Whew, was this place worth it and super delicious. But what can I say when the food can speak for itself? Eddie and I were driving up and down the streets of uptown to find something to satiate our ever growing hunger since we've been working out. Conveniently, as we were driving along the never ending streets of Dallas we see this little shop tucked in a corner on a strip next to a parking garage. This did pique our curiosity and hence we stepped into this taco stand of flavor.
As you enter this restaurant you'll see them cooking their Al Pastor on a spick that's rotating and rendering the fat with chunks of pineapple. The smell of fresh salsa reminds me of the neighborhoods back in Houston from where I called home for the past ten years, and the sound of meats, veggies and cheese being grilled bring music to my ears and eyes. The menu isn't massive compared to some shops but that's because the flavor are solid and need nothing but your taste buds to tell you what adventure you're going to be getting into. Greeted by presumably the owner, I asked what to get and his response? The Guac. Guac? Really? Something my Abuela back in Oklahoma could never not doctor up because everything will always need something? Okay, I'll take his word for it. The beau and I then opted for the Mar Y Terra fries, burrito, and some tacos for a pretty shiny penny. But when has that ever stopped me from enjoying my life to the fullest with an abundance amount of food? Jesus, not gay jesus or what my friends call Eddie, but holy smokes. The proportions of food was massive. This place may be slightly more expensive for a taco stand but they more than make it up for all of the food that's jam packed in their mastered craft. But onto the review.
The Fries were truly delicious nuggets of flavor bombs. The way that the cheeses and shrimp were coated in each other's juices enhanced the notes of the angus steak strips. The fries were meant to be eaten first, but how could we? The tortillas were going to be soggy! But if we didn't alternate the fries were going to do the same so we had to alternate bites between everything. But what? The fries were still crispy and held its texture? Oooooof as in a good ooooof. Immaculate and incredible. Thank you. It was great! My only flaw for the fries were the nacho cheese, but that's just a preference and I didn't care for it. Eddie did so that as moot for me.
The burrito did NOT skimp on the protein. I am drooling with how incredible the veggies absorbed the notes of shrimp and beef. Did I opt for cheese? Cheesus, yes...YES i did. So you better do the same for that extra $1! Ooey gooey cheese that crisped up from the sides that they grilled the burrito E-LE-VAT-ED this burrito into some cosmic neato burrito. Is anyone else getting hungry? Or am I just making myself hungry again...
Elote? Eddie loved it. The butter, cheese, and mayo had always been his goto as tradition. But I sprinkled Taijin on mine because who doesn't like spice? Elote can be simple to mess up but this was almost perfect. I only made it perfect with the taijin.
Guac... Boy was he right. This is probably the best guac I've had in DFW hands down and I will stand on this hill to the day that I die. I always have to ask for extra limes, salt, and cilantro because I love them a certain way. Did I need any of it? As to quote a Frozen song, " For the first time in forever". . . I did not. They freshly make it and they added enough lime juice to crave the salt that's carefully mashed into this which then needs more acid from the tomatoes. Incredible. Splendid. Sensational.
TLDR: Two hungry gym going Boyfriends find a taco stand in DFW, loved it, devoured everything, and have gone back multiple times. Thanks for coming to my Raj talk.
