The Best £10 Meals In London - London - The Infatuation

"Win, loss, or draw—you’ll find some Arsenal fans looking for satisfaction around The Tastebox’s smoking drum. The Caribbean takeaway spot at the top of Gillespie Road makes some of north London’s smokiest jerk and it’s an excellent meal pre or post match, or any day of the week for that matter. Oxtail stew and curry chicken are always nourishing boxes to get into and, if you’re lucky, you might be able to grab one of the seats outside. More often than not they’re for regulars though—so you might want to put some hours in first." - jake missing, rianne shlebak

The Best Caribbean Jerk Spots In London - London - The Infatuation

"The mood around Highbury and Arsenal’s stadium on match day is altogether more cheery than it has been in recent years. That said, a trip to The Tastebox can turn a bad result into a good day. You can smell the smoke from the Caribbean takeaway spot’s drum before you see it, and the jerk chicken fresh off this grill is up there. Smokiness is the name of the game here and a box with rice and peas, Jamaican cabbage, and plantain goes down a treat on any Saturday, pre-match or not." - jake missing, heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak

Amazing place, you cannot go wrong here for taste or for price. The food is so good, and you get so much of it that it feels like you’re stealing it for the price of it! Must go, and when you do get the curried chicken or curried goat. You will not regret at all!

Was looking for a Caribbean restaurant, as I was feeling ravenous. I stopped at one and didn't really feel any Vybz, as I continued to walk the aroma that started to warft across my nose was undeniable jerk chicken, as I turned the corner I saw Jerk pan on the side ,steaming away. My nose had found the right spot@ the Taste box. The Jerk chicken was so succulent and had that authentic flavor. I also had Oxtail with rice and peas. I could not wait for the Mac and cheese, as I had an appointment, albeit I will definitely return to eat plenty more. The Chef and his sister and the brother who served me became like family and it was the first time we met. I wholeheartedly recommend this as a finger licking ,bone sucking , belly full of love place to eat. Enjoy and see you soon. Hopefully next time I come, I'll be just in time as the pots ready🤤

I got food poisoning from here. I ate here Thursday evening and have been non stop ill for the last 3 days. Judging by other reviews this is a one off but I want to make others aware just in case. I had the jerk chicken- they made it out back instead of out the drum like I usually see them do, not sure if they used old chicken or what happened but I’m fd up. Wish me luck folks.

I've been to many west indian places but this is my second time getting jerk chicken meal with just chicken breast. Taste Absolutely horrible. I am a regular and therfore they just thought we give him a chicken breast. White guy next to me got jerk chicken with bones. Seems like they only want to satisfy English people give them the best chicken and regular get average chicken breast.

Normally I don't give bad reviews but I'm upset as a caribbean person.Ordered festivals, they sent dumplings. My large chicken soup had 1 dumpling, 2 pieces of carrots and a piece of chicken bone for £6 each. Absolutely out of order and poor in comparison to other takeaways. No yam, no potato etc. If I wanted a broth I would make it myself. Will not be ordering from here again. Please do better...

The best goat curry I've ever had in my life - super tender! The plantains were great too and the meal was a great deal. Seriously really good.

My friend who lives local recommended this place and it did not disappoint. As I walked up to the front, the smoking drum was kicking out some seriously tasty smells of what I assume was jerk chicken, but I went for the curried goat stew for my first taste and it was excellent. Really nice guy who runs it and the soundtrack was proper too. These are the kind of places that foodies dream of finding, simple, understated but god, damn tasty!
