Head to These 10 Neighborhood Bars for the Holidays | Eater Denver

"Religious paintings and paraphernalia pack this quirky 17th Street hole-in-the-wall that infuses its own vodka and hides a performance space in the basement. Hide out under the hanging lights and squeeze up to the full bar at this busy neighborhood favorite." - Josie Sexton

Cool little local bar in the middle of the Denver downtown neighborhood. The drink menu and beer selection were great, and the server/bartender was awesome. Nice ambiance and loved the decor. Being a non practicing Catholic, it brought a lot of humor and felt no guilt drinking in front of hundreds of crosses. Few bar patrons were annoying thinking they owned a corner or the bar but no fault of the establishment and just some rude folk. Overall a great place for a cocktail and beer.

Google
Love the vibe. Love the Christmas lights and the red Christmas lights. Definitely a vibe. Inside is cozy and romantic. Good music.

Google
Mustached male bartender went too far & beyond rude with his “joking” comment. Even despite, my initial bad aura or mood may not have been the most positive. I was still polite in my interactions with staff. I came out to have a decent time & a good laugh at the show after being injured, sick in quarantine for weeks. So clearly until I had a drink or two & a bite to eat there it took some time. Even after my apology for any off putting or rough aura I may have gave off. That aside! Food was good. Speed of service was good for drinks. The young lady there was fantastic, no complaints. Drink and bite wasn’t terribly expensive thankfully. Also on other visit old lady who was bartender was plenty nice & good service. I would say overall is a good experience, less the some of the rude staff, which if you look through the low reviews seems to be a common issue. Would I come back? NOPE!

Google
Darren was attentive. He did a great job making us feel taken care of. He provided us with samples for finding the perfect drink. We also love steph, shes been amazing every visit

Google
I found this spot off other reviews and I love the vibe. Super chill and divey but elevated from your dad’s dive bar. Good crowd. Drinks are good and reasonably priced. Love the inside and patio is dog friendly. Staff seems chill. Think I found my new regular spot

Google
This is our new favorite bar in Denver! The ambiance is so cool, drinks are delicious and a good price, and the staff is all super friendly. Nicole is the sweetest and she makes excellent drinks.

Google
Good, not great. I’ve had excellent drinks here, and sometimes things are just okay. It’s a fun atmosphere and a decent spot.

Google
Coffee, cocktails, atmosphere all in one place till late at night. If you have the chance to meet Eric, do so, he knows his bar perfectly and they have a very well curated one with outstanding Mezcal, Tequila and Sotol.

Yelp
Quirky little spot! The decor inside is definitely its own brand and very fun to investigate, though we opted to sit outside in the lovely weather. They've got a good amount of space out back with a variety of seating options. My one complaint is there are smokers and the smell permeates. My husband had an old fashioned and I had a martini - both were well made and fairly priced. I'd totally come back!

Yelp
What more can I say other than, Thin Man knows how to nail a theme ‍. This is my go-to-spot to celebrate an occasion. Their holiday / party / everyday decor is always unique and super detailed. Drinks are affordable, music and vibes are immaculate. What more could you ask for from your favorite Denver bar?

Yelp
I've been to this bar a few times and wasn't wildly impressed. Cool local neighborhood bar, evidently popular for first dates. I'd say it's a good "later in the night" stop if you're bar hopping. I had a Spicy Paloma on one visit and I'm sure a few others. Both drinks and service were okay, in my experience. My friends and I came here because we were waiting for a dinner reservation nearby. I would try again if a friend really wanted to come here!

Yelp
Very unique bar with a fun ambiance. There's so much to look at when you're enjoying a delicious cocktail at Thin Man. Fun and interesting decor all throughout the perfectly dim lit bar. Bartenders are kind, attentive, and make very good cocktails. Did you know an espresso martini with THREE coffee beans is good luck? Yes, me neither. I love stopping in here in the afternoon with friends after walking around Denver botanic gardens, only a couple streets away.

Yelp
Such a fun spot! Super glad we went and checked it out. Both the customers and bartender were so friendly. They had their own infused vodkas which we were allowed to sample. 10/10 recommend

Yelp
Everybody's welcome at The Thin Man where you'll see as many locals as first timers. It's a relatively small space, and it's one of those spots you'll see a mix of ages and a lot of hipsters. The paninis are a welcomed addition to your night if you get snacky, the drinks are standard, and the bartenders are either really sweet or really sour; it's all part of it.
google avatar

Sean K.

Yelp
A charming nonchalant vibe full of capable staff who can craft nearly any cocktail your heart desires. The red lighting is both alluring and flattering. Imbibe, relax, and take in the people watching. Cheers.

Yelp
Awesome atmosphere 10/10 service love this place! My girlfriend and I found the spicy Jesus margarita delicious!

Maris H.

Yelp
This place charges you a $60 fee to start a tab. It's cool in the inside and has great drinks but when I called about getting the $60 refunded they were really rude to me. It has almost been a week and I'm still out $60 when I only spent $24 on a few martinis.. I guess just don't start a tab and close o ur after every drink.
google avatar

Reece K.

Yelp
Do Not Visit! This place is awful! Visited this spot for the 2nd time to give it a chance... Bartender was outside smoking and therefore not available for 20 minutes and when he returned was super rude and disinterested. They didn't have multiple basic ingredients including limes (yes, I'm serious) and they're drinks are plain and overpriced. Will never be back and encourage everyone to not give them business

Yelp
Oh, yeah! A local spot that was open beyond 10pm! HOORAY!!!! Our bartender was a wonderful lady that was busy, yet didn't miss a beat. There was great beer, local beer, options to enjoy. They had several "pickle shots", which my lady loved. The ambiance was interesting. I loved the Jesus, but I prefer him off the cross, then on! Either way, come and enjoy some local fun.

Ron H.

Yelp
New Year's Eve at the Thin Man as an incredible annual event. If you have never been, go. Each year has a new theme.. Extemely creative.. Great fun, gret drinks, great music. Great times.

Emily A.

Yelp
I love the weird vibe inside. I had a regular mule but the real star for me was their homemade lemonade (in my case, vodka lemonade). The bartender was really nice and non-pretentious. I would go back
google avatar

Amanda F.

Yelp
A bar where Jesus is watching you. I am seriously not mad about it. My husband and I stopped in for a few drinks to start our evening. Our bartender was nice and knowledgeable. We ordered chips and salsa and was a nice filler. They have a variety of infused drinks. My husband tried a shot of the pickle vodka. He was not a fan but he enjoyed the idea. Overall a cool little bar with patio area in front and back..

Yelp
This place is the best place ever i love going there and I ilthink im going to have my birthday there. Great food!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic old school neighborhood bar! The staff was great, the drinks were bombastic! The crowd was local, loud and fun! Adding this to my list of go to bars!
google avatar

christina m.

Yelp
Really cool little dive bar. Lots of religious memorabilia, some of it funny but all of it interesting. They make a mean dirty martini with a special jalapeño infused vodka. Spicy but delicious! I would go back just for the five, but the drinks were on point, so I'll be back for sure.
google avatar

Katie O.

Yelp
The decor was fun and the drinks were good! Super small space though and was loud and very crowded.
google avatar

Dana W.

Yelp
What a fun place!!!!! It was pretty quiet around happy hour then all the cool people started showing up around 8! Definitely an "it" place. Drinks were affordable and paninis for $7,50 on the menu. Will TOTALLY be back real soon!!
google avatar

Toni D.

Yelp
Indoor and outdoor seating available. The hummus plate was good, lacking a little flavor but the pressed bread had good flavor. I love the ambiance.

Isabella C.

Yelp
Love love love the infused shots. Excellent reviews from friends about the very casually made paninis too.
google avatar

Jed K.

Yelp
My neighborhood hang. Great spot to kick it after a bad or a good day. Keep it up ya'll.
google avatar

Brianna L.

Yelp
Glad to see Thin Man up and running during this covid time. For a weeknight there was a good amount of people sitting socially distanced on both the front and back patios. The owner has installed ceiling fans to help with ventilation and hung window panes over the bar to help keep distance from the bartenders. We thought the windows were an awesome and creative solution. Also 3 nativity scene figures were seated on bar seats to help indicate where not to be. They were both comical and practical! I thought the bar was really clean, friendly staff, and just a great place to get a drink and chit chat.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome local spot in City Park West neighborhood. Visiting Denver for a few months and our AirBnb is a block away so this has been a go to spot for happy hour drinks and even a night out on the weekend! Great indoor area with bar stools and some tables in addition to outdoor space in front and out back. Drinks are reasonably priced. Crowd definitely picks up on the weekend nights.

David C.

Yelp
The THIN MAN and ST. MARKS combo is the best there is in Denver for a go to local saloon and cafe. I drive well out of my way to go to both.

Jenny H.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the ambiance. The hot wine was delicious. Good neighborhood bar to go to for a chill time
google avatar

Andy H.

Yelp
Pineapple jalapeño infused tequila with soda water. Shut. It. Down. It's a Saturday night and Thin Man is poppin. The vibe is edgy and vibrant. Our mixed crowd of couples and single friends lit up when we saw the array of mixed drinks in cantinas behind the bar. Strangers became friends quickly. From the bar to the bathroom lines, people wanted to connect. The best part of the venue is their backyard. String lights add to the cozy atmosphere.
google avatar

Deana M.

Yelp
Cute chill place with a nice back patio and great beer selection. Would def recommend!
google avatar

Deya Z.

Yelp
I feel incredibly old saying this but Thin Man was the place to be back in the day. Ever since my move to Denver some years ago, this place was my go to for Friday happy hours and Saturdays with friends! It's a simple bar that's not pretentious and trying to be "new" Denver. It's affordable and a nice place to chill without the hubbub.

Ally D.

Yelp
I really like this place. Cool vibe, nice bar, and food was actually great. Friendly service too.
google avatar

John A.

Yelp
Was a big fan of the jalapeno tequila however the spiced wine tasted like warm Capt'n Crunch with Crunch Berries. Even though we got seats at the bar it was quite annoying having people standing at our backs and reaching over to order drinks and pay tabs. There is some seating area outside as well which offers more space but you still have to keep coming inside to order and then reaching over someone else sitting at the bar.
google avatar

Meg O.

Yelp
Horrible bartender. Brought close to 25 coworkers in for an after party of our company bbq. Not only was the bartender angry about the high volume situation, she was extremely disrespectful towards me & refused service after my husband was called on vaping inside the bar 45 minute earlier. A significant argument ensued & I chose to leave, & on the way out was screamed at to "GTFO". I understand the position of securing the your restaurant & liquor license. But this became very personal. The bartender was NOT thrilled with a late night crowd. & made it a significant problem. Would not recommend for groups larger than 5. Because they clearly can't handle stress. ‍

Yelp
Cool bar with solid drink options (good beer selection plus infused vodkas). Jesus art everywhere. Paper lanterns. Red lighting. Weird but I dig it. Friendly staff. Outdoor patio area.

Ayla B.

Yelp
I heart thin man-- it's a lovely space w/ wonderful staff n the yummiest dirty martini!!!!
google avatar

Sierra W.

Yelp
I lovingly refer to this place as one step up from a dive bar. Amazing service even when vibes are extremely high at 1am. Attracts an eclectic crowd. Love that it's in the City Park West neighborhood.
google avatar

Tyra R.

Yelp
Came to this place randomly as I found it on yelp nearby. It doesn't smell too pleasant and the drinks were not really good. The infused shots smell good but don't taste good. The bartender was nice and friendly though.
google avatar

Rose L.

Yelp
This is one of the weirdest bars I've ever been to, but it was great. Interesting drink choices. Jesus is everywhere. Ambiance is confusing. Music was on point. Will definitely hang out here again.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
This is the classic old American bar. We had a great bartender making reasonable priced drinks with good music in background.

Fit Foodie I.

Yelp
If you're looking for an accurate cross section of the worst Denver has to offer, this is your place. Zero grit, zero personality, zero integrity and ALL the confidence. A bar for those whose moms think they're perfect and gifted and special. Don't forget your vax card, though. You rebels, you. Oh, and the service was terrible. Glad I wasn't paying.
google avatar

Julian L.

Yelp
I see this bar as a relaxed place. Relaxing. Shares a patio with St Mark's, who are also open at night. Sometimes i arrive and then decide if I'm in the mood for tea or tequila (I think one could theoretically even mix the two on the patio they share). Jesus is the only prominent decorative theme here in a way that is neither religious nor sacrilegious. Great selection of tequila and whiskey, and prices are quite reasonable. I think the servers are great. The place does get a bit busy on the weekends, like any decent bar, which makes people like me who are usually there at 5 on a Tuesday wonder why all these people are in my way. Plenty of beer on tap, including Surly which would be a treat for people familiar with MN beer. Parking is fairly easy on the streets, and it's right by Vine St Brewery.
google avatar

Maeve G.

Yelp
The Thin Man is a great vibe. Super simple bar, not very big (be prepared to wait for a seat to open up), random Jesus decor, all washed in red lights -- it's a vibe. They have homemade infused vodkas which are delicious, plus a long menu of cocktails, spirits, and beer. Plenty of local beers on tap. It's a great place to post up and have a conversation with friends or go on a date (though it's definitely a little loud for that). It's an intimate place with moderate prices and a very distinct look. I appreciate that they're requiring vax cards upon entry, too. Love it!

Yelp
Looking for an hip hole in the wall bar in Uptown? Look no further, The Thin Man is your Bar!! It is definitely a funky spot, to see what I mean, check out my picture. Not to mention, they infuse their own liquor and have many unique flavors. Any bar that infuses their own booze gets a thumbs up from me! Still not sure this spot is for you? Check it out for yourself!
google avatar

Megan B.

Yelp
Dive bar level 1000. Super interesting decor with a little patio but otherwise, not much to offer. No craft cocktails and a crowd of "regulars" the dress in PJs and the like. Won't come back but it's partly because I don't drink beer and thats about the only safe bet at a place like this.
google avatar

Katie F.

Yelp
This place is cool, without even trying. i wish i could be like that! With their open windows, cutesey decor, fun bartenders and DELISH sangria, it's a no brainer as to why everyone loves this little neighborhood bar,...even more so in the summer! it's perfect little patio and summer inspired drinks make this place a yelper favorite :)
google avatar

Leslie E.

Yelp
I live in the neighborhood and have been going to this bar for years. The new older white bald bartender is a ass and rude! Served me a flat beer. Tasted horrible. I told him and he butcher and moaned about nobody else complaining and they don't give out free beer. He then gave me a different beer. But charged me for the bad beer that was not drank! No tip for him. How can they keep this jerk on. Going g to loose a lot of business! I see I'm not the only one who had had a negative experience with him. Won't be back. Spend my money at a place that cares about serving drinks and nice to people!
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
Just so much JESUS! He peers into your soul from every corner of this place as you sip your drink. Is Jesus The Thin Man?! Drink more infused vodka and maybe you'll know! This funky bar draws quite the crowd on weekend nights, and it's almost impossible to get to the bar and order a drink or even find a place to stand. Conversation is near impossible when this place is crowded. For these reasons, I suggest going during the week and maybe on the early side. Maybe I'm lame, but I like to actually be able to order a drink without throwing elbows, and I like talking to my friends. Their infused vodka is as good as everyone says it is! I like the pineapple best! The options abound for those with tamer tastes as well as those with adventurous palates. Drink. Enjoy. Just know that He's watching!
google avatar

Stephanie N.

Yelp
I did feel a little off whenever I came in, was it all of the Jesus photos and knick knacks? Was it the bartenders that were staring but did not ask if we wanted anything? This place was pretty crowded on a Saturday night. Street parking available, limited tables and chairs to sit, small space to stand. Drinks were okay. Service could've been better. Interior was nicely decorated though
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
The Thin Man reminds me of my first few years in Denver. And for that reason, it holds a very nostalgic and boozy space in my heart. What hooked me? Of course, initially it was the good company and the overall vibes of the place. I just felt trendy being there as a 21 year old. And now, I know why. There are varying options of homemade infused vodkas behind the bar, specials always written on a chalkboard (if they have spiced or mulled wine written down, just do it), and a decent wine/beer selection. The selection is okay, but the price point is worth it. Better than a dive bar, but not much more expensive. I love the decor--market/Xmas style lighting overhead and art with a kitschy religious theme on the walls. If it gets busy, you'll be crammed in, but you'll be happy. For some reason, I don't mind waiting for a drink, plus the staff is friendly. Not necessarily attentive, but friendly. Do I love the smoking on the back patio? No, but for that reason, I avoid it. Just go. Be happy. Enjoy yourselves--and the funky, quirky decor.
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
I've seen a few reviews here docking the rating because the staff was less than cordial. Those people must be devoid of life or charm because I found the staff to be more than accommodating. The prices were fair and the selection was vast. The crowd was also nice and easygoing. Really, what's to dislike?
