On the Grid : Teahouse

"A Taiwanese cream teahouse that journied all the way from Kaohsiung, it now supplies Houstonians with flavorful teas, smoothies, and slushies. I would try to avoid the after-school rush, but at any given moment there is probably a line to the door anyway. Service is swift, and before you know it your drink is in hand. Hang out and study (it's a little distracting for those of us that are less disciplined), or find table and play some games. Don't forget to add tapioca, or fruit jellies if you prefer." - Curiosity and Curiosities

Houston’s 12 Best Bubble Tea Shops - Eater Houston

"This chain operates multiple Houston outposts, making it one of the city’s most convenient (and reliably good) boba tea options. Literally hundreds of beverages are possible here, ranging from hazelnut cream tea to avocado smoothies and Vietnamese iced coffee. Load down your drink with “sinkers” like tiny tapioca, aloe vera jelly, or lychee jelly." - Amy McCarthy

Google
My first time here, José was EXCEPTIONAL he made it super easy to order. Encouraged me to try a drink I was had questions about, recommended me to try pop corn chicken. I went ahead and did all his recommendations although I was only there for Thai tea I left with a newly found favorite of mine. I was certain I wasn’t going to download the app, until he quickly explained how beneficial it was. I downloaded it and will 100% be coming back. That’s the type of service that is missing in some businesses. Thank you Jose. 10/10 I recommend

Google
they have this happy hour going on right now I think by the end of June on Wednesdays 4 to 6 PM and it's half off for the drinks. expect to be standing in line for quite some time whether it is happy hour or not. lots of foot traffic. even though they have several staff making drinks there's only one cashier at the front which is probably not the best idea when there's like the door out of the line. i've been coming here for almost 10 years since college and honestly their drink has been consistent and delicious so 4 stars for that . great customer service.

Google
I tried this place and it was a good experience. The environment is inviting and there is plenty of seating area. There is a lounge type area on the back of the establishment. It's a perfect area to go find an area to yourself and do some work on a computer, read, or just have leisure time. They also have food here. I ordered the Taro cream tea 75% sugar with Lychee. Next time I will get more sugar it wasn't as sweet as I would have liked . I tried the yucca fries. They were fried quite hard but I ate them bc they were purchased and I was hungry. I recommend the chili sauce it was tasty. It is the same sauce used with egg rolls at some Asian restaurants it's sweet and wasn't spicy for me at all.

Came here last minute after the aquarium dinner reservations that I had for my daughter’s birthday they want Boba and they offered them free drinks for the birthday girl. It was awesome. The kids love it very courteous very clean. Nice variety of bonus.

Google
I have been coming to this location for many years and I love it. I felt nostalgic today because it had been a while and it reminded me of the times I will come here to study, then when I was looking for a job, and now just to relax and enjoy the tea. I like that they have added snack items to their menu. Love the crunchy spring rolls. My favorite tea is taro coconut milk tea with tapioca. Unlike other places, they can customize the sugar level which I really appreciate. In addition, the staff taking your order is super friendly and attentive. This will be forever my favorite Teahouse location.

Google
a popular place to chill, eat a snack and drink. recently remodeled space to accommodate more people. there are often students hanging out and studying in the back room. you can now order ahead through the app to reduce anytime waiting. we’ve been coming for years and we always enjoy a mango cream blend, some popcorn chicken and squid balls. the popcorn is tender, juicy and flavorful.

Google
Nice chill vibe if you want to study or work. The cream blended smoothies are so tasty. I always add the fruit to my passion fruit drink. Even when busy, drinks come out pretty quickly. Highly recommend this place. Customer service is great and they play good music! Check them out <3

Yelp
Food is always good, although I had to find out today the squid balls were discontinued...nevertheless, I always enjoy the vibe and the food, and its super con form my job that I typically have no time to get away from.

Yelp
The Shepherd location has the best atmosphere to get work done on my laptop and the popcorn chicken bites are scrumptious.

Yelp
had a great time here! the strawberry banana cream blend with tapioca was extremely refreshing and hit the spot if you want something filling. the berry lime fruit tea with tapioca was well balanced, not tart or to sweet, just perfect! the spicy popcorn chicken was so good my boyfriend and I went back for another after we finished our shared one lol the environment is super nice here. there's a cute sitting area at the front where you can listen to the music that was playing and the playlist was filled with nothing but good music so shoutout whoever is controlling the playlist! the back area of the teahouse is pretty large. there's a ton of seating and it seems it's made for studying or focusing on something your working on since it's a lot more quiet back there. i thought that was super cool. besides the food and drinks they were selling small pieces of art that i admired. my boyfriend bought one for me right away. made our day a little sweeter ~ thanks teahouse!

Yelp
This is my go-to tea place when I go to Target which is located in the same plaza which means free parking! You can order ahead of time or when you arrive. Service has always been good and the recommendations for teas has not disappointed. My favorite are the cream teas. The place itself is a bit small but there is always a table available. One thing that makes them different is the fact that they also sell a couple of food options such as popcorn chicken, egg rolls and fries. I will be back!

Yelp
Visited on Sunday afternoon, it's packed with people, we waited for almost 20 minutes to get drinks. I had the Taiwanese pineapple with green tea, just a mediocre drink, there's only one tiny piece of pineapple chunk. This branch is huge with two shop lots linked together at the back of the shop

Yelp
I frequent here often and I've never had a bad encounter. The staff is always kind. The establishment is throughly clean. My order is always fresh.

Yelp
Resident mate was nearby and picked up some goodies for me while I went back to work. She ordered popcorn chicken, squid balls and bubble tea. The popcorn chicken had minimal chicken and instead was a bunch of flour. The flour to chicken ratio was 10:1. The squid balls aka fish balls were very elastic and flavorless similar to defrosted frozen fish balls. My bubble tea tasted like Lipton iced tea. The tapioca was terrible and also tasted like defrosted frozen tapioca balls. It reminds me of the times when you shoot tapioca balls at people in high school. Overall, disappointed.

Yelp
Beware of their shady rewards system. I lost over 20+ free drinks which I've spent hundreds of dollars accumulating over the years. Never supporting their scam business again.

Yelp
I've been coming to this specific location for a very long time. There is a huge study space in the back and snack for those long sessions. I admire the cleanliness and push to keep the place updated. The atmosphere is inviting, the staff is nice. The drinks are always made fresh. Not every TeaHouse is equal. This one is definitely top of my list.

Yelp
Always amazing service and tea! Been coming here 20 years! And they're one of the few Teahouse's that's consistent.

Yelp
the best location amazing been going for about 10 years now never had to throw a drink away or had a bad time it's amazing vibe

Yelp
I parked in the joined parking lot and came in for a large lychee green tea that totaled just under $5. I washed my hands while I waited and when I came out it was done. The tea was delicious. The lychee flavor was potent but the tea was not too sweet. The tea was served hot but I was still able to drink it slowly. 10/10 do recommend.
google avatar

Albert K.

Yelp
Good milk tea. Not too sweet but also not sweet enough. The taste tasted more like a tea than a milk tea. Overall tons of space here and clean spot, but the milk tea tasted much more like tea than a milk tea.

Yelp
I came here with a hankering for boba and saw all the great reviews. Taro cream tea was delicious and refreshing and hit the spot dead on with my craving. Priced at about $6 bucks. I opted to give their squid balls a try as a drive home snack (you get a cup of 9 for $4 and change). They were hot and had that elastic chewy texture they are known for. Definitely plan to come back to give more of their fresh fruit options a whirl. The case of fruits was an awesome visual on arrival.

Yelp
On my first visit, I quickly learned that there are two entrances to this place and each side of the cafe has a very different "vibe". On one side, it's very quiet and people were studying while the other side has people chatting and plying board games. I ordered a citrus camomile tea hot and my friend ordered a milk tea with mini boba. Both of us liked our drinks very much and enjoyed playing games while catching up. The prices were about average for a cafe/ coffee shop. The staff at the counter was friendly; however, they hadn't tried any of the items we asked about so they weren't much help when trying to decide what to order. I enjoyed my drink and the option to play games so I would visit again.

Yelp
Came by here for a boba run with friends and had a blast. Ambiance is nice and chilled. They have a beautiful fish tank! Drink selection is large and service was quick!
google avatar

Jacquelyn C.

Yelp
The drinks here are alright, but it's super spacious and service is quick. There's space at the front if you're just hanging out or waiting for a drink, but for students and people studying there is a huge back room area perfect for settling in for hours. They also serve food here (the popcorn chicken is good)!

Yelp
OG Teahouse in Houston located near the River Oaks area in Shepherd and Westheimer. Decently sized parking plaza means plenty of parking and traffic. Interior is bigger than expected and it's old school in that it's not super millennial friendly and instagrammable and clean like a Yumcha or Feng Cha or any of those spots in Chinatown. They do make a good avocado cream blend smoothie that's decent every time.
google avatar

Keisha R.

Yelp
They always move fast. They're nice and speedy when ordering. The tables are always clean. The drinks are exactly what you expect and similar to other locations. No issues. I come here often.

Yelp
It's always a pleasure visiting the is location. Their customer service is a 10/10. They're always super kind & make the best drinks.

Yelp
Such a great experience! Isabella was the best. She let us sample and also recommended a great drink. Will definitely return

Yelp
I usually go to Hella Bubble but was wanting to try a new place. The tea tasted so strange not even comparable to hella bubble. The spicy fries were great and the customer service was good.
google avatar

Gabrielle B.

Yelp
I love my tea so much! It was a custom order and turned out perfectly. The popcorn chicken is my favorite snack. This is the only location that actually puts the fresh basil and it really makes the difference, it's so good.

Yelp
There are numerous locations for The Teahouse, but I'm pretty certain this Montrose one is the most popular one of them all. As one of the city's most celebrated local chains, the brand in general does a really solid job of showcasing a nearly unmatched variety of teas and fruity blends. In terms of abundance, it screams Texas all the way. Before getting to the plethora of drinks, I think it's worth remarking on the plethora of space. This place is way bigger than it looks from the outside and the strip mall location doesn't really signify what kind of space this is. The front counter where all the ordering / action is, is always bustling with activity. There's the sound of the machines whirling in the background, music playing from TV, and people lining up left and right. There's a good bit of seating in the main room, which is pretty ideal for small'ish groups and a bit of people watching. Walk a few steps past the kitchen and the lounge is the real deal. There are couches, sectioned off spaces, and plenty of room for groups to mingle or for a private study session. The WiFi is good and the ventilation is great. As far as the drinks go, I'd be hard pressed to think of something they *don't* offer. There's a dedicated section of green teas, fruit teas, black teas, and even a number of oolong specialties. Then there's actual coffee, blends / smoothies, and even cream tea. They have a fresh heaping of fruits displayed every day and I think that's where their strength lies. Honey dew is one of my favorite flavors and they do it well here. They infuse fruits with the teas and I think passion fruit with black or green tea is also an easy choice. If I'm feeling indulgent, I'll go with a fruity cream blend, such as taro, peach, or mango. The prices are standard but my biggest beef is the service. I've had drinks that were poorly made (lid not sealed, too much ice, etc.) previously and sometimes they're so understaffed the wait can be a little long. As a result, I try to stop by when it's during their non-peak hours and usually the experience is pretty good. I'm still constantly filling up my loyalty card and hoping to score my free drink soon.

Yelp
This is my third time coming here. Each time I have came, the staff has been very helpful and my drink has been delicious! I usually get a Carmel flavored tea, which is always done perfectly, but this time I decided to try the Thai green tea with tapioca and at 50% sugar. It was perf! Reminded me of my favorite ice cream, matcha green tea. The inside of the Teahouse is simple but cute. It gives an intimate feel. I will always go back when I'm craving some tea and in the area.

Yelp

Yelp
Fish are funny. They staring hard. Mango cream blend with tapioca was pretty good. ..

Yelp
The food was perfect and I loved it, I would have gotten more if I had time. The service was very nice and spot on with my order, they got my orders correct. The ambiance was great the place is clean and the take care of it perfectly.

Yelp
Love this spot. I've tried other locations but this is my first time trying this one. Huge menu with something for everyone. Yummy honeydew cream tea! Yummy matcha cream tea! That's all I tried this time... Extra points for offering baby tapioca. Snacks! The squid balls were delicious. Great place to satisfy your boba tea cravings.
google avatar

Yelp
Lot of people there on a Friday after school. We watched the crowds come and go. Could be somewhere like 15 people wait at times. Mango Cream Blend and Oreo cream blend were tasty.
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
I'd never heard of Teapress. They described Teapress as made using tea bags whereas the other black / green teas use syrups. Say what??? If that's true, I am shocked and wondering what other teahouses use. I think this is the only Houston location that offers Teapress. I got the Peach Oolong Teapress, 25% sweet with baby tapioca. It was pretty good and definitely on the less sweet side. Sweet potato fries were different than your standard. I'm not sure what seasonings they use, but it was different not in a bad way.

Merribelle N.

Yelp
Drinks came out quickly! Service was nice and the place was pretty peaceful so I studied there for hours!

Yelp
Amazing drinks!! Love the flavor of every drink I've tasted! Great spot to relax and chill. Great customer service!

Yelp
Extremely disappointed by this location. I have always had a great experience with the other Teahouse location, but I came to this location during the BOGO offer on the 1st Tuesday of the month. Not only did they take each order extremely slowly(about 15 minutes to order), but they also took over 25 mins(after the order was placed) to make the drinks. The other locations usually offer BOGO for multiple drinks, but at this location, the "Manager" was only allowing the BOGO to work for a single drink. Every other location allows for multiple BOGOs so this was very frustrating. He also allowed for some people do more than one BOGO offer, but he prevented others from doing the same. It definitely seemed unfair and unreasonable. The most annoying part was that he didn't even tell me that the BOGO only applies to one drink and took my order for several drinks slowly, then finally in the end, he told me the total amount without including the BOGO deal for the drinks. He did not even tell me as I was ordering that the BOGO would only be applied to one drink. Such a huge waste of time, especially to come here in the middle of a workday for such horrible service. After waiting 25 minutes for the two drinks I ordered, they looked very bubbly (almost like sparking water was used instead of green tea) and did not taste the usual tea I buy. I also asked for "less ice" so of course, they added no ice and left some of cup empty. I was completely let down by the service and treatment at this location. 40 minutes to get some boba tea seems absurd. I'll stick to the other locations of Teahouse to get my favorite tea made properly and quickly.

Maggie L.

Yelp
Fast & friendly. Also, this location has an amazing back room that's great for getting work done or just hanging out!

Yelp
Great late night study spot with a lot tables and wall plugs. Caffeinated drinks are strong if you wanna stay up

Yelp
The best! Tea was on point, vibes were solid, people were hanging out or on their laptops, loved this boba place.

Yelp
Boba tea in Houston, Texas... I took my niece to Target to return a few items. Right next door was this boba shop... How convenient! We had parked in the free shared lot, so, it was easy to just go over and get some refreshments! August in Houston is super humid and hot. Any kind of liquid will prevent dehydration. I got a Japanese Sakura Green Tea and my niece got a Coconut Cream Tea. Both were delicious and hit the spot! I'm so happy to have gotten her her first boba tea in her new city! She likes boba and I do, too! Thank you to The Teahouse Tapioca and Tea for a cute environment, great service, yummy snack, and fun experience!

Edshepp S.

Yelp
Clean space, friendly staff, great place to study or catch up with friends or family.

Anjal C.

Yelp
Always a great experience! The popcorn chicken is made to order and comes out piping hot! Simply delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
Nobody is managing the store. Four people are working and they are standing around talking and forgetting orders. Also, they are not nice!

Zelda L.

Yelp
This was my first time and it was a great experience, Great drinks and the chicken was hot and crispy with just a hint of spice.
google avatar

Yelp
Probs one of the best boba shops I've been to, if not the best. Service was awesome, and I got a Mango Peach Green Tea (my go-to), but something about their ingredients make this THE boba spot to hit in Houston!
google avatar

Moriah H.

Yelp
Tea = good. Where this place stands out is that they were totally fine with my reusable cup! You are also free to meet up to exchange items on Nextdoor/Offerup/Craigslist here. I had no issue with my deal occurring here. Get the Taro Milk drink with boba pearls and thank me later :).
google avatar

Roma B.

Yelp
Cute boba place! Lots of seating inside. They have coconut milk base tea too. Got the taro coconut milk tea with boba (1/2 sweetness, 1/2 ice). Loved the coconut base, it paired well with the taro flavor and wasn't overwhelming. The tapioca pearls were fresh and light. Good proportion of boba to tea.
google avatar

Requel P.

Yelp
I ordered their honey black tea. Unfortunately I meant to get a honey black milk tea & didn't realize it until I had gotten my drink. This location didn't have a lot of the flavors that I normally look for. But the tea was still good. I could've gotten it more sweeter but it was fine. I also added the mini boba.

Stephanie N.

Yelp
Delicious drinks! Great Service! The fish in the fish tank are beautiful and peaceful to watch!
