"The popular Vietnamese restaurant at 2307 International Blvd. has closed, reports Tablehopper. Apparently owners Geoff Deetz and wife Quynh Nhu are looking for another location, so stay tuned for more on that." - Ellen Fort

"The menu changes constantly at the Temple Club, but you can bet you’ll see dishes that you can’t find anywhere else in the East Bay. Chef-owner Geoffrey Deetz spent 16 years cooking and eating in Vietnam, and he’s brought back dishes from all corners of the country to his colorful East Oakland restaurant." - Janelle Bitker

"“In a way,” Bauer writes, The Temple Club has become “another expat restaurant, but this one for Vietnamese who are nostalgic for their homeland.” Deetz shops for produce twice a day to find ingredients for the menu, which changes daily and aims for faithful reproductions of Vietnamese cuisine ranging from street foods to banquet dishes. The Goi Hoi An (marinated beef served cold with green papaya and onions) stood out with its aroma that “floats to the nostrils like the mist rising from rice paddies” and combination of spice and fish sauce that “tickles every region of the tongue.” While Deetz’s award-winning pho with sour beef broth was sold out on every one of Bauer’s visits, other options like the boneless pork stew with pickled mustard greens also “captures the essence” of the fresh-and-funky Vietnamese flavor palate. Other dishes, like chicken wings glazed in black pepper and fish sauce for example, have “nearly universal appeal,” as long as you’ve got a Tiger Beer to wash it down with. Two and a half stars for Temple Club." - Andrew Dalton

Just made our second visit to the Temple Club. Our meal was wonderful, tasty and fresh. We only ordered 3 starters and barely finished them. All really different from each other. The marinated beef salad with green papaya, cilantro and mint and I'm sure a bunch of other veggies was refreshing and if you wanted a little heat the server suggested the homemade hot sauce we added a touch and it was just enough. We went during the week to miss the busy weekend crowds. We plan to go back and try some more items soon. The staff was attentive and friendly. We we were able watch the Chef and crew prepare our meal which was a treat.

The food was really great, and the prices were very low for this area -- they could raise them and still have a big crowd. The service was very friendly, but slow due to their small kitchen. The problem this caused was things coming out as they were made, so two entrees were 15 minutes apart in when they were served. Worth the wait, though.

A tasty surprise. Fresh greens and spicy sauces compliment their various dishes. Loved the pork on cool noodles and whole chicken was enough for six to share. Service was very friendly and helpful. Be careful about visiting on Saturdays because they are open for lunch and some dinner menu items will have sold out.

Super delicious food and friendly service. Check it out if you like Vietnamese food and are willing to step away from the standard pho. The salads we're awesome and full of flavor. The quail eggs were tasty and a great starter. I will be back for sure. Wish they had a full bar.

Food is surprisingly very authentic and good considering the entire kitchen crew is not even Vietnamese. Service is a bit off during their busiest time when they get really slammed, but they handled it very well and professional. Worthy of a trip to a somewhat still sketchy part of Oakland.

Authentic. I've been 4-5 times with family and friends. It seemed like there was a learning curve at the beginning. Just small things like how to handle flow of customers, controlling temperature in the restaurant, etc. But the food has always been incredible, and the staff care about their work. One guy (Mike?) always remembers me and the fam and takes pride in what he does.

Stayed in Saigon for 3 weeks and have eaten at 50-100 Vietnamese restaurants in the U.S. This is the best Vietnamese food I've had outside of Vietnam. It's fresh, it's tasty, it's salty, it's sweet, the texture is all spot on. It's also an incredible value. Go. Now.

This restaurant creates an atmosphere of street food open air vendors in Vietnam. But the food is so much better. Crab in rich dark fish sauce reduction, lettuce rolls with wonderful textures and flavors. Intensely smoke flavored pork stew. And the Chef Geoffrey Deetz  coming out to meet us and check on our experience all made for a memorable evening.
