"Like Sullivan’s Tap, Theatre District dive bar the Tam closed a few years back but came back to life, mostly the same, under new ownership — a group of investors going by the name Greater Boston Bar Co. has been reviving a bunch of local bars — and they’re not fixing what isn’t broken. The Tam is just the right combination of no-frills and cheap beer that you’d expect from a proper dive, and a great stop to while away an hour before a comedy show or concert on Theater Row." - Nathan Tavares, Tanya Edwards

"Almost seeming out of place amongst all of the bright lights of the Theatre District, this bar — founded “sometime during the 1940s” — seems to define the term "hole in the wall," and you'd be hard-pressed to find a Bostonian who doesn't have at least one memory here (or lack thereof...) Don't come hungry though; beer, cocktails, and attitude are the only things on the menu." - Erika Adams, Katie Chudy

Feels like the perfect blend of local happy hour and transient/tourist patrons. Quick service and good pours and good prices (for a black velvet or snake bite depending on who you ask Guinness/cider). Good smiles(and funny looks at my drink choice) Great stop off for after dinner drink Bit loud, but to be expected with the space.

Went here a while back and had a great time. The bartender was awesome and very welcoming. Who says Bostonians aren't hospitable? This is my favorite bar in Boston.

Stopped in for a quick beer before a meeting at The Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts. The bar is the same as I remember from 40 plus years ago. Iconic is the best description. Great service, cheap and cold beer. I wish I could have stayed. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Exactly what you want it to be- easy, straightforward bar for a casual drink and no efforts to be anything but what it is. Took a friend from Australia and it was one of his favorite places we went.

Service here is amazing. Drinks are very reasonably priced compared to other spots in the area. It's definitely a place to stop by to have a drink before or after a show. Also, they do take cards

Loved the vibe here. It’s REAL and A BAR with simple flavor choices. Not overwhelming to the eye Bartender Lynn and I believe Marcy? Both great. Knew when it was time for another round and knew how to move around eachother well. Always value that being a bartender myself. Good energy behind the bar shows to the customer. These woman ran a sudden left field crowd damn near perfect while still maintaining composure and Lynn’s genuine smile while it’s all happening. Loved it!

Great bar , call ever time we visit Boston, (might change from now on though) on our last visit was very let down, bearing in mind we (2 of us) called in of a Sunday evening (8.30pm) having just got here , we were stopped inside the door by an African American security guard who insisted the we needed a United States passport to gain entry………so…….Irish bar in Boston….we being Irish, ….and now you need a United States passport to gain entry, Should be renamed uncles Sam’s all American bar if that’s the case. Disappointed. Long time customer too and regularly meet our friends here when we visit
