The Talbot Country House Hotel & Inn

We have stayed several times previously at The Talbot, although on this occasion we returned for lunch only. The food was first class, as you'd expect given the hotels high standards, and the service was without fault. All in all we really enjoyed our return visit and hope to be back soon. For anyone contemplating a visit, I can assure you, you will not be disappointed. Its a lovely, lovely hotel in a great location.

My husband and I stayed here for four nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. When we arrived we had been upgraded which was a lovely surprise and we had a four poster bed room. Water provided, tea and coffee provided, n espresso machine also. Toiletries in the bathroom which was huge and spotlessly clean as was the room. Towels were soft and fluffy and large which is always a bonus. |Our only comment on the room was that a safe would have been good to leave laptops etc in. The hotel is secure enough but this extra would have given us peace of mind when out and about for the day.|Every member of staff was extremely polite and pleasant especially the bar staff. Dinner was just delicious with lots of options and again, any dietary requirements can be catered for. Breakfast was excellent with cereals, yoghurts, fruit, juices, pastries and a good range of cooked options. |We can’t wait to come back again next year as still many places we would like to visit and this is a perfect place to stay.

What a lovely place to stay.. all the staff were super friendly and well trained in service. Coco🐶 was beautifully greeted and I love the wipes on the front porch for paws and treats and the welcome pack she received. Our room was beautiful so a big thankyou and we will be back. Dinner was delicious too.

Classic very charming hotel with great service, yes, the furniture is authentic a little bit aged, but it doesn’t have a negative impact on the stay at all contrary it’s quite charming.

Stopped for Sunday lunch. Gorgeous roast and we were served by Hannah who was very attentive. She gave us some information about other Hotels and locations too. Would definitely recommend the food and we will look to try a stay over in one of the Hotels.

This review is for the restaurant only - we did not have an overnight stay. It was the first time at The Talbot, we were meeting friends for a lunchtime catchup. Quaint, atmospheric, and quality service were the immediate thoughts. We were greeted formally and shown to our table then a very friendly, breezy waiter came in - just a joy. The food that followed was very good and everything after that was superb. We were even helped to use the voucher. This is going to be our restaurant of choice in the future. Thank you for such an enjoyable visit!

Located in a commanding position in Malton this atmospheric building has much to offer. Staff were attentive and the food satisfying. This place maintains and exceeds others in the chain of hotels. Just for us though the parking was a little difficult . My wife is not very mobile the spaces adjacent to the front door all were taken so had to park in spaces away and up the hill in the grounds. I suppose you can’t have the great views a hill gloved without some effort negotiating a slope.

We had lunch in the bar at The Talbot, Malton to celebrate a birthday. We had been in a few times for drinks, which were always examplary so we had higher expectations that the food would be excellent as well. We we not disappointed. The dining room is charming, painted a strong blue and feels old, but well maintained and comfortable, like a well aged wine. We had roast sea bass and a plate of calf's liver from the lunch menu. Perfectly cooked, wonderful flavour and just the right size to leave one satisfied but not stuffed. Ben, who looked after us, was very friendly and paid just the right level of attention. He really elevated the experience with his service. A lovely experience.

This is my favorite hotel in Malton! It just went through an extensive renovation which really modernized the place throughout. What I love about this hotel is that no two rooms are the same. Each one has its own distinctive charm & character. For this particular visit, I was lucky enough to get Room 9 down at the end of the property that overlooks one of the main traffic arteries into the heart of Malton. That said, this hotel is a series of interconnected buildings that are at least a few centuries old! No elevator (lift) here; you're gonna have to navigate some stairs. But it's all part of the beauty of this place. The restaurant here showcases the fact that Malton is The Foodie Capital of Yorkshire. All the ingredients are locally-sourced and super-fresh. Definitely try the English Breakfast! No wonder Charles Dickens would come to Malton to escape London! And it's highly possible he stayed here, as Chancery Lane is literally across the street and features the office used as the model for Ebeneezer Scrooge. Cool history! Also, back in the day, the Onassis family would rent out the entire hotel on their visits to acquire Thoroughbreds, so there's a very good chance Jackie stayed here, too!

This a beautiful hotel with a delightful restaurant set in the North Yorkshire village of Malton. A luxury break - delightful rooms and special food.
