Capitol Hill’s New Barbecue Spot Keeps Selling Out of Meat | Eater Seattle

"Occupying the former Old Stove Brewing spot, The Tap Room at Pike Place hosts 16 craft beers on draft and serves a small menu of sandwiches and appetizers, with a kids’ menu that explicitly welcomes families." - Megan Hill

What this place really needs improvement on is the employees,I walked in this place expecting it to be somewhat nice and welcoming for all people since they have pride flags, after I ordered the #13 I picked up some peanuts from a cup because where I'm from peanuts are usually customary they're usually for everyone at the bar, after I walked away some big Jack crawling up the beanstalk lookin dude yelled and asked "hey why did you take his peanuts?!" Again I understand I'm somewhere else but I really did not know that and i apologized to him and the other man and paid 6 dollars for some little cup with more peanuts and some lady also decided to make it her business and ask what I did he then proceeds to call me she and my voice is primarily deepish and I wear a binder and packer and I guess none of that clicked with beanstalk man and I introduced myself to the man I had accidentally taken peanuts from, he didn't have to be rude about it he could've simply said hey excuse me that was his, he didn't need to piss his pants over it I did ask a pike market person about the bar and she said it's new,she left a much better taste in my mouth about pike market, taproom maybe you shouldn't hire DXL's cousin. Also there was no refund offered to me or sent back to my card after I put the beer back down on the counter and told him I didn't want it anymore I had calmly put the glass down and I did not drink a SIP.

Nice enough place with a good beer selection, but they don’t cater much to anything that’s not beer. I ended up getting a cider, which was delicious, but I just do wish that they had more than just one cider available to order. Also, the price was quite high, we ended up paying $23 for 2 ciders, which was quite a bit more than I expected. So just removing 1 star for the lack of cider choice, and 1 star for how expensive it was. On the plus side, you can bring in other food from downstairs to eat here too, as long as you order a drink here.

WORST SERVICE EVER I went to the taproom to hangout with friends, my mom, and wife. We had ordered some drinks and snacks, and in the midst of that, I had to use the bathroom. I asked the server or bartender if we were allowed to use it and he said yes. So I waited in line until it was my turn to go. I had been traveling all day and it all hit me at once. I wasn’t even in the bathroom for 10 mins before I hear banging on the door saying I need to hurry up. I explain that I’m using the bathroom (and if you know how travel stomach can be, you understand). He comes back banging on the doors and says I need to wrap it up or they’re calling security. Now this man was so loud that everyone in the restaurant could hear him yelling at me through the door. So once I finished up, I walked out of the bathroom and immediately asked “who was banging on the door because I want to know who would be that rude”. None of the workers responded. I asked again because I was upset that I had been at the restaurant with my family, they saw us eating and drinking, I asked the worker if I could use the bathroom, and he acts as if I was doing something illegal by using the one bathroom they had. Extremely rude and can’t even admit to a person’s face that they were rude about a situation. I didn’t get the man’s name but he was wearing a floral button up and maybe 6’2.

This place is a great place to come. They have local top notch brews. Sean is so kind and nice.

Gluten free lavender honey cider was amazing! The owner was inviting and cared about his service! Absolutely recommend!!! My friend tried a couple of the regular options and loved them! The bathroom was clean and welcomed all. The place was clean and hosted fresh flowers each week!

We went to Seattle for a concert and my husband saw their "build your own flight" deal. We figured we would stop in so he could try it and I could try their pretzel. We also ordered the wings. It was so disappointing. Not only did it take a really long time to get our food, but the pretzel was hard as a rock and inedible. To clarify, we did TRY to eat the pretzel, but it really wasn't possible. For the flight, the bartender who poured it stuck his finger in one of the cups while pouring and... had a bit of a hygiene issue. I usually try to avoid calling this kind of stuff out, but it was bad enough that my husband could smell the sweat on the cup and it ruined the cider for him. The wings were honey garlic and were far too spicy for the flavor than we were expecting. It was altogether a bad experience and I would not recommend going here.

We were on our way to meet friends in the restaurant next door and were 30 mins early. The place looked inviting - so we thought we'd have a coffee and sit and watch the passing the customers. The one star (out of five) I give is for the ambiance, products and particularly service do not deserve any (while serving me, my server was entirely chatting with a friend). I would not go again.

Google
Awesome place. Everyone here is very friendly. I got some chowder from pike place chowder and brought it in here to drink and eat the chowder. They do not mind at all, a bunch of people were enjoying their chowder and drinking an awesome beer. Chill vibe, they are also children and pet friendly so bring the babies and bring the pups!

Yelp
We were visiting the city and walking a lot, so a nice stop at this brewery was enjoyable. Late night seems to close most of f the area but we were grateful that this place was open. Beers were enjoyable but I typically like a much stronger beer but these were the best beers we had while in town. Most places don't offer too many porters or stouts. The bathroom was also appreciated. I was especially pleased when the employee gave me a free sticker when I asked. It's on my car already!

Yelp
Very chilled taproom with a good spread of beer, plus some seltzer and sour options. Quick walk up and order at the front then seat yourself. Came on a Tuesday around 2pm. Stopped in here when it started to pour for a few mins to kill time. Good vibes! About $10 a drink. Bar food options. Tried the ginger lime lemongrass seltzer. Sour and bitter in the best way

Yelp
Im not a real beer connoisseur. But my 93 year old father loves beer. Especially hoppy beer. The hoppier, the better. We have a history with the Market. My father loved to take us here, as youngsters, to get fresh bread and pastrami. We would make sandwiches out of the bread and pastrami. lovely sandwiches. I'm sure if this beer was available, my father would have combined it with the sandwich. He loves the beer here. An incredible arrary of hoppy beer choices. Friendly bar service, just note they are often overwhelmed by their popularity. A great selection of beers. My father was very happy with the wide selection. Perusing the Market can be tiring. This is a great place to sit down and relax with your choice of specialty beer. The snacks they offer are good too. You can spent a relaxing time, with great beers and snacks. For my father, this is the best way to end a Market visit. Good beer, great service and ambience.

Yelp
It definitely could have been way better! The bartender was super sour. Probably more sour than the sour on the menu. We won't be back. We stood at the bar to order, and he made us go to the back. He was rude and condescending. As he prepared to close, he yelled "last call", then just started closing things down. Simply the worst customer service we've experienced in Seattle. Spend your well earned money elsewhere. Cheers !
google avatar

Natasha B.

Yelp
Nice space and I'm sure the beer is fine. This place left a bad taste in my mouth because the bartender was so ornery and unfriendly. We had a huge group, one of the few at the place, and he was made us feel so unwelcome, we would've spent so much more money if he was kinder.

Ryan M.

Yelp
The food is not good. Really overpriced for gas station quality food. I couldn't believe the pizza was $16, there's much better frozen pizza for $5.

Yelp
Came here during a trip to Seattle. I tried 4 different beers as part of a flight and enjoyed them overall. However, my main gripe is the food. Although the taproom opens at 11am, the kitchen does not open til 12:30pm. I asked the bartender to see the menu, but he said he would give me one when the kitchen opened. I ordered a pretzel as soon as it did, but it then took him 15min to warm up a previously frozen pretzel. That pretzeled was packaged as if it was made in a factory and not in-house or even by a local baker. I was really disappointed with it.

Yelp
Stopped for a morning beer to take the edge off. The market is CRAZY with people, coming into the Tap Room was a nice reprieve. We had a few good beers the only one I can remember was the tangerine one that really hit the spot!

Elizabeth V.

Yelp
This has to be one of the priciest tap rooms I have ever been to, and by no means worth the price. We like to try different beers when we go to different cities so we tried 4 samples which came out to $30. These were 2oz pours. I would steer clear of this place and go to a real brewery !

Yelp
Nice taproom at the market. Decent selection of beers. After a day of touring convenient locale and save to have a brew.

Yelp
Nice setup, good beer, friendly people. Burgers were a little over the top in terms of size but we had fun.

Yelp
We stopped in one night walking by after seeing a jazz trio at this quant upscale place around the corner. Up to that point it was a nice evening with my friend, who was visiting from abroad. We decided to reminisce over a few more drinks somewhere. As we walked in, my friend noted to me that she needed to use the restroom. So as we sat down at a table I pointed her over to where it was. As she walked over towards the restroom door, though, she began to be loudly berated by the person behind the bar for not being "a customer". My friend doesn't speak English, so she became very confused. When I tried to sheepishly intervene on her behalf, the man became even more upset and started yelling and screaming, and waving his hand way up in the air for us to get out and find another bar. Of course the entire bar was frozen in place staring at us, and we shuffled out in shock trying not to make even more of a scene. I certainly didn't want to embarrass my friend even more by causing a bigger argument with the man. She was confused and mortified as I explained we were getting kicked out, with everyone still gawking at us. We were both very confused, considering we were well dressed and had seated ourselves at a table waiting for service - having been there less than 90 seconds - not to mention we were very polite the entire time we were being yelled at, by someone practically frothing at the mouth. It definitely seemed very extreme and odd to be thrown out for no apparent reason. Only now having come here and read some of the other reviews (here and on Google) have I realized perhaps there is a pattern of xenophobic and maybe it could even be called racist behavior by the owner and/or staff. Obviously I can't say for certain, who can know the mind of an individual. But we definitely felt singled out and were publicly humiliated for apparently not speaking English well enough or not being to the person's liking somehow that isn't otherwise easily apparent (perhaps it was simply the violet hue of my friend's blouse that was so upsetting - but I don't imagine so). At any rate, it seems like this kind of outburst isn't the first towards someone with perhaps a more exotic look and a foreign accent according to the reviews. It was honestly not something that came to mind at first because most people here are genuinely accepting and so open-hearted. Whatever the reason was for the spectacle he put on, it doesn't ultimately matter. No one would appreciate being dealt with like that for any reason that didn't explicitly call for it. We definitely won't be coming back to this place. One public humiliation is more than enough.

Yelp
Great selection of beers with good variety! They have ciders, blonde ales, and more. I'm a big fan of their Pineapple Gose. This place is the perfect spot if you'd like to get away from the business around downtown and the market area. They have open seating and allow you to bring food in.
google avatar

Cecille L.

Yelp
It was alright. Nothing too spectacular. Service was good and they had a decent amount to choose from. Marked it off my bucket list.

Yelp
Really chill small spot with good beer on tap, would definitely recommend good spot to bar hop in the area

Yelp
Had a nice experience here after visiting the Pike Place Market. They have around 20 beers with limited Wine and Cider. Our server "Daryell" sorry on the spelling was awesome. He really knows his beers and was very attentive considering he was working mostly by himself. A little pricey on the beer but it's a tourist spot :) they have outdoor seating and windows that open the entire bar for fresh air. Give it a try.
google avatar

Lauren T.

Yelp
Cool little spot that is on the outside of the market. There is indoor and outdoor seating. On nice days, they open the windows and let the air in. There is not that many tables though. It was completely empty when we were in there. I had the sour beer and it was okay! Nothing super special but if you're looking for a spot to hang and relax after shopping, you've come to the right place.

Yelp
My favorite taphouse in Seattle. Friendly service, great beers, convenient from Pike Market. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I was happy to see this place. They had such a great selection of beer. The employees were nice and helpful when asked about items. I ordered 2 of their wheat beers and and both were tasty. Lunch: My husband and I split the Taproom Shrimp and Andouille Gumbo and King Tide Seafood Boil. There Boil was definitely enough to share. The location had clean bathroom and the employees were wiping tables fairly quickly. I will definitely visit again next time I am in town. ........ .. ....... .. .

Yelp
The Taproom at Pike Place is a pleasant pub type bar. The wait staff is friendly It's not too loud and they have a variety of pub type food. You order at the bar, and take a number to your table where your food will be delivered. I didn't have any because I had just eaten at Los Agaves. I sat at the bar and had a flight of beers. You can design your own from a dozen or so rotating taps. The bartender lady was very personable. They don't brew their own beer here, although you will see two large fermenters at one end of the pub. These I'm told were left from the previous tenants, and that it WAS a brewery before the TapRoom moved in. Apparently these things are so big, they just decided t leave them. There is also a little beer can museum on the wall, with old tin type cans and even some ceramic containers. It is interesting to see that there were many many different brands of beers in Washington before prohibition. So, if you're thirsty or just want to try a few beers and see a little Can Museum, stop by The Taproom. BTW, if you enjoyed my review or found it useful funny or cool, please don't hesitate to click the little button to say so, or better yet, go ahead and friend me! I Just moved to the Seattle area last October, and need all the friends I can get. So go ahead, press that button, and never miss a single one of my epic reviews in the Seattle area and beyond. Cheers!

Yelp
We stopped into refresh ourselves and struck up a nice conversation with a guy from Australia sitting alone at a picnic style bench outside on the sidewalk and after having a few beers we shared our business contact info and went our ways but it was memorable the stories we shared were hilarious! They had some really good choices for beers and after sampling several, Judy decided on a Light Pilsner the Hochzeit Pilsner. I grabbed a standby favorite of mine a Fuzztail Hefeweizen. I seem to gravitate to Hefeweizen Style Beers. Our choices were excellent and going back for my 2nd they ran out of the Fuzztail so I sampled their other Hefeweizen they had ready to take it's place - awesome and done pour me that! Didn't do food, just beer and hydration of water backs! Great time over a couple beers!

Yelp
Aside from being overpriced and having a very run-of-the-mill menu, this is a decent tourist spot. Huge interior with tons of kitschy decor. The service I experienced was great. The bathrooms were spotless. I can't say I would bother coming here again, but I was mildly satisfied with the experience. I had the restaurant week burger and beer for $20, which was totally fine. Tasted good, with awesome blue cheese dressing for my side salad. My husband got a pretzel and a sandwich with cider and the bill was almost $75. Seems a little much.
google avatar

Rome L.

Yelp
If you're looking for a nice spot to get a refreshing brew, look no further. The tap room is an excellent place to grab a beer, they have a very good selection to satisfy any pallet. As an added bonus they even have a light bar food menu that includes a bit of everything from chowder to pizza. The open layout and large tables makes the tap room a great place to enjoy with friends.

Yelp
We were the only ones in the bar at 3:30 on a Sunday, so the vibe was lacking a bit. The restaurant in the heart of pike place, so I think it was just bad timing, but I'd a great space. We ordered about 15 beer tasters between the 3 of us and it was $50.00. Most of their beers were great. We also ordered the pork nachos, wings and chili shrimp. The nachos were fine, but they used canned cheese. I'm usually not a fan, but I was hungry so I ate some. The shrimp was not at all what we expected and no one really liked them. We received more of like a soup like dish with whole small potatoes, corn; and clams. The wings were pretty good. We will try it again & maybe not order food.
google avatar

Alejandra D.

Yelp
This place is cute! My husband and I stopped after dinner. I'm not much of a beer drinker but my husband loves beer. Love their outdoor seating. My husband and I chose a flight of 6 beers, $3 each. I'm used to wine tasting flights and the pourings usually aren't a lot, BUT these beer cups were a beefy size! They have little papers where you mark what you want. The manager gave us some recommendations. Good selection.
google avatar

Yelp
Decent place to get a craft beer. Limited choices of ciders and sours. Sat outside and had a pilsner. Pilsner had a good crisp taste to it. Was a perfect place to people watch.

Yelp
Craft beers at Pike Place Market? I'm down! My friend and I came here on a Friday night and were impressed by the tap list at The Taproom. I mean, it's all in the name, really. Located in Pike Place Market, I love that there's a place that offers a ton of local crafts, in addition to out-of-state crafts. As an IPA fan, there was plenty to choose from. They also serve food here, which was exactly what my friend I needed since we drank too much at the bar spent hours before. In addition to (more) beers, my friend had the chicken sandwich while I ordered the salmon chowder, and we shared the chicken wings. You order and pay at the bar and they deliver your food to your table. Beers were solid and the food was better than I expected, not to say I thought there would be crap food here. But usually at a place that specializes in beer, much can't be said for the grub. Yet, The Taproom proves otherwise. Chicken wings had a light sauce on them, that was like a smoky BBQ flavor, and were very juicy. Salmon chowder was comforting and loved the chunks of salmon with. And my friend devoured her chicken sandwich. If you're here and hungry, try the food! I like The Taproom at Pike Place. Location is prime for tourists, even though it doesn't give off a tourist-y vibe. The beer list is solid. And the food is delicious. Make a stop here the next time you're at Pike Place Market.
google avatar

Chris D.

Yelp
Comfortable vibe with open windows and outside views. Male bartender a bit busy with a friend and made me feel as if I was intruding when I approached the bar. I ordered the peach mojito which I enjoyed, while my husband chose the Pilsner, okay. $25 dollars later with no table service, nah. Too many better options.
google avatar

Jess D.

Yelp
They had Nonalcoholic options and the seafood Mac and cheese was delicious! Good atmosphere and location
google avatar

Rob H.

Yelp
This is the worst place I have ever eaten. This is the worst place, period! The food is beyond terrible. Take a look at their "ITALIAN" sub with one slice of salami. Who are these people? What do they eat at home? STAY AWAY FROM HERE!!!!! They won't even give you the manager/owner's number. They know it's crap!!!
google avatar

Chris H.

Yelp
Popped into this place before a comedy show on a Friday night. The craft beer selection was solid. Some really good local-ish options. No table service, you go up and order at the bar. One friendly gal taking orders and pouring beers. Add the comfortable atmosphere, and I would recommend as a place to stop in and grab a beer. I would not recommend it as a place to eat. My wife ordered the pork nachos. They were an abomination. Chips with canned cheese poured over them. I got the BLT, which was fine (if small). No fries, chips only. Order the tots at your own peril.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
This is another one of those places that you stumble upon seeing that they have craft beers. I really dislike the community table aspect. They do have some stand alone tables, which I sat at. Tap selection was okay. Whenever I go to a pub or craft beer tasting place, I always hope their is decent music. And during our visit, my friend and I weren't too fond of their music selection. Now, I do want to come back to give it a legit review, after I try some of their food.
google avatar

Paul P.

Yelp
I didn't go in. I only took this photo that left me with a good feeling about the place. The one girl working behind the counter and the sole customer unwinding after a long day.
google avatar

Geana N.

Yelp
The name of this establishment describes it perfectly. This is a place to take a break from walking around Pike Place Market and have a beer and small bites. The drinks are mostly beer with one cider, one red, and one white wine option, so don't come here if you have a hankering for anything other than beer. The decor is pretty cool with old beer cans in display cases. The name says "Taproom" and that's what it is. We ordered the wings and Uli's beer bites. They were both serviceable; nothing to write home about, but nothing to complain about either. The beer selection was fine (about 18 on the list) and included a long list of IPA's and few alternatives (Czech Pilsner, chocolate stout, etc.). All in all, this wasn't a place we wanted to spend a lot of time at. It's bright, and has a "drink your beer and move on" feel; so that's what we did.
google avatar

Alden C.

Yelp
This is where Old Stove Brewing used to be( they moved to a bigger location). Now the Taproom at Pike Place is more of a taproom that hosts various guest taps. Most of the beer options are local and when I was here I had a solid beer from Washington brewer, Walking Man Brewing. This is a high traffic area involving tourists... and the weekend I was here there were no exceptions to that. There were plenty of them. Yet the staff got people through and their orders filled quickly and with little haste. The Taproom at Pike Place also serves food. I didn't have any so I don't know if their kitchen runs as smoothly as the bar or not or how tasty it may be but if you want a " one stop shop" to get some craft beer and a bite to eat then The Taproom at Pike Place is good place to stop as it isn't a detour at all from the sites that are so hot with sightseeing.
google avatar

Allyson F.

Yelp
This place was pretty decent. We came here for lunch after browsing the market. My boyfriend got an IPA, he said it was just mediocre. I ordered the cider. It was good but too sweet to drink the whole thing- wish there was a dry cider on tap! They did have plenty of beer options and you can do a beer flight! Next time we will try that. We did try the salmon chowder and that was really yummy- probably our favorite part of our experience here. Super tasty especially on a cold Seattle day. The vibes here were chill, laid back, food for groups, friend gatherings and even families. Great space near pike place market. Would come back if in the area!
google avatar

Jen H.

Yelp
Good beer selection! Lot of benches for larger groups. If you need a place to eat your chowder after picking up at Pike Place Chowder, bring it here! They allow you to eat it here as long as you order beer. Great tip from an employee at Pike Place Chowder. Perfect place to chill after walking around awhile. They have wide open windows when the weather is nice. Located right on 1st Ave. Makes for great people watching.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Very chill vibes in this place. Loved the rustic feel. A lot of interesting options and the best part is they let you taste test anyone you want FOR FREE! Only disappointing part is they only have One cider beer, I would have liked it more if they had a few more options. The bartenders really know their product and knew how to sell it. Very nice serves. Would love to come back and try the food. ALSO, great location. Right on the strip next to the market.
google avatar

Ellen Y.

Yelp
We wandered by on the way back to the hotel, and stopped in. It seemed like it was a new place for them - all the furnishings looked new. The man at the bar was super nice. I asked him for a recommendation and he offered me 3 tastings. I ended up not liking any of them (my problem, not theirs), and he gave me another cider to try. I ended up getting water, but i really appreciated his hospitality. A few TVs, long picnic table seating. Great for larger groups!
google avatar

Donna B.

Yelp
These are the best hot wings I have ever had!!! they are very meaty and with the right amount of heat.... they fill you up even though they are considered an appetizer. If you like hot wings this is the place to go.... Better than the ones I had in Tennessee!!
google avatar

Allison L.

Yelp
Cool place in a good location, but food and service was a joke. Paid $9 for what the menu called "Totchos", which we're clearly microwaved tator tots and some nasty cheese out of a bag. Not to mention it took the server 30 minutes to bring these out to us. When she brought them out I also asked for another round of drinks, which she denied and said I had to walk up to the bar in order to get a drink. It's disappointing that this place wasn't better, I would have recommended it solely based on location and the vibe inside, but I'd never eat here again. We left hungry and dissatisfied. I will say the beer was good.
google avatar

Picklicious P.

Yelp
We went in on their 3rd day back open. It was a welcome random stop. Great cider and IPA. The manager was very nice and answered all of our questions.
google avatar

Jason D.

Yelp
Some coworkers and I stopped here after walking around Pike's Place. We just wanted a few drinks before meeting others for dinner, so we opted for a few flights only, no food. Seattle is a really creative place for beer, and this place demonstrates it clearly. The bartender was knowledgeable about the brews offered and was patient while we filled out our cards. The black currant cider was amazing--this was surprisingly at the top for me. I don't normally go for ciders but wanted to give it a shot. Aside from that, the Streaker Citra is another one I'd highly recommend. I hope to be able to come back next time I'm in town to try more!
google avatar

Leina K.

Yelp
Stopped by here while walking along 1st. They're connected to the brewery downstairs and recently exclusively turned into a taproom. I thought it was weird they only had 2 reviews... Tried a few tasters to get a good variety of beers and ciders. Service was friendly and drinks were great. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Service was quick and friendly so the 2 star rating is based on food alone- My bf and came here for a quick bite, after visiting Pike Place. We liked that there was plenty of seating available and a good beer selection. I ordered the peel and eat shrimp (basically shrimp cocktail) and a side of clam chowder and my bf ordered the bbq brisket sandwich. The shrimp looked dirty and not deveined. I know its not harmful to eat it but it made it look REALLY UNAPPETIZING to see in there. The clam chowder had a pink hue to it, not sure why. It wasn't horrible but not the best I've had either. Not as thick or creamy as I'm used to clam chowder being. My boyfriend compared his bbq brisket sandwich to an overpriced Carls Jr. Western Bacon cheesburger.

Yelp
Nice spot up the block from Pike Place Market with a good beer selection to grab a drink. Fairly priced. Communal seating inside and tables outside.

Yelp
If you like drinking local The Taproom is your kind of place. Open-air and perfect for winding down a Wednesday. Plenty of local selections as well as late day deals on 16 oz cans. If you want to take some home, they will gladly fill a Crowler for you.

Yelp
Food menu looked Weak.. so we opted out of that.. But not really expecting a taproom to have a diverse menu.. have to say..... the beers are D@mn Great! Had the double ipa..hoptoligst .. smooth and clean(9.0)... and the hazy rage has a unique flavor.. not to much bite with just a little bark(6.2)..A trip worth making and not too crowded on a Tuesday, early evening.
