reminder of childhood but I don't want to spend money on watery Velveeta at a restaurant. The crispy tacos were next and a complete mess. The taco shells appear to be homemade but by the looks of their shape, a class of distracted kindergartners made them. The shells were not standard in shape, challenging to eat, and shattered immediately after one bite. It would have been easier to break the shells apart and eat the taco components with a spoon and fork. To top it off, the beef was bland - really bland. I don't think they used any type of seasoning. After experiencing their Velveeta cheese dip I expected at least some store bought taco seasoning. Alas - nothing but just flavorless, unseasoned ground beef. Overall, in a town of endless taco joints and Tex-Mex icons I would not place the Taco Joint high on any list. This type of menu may work well in parts of the world without TexMex but falls completely short of DFW minimum standards.

Hugh S.

Yelp
What works: Restaurant is clean. Ordering is simple (at the counter). Food was quick (but the place could only be more empty if it were closed). What doesn't: The food. This place makes cold mashed potatoes exciting. Even the chips & salsa are bleak... Ambiance? None. Verdict: Need a Taco Joint? Go to Taco Cabana.

Amy K.

Yelp
Been waiting for months for this to open. Service was super friendly and restaurant was clean. The food however was a huge disappointment. We got the queso it was super watery and had no flavor. No spice and no real taste. The chips come dry no salt and no flavor. The tacos were good but the salsa was awful. The red sauce was sweet. No taste no heat. The green sauce was not any better. I understand you don't want full heat for the public but it's Mexican salsa and should taste like it.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
This place just opened right by us so we were excited to try it. Have to say that it did not disappoint. We went on Sunday evening and 6:30. Friendly service. Got our food super fast. Ordered brisket nachos, the Lester taco and chips &queso. Everything was great! Love the salsa bar with 3 choices: red, green and (my fav) jalapeño ranch. Prices were very reasonable too! We will definitely be coming again...and often!

Christina K.

Yelp
Can they package their togo food any worse? Unbelievable that the bottom of the paper bag busted open and there was grease everywhere. It made a mess and the amount of grease will deter me from eating there again.

Dennis S.

Yelp
We saw this place near the Rodeo Goat, which was full, and thought we would try it. Everything was very good. The service was order at the register and wait for delivery. It was fast, friendly and efficient. The tacos were very good as were the quesadillas. Will certainly be back but now we see they put one closer to home in Wylie. Both have great music memorabilia on the walls and ceilings

Jimmy L.

Yelp
It's just Taco Bell at a premium. It's Tex Mex so it's not an authentic taco shop. The sauces are all weirdly sweet with no spice. Mid

Daniel J.

Yelp
My brother lives in Lakewood, and we've eaten at that location dozens of times. I was so happy when I drove by and saw a location a few mins from me in Richardson! The tacos are always incredible and taste so fresh. The staff is always friendly and VERY fast. The prices are all great, especially with the daily specials. This is my go-to spot now!

R M.

Yelp
Definitely a regular here. Love the tacos and all the specials. Price is great. Their queso is the best around and this location far exceeds the Lakewood location. Its cleaner, more efficient, and much better food. Manager Scott makes everyone feel welcome. I would recommend it to anyone.

Lequitta L.

Yelp
The people at Taco Joint were really nice. We hoped for a nice experience but it was not to be. To begin with we placed our orders at the counter ( it is a taco joint) and used a coupon to get a free Dr. J's chips and queso. (Reg $6.19). We ordered the Spicy grilled shrimp taco, and the Grilled fish taco each. We asked that he replace the flour tortillas with corn. Now maybe this was our mistake- but seriously???!!! First the tortillas were served with corn tortillas that were not cooked at all. Not warmed, grilled, heated in in way whatsoever, albeit they did put two on each taco. I suppose to hold together better. You would think they could have easily been thrown on the grill with shrimp or fish - which brings up another problem. Neither the shrimp or the fish appeared or tasted grilled at all. No marks, not browned, blackened, stripes, or anything to suggest they had ever touched any sort or grill. Much less taste like it. They appeared and tasted as if they might be sautéed or boiled. The fish. No marks or sauce. Topped with salad mix - is just that - chunks of salad mix. We did not like or eat either taco. We ate little bits and pieces wit a fork- the tortillas were inedible. The fillings just gross when added to it. Now to the chips and queso. It is the only thing we ate some of. We left hungry. The chips seemed straight out of a bag. Not a good brand at that. The queso was good. We did like the queso. I might have loved it if everything else wasn't so bad The atmosphere well cafeteria style seating. Light and bright with lots of windows. The music was a little loud for my taste but not too bad. My husband and I had tried their breakfast a few months back. I wasn't impressed but neglected to write a review. It was just a taco joint I would have given 3 stars then. Now, I won't be back. Lesson learned. Yuck

Candy O.

Yelp
Fun friendly environment and food was. Extra spicy salsa available when you special request it.

Kat F.

Yelp
We were hungering for brisket breakfast tocos and queso and you delivered! And the churros were warm and delightful! Thanks, every thing was so good!

Brian M.

Yelp
Saturday we ordered for pickup 2 TACO COMBO, THE "BIG B", and a VEGGIE BURRO. The food was ready upon arrival. Customer service was good. All food items tasted bland. We discovered a human hair lodged in the middle of "THE "BIG B" burrito. We definitely have had much better quality of Tex Mex food at other local establishments.

James W.

Yelp
Great new taco place. The brisket tacos is excellent!! Chips, Guacamole, and Queso very good.. Jim Murphy Tx..

Terri L.

Yelp
Hands down the best chips!!! Light, crispy and perfect texture! The creamy jalapeño salsa with chips is a meal!!! The service was quick, restaurant was clean and cool!!! It's been too hot to eat outside or inside. I had talk frozen margarita that could have used a little more tequila but with frozen drinks it's a toss up... I ordered the The Hangover it was more than I could eat in one sitting. I should've have asked for corn tortillas... its served with flour tortillas. I'll be back!!!

William R.

Yelp
Was waiting for the Plano Pkwy location to finally open and we went today for lunch. Has an order at the counter vibe kind of like Torchy's Taco's.... I actually wish it was a Torchy's. The food was ok... call it a notch or two over Taco Cabana or Taco Bueno, about the same as Fuzzy's. The queso was ok, not as good as Torchy's. Wifey got a gigantic breakfast burrito (ten bucks!) I got brisket tacos. Everything was fine... but not exceptional. $30+ for fast food taco lunch was a little shocking though. The inside layout is a train wreck. Tables right in the main area by the counter where you stand in line to order... so you're standing in line next to people eating. Same with the drink / salsa station, right next to tables. They need to work on the flow a little bit, maybe move some of the tables away from these areas. I can only imagine the chaos when they are full tilt busy like lunch or dinner. Fuzzy's and Torchy's (at least the ones near us) don't have this problem, as the line to the order counter is separated from the eating area. Hopefully when it gets cooler they can put more seating outside, there is a huge patio area but only a couple benches. Staff was nice and polite. I will go back and give it another shot, but I'll probably get it to go.

Eric T.

Yelp
Plano just added to the foodie fam. I finally got a chance to try the taco joint on Plano parkway I expect the Orangetheory next door to start suing because there will be an absolute zero gain once you leave fitness to go fill back up on tacos these guys just do good tacos I started off with crispy sirloin pack and for me they're pretty good rival to Taco casa which are my favorite crispy tacos also they're fajita tacos are also really. They have a basic salsa bar with green and red which is really all you need but stay for the jalapeno ranch it rivals Chuy's. When I go next I'm going to try the fish tacos and the nachos I don't even like nachos but they look so good get in on the ground floor this is when you definitely don't want to miss

Matthew M.

Yelp
The service and food portions were terrible. The spicy fried chicken was mostly lettuce. There was barely a sliver of chicken in it. It was so small, it wasn't long enough to stretch across half the tortilla. The lady behind the counter calling names can't pronounce names clearly. She called for Marcel, not Matthew. When she figured out it was me, the food was cold. Three hours later, I was having severe intestinal distress from the food. I will never eat here again.

Yvette R.

Yelp
i love this place, it is tasty and the service is friendly and quick. The Taco Joint beats all the other chains in the area. The food is fresh!!!!

Lane C.

Yelp
Wanted to eat there but they won't sell you enchiladas without it coming with a drink. I wanted to order a margarita, didn't need another drink. "Nope, enchiladas only come with a drink." Went to Rodeo Goat next door and got a margarita with my burger. Silly rules.

David T.

Yelp
Very, very good! I had the Monday Special, Shrimp Quesadilla. They brought the HEAT with perfectly cooked and clean shrimp, sauteed with tiny chopped onion and spices, so delicious! Served with guac and sour cream, and a drink. Cool atmosphere and fun music, and the friendliest staff. Three kinds of salsa. Definitely going back!

Soham R.

Yelp
Tried the chicken fajita taco and The Evan (vegetarian) taco - both were kinda average

Ryan F.

Yelp
I got a brisket taco combo with chips and salsa. Positives: The rice and beans were really good, they tasted fresh and well seasoned. The red salsa itself was very good as well. The inside of the restaurant was clean and the servers were polite. Negatives: It's insultingly obvious new chips are mixed with the old chips. Some chips were so stale they were chewy. The brisket tacos were mediocre. Their corn tortillas weren't softened at all and tasted old like they came straight off a grocery store shelf. They also had a powdery texture and fell apart as I ate it. Pretty dreadful. The brisket was dry, yet watery and *too* evenly colored to be fresh. It seemed like it was frozen and boiled in a bag. For about $16 dollars, I feel like I got scammed into buying high school cafeteria food.

John B.

Yelp
Not even a mediocre taco shop. Food was honestly terrible fish taco was unedable and the brisket taco was just that, dry brisket on a corn tortilla and that was it.
