2 Days in Dublin

"Follow this with a short detour to The Temple Bar, where literature and libations have long been bedfellows, and where you'll find Dubliners at their most gregarious. It's a living, breathing homage to the city's convivial spirit." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

"St. Patrick's Day in Dublin Arriving in Dublin on the morning of St. Patrick's Day is like experiencing the calm before the storm. The cobblestone streets of Temple Bar are quiet and nearly empty, and bicyclists can cycle through the narrow streets with ease. This is the time to have breakfast while devising a plan: Do you want to find a place near the parade route? Should you claim a table at a pub? We filled up on eggs and coffee at Elephant and Castle in Temple Bar, and then saw the end of the parade. By noon, streets were clogged with people from all over the world -- singing in the streets, painting shamrocks on strangers' faces -- and pubs rang out with traditional Irish songs. Don't be shy if you don't know the lyrics, since there's a good chance you'll hear the songs again. Have a Guinness (or two) and join in!"

Had a 14 hour layover in Dublin and had to come here for a pint! It was very lively and busy, but I didn’t have to line up to get in. It was also during the Oasis comeback, so some of the songs were spot on. I was solo and it was easy to meet others and chat. I’m sure other reviews will say this but the drinks are pricier than other places, but they don’t charge a cover. Overall I had a good time and I don’t think you can come to Dublin for the first time without at least stopping by!

Google
Had to stop by this pub — it’s a classic spot for first-time visitors to Dublin with loads of history and character. It’s been around for ages and has that cozy, old-world charm. It does get crowded, but if you enjoy lively bars, you’ll love the energy here. I didn’t try the food, but being able to order drinks right from the table was super convenient, especially traveling solo. And the live traditional music? Loved it — a great way to soak up the atmosphere.

Google
The place is really nice, and has a nice vibe, but it feels very much for tourists. If you want to be in a nice place, with music and lots of people, then it's ok, but if you are looking for a more local Irish experience, then this is not the place. The beer is super expensive...

Google
My friends and I had this pub as our first stop on our night out in Dublin. It is quite crowded over the weekends and a bit more chill during the week, We came here every night during our few days in Dublin because we really enjoyed the vibes. There's live music and the drinks are really good. I deducted a star from my rating only because the drinks are overpriced, Otherwise, I enjoyed the setting and the staff was very lovely.

Google
Had an amazing time at Temple Bar in Dublin! The atmosphere was lively and full of energy, with great live music and a fun crowd. It’s a bit busy, but that’s part of the charm. The staff were friendly and the drinks were excellent — a perfect place to experience the vibrant Irish pub culture. Definitely a must-visit spot when you’re in Dublin!

Google
This is a true cult spot, a must-visit that perfectly captures the real spirit and amazing atmosphere of Dublin. 🍀✨ I enjoyed it so much and would recommend everyone to go and experience it for themselves. We even left a little souvenir behind - hope you like it! Greetings from Croatia, with love. 🇭🇷💚

Google
Dylan is an awesome barman. He introduced me to single malt Irish whiskey today. I recommend dropping in and paying him a visit. You won't regret it. The place is kept spotless. The music is quite nice, and drinks go down smoothly. Thank you Dylan! I'll see you again soon!

Google
Best Irish Pub atmosphere I’ve been too in ages! This location is well renowned around the world for all the smiles, happy vibes it procures but especially because of all the famous people who have been here as visitors or to perform. The food is also very good and the staff really nice, polite and efficient. Decorated like a true Irish pub with great live music always playing! FYI: There is an ATM machine in the basement beside the washrooms if you ever need real cash money. GOOD JOB 👏🏻

Yelp
Yes, it's touristy. Yes, the locals say that there are MANY better places. But I STILL come here upon every visit to Dublin, as I love the VIBE here. It's packed, loud and raucous, but it's quintessentially Dublin! Last time I was in Dublin, I was here for a few days, and I made an effort to try a pint of Guinness in different pubs, and to be quite honest- the best pints I had were here! Not to mention, the oysters are always fresh and tasty, and go so well with a pint of Guinness. If you stay long enough, the band will eventually play "Sweet Caroline," and the entire bar will be singing- it is quite impressive! I love to come here with friends as it is so much fun, but if you come alone, it's great to walk around all the different areas and rooms of this place and stand in awe of the history here! Even if you only come once in your life, this place is a must visit!

Yelp
The history alone makes this a must visit! Let me start by saying one NEVER been to a bar this big. It has to be the equivalent of a US city block. The night wr visited the bar was packed from door-to-door, but people were surprisingly accommodating and made space for a few more new friends. The drink selection is as expected and the bartenders were proficient and fast. It's definitely visit again if I were in the area. I think this is a bucket list stop for any Dublin tourist.

Yelp
Top 10 for this joint::: 1) Yes it's a *Tourist Trap* but it's fun with lots of characters! 2) A Pint of Guinness is 11 Euros 3) The bar itself is actually beautiful, a Temple they say? Look around 4) Watch for random weirdos that may be very drunken 5) They have Live Music 7 days/ nights a week 6) The staff is actually very nice & good 7) Watch for groups of Bros mainly from Scotland extremely intoxicated 8) The Christmas decorations are second to none.. well maybe Gingerman 9) The Back Bar is your best bet if you hate people 10) Go there and get a Guinness, you won't regret it!

Yelp
Very lively bar with great live music. We went twice during our visit and both times were so fun. The first time we grabbed a table and had a late lunch. The bar was pretty crowded so we ordered on our phone and the food came out pretty quickly. We ordered vanilla espresso martinis and it was the perfect pick me up. We also ordered a round of ciders and I appreciate that they had the half pint option. Can't want to visit again!

Yelp
Spectacularly fun with great entertainment. Based on other reviews and discussions about it being a tourist trap, I expected to hate it, but I didn't. In fact, we ended up going 3 times during our 8-day stay in Dublin. Yeah, it's a little more expensive than other pubs, but they have a system of service that is a well-oiled machine and entertainment at all hours. It was a great experience and since I'm an EarthCam app fan, I was able to talk with my daughters and they were able to see us enjoying ourselves for a few minutes. That was fun! The worst part about the bar is the food. It was just okay, basic food. Next time I'll eat before I go.

Yelp
Super fun and chill bar. Whether you're a backpacker in Europe or coming with an entourage everyone here is so friendly and looking to just have a good time all around. Drinks prices are so reasonable here and unlike the states staff isn't trying to price gouge you for tips which is so refreshing in this economy. Plus, while Ireland is a beer and whiskey town there are great drinks for everyone's pallet. If I'm ever back in Dublin, I'll be sure to be back here
google avatar

Yelp
This pub lives up to its reputation! Don't get tricked into thinking you've arrived when seeing a neighboring pub, keep walking toward the Golden Arches! We were excited to see The Temple Bar decorated for the holidays and of course were sure to see ourselves on Earth Cam. There is live feed outside of the bar as well as inside the pub near the stage. We visited in the afternoon and ran into a couple of pals from our tour which was a nice surprise. I had a Guinness and my friend had an Angry Orchard. You'll discover from reading any of my Ireland reviews, these were our drinks of choice. ;) The bar was packed and a band was setting up to perform. This was the last spot to visit on my Ireland bucket list and it didn't disappoint. I'm sure it's a lot more fun in the evening hours, but I'm not in my 20s so we enjoyed an afternoon adult beverage instead. It was one hell of a craic!

Yelp
Came here during October 2024 and they already had holiday decor! The vibe and atmosphere was amazing even on a weekday when I went on a Tuesday. There was live music. It was busy and crowded so it was hard to find seating. There is a QR code on the table where you can order food and drinks but the weird thing is that there aren't any table numbers for you to indicate which table for them to deliver to. They definitely need to fix that. Overall it was a great experience and definitely a place to check out and grab a Guinness.
google avatar

Cristina M.

Yelp
What a blast! I know it's touristy but who cares because it WAS SO MUCH FUN! We got a seat right in front of the music ( granted we did arrive around noon) and drank pint after pint .The server came around frequently and you could also order with QR code from phone. We were never thirsty! Can't wait to return!

Yelp
One of the many stops in Dublin's City Center Thursday night! The original Temple Bar was amazing! Standing room only and the vibe at every place we went was just like this...everyone having a great time and met so many people from around the world. If you're in Dublin, the Temple Bar district is a must visit! On a scale of 1 - 10, this is one of my favorite places in the world!!
google avatar

Teena D.

Yelp
Gord and I went to the Temple Bar last Tuesday at 6pm and it was jammed! It's a huge place! I figured we'd stop in for an obligatory touristy drink but it was surprisingly a fun time and Gord and I stayed a while listening to the band.
google avatar

Tanya J.

Yelp
Very cool bar, but gets packed! There was live music and a ton of people. Wasn't able to get a drink but enjoyed the crowd there. Great bar and highlight area .
google avatar

Heather B.

Yelp
Definitely the most expensive pint I've had in Dublin BUT you're paying for the experience I think. And what an experience. Quick service. Great music. Wonderful atmosphere. Glad I got to go here.
google avatar

Nanci S.

Yelp
It certainly was an out of the ordinary experience! The maximum capacity is 600, and I would say it appeared to be true. We managed to get seats at the bar and the bartender was very friendly to us. He even gave me a postcard, aw, thanks.
google avatar

Brian M.

Yelp
Definitely a place to stop in. The ambiance is fun and history. Located in a great part of Dublin. The drinks are served from multiple bars. So grab a beer and walk around the place or just grab a table and enjoy the setting. Lively music and good people are everywhere.
google avatar

Shriya S.

Yelp
This place is historic/legendary - and for very good reason! The vibe was amazing - complete with standing room only and a live band! I cannot tell you how funny it was shoving my backpack and I into this bar flooded with people on a Saturday night, but during my time I met a Czech person, Brazilian person, Manchester person - it's just a melting pot of friendly people and was super fun, even when I wasn't particularly dressed for a night out! It seems like this place is always jam-packed no matter what time you go but I managed to find a seat at one the many bars inside. The bartender was really sweet and super friendly despite how busy he was. Overall, it's just a good experience and I definitely recommend checking it out when you're in town.

Yelp
The Temple Bar is one of those places in Dublin you're either going to love or hate. It is the most well known and most photographed/most visited bar in the heart of the lively Temple Bar area. It's worth a visit to see for yourself even though many may dismiss it as a tourist trap or a gimmick bar. The positives: it's plenty spacious, with festively decorated rooms. The atmosphere is generally upbeat and electric, even during mid-day. Many pubs in the area and throughout Dublin have music, but you're sure to find live music here throughout the day, whereas others only at certain times or select days of the week. The negatives: both food and drinks are expensive compared to other bars (like tourist trap prices). It can get extremely crowded, and you may need to do a lap through the various rooms before you find an open seat/table. When live music is performed, the part of Temple Bar where the stage is located becomes packed with people standing shoulder to shoulder to view the performance, with many people having phones up to record it (as expected with any touristy place). Despite live music being performed throughout the day, it may not be Irish music as some performers did covers of mainstream songs. You won't be among locals, as this place is a tourist/visitor magnet (locals know prices here are inflated). Overall, The Temple Bar is worth a visit, but I'd just stop in for one drink to check out the vibe/music/atmosphere, as there are many other more traditional Irish pubs in the area with more reasonably priced food and drink. You may want to stay for a few drinks if you're really enjoying the ambiance, as many were doing. I loved the decor in the various rooms, and really liked the opportunity to hear some live Irish music here.
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
All the things you want. Bustling staff, unique whiskey and of course endless pints. The atmosphere was a good mix of local and tourist vibe. Must stop.
google avatar

Dave J.

Yelp
Came here after months of waiting, yet the hype was in vain. The pub was overhyped, despite what some people say. The price of some pints were much higher than other pubs and they do that just for the name. I stopped at two other pubs that were much cheaper and tasted much better. The ambiance was over the top crowded and just packed with tourists and people wanting to drink at the famous pub. Overall just noisy, crowded, and not fun. Wouldn't recommend coming here other than to get your picture taken and say you've been to Temple Bar
google avatar

Fernanda A.

Yelp
The Original Temple Bar is an iconic in the heart of Dublin. The bar's interior is a charming mix of traditional Irish pub decor and eclectic memorabilia. It has a welcoming and lively ambiance. The is a selection featuring a wide range of local beers, whiskeys, and expertly crafted cocktails. The Guinness, of course, is a must-try and arguably some of the best you'll find in Dublin. Live music is a staple at the Original Temple Bar. I was present on the day the "Buskin Bandits " played They are extremely talented. They played famous ballads we all know, but also authentic Irish music. The fish and chips and the traditional Irish stew come highly recommended. It can get pretty packed but it is still a great time, and you want to stay there the whole night. Original Temple Bar is a must-visit for anyone. It truly is an unforgettable experience.
google avatar

Matthew P.

Yelp
Really fun atmosphere with a beautiful little courtyard in the middle to enjoy the good weather. Very very crowded 95% of the time and pretty pricey. The ham and cheese sandwich was good-was basically two sandwiches and came with crisps(potato chips) but for 19.90€ I'd have preferred less for cheaper bc it was too much food for me. You'll meet a lot of interesting people from all over here
google avatar

Ciera T.

Yelp
You have to go to say you did! Two pints of Guinness were about 19 euro and drinks (vodka tonic) was around 15. The live music is great. Tons of people so definitely have to fight for a spot but overall good service given how busy they were.
google avatar

Jake J.

Yelp
Most overpriced place in all of Dublin. 10 euro for Guinness is mind boggling. Check it out I guess but it's a complete tourist trap
google avatar

Alli C.

Yelp
Stopped into the infamous Temple Bar at 10:30 am (opening) on our first day in Dublin. There was already live music and a vast selection of cozy places to sit and have a pint. The Irish coffee was excellent and the service exceptional; both bartenders were friendly and conversational, and both offered us great recommendations for beers and whiskeys and places to visit during our time in Dublin. We later passed by Temple Bar when it was busier and even crowded later in the day, it would still be worth the visit!
google avatar

Ashlynn W.

Yelp
It's packed!! I just arrived but the drinks. AMAZING. Food. EVEN BETTER. Music: LOVE.
google avatar

Ed R.

Yelp
First place we stopped before checking into our room: Oysters and a Guinness! Doesnt feel "touristy" at least during the day. Night time gets crazy busy but still a must see. Interior is classic Irish Pup decor and "traditional music" all day and all night.
google avatar

Alexis R.

Yelp
This place is worth the hype! My friends and I went in to Temple Bar thinking we'd have 1 drink to say we've been there and then head to a less touristy pub. However, we ended up staying several hours because of how much fun it was! The live music was great, the people were nice, and the service was efficient. The bar was spacious with several rooms and a nice outside area to escape the crowds. If I return to Dublin I will definitely be going back to Temple Bar!
google avatar

Callan K.

Yelp
A fine pub but if you're looking for authenticity this may not be the best option. I was in the area and stopped in for a drink and a snack. The snack ended up being half dozen oysters (€16.50) and a pint (€8). The prices were on the higher side since a pint usually runs about €5-€6 but you go to say you've gone or to listen to the music which they have basically all day, everyday. I imagine this place can be busy so I suggest going early, or late, to avoid the crowds. I was there at an off time, weekday early afternoon and sat at the bar. The service was attentive and I was helped and served quickly. As a solo diner, the music and its volume was not a problem but if you had a group it would be difficult to hear each other. With so many amazing pub options I would suggest venturing out, but if you need a quick pint and want to listen to some music (at any time of the day), this is a solid option.
google avatar

Matthew S.

Yelp
The most well known bar in Dublin, and from my understanding, one of the oldest, if not THE oldest, it is a fun atmosphere that is also LOUD, expect to shout here over the lively music and the patrons all having a pint. That being said, the people are very cordial (for the most part), and everything tastes fresh and delicious. The bathrooms are also quite clean, but be careful walking to them as the steps are sticky and tight. Perhaps that is for the best with all the drinking you will do here. No trip to Dublin is complete without stopping here, you must do that.
google avatar

Sophia Y.

Yelp
Is this place kitschy and geared towards tourist? Is it loud AF with limited space to get around to ordering your drinks? The answer is yes to all but do yourself a favor and immerse yourself in this loud but iconic bar and get yourself a very overpriced pint of Guinness. Just a little tip that I wish I had known - you can order half pints if you don't want to guzzle a pint as you're bopping around town.
google avatar

Ron H.

Yelp
The pub in the area All of God's children come to Temple Bar A "little" overpriced, but worth the experience Visit early or visit late...
google avatar

Jamie S.

Yelp
Super packed. Wonderful live music. People are so kind and engaging. We didn't dine in, just stopped by because it's the bar in PS I Love You, and if you're in Ireland, how can you not stop in for a drink?
google avatar

Tiffani D.

Yelp
Famous temple bar pretty neet place to visit but make sure you get there early so you can get a spot if not you won't !!! Place is packed all the time ...
google avatar

Kerri F.

Yelp
Such a fun stop full of nostalgia and the live music is fantastic. The selection of whiskeys is like nothin you'll ever see in your life. Lov
google avatar

Ashley D.

Yelp
Had a great time at Temple Bar thanks to our server Andre who took great care of us for a few hours. Andre was on top of it - we'd order and just a couple minutes later our full table had drinks. The live music was also fantastic, a mix of Irish songs and well known cover songs all great to sing along to. It gets packed but highly recommend a visit!
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
Great pub Very large with live music You can order at bar and they also have roaming wait staff (in addition to online ordering via we code) Table numbers on wall Had the nachos with chicken - best have had in long time The pizza was good too Highly recommend
google avatar

Lisa J.

Yelp
Music is live, creating a great atmosphere but while you may not worry about pickpockets in here, they will certainly rob you at the bar! €10 for a pint of Guinness AND €17 for a porn star cocktail!! Plus the seating is rather uncomfortable meaning quite a transient customer base. No-one stays long, but they'll stripped you of your euros so they won't care. There's already someone vying for your seat.
google avatar

James N.

Yelp
I have loved coming here for almost 20 years and it never disappoints. Dublin may change over the years. Places come and go in Temple Bar. But The Temple Bar Pub never fails to be the place where everyone is in the best of spirits and memories are made. The history alone is enough to come have a pint within the walls. The live music from open to close is just icing on the cake! Come be a part of the history and I'll meet you at the bar!
google avatar

Glenda R.

Yelp
Loved the location, the drink selection, the friendly service!! I loved the energy and music and decor! I can see why it's a main attraction in Dublin Not the same as in Dublin but the one in Cardiff is a great stopping point after shopping with a view of the castle wall. Loved sitting outside in the beautiful weather

Leanne M.

Yelp
We spent two weeks exploring The British Isles! One of our favorite stops was The Temple Bar in Dublin! Our bar tender was Ian The Great and he made our experience wonderful ! - Leanne from PA
google avatar

Eugene A.

Yelp
You just have to! Super touristy (says the tourist) but a must see and try. We were able to get a seat at the bar. Food was good and service excellent. They manage the large crowds very well. We loved being able to experience it. Really fun area of Dublin. Must experience at night.
google avatar

Alena B.

Yelp
Really great photo opp area. Live music at night. Bright lights & fliral arrangements all around. Bar & food available. Chill hang out spot. Definitely a place to visit in Dublin. Peopld are really friendly and welcoming. Good service.
google avatar

Todd B.

Yelp
Sure, it's touristy, but isn't that why you came as a tourist to Dublin? Good service, plenty of pints to go around. LOUD, did we say LOUD - so the food is an afterthought, but this is a place you HAVE to put on your Dublin list of places to try.
google avatar

Curtis R.

Yelp
As the center piece to the temple bar area and a major tourist attraction, I was not expecting the best food only the best atmosphere and as it turned out, they both shined on this visit. My choice was the Ruben and the corned beef while not as good as mine, came in a close second with excellent, thinly sliced, tender, not salty and plenty of it. The bread was nicely toasted with fresh sauerkraut and pickles. The place was packed and the music was great, everyone having a good time joining in for the choruses with a few dancing a jig or two. The place was flooded with servers and were efficient and capable. Worthy of 1,2,3 or more visits.
google avatar

Evelyn M.

Yelp
Tourist check box yes! But is was packed outside & in. We did go inside and try for a drink but midday Saturday with beautiful weather and it was barely standing room.
google avatar

David E.

Yelp
Yes, it's iconic so, yes, you need to go here. Large bar with a great scene of locals and tourists alike. Wonderful music daily. Bring friends, make friends, be friends. They pour a decent Guiness when they probably don't have to. Fast bartenders, especially around back.
google avatar

Glenn A.

Yelp
Had stop for a pint and some photos out of respect to this legendary pub. The Temple Bar is one you must make a pilgrimage to when in Dublin if only for a pint as they're a bit more pricey here than elsewhere but hey it's tradition! Slantie

Edmond D.

Yelp
One of the best bars you will find around the world.I had really good time here. Live music, great drinks. Also ordered food which was great. Very highly recommend
google avatar

Janet E.

Yelp
Don't you love when people tell you not to go to a place because it's "too touristy?" Well, guess what?! We ARE tourists so of course we want to go to THE tourist area. Anyway, make sure you hit up the Temple Bar at least once. This place is great with live music, a fun crowd and expensive drinks. I could deal without paying €11 a beer but hey, no cover so I'll take it. The band was fab and everyone was so friendly and this was a Sunday night. We loved it here, "touristy" and all.
