"A 17th-century coaching inn in the North Yorkshire market town of Malton — a destination particularly well known for its culinary scene — is now a classic-meets-modern, boutique-inspired 26-room hotel. The Talbot doesn’t stray too far from its historical roots, but has updated its interiors with bold, bright colors and one-off vintage pieces, and updated its comforts with modern necessities like Nespresso machines and Roberts radios. Meanwhile the Talbot’s restaurant and bar keep the visuals subtle, the better to focus on what’s on the plate and in the glass — local beers and spirits feature prominently." - Tablet Hotels

We throughly enjoyed our stay at this fabulous hotel. We loved the beautifully stylish county house interiors: the bar was warm and welcoming and how delightful it was to relax in the comfortable lounge beside a roaring log fire: the perfect refuge from the blustery, stormy weather outside. Our room was comfortable, welcoming and spotlessly clean. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast and would like to commend the professional, cheerful staff who clearly take great pride in the hotel. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

My husband and I stayed here for four nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. When we arrived we had been upgraded which was a lovely surprise and we had a four poster bed room. Water provided, tea and coffee provided, n espresso machine also. Toiletries in the bathroom which was huge and spotlessly clean as was the room. Towels were soft and fluffy and large which is always a bonus. |Our only comment on the room was that a safe would have been good to leave laptops etc in. The hotel is secure enough but this extra would have given us peace of mind when out and about for the day.|Every member of staff was extremely polite and pleasant especially the bar staff. Dinner was just delicious with lots of options and again, any dietary requirements can be catered for. Breakfast was excellent with cereals, yoghurts, fruit, juices, pastries and a good range of cooked options. |We can’t wait to come back again next year as still many places we would like to visit and this is a perfect place to stay.

Stay was very good. The hotel staff are really lovely and made us, and our dog, feel very welcome. The room was very comfortable and quiet, over looking the garden. The evening dinner was excellent, imaginative, very nicely presented and great flavours. Well done Chef.

Exceptional.|This is such a beautiful, cosy hotel with a classic, country house style. The roaring log fires in the lounge and bar areas made the Talbot rhe perfect escape from Storm Claudia raging outside. The staff were professional and welcoming and obviously take great pride in the hotel. Breakfast in the pretty dining room was delicious. We throughly enjoyed our stay.

We booked the Talbot, in which we last stayed possibly 15 years ago, as we wanted to escape fireworks with the dog and our usual place was full so we only booked the morning of our arrival after calling to check they weren’t doing a firework display. |Before checking in, we wondered around Malton, eating lunch and buying cheese on the market which is fabulous. |We checked in via the email link sent on booking, so collected the key and went to our room which was absolutely lovely. Massive bed, great shower and best of all, quiet…|We went down to the bar where you can take dogs, loads of wet noses therein, and had some great ale and wine before going to eat. The menu is lovely, we opted for the gnocchi and braised cheek as mains and i had the potted pork with black pudding and crumpet as a starter. Fabulous flavours. |The breakfast that morning was excellent. I’m a fellow of the English Breakfast Society and would happily score this an 8.5/10|Points lost for only half a roundel of black pudding, unnecessary green garnish and the beans being in a pot but the flavours were fab. |We will 100% be back

My wife and I stayed for 5 day's while visiting Yorkshire. The location is central to many places to see. We enjoyed a beautiful room with a canopy bed , sitting area and a beautiful view of the fields to the river. The bathroom was amazing with a claw bathtub for my wife and a great full shower. The sheets and linens were great quality and plenty of room amenities to go along. The food was excellent, the service amazing and the staff were so kind we didn't want to leave. The Sunday roast dinner did not disappoint. Superb. Thank you also for providing a laundry service, much needed on extended holidays. We look forward to staying there again in the future and thank everyone who made our stay memorable.

We chose this Hotels restaurant for our daughters birthday meal celebration as its the most prestigious in our area and wanted something special, we visited on Sunday 29th and weren’t disappointed the food was fantastic we all ate the beef sirloin which literally melted in your mouth the veg was also top notch. We were met on arrival by Martin the General Manager a very pleasant fellow who clearly runs a professional outfit the service was exceptional and the ambiance in the dining room was class, we will definitely return thankyou and your team so much for making our daughters 16th a memorable one.|The Skelton family

Yelp
This is my favorite hotel in Malton! It just went through an extensive renovation which really modernized the place throughout. What I love about this hotel is that no two rooms are the same. Each one has its own distinctive charm & character. For this particular visit, I was lucky enough to get Room 9 down at the end of the property that overlooks one of the main traffic arteries into the heart of Malton. That said, this hotel is a series of interconnected buildings that are at least a few centuries old! No elevator (lift) here; you're gonna have to navigate some stairs. But it's all part of the beauty of this place. The restaurant here showcases the fact that Malton is The Foodie Capital of Yorkshire. All the ingredients are locally-sourced and super-fresh. Definitely try the English Breakfast! No wonder Charles Dickens would come to Malton to escape London! And it's highly possible he stayed here, as Chancery Lane is literally across the street and features the office used as the model for Ebeneezer Scrooge. Cool history! Also, back in the day, the Onassis family would rent out the entire hotel on their visits to acquire Thoroughbreds, so there's a very good chance Jackie stayed here, too!
