After taking an Uber from Manchester, New Hampshire to Salem, Massachusetts, I wandered around town, looking for a restroom and found The Tavern at Hawthorne Hotel.
I needed to have lunch anyway, but needed the bathroom first. I had hoped that having lunch here would permit me to use the restroom facilities here at this hotel. I got lucky and kept my promise and instead I was just leaving without having lunch here. Apparently this place was popular because I had to wait maybe 10 minutes before the server came around and asked how much people per group. Once my turn came around I quickly asked if I could use the restroom before getting seated, and he said OK. Once I was seated and ready to order, it was quite an experience. This place seems to be a bit contemporary while being above average in terms of dining experience. Not quite fine, but it was definitely not casual for sure. It was in between casual and contemporary, but quite sophisticated at the same time but not fine dining. I spent about an hour and a half here. It was a nice place to just and unwind from the travel experience. I ordered the 1925 burger that was ordered, medium rare and served with french fries I also ordered a side of onion rings. Drink of choice was two local beers, which I had two of them through my meal here. The price is here can be up there, but I was in Salem, Massachusetts and on vacation. Might as well actually. The beers was actually interesting and definitely a compliment to the burger and fries I had and the onions. It was pretty cool to be here and definitely recommended if you're in the area.
The overall experience here at The Tavern at the Hawthorne hotel Salem was quite interesting and definitely a place where I normally don't go, because of being upscale and contemporary. But as it turns out, it was meant to be. Fate, as it were. I wanted to taste the local craft beers they had and have lunch here. The hotel was busting. Everybody seem to want to have lunch here and there was a line 3 deep when I got here. The restaurant itself was pretty popular and thankful I got a table without waiting too long. Service was very friendly and professional about getting people served and on their way. For the most part, though, it was definitely a nice experience to dine here at The Tavern. The burger was funny nice and hit the spot. The french fries was pretty neat and quite crunchy. I ended up having that first before biting into the burger. Particularly liked the beer pairing which made this meal very nice and complementary. Had two beers and the tab came out to be at least $50 if I'm not mistaken. Oh the joys of vacation for sure, lol. Everything tasted heavenly and definitely a place to come to if you are in the heart of Salem Massachusetts, and need a bite to eat. Definitely recommended for sure. I ended up coming here while there had a pretty large Halloween event type thing in the middle of October..
The Tavern at the Hawthorne Hotel is located at 18 Washington Square W in beautiful Salem, Massachusetts. It is a few blocks from the Salem witch museum. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. Don't forget to ask your server about what kind of wines and beers they have available. You don't wanna miss that complementary pairing of local beers with your meal. As far as parking goes, there's only street parking that I know, of if you are driving. Street parking is at a premium here for sure. Not sure if Salem has public transportation system here or if it's connected with Boston's public transportation system. As for me, though, I ended up Uber in from Manchester, New Hampshire and left in an Uber to my hotel near Boston. Where is always a good option for anybody and everybody who needs it. You can always have a car but to navigate Salem Massachusetts best thing to do is have an Uber if you can. If not, there's always having a car, your own or rented, but parking can be at a premium. And so, if you're in the area, come on down for some craft beer and some good food you may be glad you did. I know I did and just might be a hidden gem in Salem Massachusetts.
