"Why we love it: A chic hotel offering luxury in the midst of downtown Knoxville The Highlights: - Stylish decor featuring the work of Tennessee craftsmen - Modern room amenities delightfully juxtaposed with old-school furnishings - A pet-friendly policy that pampers pooches The Review: Once an administrative building for the state government, The Tennessean turned a utilitarian space into a stylish boutique hotel, conveniently located near the burgeoning Old City and Market Square districts. With 82 plush rooms and suites overlooking downtown and World’s Fair Park, the hotel offers accommodations to suit tourists, business travelers, families, and even guests with pets. Whichever you choose, expect furnishings made by local craftsmen, plus amenities like luxury linens and modern gadgets in every room. While The Tennessean doesn’t offer self-parking, it does have valet along with butler service on request. On-site dining is available at the Drawing Room, which morphs from a cozy breakfast spot to an elegant bar and bistro at night, but there are several other fine-dining options within a short walk of the hotel."

Pretty perfect. I think our only complaint is that the espresso cups are too big to fit on the platform for the Nespresso machine in the room, so you have to do some fancy cup-holding. (First-world problem for sure.)||||Beautifully appointed, clean, quiet room--excellent night's sleep. Shower was lovely.||||Very quiet despite being in the middle of the city. Very cool “Makers Exchange” on the ground floor with local art. ||||Service friendly and professional. ||||Nice touches like the bedside reading program, tea in the lobby, slippers and robes.||||Valet was prompt, friendly, and helpful. And also were professional enough to not look askance at the state of our car, which was jam-packed due to a cross-country move. ||||Would absolutely stay again.

It has taking me quite a while to collect my thoughts in this review with my first experience at this hotel. My first time ever visiting Tennessee, everything was such a wonderful experience….. except for what the unprofessional behavior from a front desk staff member. Never in my life born and raised in the Bay Area of California, have I dealt with such racial discrimination. I was absolutely shocked to be honest. That experience has completely destroyed what this place has projected to stand for in being an awarded place of luxury in our eyes. The behavior shown to us in our stay, was atrocious. When we addressed the issue with said staff member over her obnoxious behavior we were responded with it’s because I’m black huh? I was appalled. One staff person will absolutely taint your ratings if you are just an unkind individual especially working with the public. Hopefully that person will not last long there……

If you’re looking for a well-appointed and conveniently located hotel in Knoxville, The Tennessean is a sophisticated choice that delivers charm, comfort, and easy access to the best of the city. Nestled beside the Marriott and just across the street from the beautifully landscaped World’s Fair Park, it’s a quiet yet central spot. You’re just a 7-10 minute stroll from the University of Tennessee campus and about the same distance to the historic Old Market—perfect for visitors wanting to explore on foot. The rooms themselves are elegantly designed with plush beds and a tranquil ambiance that makes it easy to relax after a day of sightseeing or meetings. While there’s no executive lounge or complimentary breakfast, there is a charming on-site coffee and smoothie shop that adds a nice local touch and makes for a convenient morning stop.|Staff at the front desk are genuinely courteous and welcoming, which sets the tone for a pleasant stay. I appreciated their professionalism throughout. However, service during breakfast could use a little polish—it’s slower than expected and less attentive than one might hope for at a hotel of this caliber.|She forgot to provide utensils for my meal. One thing to note: The Tennessean is not affiliated with Marriott Bonvoy despite being next door, so points and perks don’t transfer. Also, if you’re hoping for an upgrade, be proactive. I had to follow up a few times before it was acknowledged, but the room I ended up with was worth the effort.Airport transportation is available through a private shuttle, though it does require 48-hour advance booking and costs $90. A rideshare option like Uber is often more affordable and flexible.Overall, The Tennessean offers a stylish and quiet retreat with top-tier location benefits and beautifully designed rooms. For those who value comfort and proximity to Knoxville’s best attractions, it’s a strong contender—just be sure to plan a few details ahead of time.

Google
Very nice hotel. The rooms were exceptional. Spacious, clean, and very co canmfortable. Staff was nice and polite. Restaurant looked good, but only had breakfast there once. It was tasty, but be careful that they automatically add a "service fee" of 20%, even if you're taking it to go. They are connected with the Marriott next door and share a coffee shop, which wasn't bad. Standard coffee joint. Would definitely stay there again next time we're in Knoxville.

I just got back from a three night stay at The Tennesseean in Knoxville. The lobby is clean, small and cute. The front desk staff is not overly welcoming in their demeanor upon entering the hotel. On my third night, I found out the refrigerator in the room was broken so all of the leftovers that I had planned to send home with my daughter (she’s a college student) were ruined. The ironing board was broken so I had to put it on the floor to iron my shirt. The bedframe was visibly dusty/dirty. While yes, I booked this hotel through a third-party, I still paid almost $250 a night for a room that was mediocre at best. Definitely not worth the price. Lastly, I was looking forward to having a drink at the hotel bar with my daughter at the end of our first night, but the bar at the linked hotel was full of kids and thus not appealing, which was disappointing because it was a very cool looking bar. When we tried the bar in our hotel, we were met by an unhappy bartender who had left a big cardboard box sitting on the bar and did not seem to want to deal with any customers at all. Location of the hotel is great though, but would not stay there again, esp for the price. P.S. I just looked at other reviews and noticed someone commented on the valet people. I agree and meant to mention that the valet guys were phenomenal and were also the best part of my stay!

We had a wonderful stay at The Tennessean, and we were able to experience the Happy Camper package where they bring the camping indoors to your room! My kids loved the twinkle lights, the tent, and the cute bears. The food was really good at every dining spot in the Tennessean. The kids all gave the food and the s'mores a big thumbs up!

Google
From the staff out front, especially David, Eric and Dylan, to the truly lovely room amenities, The Tennessean is top notch. Great linens and towels. Comfy beds. Good coffee shop on the first level. |Only one little thing - the website said they had Keurig coffee makers in the rooms. They had Nespresso and we were just a little disappointed in that. Big coffee drinkers, very tiny coffees!

Arrival experience was welcoming. Rooms were very clean and big !! Loved the beds , pillows were soft but not to soft and the linens were amazing ! Such a sweet housekeeper I believe her name was Kirsten , very accommodating.|Katie and Peyton were very pleasant at the desk as well , everyone went above and beyond as well.

Yelp
This is our third stay and as always it's great. The workers are so kind and helpful. The rooms are nice and pretty. We have stayed three times over 6 years and each time we are still just as happy as the first that we stayed here

Bobby D.

Yelp
I do admit that I am a smoker however, I smoked outside and, instead of throwing my cigarette butts on the ground, I knocked the fire off and put the butt in my pocket and threw it away in my room trash can. Don't you know they charged me $250 for a smoking fee when I never smoked in the room, what a F&*$ING joke! I should have thrown my cigarette butts on the ground instead of throwing them in the trash like a responsible person. I am very disappointed and I will never be going back to that hotel. By the way, it says it's a luxury hotel however, they are sadly mistaken when the coffee maker sprays all over everything when making a cup of coffee. Did I mention the carpet was disgusting? The lowest I could go was One Star however, I would have given 0 stars if I could.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best hotels I've stayed in while traveling. The staff are incredibly helpful and polite. The bar had great small plates and was a relaxing place to unwind after a slammed day. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms were spacious (so rare in hotels these days). We had an issue with the TV/TV remote when we first got into the room and they had someone up in less than 15 minutes to fix the issue. I will definitely be staying here again the next time I'm in the Knoxville area.

Yelp
We checked in for our wedding night. A special treat at such a luxury hotel before our low key honeymoon. The front desk staff including Hannah, Ed and one other lovely young curly haired brunette with braces were wonderful at check in. Made us feel so welcome. Sadly, our dinner experience in the drawing room was absolutely horrendous. Andrew was so incredibly rude and defensive when we said we didn't think he was communicating with us about our order. He got very angry and snotty. We asked to speak to the hotel manager and he must have realized he was in trouble. He told us the hotel didn't have a manager at night. We questioned that because any luxury hotel always has a manager on duty. He lied again and we ate our cold fries and burnt hamburger. (The lobster BLT was good but the fried green tomatoes were lacking on it.) We went to the front desk and asked to speak to the manager privately. We didn't want to cause a scene or upset other guests by complaining. She graciously brought us to a different area and very empathetically heard us out. She was so supportive and apologized profusely. She asked if the restaurant tried to make it right and we told her Andrew basically refused to hear us out. Hannah immediately did WAY more than enough to make it right with a meal refund and some gracious extras. She made it right and then 10x more. Hannah went above and beyond for us. The other front desk staff were so apologetic on behalf of the restaurant too. They were totally amazing. Even it maintenance man and valet heard about our situation and tried to make it right. Except for the dining staff everything was perfect.

Yelp
All in all, I had a great hotel stay at The Tennessean. It's upscale without being ridiculous, and highly convenient for a lot of reasons, including: - Location; you're close to downtown, including a skywalk over a busy road to get close to Market Square. The area is loaded with local coffee, restaurants, and more. There's also a Convention Center across the street from the hotel. I always like to run to get my bearings in a new place, and the World's Fair Park and Greenway Trail were right beneath the hotel, making for an easy, nice little running route to the Tennessee River. -Cleanliness; it's a nice hotel, so this is expected, but the big bed and every inch of the room was spotlessly clean. -Comfort; the bed and more particularly the pillows were very comfortable. I didn't wanna get up. Adding to the comfort of the rooms is a nice shower with good pressure, and Keurig coffee for that initial wake-up cup for all you addicts out there like myself. -Convenience; the elevators were always quick and easy. I've been to hotels where the elevators are shut down, or frustratingly slow and that was not the case here. -Good service; friendly staff throughout my three days. Others have mentioned the drawback of having a steep valet-only price, but I didn't have a car this trip. All in all, a good hotel that I'd look to stay in again unless I want to switch it up!

Yelp
Lovely hotel in a great location! Right near the former fairgrounds, all the most interesting restaurants and bars, and the Sunsphere. Front desk staff is very welcoming. The Drawing Room restaurant staff and food were also great, and the cocktail list is wonderful.

Yelp
I chose this hotel because reviews were outstanding. The lobby and bar are gorgeous and tied to the Marriott next door. After check-in we went up to our rooms and all three rooms we had booked smelled horribly of mildew. The golf cart access to local restaurants and shops was a bonus and the drivers very sweet, all local students.

Yelp
Driving north I chose this for it being pet friendly. Pictures looked nice so we took a chance on our road trip. Wow we were so elated with this hotel. Every detail was amazing and beautiful. Reminded me of The Edition brand of hotels. The food was top notch and actually got room service. (So many hotels stopped) The bathroom was beautiful and shower was huge and had ridiculously wonderful water pressure. Shower was a hot after driving five hours and arriving late at night. Employees very sweet and loved on our puppies and gave them treats, which they loved. Rooms were 5 star. Don't hesitate to stay here! Surprised someone would be so bougie as to complain about the hotel not turning your sheets down. Sounds like a bitter person because this hotel was impressive and I have stayed at quite a few 5 star hotels and am very critical. We are actually planning on coming back just to stay here and explore Knoxville!

Yelp
We've stayed here 4 times and every visit was absolutely wonderful. The hotel is beautiful and the customer service is superb. All the employees we have come in contact with were amazing. Special shout out to Ed who goes above and beyond each time we've stayed. He also remembers us when we stay which is huge with me. This will remain our go to hotel when in Knoxville!

Yelp
This place is awesome. I had the wonderful chance to stay here last June it was very luxurious. They made me feel like I was a celebrity and they took time to help me. I can't say how much this hotel means to me.

Yelp
I graduated from nursing school and my boyfriend was so thoughtful that he booked a getaway weekend at The Tennessean Hotel. The Tennessean is listed as one of a few luxury hotels in downtown Knoxville. The luxury room -corner room-(best) overlooked a very busy street which it seems to get even louder from 2 am onwards ( emergency vehicle's siren, loud people). The room main toilet was coming off the floor, every time you used it! It was told to us by the hotel clerk at check-in that we will receive room service daily. It was not the case as on the first day we had to request service. When they finally came, our room smelled like a dirty rag!!.. I called the front desk about it and the clerk gave us $50 credit that could be use for drinks or dinner. The bed wasn't comfortable, and my poor boyfriend suffered a lot as it bother his back. On the last day I mentioned it to the manager and she apologize - she was pleasant but obviously no trained well to make customer happy...We ended up using the $50 -credit that was issued for the housekeeping mishap- that we didn't use through our stay, against our bill. No the best experience and it is even more disappointing when you have high expectations!

Angela D.

Yelp
I drive the country with my pets and always try to find pet friendly and quality and service. This hotel exceeded our expectations and we ended up using it twice in a week. Safe places to walk, quiet rooms, friendly staff and nice linens. There's even an emergency room for pets .5 miles away (we unfortunately had to experience this). We highly recommend !

Yelp
Not sure how anyone could leave less than a 5 star review here. Just stayed overnight, and everything was magnificent. Didn't eat at the restaurant. I was a little annoyed at the $29 parking fee per night, but welcome to reality when staying at a fancy hotel... They all do it now. Other than that, no complaints whatsoever. Room was fantastic, staff was fabulous, entire stay was super cool. Location is not near the downtown area, but hotel shuttle bus would drop you off (free) if need be. I would definitely stay here again, in fact, we are looking forward to it.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stayed here over Valentine's Day weekend and loved it!! He got us the romantic turndown for our room and took me by complete surprise! Upon arriving to our room the area had a romantic feeling with the lights turned down and then I saw the roses on the bed, the matching robes and slippers, and also champagne and chocolate covered strawberries! It was amazing! Everyone there was super helpful and nice too, especially the people working the valet. We've talked about making this our valentines tradition so I can't wait to come back next year!

Yelp
Don't waste your money. I'm a bit of a hotel snob. I've stayed everywhere from a motel to the Ritz and the Four Seasons. I prefer to stay somewhere nice when I travel. We were greeted right when we walked in and offered water. The first impression was fantastic. We were told there was a shuttle that would take you around the area up to 3 miles but depending maybe a little more LMAO. We got to our room and it was nice. Nothing amazing but nice. The first night we had reservations at a place a half a mile from the hotel. I was wearing heels so didn't want to walk but didn't want to get the car for a half a mile trek. We called about the shuttle but were told we were better off to walk...ok. As we were getting ready housekeeping came for turn down service. We told her we were leaving in 10 and would be gone until about 730. They came back at 830 as we were already in so we said no thanks. The next night we had a wedding to go to. Lyft is the only car service around and it was taking quite awhile for them to get to us and it wouldn't let us schedule in advance as usual Bc we needed more room. We asked if there was anything else we could do and were told "sorry the shuttle service only goes 3 miles and the black car is reserved for specific clientele". We also called about shuttle service that evening as someone in our friends crowd had a little much to drink and were told too bad again (we were less than a mile away). Got back to no turn down service again so that ended the night on a high note. We called for room service on Sunday and were told no. To spend this kind of money I do expect some "perks". There are absolutely NONE at this hotel. We were treated crappy at the hotel bar, by the front desk and it was just a horrible experience. Wish we had stayed at the Hyatt, Hilton or Oliver instead. What a waste of $1000 just for a decent bed (and that wasn't amazing either).

Yelp
What a great boutique hotel. I didn't have the time to try out the restaurant... but the service was outstanding. I stayed here at the insistence of one of my colleagues who has had numerous business trips to Knoxville. I'm glad I did! The room was well appointed - the bathroom was large with a great walk in shower and premium shampoo, etc. The staff were top notch - a real example for the hotel and hospitality industry. As a business traveler, you really appreciate this sort of experience.

Yelp
Stayed here two nights ago in the midst of the Corona outbreak. Emily who worked the front desk (and I think did everything else at the hotel that night) was simply amazing. Very informative with what the hotel was doing to protect its guests. Super helpful and friendly, greeted us outside and made sure our stay was perfect under these stressful conditions. The hotel is very nice and the rooms are fantastic. Highly recommend the hotel and want to be sure the management is aware Of how fortunate they are that Emily works there.

Yelp
We picked out The Tennessean Hotel with our Hotels Tonight app and got a great price of $195 for the night! Being loyal members to Hotels Tonight they also have us a $30 credit on our next hotel booking within the next 60 days! This hotel was so luxurious and on point! When I first walked in the door I knew I was in for a treat! The staff was very proper and well spoken! They handled everything promptly and got me to my room within 3 minutes. As I walked through the building I noticed a major focus on attention to details! The decor was elegant and everything flowed excellently! Entrance to my room was mind blowing and a continuance to what I had already seen walking to it! Everything was in its place and super plush! Free expresso awaited up and I even was complimented with free cake as my sister came to our room to visit us! We are loyal to hotels that treat us like royalty so you can expect we will settle into this spot every time we are in town to visit my sister!

Evan M.

Yelp
This is an absolutely amazing hotel- exceeding all my expectations and providing the kind of experience that you think of for years! The accommodations were immaculate and the employees went above and beyond to make our stay perfect! From the waiter who delivered a complimentary charcuterie tray for our anniversary from the hotel, to the valet who unloaded our luggage and even brought it up to our room with a genuine smile, I cannot say enough good things about these employees. Seeing them strive to make our stay the best possible made me see the gold standard of those who choose to work in hospitality. And the best thing of all-- not the fantastic view, not the delicious anniversary meals we ate at the on-site restaurant --not the superbly comfortable beds we were provided --the best thing of all was the concierge who greeted us warmly, showed genuine concern for all of our needs and even remembered my wife's name and visit to the hotel many years prior. He is the epitome of what one seeks for successful client contact and this hotel is lucky to have such an exceptional employee! Hats off to him and to the Tennessean for making our 20th anniversary truly epic! We are truly grateful!

Megan S.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time here. The food was excellent and everyone from the gentlemen at the front desk to the valet to the restaurant staff were kind, inviting and highly competent. The rooms were spacious and immaculate, and the restaurant is nice enough for a business meeting but casual enough for a family dinner. The hotel is also within walking distance of a ton of restaurants and attractions.

Yelp
So I need to preface this by saying that I did not stay here, but a friend from out of town did. I was blown away by the attentive customer service at every turn. From their valet to the front desk staff to the bartenders in The Drawing Room. The employees seemed eager to assist and engaged in providing a positive experience for every single person that walks through their door. The Drawing Room is a great hotel bar with an intimate feel and a great view of the Sunsphere. I was repeated greeted by staff with a genuine smile. The bartenders create incredible hand-crafted cocktails. The Tennessean Wildfire is easily my new favorite drink. It's a perfect tequila cocktail with tang and spice without being too sweet. I will certainly recommend that friends and family stay at The Tennessean and you will likely find me in The Drawing Room on a regular basis.

Yelp
Shortly after checking in, I left to go to dinner.... Hannah, calling from an unrecognized phone number, left me 3 voicemails messages THREATENING me and my family with evictions and animal control because my dog was (allegedly) barking. - this was over the course of less than an hour. When I arrived back at the hotel, I was met with police who escorted me to my room to get my belongings...they will confirm, there was no barking coming from my room. The Tennessean is registered as a "Dog Friendly" Hotel.. However, Hannah seems to HATE dogs and all people for that matter. Over the course of one hour from leaving for dinner, Hannah had called the police, animal control and her manager to secure the funds on my room but still kick me and my family out of the hotel. When I returned to resolve the matter, Hannah and no desire to handle the manner professionally or maturely. Instead, she was seen smirking and snickering and her plan came to fruition. Please consider other hotels..I hear the embassy suites across the street has brand new rooms, a rooftop bar and outdoor pool! The Tennessean is TERRIBLE!

Yelp
Wow loved our stay!!! Stayed here two nights while passing through Knoxville, the hotel and the staff are exceptional! The room was beautiful and spacious and had everything you could need. The staff could not be friendlier and willing to please! The valet guys were so great also, let us park our Harley under the entrance so it did not get wet when we were there and had some rain. They have a black car service that takes you around town and picks you up, rained while we were there one night so that came in very handy. This will be my go to hotel anytime I'm in Knoxville, 1st class place!

Jess B.

Yelp
We recently stayed at The Tennessean for 5 nights. I had called ahead of time and requested our two rooms be in close proximity to one another. The gentleman on the phone could not find our reservation at first, granted it was done third party. At that point, they only had one double Queen room available so they upgraded one of us to a King room. Not ideal but we made it work. Upon check in, I was given the cards for both rooms and told that they were on the same floor. We get up to 4th floor, check out the first of the two rooms then meander the hall to find the other, only to realize it was on the floor under us. I went back down to the front desk and they switch the room on the fourth floor to the third floor. They were on opposite sides of the floor and down the hall but once again, we made it work. The rooms were beautiful, the beds comfortable (the pillows not so much), gorgeous bathrooms, not much of a view from one room and the other had a logo over the window. The staff were mostly friendly. Ed at the front desk was the absolute best and reason for 4 stars vs 3. The parking situation was not fantastic as you had the option of valet or parking up the road in a parking structure that had a daily rate as well. The valet staff were all pretty friendly however, and always brought our vehicle up promptly. We did have a couple of issues in one room. The TV did not work, it turned on but the screen did not display anything. We called to request someone look at it and went out for the day. When we came back, the TV had not been looked at so I called down again and they sent someone to fix it, in which he did. The bathroom door is a sliding barn door. In the same room, one of the brackets was broken, making it difficult to open and close the door.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Where to start. Upon arrival, I waited nearly 20 minutes for the valet person to come to my car. A truck had gotten stuck, but the valet person just ignored the four cars that were waiting. A "hello, so sorry for the inconvenience, be with you shortly" goes a long way. Once at the front desk, they were unapologetic and slightly rude about the situation. The room was nice. Beds comfortable. Good amenities. Pretty property. My colleague and I head out for the evening and get back to the hotel, freezing and exhausted, around 12;30. The doors are locked. Key card doesn't work. No one at the desk. No one answering the phone. We wait outside for over 10 minutes. Nothing. I was about to call the police department because we were worried that something wasn't right. Someone finally showed up and unlocked the door. He Says "it's only me" and that they lock the doors for safety reasons... Huh? Isn't that what a key card is for? To unlock the doors? Upon mentioning the inconvenience to the hotel staff upon checking out, I was met with more "oh well" attitudes. Disappointing. Stay elsewhere in Knoxville because you won't find any decent hospitality at the Tennessean.

Yelp
The Tennessean was beyond what I expected.Sure covid19 made it all a little surreal however the central location of The Tennessean places you in close proximity to everything cool in Knoxville. The bar on the Holston floor has well over 100 bourbons(even a House single barrel.)The sphere was literally outside my window.

Yelp
According to staff they opened 4/1 so they're still working out the kinks. Staff has been super friendly and went above and beyond. For example, we went in search of vending machine for a snack late at night and didn't find one. When we asked the staff about it they offered some snacks they had on hand from the back which was incredibly nice of them. Pros: This is a new hotel with all new furnishings. Cory kept commenting on how comfortable the bed was. The feather pillows and down comforter made me incredibly happy. Also, the bathroom!! I would've been just fine sleeping in there. The shower was a walk in and it was huge. You could probably fit 4 people in there comfortably. The bathroom comes with Kohler furnishings which makes everything look modern and clean. Toiletries are by Molton Brown; a brand I'm not familiar with but they smelled nice. Cons: The breakfast buffet was OK, it was $17 a person and it's not your standard continental breakfast you'll find at other hotels. You won't find scrambled eggs or waffles here. Instead you'll find a variety of baked goods, cheeses, granola, yogurt, fruit, bacon, and smoked salmon. You might keep that in mind if you're traveling with kids or picky eaters. Overall, it's a beautiful hotel with great service. Would we stay here again? Absolutely, but our budget probably won't allow it when they stop offering introductory rates.

John M.

Yelp
Great Room. VALET ONLY-which they conveniently do not mention, thus no parking except for the $27 per night Valet parking. This is due to construction in their garage, not the customers issue, but it becomes theirs when none other is available. Will NOT negotiate. 5 star hotel with no parking-no thanks! Not again.

Yelp
Wow...just wow. If you visit Knoxville and don't stay at The Tennessean, then I hope they jack up your rates. Received a prelim call to confirm the time that I might arrive and if they could make any reservations for me. Arrived and it was nice to have the receptionist near the entrance. Everybody was extremely courteous. The room was amazing and very quiet. Anybody not giving 5 stars probably has issues with every place they go and you probably don't want them coming back. And yes---I'll be back.

Yelp
The staff is amazing. If you are looking for a hotel in the heart of Knoxville, this is the place. While there are any number of large chains surrounding it, this one is better than the rest. The accommodations are clean and there are a thousand little touches that but it a notch above the rest. However, what makes it really shine is the staff. From the valets (even if you didn't valet park your car), to the front desk (who treat your request as if it is their #1 priority) to the housekeeping staff who are polite, well spoken, and more than happy to provide extra toiletries and make you feel at home. I will definitely be returning to the Tennessean on my next trip to Knoxville.

Yelp
First let me say, I did not stay here but my daughter did. I did spend a great deal of time there with her so I feel obligated to share my own review. She will write her own but I just had to share what an amazing experience this was. We live in Knoxville but my daughter and her fiancé booked a room for a few days for their wedding. We visited in advance and they happily showed her the rooms and other amenities. She needed space for bridesmaids and mothers to get hair and makeup done the day of and the King-King room was perfect. Very spacious with 2 King beds, huge shower and bathroom area, and a beautiful view. The very large windows gave lots of natural light and the decor was lovely. Everything we asked for - steamer, extra glasses, bar height chairs, etc - was happily delivered. I travel a lot and the staff here was exceptionally helpful and friendly. From the valet to the front desk to the service personnel, it was 5 star. They engaged everyone in conversation that was genuine, stopping and facing you, as though they were truly interested, not just because it's part of their job. The staff was some of the best I have seen anywhere. I will happily recommend The Tennessean to any visitors to Knoxville. By far the best experience in the downtown area.

Yelp
I was referred to the Tennessean by some colleagues at work when I had a work trip there a few weeks ago. I had heard from them that it was a very nice hotel and in a good area, so I booked it for a few nights in October. I do have to say that this hotel is REALLY nice for the price you pay. I know I didn't pay for it personally (as it was a corporate trip), but when I booked it via our corporate site, it was ~$210/night. (Keep in mind, that might include some minor corporate discount). But now that I've been here, I would expect this hotel to be around $400/night. Other similar hotels I've stayed in (in NYC and SF) were both $400+/night. Wins: -My absolute favorite thing was the free water. I know that is probably odd to some people, but when I travel for work, I cannot stand having to buy water at Walgreen's & CVS all the time. This hotel gets it right with two bottles in the mini fridge when you get there. They also have an evening service where an associate comes by and offers you two more bottles. That's four bottles a day which is AWESOME! The gym also has a mini fridge filled with bottled waters as well and I probably took another four from there since I worked out both mornings I was there. -The bed! The bed is awesome! It's like a big white fluffy cloud. I slept extremely well when I was there. I wish all hotel beds could be this comfy! -The staff is super nice and friendly. Each evening, I saw a female housekeeping associate making the rounds on our floor and she'd always smile and say hi. Everyone at the front desk was always eager to greet you and ask if you need help. Very nice team working there. -The gym: They had a very nice, clean gym. I was surprised that they even had mats and a foam roller (I still need to buy a travel sized foam roller). I love that you can actually set the temperature in the gym room (down to 65 degrees). I can't do that in my gym at home, so you better believe I set it to 65 before I got on the treadmill. No shame. I did change it back to 70 when I was done though. Only thing that they could do is get better treadmills. They had TVs on them, but seemed kind of cheap and had no "cushion"/ give to the tread. Could get better: -They offer free valet, which is kind of confusing and I honestly didn't love (I might be the only one saying that here...). When I first got there, I pulled around and it's a really confusing entrance since it's right next to the entrance to the Holiday Inn Express. I couldn't tell which entrance was which and there was no sign that said "The Tennessean-- Please Use Free Valet" or anything like that. So I just pulled my car around and ended up parking it in a valet spot on my own (not sure if that's kosher or not). But either way, I don't like the whole valet thing. I wanna park my own car and then be able to retrieve it whenever I want it. I also don't like it because when they hand you a ticket it says "Please allow 20 minutes for car retrieval." No way! Like I said, I'd rather just park my car on my own. All in all, this is the place to stay when in Knoxville. If I have another work trip there, I will certainly be going back!

Yelp
Great hotel. Great staff, and food. Reason to withhold a star is room temp overnight. No way to lower it and became uncomfortable sleeping temps both nights.

Yelp
This place is the best hotel in the southeast, hands down. Price is so affordable for what you get. Every staff member is attentive and kind. I love staying here!!!

Yelp
Pros: nice hotel, great service, large room, upgraded bathroom, good food, valet parking, location, good WiFi Cons: AC not cold, bed rock hard, pillows not firm, view of roof, small channel selection I was here on business. I've stayed in a lot of hotels including Embassy Suites and Marriotts. I thought this time I'd try The Tennessean. It had some good perks but fell short in some very important ways. I always enjoy my sleep experience in hotels with a cool room temperature, black out curtains and a comfortable bed. Unfortunately, I did not get a good sleep experience. The room although set on 65 was at best 70 or 69 in reality (good thing I brought a fan), the pillows were not firm and went flat, but the bed was hard as a rock. So that means I did not get good sleep and had back pain. Although the hotel was good, the sleep experience ruined it for me. I will not return.

Yelp
Customer service is top notch from valets the front desk to concierge to room service -well done! Premium view king room was very nice. Love the Black Pepper Molton Brown!! Bed was so freaking comfortable- my word. Room service breakfast right on time. It was good, but when they say "omelet" and nothing else listed - there will not be anything else not a piece of toast, not even an orange slice lol. Never ordered an omelet that came like that anywhere else and nothing inside it either. $16 for 3 eggs and a sprinkle of cheese - nope, they lost a star. The toilet area also needs a trash can. Awkward for females without one... that's all for my nit pick, it really is a great hotel and fantastic location.

Yelp
Front desk was nice.Mimi in the bar was cool.(and cute) So was the day staff. Night had a guy that was stupid. Not retarded, just stupid. He didn't get the views and thoughts of us. Feet in a chair is wrong but a gentle reminder goes far not dropping the check because we didn't respect him. Also kicking a group of 80 out when you have no revenue seems silly. Just ask the bartender that the group didn't like to stay home for 3 nights. Or be a real manager and fire him if these people are willing to pay $1million plus for their cars, want to enjoy your hotel.in short worse hotel experience ever. I've been in many groups, stayed in a lot of places, they have no idea how to handle a group of people for fun, how can you post UT stuff if the residents get made at 12db?

Yelp
We love this hotel and we have stayed here at least 10 times. The rooms are beautiful, the food is great, the bar is awesome, and the staff is super friendly. I gave this review 3 stars for 1 reason. On Friday 11/6/20, a large group of people were in the hotel and the hallways and the elevators reeked of marijuana. Several people in the group were checking into the hotel when I was working in the lobby and when I went upstairs, everything smelled like marijuana. They obviously cant turn people away from staying at the hotel but it would be in everyones best interest to have a no tolerance policy for smoking pot in the hotel. We have encountered this kind of thing on several occasions in Las Vegas but its totally uncharacteristic of The Tennessean. We would love to stay there again but if smoking pot is allowed in this hotel, we wont ever go back.

Yelp
"Unparalleled Experience" This hotel was a gem discovered by pure luck, as we were evacuating from Hurricane Irma, The Tennessean was the highest rated at the most reasonable price. From the first conversation with the manager on duty assured me that they would hold the room even if we got there at 1 AM including a calming pep talk that the hotel would be safe and we would enjoy our stay. Boy, that was the understatement of the century. This hotel is truly a world class establishment. The entire staff is friendly, accommodating and take the time to get to know each of their guests. In this day and age what establishment can you really say that about? The Tennessean Hotel, that's who! This place is a luxury hotel by every sense of the word and even discounted their rates for evacuees. Our experience here has not only made us a fan of this hotel but it has given us a reason to return Tennessee to visit under happier circumstance. All in all, this hotel is truly an example of what a hotel should be. The staff, the building, the decorating, the quality, everything. The only downside is that we don't want to leave. Thank you Tennessean Hotel for taking care of us!

Yelp
Great boutique hotel, rooms and appointments are gorgeous. In-room fridges and Illy espresso. Beds are comfy. No weird middle of the night climate control issues like you get at some hotels. Staff is courteous and well trained. Love the Drawing Room for craft cocktails and quick noshes. No on-property restaurant for full meals other than limited breakfast, but you're only a few blocks from everywhere worth eating in town.

Yelp
We stayed at the Tennessean last night. This is an AMAZING hotel. Bathrooms are huge and the shower is one of the biggest I've ever used. Molton Brown amenities. Great expresso machine in the rooms. Nice view and a really amazing staff. Everyone went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional. Beautiful fitness center with a view and a great location downtown. It's hard to imagine staying anywhere else in downtown Knoxville. I've stayed at the Hilton, Crown Plaza and the Holiday Inn downtown. These are all very nice hotels but The Tennessean is a different experience in luxury and service. For what they offer, the rates are reasonable. Less expensive than any hotels in downtown Nashville. I can't say enough nice things about this new property. We will definitely stay here again.

Yelp
We booked a room at the Tennessean hotel via hotels.com. Upon arrival, the room had a horrible smell like BO. They sent maintenance up to the room who agreed it smelled horrible and tried to fix the situation by spraying room spray. We waited a few minutes and he agreed it still smelled. We went back down to the front desk where they said they would be happy to accommodate but Unfortunately, because we booked through a 3rd party, they couldn't refund us. They also couldn't offer us another room because they were fully booked. At this point, the general manager, Hannah, said other guests had complained about the room and she would make a note not to rent out that room. We called hotels.com who were extremely accommodating and said they would gladly refund us if they could confirm with the hotel. The front desk confirmed the details above and then, when speaking with Hannah (GM), she said the room had absolutely no smell and we were unable to get a refund. This is not the nicest hotel in Knoxville..we ended up booking at the Marriott Courtyard which was 1/4 the price, significantly nicer, and much better customer service.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing service here. The room was so awesome and very clean. All of the staff are wonderful and welcoming. They will go out of their way to answer any questions or get you what you need. I Love the huge bathroom and the huge walk in shower. My husband and I didn't want to leave. They make you feel important here... And we had an amazing time. We will definitely be staying here again.

Yelp
So, I will make it short and simple. Been in the hotel business for 20 years, and by far this independantly owned hotel needs a customer retention class. So, we got there, valet fine, go up to check in and the young man, couldn't get into his computer for confirmation of room, so of course I checked out the uniform, first it was filthy with white staines on his lapel, and a chunk of hair balm on his hairline. So it gets better! We get our room and we are on the second floor and paid for a city view. Ha! our city view was of the street. Please see pictures. Oh and then there is... "VIP drop off within a 3 mile radius". Forget that, we had to take an Uber. We get back after dinner at Market square, and approached front desk and expressed our disappointment at the Tennessean. This is what was said, from a female representative for the hotel "Our city views are from the 2nd floor to the fifth".....just we are sorry. So, please, if visiting Knoxville, do research for better accomodations. Below is pic of our view.

Yelp
This place isn't worth the cost per night, customer service was terrible, housekeeping did not clean my house, had to call down to guest services for the room to be clean, this hotel does not have a swimming pool, you have to go over to the Holiday Inn, however the best thing about this hotel is The Drawing Room, I had the swordfish it was delicious. Next time I'm in Knoxville, TN I will not stay at this hotel!

Yelp
The Tennessean Hotel is a very nice hotel with very friendly employees throughout. The lobby is welcoming, the rooms are nice and clean and the restaurants are well appointed with good food. The employees from the front door guys when you arrive, to check in, to the restaurants are very welcoming and professional. The hotel offers internet service but it does not work well at all. It consistently fails and kicks you off. This happens all day, all night and it fails with consistency. Possibly if one pays for the upgraded connection, you may have a better experience, but I'm unsure as it was not needed on this visit. Just something to be aware of, if you have a need for a solid and uninterrupted internet connection. This review would be a 5/5 review except for one glaring omission. The maintenance of the rooms during the stay is a 2/5 and this ranking was solidified over our stay that lasted a week. The supplies in the rooms are not replaced with regularity. If the glasses are used and have even one drop of liquid in them, they are left and not replaced. The last two nights of our stay, we emptied the glasses that were used to see what would happen and they were left dirty in the room but moved together as they were new. The shampoo, conditioner and lotions were not replaced. We called to ask if they could replace the items and were told, "I am not sure if we have any, but we will try". They did bring the supplies after we called, which was about 7 PM. The odd thing, was at 9:15 PM, when this reviewer was asleep, they rang the doorbell (3 times) and showed up at the door with more supplies. This was not ideal, as a 4:30 AM alarm was in our future. Considering all things that go into operating a nice hotel, this is minor but it is something to consider if you're in a hurry to get ready in the morning and are expecting the aforementioned items. Also, if you want to use a clean glass at night, you'll be out of luck. Therefore, one should not expect replenished supplies as this happened each and every day we were there. It was not a one off, it is the habit of the Tennessean as it happened each and every day. As the Hotel is seemingly well run, it is clearly a breakdown in the management of the House Keeping Staff. One might want to stop off at Target on the way into the Tennessean. Come to think of it, pick up some dish washing soap as well for the glasses and you'll be in great shape. Overall, the Tennessean is a nice place in Knoxville. It's well located, well appointed and well done. It's seemingly the best option when in Knoxville, which by the way is a lovely Southern City. The people are friendly and the overall experience of the Tennessean is pleasant.

Yelp
Very beautiful hotel ,very comfortable ,very clean, beautiful hotel rooms, the bar on the second floor is to die for with that amazing view!! This place is practical, very close to restaurants, and many more places! But.... The turndown shift wasn't so pleasant! very rude and not professional, not all, but some are very rude. Other than that I love this place amazing services and very practical. Hoping to stay again hoping they have a better staffing for the turndown!

Yelp
Requested an early check-in, so the day before a representative called and offered an option that would make this happen.. great customer service1. The rooms were roomy, well presented, and excellently stocked. Especially enjoyed the nice wine glasses and Lilly coffee maker. Also, the king bed had individual reading lamps on either side. All staff, from the valet, to the front desk, to the Drawing Room staff, were friendly and helpful. The fitness room was excellently equipped with quality machines and weights, and lots of towels and bottled water available. The glass shower door leaked, causing a safety (slip) issue on the floor in the entrance way. The information was brought to the attention of the reception staff, but the problem persisted. The bathroom only had a large shower stall, so those who enjoy soaking should know to request such a room, if they are available. The hotel had a weekly events page available, but failed to mention that a marathon was being held during our stay. The event began at 6:30 a.m., right outside our windows.

Yelp
The hotel was our saving grace for the night. We had been driving for 10 hours and it was 1130pm. We needed rest badly. We have 3 service dogs with us and everywhere from North Carolina down to Knoxville Tn all hotels were booked. We had booked a hotel prior at 1130 PM but it was gross and sketchy. So we were now frantically looking for a pet friendly hotel after 1230 am. I incorrectly booked the Tennessean for the next day thru hotels.com. I called the Tennessean immediately and not only was he super friendly, they were able to fit us right in with zero issues. Of course it's a luxury hotel but it was very clean & spacious. But the staff themselves from the night crew to the morning crew were so awesome and nice. They even sent us on our way with 2 cokes for free!!
