The Tap Room is where I discovered I don't really like Wagyu beef.
Not usually one to sit outside, for some reason, I was tempted to probably since it wasn't raining (for once this year) and it was a beautiful view. Also, we weren't exposed to a busy street or a lot of people, so I figured might as well take advantage. Most of the seating was taken up by one or two people; I stayed to the far end but had no choice but to face the rest of the patio (I'm usually the anti-social one who will face away but did not have that option here). As expected these days, everyone was on their phones anyway.
Since I was too late for lunch at The Terrace, that is how I ended up over at The Tap Room. Hungrier than I should have been, I ordered fries (specifically, Parmesan dusted) and the Wagyu sliders. The service was initially very good. I specified how I wanted the beef prepared, and one of the first things she did after I had my order was ask if it was done correctly. Unfortunately it was not and as much as I hate sending food back, I was not about to waste $17 either. I felt bad but she said she was the same way when it comes to meat, and in the meantime, I killed a large majority of the fries (portion for these was huge). After about 15 minutes, the sliders were back, and they were definitely better.
Looking around though, the place is somewhat dated. Faint stains on the upholstery (although I admit we ARE outside with various food and drink) but it's something one can't help but notice. Although she arrived after I was already there, another guests sitting down my way had leftovers neglecting to be picked up for the duration of my time there. That area was not cleaned up even by the time I was vacating. Server checked in a couple times after, forgot my requested water refill but once reminded was right on it. Nearing 5p, I guess staff changed where I had my check but sat a good 10 minutes or so where no one bothered to come back. I had to go inside at the bar-where she now was-and get it taken care of there.
It was becoming busier as it was getting later, so I knew it was time for me to get the heck out. Although this wasn't the best time, I did enjoy strolling the property, and would be willing to try The Terrace on my next visit out here. One thing it does have going for it is that you feel removed from the typical Los Angeles scene here, and I mean that in a good way.
